Politics"APC Has Failed Nigerians" – Abia PDP Declares, Urges Total Rejection In 2027 by Metrix147(op): 6:33pm On Apr 16
The Abia State Caretaker Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Abia State, to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as years of economic hardship and worsening insecurity under the ruling party.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhs5dO1wiwo
Addressing journalists on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ikpegbu Emeka Yellow, said the press conference was convened to reaffirm the party’s strength and readiness ahead of the next electoral cycle.

He assured party members and supporters that the PDP remains united and firmly on ground, adding that the party is fully prepared to present credible and people-oriented candidates across all elective positions in 2027.

The PDP chairman accused the APC-led administration of failing Nigerians over the past decade, pointing to rising inflation, unemployment, business closures, and declining public trust in institutions. He noted that millions of Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities, while insecurity continues to spread across the country.

According to him, “a government that cannot guarantee safety or improve the lives of its citizens has failed in its primary responsibility,” stressing that the current situation must not be allowed to continue.

He also alleged attempts by the ruling party to weaken opposition forces and dominate the political space ahead of the elections, warning that such actions pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.

Focusing on Abia State, the PDP cautioned voters against supporting the APC, arguing that it would amount to importing what it described as the failures of the federal government into the state. The party further claimed that some individuals promoting the APC in Abia were responsible for past mismanagement and are now seeking political relevance under a different platform.

The PDP leadership urged citizens to remain vigilant and resist intimidation or inducement, expressing confidence that Abians would make informed choices at the polls.

While acknowledging past internal challenges, the party maintained that it has been repositioned and is ready to reclaim political leadership. It also hinted at an expected Supreme Court ruling on party matters, expressing optimism about the outcome.

PoliticsVIDEO: “I’m Not An IPOB Member, But..” – Hon. Obi Aguocha by Metrix147(op): 11:24am On Apr 16
The lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has declared that while he is not a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), he aligns with what he described as the “ideology of Biafra,” emphasizing that it reflects a broader aspiration for equity, development, and inclusion for the Southeast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X51ru6N-NOo
Aguocha made the statement during an interaction with journalists at his country home, where he addressed concerns surrounding agitation in the region and his position on related national issues.

According to him, the Biafra ideology should not be narrowly interpreted as a call for secession alone, but as a mindset rooted in the desire for economic advancement, regional development, and equal opportunities for Ndigbo within the Nigerian federation.

“I am not an IPOB member, but I believe in the ideology of Biafra,” he stated, explaining that many people from the Southeast see the concept as a push for rebuilding the region and creating a thriving economic environment capable of attracting investments and opportunities.

The federal lawmaker, however, distanced himself from violent methods associated with some aspects of the agitation, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved through peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue.

He maintained that true development of the Southeast would require deliberate efforts to address infrastructural deficits, improve federal presence, and ensure fair representation of Ndigbo in national affairs.

Aguocha further argued that agitation in the region is largely driven by perceived marginalization, noting that issues such as limited federal projects, lack of key institutions, and unequal access to opportunities continue to fuel dissatisfaction among the people.

While reaffirming his commitment to justice and equity, the lawmaker called on the Federal Government to pay closer attention to the concerns of the Southeast and adopt inclusive policies that would strengthen national unity.

PoliticsGovernor Otti Rules Out Defection, Says Labour Party Crisis Resolved (video) by Metrix147(op): 6:32am On Mar 28
Governor Alex Otti has reassured Abians that the internal crisis within the Labour Party has been fully resolved, declaring that the party is now stabilizing and regaining strength ahead of its upcoming activities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGSmYek2u5Y
Speaking during the March edition of his monthly media chat, “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the governor said the issues that previously affected the party had been conclusively settled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with the Independent National Electoral Commission complying with the court’s decision.

According to him, the resolution of the dispute has restored confidence and direction within the party, noting that the Labour Party is already taking steps to reposition itself.

“Labour Party had a problem, but that problem has been resolved by the Supreme Court, and INEC has respected that decision. The party is now back on its feet and will be strong very soon,” Otti stated.

The governor disclosed that party registration is currently ongoing across the country, urging members and supporters who are yet to register to take advantage of the window provided.

“As we speak, registration is going on. Those who haven’t registered should do so. There is still an opportunity,” he added.

Otti further revealed that the party would soon commence its congresses, leading up to a national convention, as part of efforts to consolidate its structures nationwide.

Addressing concerns about possible defections, the governor dismissed such speculations, insisting that there was no reason for members to leave the party given the latest developments.

“In the light of this information, the issue of defection does not arise. I will also discourage anyone from defecting,” he said.

CrimeNigerian Army Disowns Alleged Soldier Linked To Armed Robbery In Abia (Video) by Metrix147(op): 1:30am On Mar 19
The Nigerian Army has distanced itself from an individual alleged to be involved in armed robbery in Abia State, describing him as a criminal impersonator falsely parading as a serving soldier.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIBEkZMIwJI

In a press release issued by the Headquarters, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ohafia, the Army said its attention was drawn to reports circulating on social media claiming that one Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka Peter, purportedly attached to the Brigade, was involved in criminal activities.

However, the Army categorically denied the claim, stating that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is not a member of the Nigerian Army but an impostor using the identity of a soldier to perpetrate crimes.

According to the statement signed by the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Captain Mazinho Attah, every genuine soldier of the Nigerian Army is duly identified with a unique service number, and no record of the suspect exists within the 14 Brigade or any of its units.

The Army further noted that during interrogation, the suspect could not be linked to any recognized unit under the Brigade, reinforcing the conclusion that he is an unscrupulous criminal impersonator.

The Nigerian Army strongly condemned the act of impersonation, reiterating its commitment to maintaining strict discipline, professionalism, and accountability among its personnel.

It emphasized that any serving soldier found guilty of criminal conduct would be subjected to due process in line with military laws and regulations.

PoliticsAPC Reaffirms Uche Ogah’s Suspension, Says Support For Otti Personal Decision by Metrix147(op): 7:50pm On Mar 16
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed that former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Samson Ogah, remains under suspension from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB6bn4LtXl0
The party clarified on Monday during an emergency meeting involving members of the State Working Committee and the 17 Local Government Area chairmen held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia.

Speaking at the meeting, the APC State Legal Adviser, Barr. Virgilius Nwankwo stated that Ogah has remained suspended since 2022 in line with the party’s constitution, following actions considered to be against the party’s interest.

According to him, the suspension extends from Ogah’s polling unit and ward, stressing that the party has not taken any step to ratify or lift the disciplinary action taken against him.

Nwankwo explained that Ogah’s recent public endorsement of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for a second term in 2027 was done strictly in his personal capacity and does not represent the position of the APC or that of a recognized party stakeholder.

He maintained that since the suspension remains in force, Ogah cannot speak or act on behalf of the party.

The legal adviser also emphasized that the party leadership in Abia remains united and committed to upholding party discipline and constitutional provisions.

Among those present at the emergency meeting were the Deputy Chairman of the APC in Abia State, Chief Chinedu Ihiesulo, members of the State Working Committee, and the 17 Local Government Area chairmen.

ABN TV recalls that Dr. Uche Ogah, while speaking during an event in Isuikwuato on Saturday, publicly declared support for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid in 2027.

Ogah had stated that despite being a member of the APC, he and his supporters would back Governor Otti to continue what he described as the transformation of Abia State.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-Lkh04syCk
He said, “I have said it times without number and I am saying it again. In 2027, I, Uche Ogah, my family, my relatives and everyone who loves me in Abia will support Governor Alex Otti’s re-election so that he will continue his good work. Everything is not about politics. I am an APC member but I cannot deny the fact that Alex has transformed our state.”

PoliticsHouse Of Reps Petitions Over Alleged Illegal Mining In Abia Community (VIDEO) by Metrix147(op): 6:39pm On Mar 11
The House of Representatives has received a petition concerning alleged illegal mining activities in Imobi Autonomous Community, Achara Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. The petition was presented on the floor of the House by the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGtgJzMbnos
The petition, written by the traditional ruler of Imobi Autonomous Community, Eze Sir Simeon C. Chukwuemeka (KJW), Imobi IV, accused Limei International Company Nigeria Limited and some individuals in the community of allegedly facilitating unlawful quarry operations in the area.

According to the petition, the company reportedly obtained a quarry lease license from the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office in Abuja covering nine cadastral units of mining land in the community. However, the monarch alleged that the consent letter used to secure the license was signed by individuals who were neither landowners in the area nor authorized representatives of the community.

The traditional ruler further alleged that one of the signatories falsely presented himself as the community's paramount ruler, despite not holding any recognized traditional title, noting that such consent letters should have been signed by the rightful landowners and the community's recognized traditional authority.

The petition also stated that the community had earlier written to the Director-General of the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office and other authorities, challenging the legality of the license and calling for its revocation. Despite these complaints, the quarry lease was reportedly granted.

In addition, the community disclosed that its legal representatives had filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Umuahia seeking redress over the matter.

The petition warned that allowing the mining operation to proceed under the disputed circumstances could create tension within the community and potentially lead to a breakdown of law and order.

Presenting the petition, Hon. Amobi Ogah urged the National Assembly to intervene and ensure that due process is followed in the allocation of mining licenses, while protecting the rights of host communities.

The House of Representatives subsequently received the petition and referred it to the appropriate committee for further investigation and necessary legislative action.

PoliticsNo Governor Is Borrowing To Pay Salaries Again, President Tinubu Brags (Video) by Metrix147(op): 1:51am On Mar 10
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated that no state governor in Nigeria is currently struggling to borrow from banks to pay workers’ salaries, describing the development as a sign that the nation’s economy is gradually stabilizing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlVmR6B4eV4

The President made the remark while addressing religious and traditional leaders during a gathering held to mark the coinciding fasting periods of Ramadan and Lent.

According to Tinubu, the economic reforms introduced by his administration have helped improve the financial standing of states, enabling governors to meet their obligations to workers without resorting to emergency borrowing.

“No governor in this country, in any of your states, is now running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” Tinubu said.

He noted that the situation was very challenging when his administration assumed office, but assured that significant progress had been made in stabilizing the nation’s economy.

The President said Nigeria had been saved from the brink of bankruptcy through tough but necessary economic decisions taken by the Federal Government.

“It was very daunting and very challenging when we took over, but today I can say with pride and joy that we are surviving and the economy has turned the corner,” he added.

Tinubu also revealed that pensioners are gradually receiving relief as the government continues to implement policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

He reiterated that his administration remains committed to investing in critical sectors such as agriculture and education to ensure a better future for the next generation.

The President further assured Nigerians that despite security challenges, including terrorism and banditry, the Federal Government remains determined to restore peace and protect the country’s sovereignty.

PoliticsNo Authority Has Questioned My Legal Qualification — Kalu Responds To Allegation by Metrix147(op): 9:01pm On Mar 06
The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has dismissed allegations surrounding his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participation and attendance at the Nigerian Law School, describing the claims as unproven and politically motivated.

In a press statement issued on March 6, 2026, the Deputy Speaker’s office reacted to a press conference organised by a coalition led by the Civil Society Groups of Good Governance, which raised concerns about alleged irregularities in Kalu’s NYSC service and legal education.

The statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, said the allegations were based on a petition that has not been substantiated or determined by any competent authority.

According to the statement, Kalu remains a qualified legal practitioner whose credentials have been scrutinized at various stages of his career.

It recalled that the Deputy Speaker was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2011 and duly enrolled as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after completing the statutory requirements supervised by the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Law School.

“At no time since his call to the Bar has any competent legal authority invalidated his qualification or professional status,” the statement said.

The office noted that the controversy followed a petition reportedly submitted by a former official of the Nigerian Bar Association, requesting that the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee and the National Youth Service Corps examine aspects of the Deputy Speaker’s academic and service records.

However, it stressed that the existence of a petition does not amount to proof of wrongdoing and warned against what it described as attempts to “convict individuals in the court of public opinion.”

The statement also suggested that the allegations were part of a coordinated smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Deputy Speaker, adding that some civic organisations had cautioned against politicising the matter.

It further noted that similar claims were raised during the 2023 political contests but were dismissed in legal proceedings where Kalu affirmed the authenticity of his credentials.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and the rule of law, the Deputy Speaker’s office said he is ready to cooperate fully with any competent authority should clarification or documentation be required.

The statement emphasized that Nigeria’s democratic system is built on the principle of presumption of innocence and due process, warning that calls for Kalu to step aside based on unverified claims could set a dangerous precedent for politically motivated attacks on public officials.

The Deputy Speaker, the statement added, remains focused on his legislative responsibilities and on advancing national development while strengthening democratic institutions.

The press release urged members of the public to disregard what it described as attempts to politicize the issue and allow relevant institutions to examine any petition through proper legal processes.

Politics2027: Abia APC Holds State Congress, Kalu Declares Party Ready To Capture State by Metrix147(op): 9:03am On Mar 04
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully conducted its state congress, with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu declared that the party is fully prepared to win the governorship election in the state in 2027.

The congress, held under a consensus arrangement, produced Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, a former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, as the new State Chairman of the party. Chidi Avoaja emerged as State Secretary, while Uche Aguoru was elected Publicity Secretary. The former Publicity Secretary, Benedict Godson, was elected Assistant Secretary, among other members of the newly constituted state executive committee.

Speaking during the congress, Kalu described the peaceful conduct of the exercise as a sign of a new direction in political party administration in Abia State.

According to him, the consensus arrangement adopted for the congress, which allowed party leaders across different levels to nominate candidates, demonstrated that the APC had been returned to the people.

“With the congress concluded, the APC is now stronger in Abia State. The party is ready to break barriers and win elections,” Kalu said.

The Deputy Speaker also expressed confidence that the APC would deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“Abia is ready for President Bola Tinubu and ready to give him the votes he deserves. We are not negotiating with anyone for the President to secure 25 percent of the votes in Abia. We have the capacity to deliver more than 80 percent for him in 2027,” he stated.

Kalu added that the party would soon organise a major APC rally in the state that would attract top leaders of the party, including the President and Vice President.

“What we have done today is not a rally. Abia should get ready because the APC rally is coming, where the President, his Vice, and other party leaders will be present,” he added.

He further noted that the southern political bloc remains firmly behind President Tinubu and urged party members to mobilise support for his re-election.

Also speaking, the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Donatus Nwamkpa, commended party leaders including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, for their efforts in ensuring the success of the congress.

Nwamkpa expressed optimism that with such leadership, the APC would produce the next governor of Abia State in 2027.

Similarly, the Chairman of the National Committee for the Abia Congress, Emmanuel Go’ar, praised the Local Organising Committee led by Chief Marc Wabara for successfully coordinating the congress.

Several party stakeholders who spoke at the event also commended the leadership of the party for reconciling previously aggrieved factions and pledged their support for the newly elected state executive.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive.

He pledged to lead the party with humility and dedication, assuring that the APC would work tirelessly to ensure that Abia becomes an APC-controlled state in 2027.

Politics“When You Come To My Media Chat, Prepare Very Well” — Otti Tells Journalist by Metrix147(op): 9:49am On Feb 28

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13PXzDXkcvM

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has strongly defended the impact of his administration’s reforms, insisting that the results of governance in the state are visible and can be felt by residents in their daily lives.

The exchange occurred during the February edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians”, when a journalist, Chika Nwabueze of Don Media Group, asked the governor to provide measurable and transparent data showing how his policies have improved the economic and living conditions of ordinary Abians beyond infrastructure projects.

The journalist noted that while the administration had received praise for visible road construction and reforms, critics believe more verifiable evidence is needed to demonstrate inclusive governance and measurable economic impact.

Responding, Governor Otti questioned the foundation of the inquiry and challenged the journalist directly.

“You have not said anything. Do you live in Abia?” the governor asked.

He went further to cite practical examples of changes residents experience daily.

“The road you use, is it tarred? Do your children pay school fees? But you see, children that don’t pay school fees, right?”

Otti insisted that the monthly media engagement is a serious forum and should not be used for what he described as poorly framed questions.

“This media chat is a serious media chat. We are not here to massage your opposition,” he said.

“When we throw this open for people to ask questions, it doesn’t mean people should be stupid.”

The governor maintained that governance outcomes should be assessed through observable changes rather than abstract demands for statistics from the executive.

“If you can’t feel what is happening in this state where you live, then I’m sorry, I can’t help you,” he said.

“That’s not my business. My business is to deliver on my promises.”

Listing areas he believes demonstrate measurable progress, Otti referenced improved road infrastructure, reduced accidents and travel time, the introduction of free electric buses, and expanded access to healthcare services.

“Because roads have been done, accidents have reduced, travel time has reduced, and there are electric buses all over the place that are free of charge,” he stated.

“There are 200 primary health care centres that were not here before.”

He added: “If you want the governor to sit and tell you the economic impact, then something is wrong.”

Concluding the exchange, Governor Otti advised journalists to come better prepared for future sessions.

“Next time, when you are coming to ask a question, prepare very well,” he said.

Despite the tense moment, the governor reiterated that his administration remains focused on delivering on campaign promises and believes that government performance should be evaluated based on visible outcomes and practical improvements that residents can independently verify.

Politics“No One Is Bigger Than APC” — Deputy Speaker Kalu (VIDEO) by Metrix147(op): 4:09pm On Feb 26
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly committed to harmonisation as the approved model for conducting its ward and local government congresses across the country.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiP3DnMe9Y0
Speaking at the Renewed Hope Partners Office in Umuahia, Kalu described the harmonisation strategy as a carefully thought-out decision by the party’s leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at preserving unity, preventing factional crises, and strengthening internal democracy within the APC.

According to him, harmonisation is not a compromise of democratic principles but a strategic mechanism to promote inclusiveness, balance interests, and ensure that every stakeholder has a sense of belonging in the party structure from the grassroots to the state level.

“The APC is a collective platform owned by all members. No individual is bigger than the party,” Kalu stated firmly.

As a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and caucus, the Deputy Speaker disclosed that it was clearly resolved that there would be no room for parallel congresses or multiple processes capable of triggering avoidable conflicts.

He revealed that whenever disagreements surfaced in some states, President Tinubu insisted that decisions reached by the NEC and caucus must be upheld without exception. This, he said, led to prompt interventions by the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) to restore order and party discipline.

Kalu noted that the earlier misunderstandings in Abia State required his direct involvement, prompting his return to oversee the smooth implementation of the harmonised structure and reinforce grassroots ownership of the party.

The APC ward congresses are scheduled to hold on Wednesday, February 25, while the local government congresses will follow on February 26.

To ensure credibility and transparency, Kalu announced the deployment of national congress, screening, and appeal committees, adding that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will monitor the exercise.

Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Goar, assured party members that the harmonisation directive has been strictly adhered to and pledged that the congresses would reflect the collective will of stakeholders.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Abia seven-man committee liaising with the national body, Sir Mac Wabara, expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the confidence placed in them, promising that the committee would deliver a peaceful, credible, and acceptable process.

PoliticsAbia Airport: Focus On Runway, Grant Us Access To Farmlands — Landowners To Govt by Metrix147(op): 5:41pm On Feb 18
Landowners affected by the proposed Abia Airport project in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, have appealed to the Abia State Government to concentrate construction on the designated runway area while allowing them access to surrounding farmlands ahead of the new farming season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iysr1H3kC_I
The communities of Okpuala, Umuezenta, and Umuelenwa in Umuomainta Autonomous Community, Mbawsi, stated that they had resumed control of their lands, citing a lack of transparency and insincerity in the land acquisition and compensation process under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

According to the landowners, the decision was driven by the need to prevent hunger and worsening economic hardship after many families were unable to farm in the previous season.

They also accused officials of the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Survey of failing to address repeated complaints about alleged fictitious names on compensation lists, insisting that genuine landowners were not being adequately engaged and that public confidence in the process had significantly declined.

Speaking during a tour of the proposed runway site with journalists, the Village Head of Umuezenta and Secretary of the Nsulu Landowners Association, Mr. Echezolam Ukaumunna, emphasized that the communities support development but are concerned about fairness and transparency in compensation.

He explained that while the landowners were willing to release the 3.54-kilometre stretch earmarked for the runway, they were pleading with the government to allow continued access to farmlands located outside the construction corridor.

Ukaumunna alleged the discovery of numerous fictitious names across compensation records for Okpuala, Umuezenta, and Umuelenwa, claiming that several genuine landowners, some with between 50 and 80 land portions, had yet to receive payment.

He called on the government to publicly release the names of all persons reportedly compensated to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.

The community leader further claimed that authorities had not disclosed the compensation rates per land portion or for economic crops, alleging that some landowners were invited to Umuahia and asked to sign indemnity documents without a clear explanation of how payment figures were determined.

In separate remarks, Isaac Ndukwe and Mrs. Ihuoma Ogubunka decried what they described as persistent opacity in negotiations and urged Governor Alex Otti to personally review the conduct of officials handling discussions with the affected communities.

They noted that the inability to cultivate farmland in the previous year had intensified hardship among families. Still, they maintained that the communities remain open to dialogue, provided engagement is conducted transparently and directly with verified landowners.

An Anglican priest in the Umuahia Diocese, Ven. Chike Onuigbo, narrowly escaped death after a Toyota Chryster vehicle he was driving suddenly caught fire and burned to ashes along the Uzuakoli–Ubani–Akara Road in Abia State.

Ven. Onuigbo, who serves at St. Thomas Church, Umuana, said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:15 p.m. while he was travelling from Umuahia to Uzuakoli to deliver the repaired vehicle to his father.

Speaking with ABN TV, the cleric explained that shortly after passing an army checkpoint near an estate at Ubani and continuing his journey, he heard an unusual sound from the vehicle, which was immediately followed by thick smoke from the engine compartment. He said he quickly pulled over, but the car doors locked while smoke filled the interior.

According to him, he managed to escape by climbing through the window before the fire intensified.

Good Samaritans and commuters at the scene reportedly made frantic efforts to extinguish the fire using more than ten fire extinguishers, but the flames eventually overwhelmed the vehicle, which burnt completely to ashes within minutes.

PoliticsNo Law Compels Governor To Operate Only From Govt House — Governor Otti by Metrix147(op): 7:28am On Feb 02
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that there is no legal provision mandating a sitting governor to operate exclusively from the Government House, insisting that the Constitution does not prescribe a specific place of residence or official duty post for a state chief executive.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLsdHuj9CGo

Governor Otti made the assertion while responding to questions during a media parley in Umuahia, amid criticisms and threats of legal action by some of his predecessors and their loyalists over his decision to temporarily operate from his private residence in Nvosi.

The governor said he was unfazed by the threats and challenged those behind them to proceed to court without delay, adding that his legal team was fully prepared to defend his position.

“I am waiting to be sued. My lawyers are ready. I have looked at the Constitution, and there is nowhere it says I must live in a particular place,” Otti stated.

Otti explained that his decision was informed by the poor state of facilities at the Government House, which he said had been left in a deplorable condition by previous administrations.

According to him, the Governor’s Lodge and a new office complex within the Government House are currently undergoing reconstruction to restore the facility to a befitting standard.

“The state in which they left the Government House speaks for itself. I don’t owe anybody an explanation,” he added.

The controversy follows recent statements attributed to former Abia State governors, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Theodore Orji, and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and their supporters, who reportedly threatened to initiate legal action to compel Otti to relocate fully to the Government House in Umuahia.

Politics2025: Abians Are Happy – Uche Ogah Praises Otti’s Performance, Supports 2nd Term by Metrix147(op):
A former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, and an APC chieftain, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has thrown his weight behind Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, declaring that the Governor deserves a second term in office based on his performance so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWqvysiwsbI
Dr. Ogah made the declaration on Tuesday during an interview with journalists after a closed-door meeting with Governor Otti at the Governor’s country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area.

According to the former minister, his visit was primarily to extend New Year greetings to the Governor, but he used the opportunity to commend the administration’s visible impact across the state.

“I think he deserves a second term. I’ve said it times without number. It’s not something arguable anywhere,” Ogah stated. “God has used him to wipe away the tears of Abia people. In just a few years of governance, people can already see positive results coming from his efforts. Abians are grateful. Abians are happy.”

He emphasized that Governor Otti should be given the opportunity to continue his work and fully implement his development plans for the state.

“He should have the opportunity to govern us a second time, so that he can put out there all that he has planned for Abia people. I think it is something that everybody should support him to complete his second term,” he added.

Speaking on the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dr. Ogah, who is also a former governorship candidate in the state, described the growing political interest and debates as a normal feature of democratic competition.

“Normally in politics, when you have your goods, you need to sell your goods. That’s what opposition means. But at the end of the day, God and Abians will determine who governs them,” he said.

When asked about his personal political ambition for 2027, Dr. Ogah dismissed any plans to contest, stating that his focus is on supporting the current leadership at both state and federal levels.

“The ambition I have is to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the presidency and support Governor Alex Otti for governorship. That’s my ambition,” he declared.

The endorsement adds to the growing list of political figures publicly expressing support for Governor Otti’s administration as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape across Abia State.

PoliticsCity Boy Movement Unveils Ex-abia Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji As State Chairman by Metrix147(op): 7:55pm On Jan 24
The City Boy Movement has officially unveiled the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, FNSE (Ikukuoma Abia), as its State Chairman, marking a significant boost to the Movement’s political mobilization drive in Abia State.

The announcement, made in Umuahia, signals a strategic alliance between the youth-driven political platform and a seasoned legislator widely regarded for his legislative leadership and grassroots engagement.

Orji, a two-term lawmaker and the 11th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly between 2019 and 2023, is known for championing legislative independence and institutional stability during his tenure. A graduate of Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), he brings a blend of professional expertise and political experience to the Movement.

The City Boy Movement cited Orji’s signature “Direct Touch” Initiative which focused on direct empowerment of youths and women through livelihood support as a key factor in his selection. The group also noted his recent transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a move that has further strengthened the party’s structure and expanded its grassroots reach in the state.

Orji is a recipient of several recognitions, including the Sun Public Service Award and Champion Newspaper’s Most Outstanding Speaker, accolades that, according to the Movement, underscore his record of public service.

Speaking at the unveiling, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), Director of the City Boy Movement in Abia State, described the development as a turning point for the organization in the South East.

“Today, we haven't just added a name to our roster; we have gained a General. Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji is a builder by profession and a builder of men by calling. His acceptance to serve as our Chairman signals a new dawn for the City Boy Movement in the South East. With Ikukuoma, the wind of progress is now at our backs,” Igbokwe said.

He added that the Movement remains committed to mobilizing citizens in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that Orji’s leadership would help deepen political participation and organizational growth across Abia State.

The City Boy Movement welcomed Orji into the fold, expressing confidence that his leadership would help shape the political future of the state and strengthen the Movement’s presence across the region.

PoliticsKalu Insists APC Will Retain Abia, Criticizes Gov. Otti’s Political Structure by Metrix147(op): 1:49pm On Jan 19
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains politically strong in Abia State, dismissing suggestions that another party could take control of the state due to internal disagreements within the ruling party.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW4hK6RUnu8
Speaking at a recent political gathering, the former Abia State governor described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a committed democrat who, he said, must allow the democratic process to run its course. Kalu noted that he supports the President’s approach to handling political competition and party affairs.

The senator also took aim at the administration of Governor Alex Otti, alleging that the Labour Party-led government lacks a solid grassroots political network. According to Kalu, the APC maintains a stronger presence “on the ground” across communities in the state.

He further criticized some of the governor’s appointees, claiming that certain commissioners are unfamiliar with their political environments, including their polling units, a remark that questioned the depth of the administration’s local political engagement.

In a related development, Kalu accused Governor Otti of allowing his aide to verbally attack and insult him, despite what he described as his efforts to maintain a cordial relationship with the governor.

The comments reflect rising political tension in Abia State as major political actors and parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolutions were reached through a joint decision of Ebem Ohafia youths, the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), and the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders, following growing concerns over security challenges. The measures took immediate effect on Monday, January 13, 2026.

Under the new directives, the sale, use, and trafficking of hard drugs and illicit substances have been completely banned within Ebem Ohafia. Community authorities stressed that anyone found engaging in such activities will face stiff fines and disciplinary sanctions, irrespective of social status.

The community also condemned the rise in cult-related activities, issuing a final ultimatum to individuals involved to renounce such practices or face severe community sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

In a bid to prevent Ebem Ohafia from becoming a refuge for criminal elements, individuals who have committed crimes in other communities and relocated to Ebem as hideouts have been ordered to vacate the community immediately. Any indigene found harbouring or providing accommodation for such persons will be held accountable.

Additionally, the use of weapons, brandishing or firing of firearms, and violent confrontations have been outlawed. Offenders will be handed over to security agencies and subjected to heavy community penalties. The community further resolved that Ndi Ikwu will bear responsibility for defaulters within their jurisdiction, including possible suspension from hosting ceremonies and communal activities.

PoliticsEx-Abia Governors Move To Sue Otti Over Operating From Private Residence (Video) by Metrix147(op): 6:38am On Jan 10
A coalition of former Abia State governors, legislators, and political appointees who served between 1999 and 2023 has announced plans to institute legal action against Governor Alex Otti over his continued operation from a private residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNOT_VOzmKo

The decision was reached at the group’s second meeting held at the residence of former Abia State governor, Theodore Orji, where members resolved to compel the governor to relocate official activities to the Government House in Umuahia.

Among those listed as members of the group are former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, alongside other past political office holders.

In a communique issued after the meeting on Friday, the group stated that the planned lawsuit is aimed at enforcing what it described as the proper use of official government facilities.

“A lawsuit should be instituted compelling Governor Alex Otti to operate from the Government House, Umuahia,” the communique read.

The communique, which was read by a former media aide in the Abia State Government, Victor Ike Oye, expressed strong dismay that Governor Otti is still conducting state business from his personal residence rather than the officially designated Government House.

Beyond the legal threat, the group also declared its readiness to mobilize politically for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. It further expressed gratitude to the President for nominating one of its members, former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, for an ambassadorial appointment.

The development adds a new dimension to the political discourse in Abia State, as the controversy over the governor’s operating base now appears headed for the courts.
