As political debates continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia North have risen in defense of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his performance in the Senate as unmatched in the history of the zone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ7bC6aLttM Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Prince Emma Nwosu, an APC chieftain from Ohafia Local Government Area and convener of the Tripartite Team, said Kalu’s record of achievements places him above all those who previously represented Abia North at the Red Chamber. Tracing the history of the zone since 1999, Nwosu argued that Kalu has surpassed the developmental footprints of past senators, including Ike Nwachukwu, Uche Chukwumerije, and Mao Ohuabunwa. “When you look at the impact Senator Kalu has made in just six years, you will realize that none of his predecessors matched his level of service delivery. He has outperformed them in all ramifications,” Nwosu declared. He listed road projects, school renovations, scholarships, empowerment initiatives, and solar-powered streetlights as tangible evidence of Kalu’s effective representation across the five local government areas of Abia North. According to Nwosu, while the constitutional duty of a senator is primarily lawmaking, Kalu has leveraged his ranking position and strong relationship with the federal government to attract development to his constituency. “He is sensitive to the cries of the people and has used his influence in the Red Chamber to bring projects home. That is why the grassroots are solidly behind him,” he added. Nwosu further noted that beyond infrastructure, Kalu has been instrumental in uniting and stabilizing the APC in Abia North, particularly in Ohafia, which had previously been engulfed in internal disputes. He insisted that with the senator’s performance and growing political influence, calls for zoning the Abia North Senate seat to Ohafia are misplaced. “Leadership is not about sentiment. It is about competence, results, and the ability to deliver. Senator Kalu has done that, and that is why he remains the best option for 2027,” Nwosu said. With the APC projecting unity and banking on Kalu’s achievements, party leaders expressed confidence that the senator’s re-election bid will further consolidate the party’s dominance in the zone as the 2027 elections draw closer. Former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Obinna Oriaku, has defended the controversial ₦54 billion figures published on Abia State’s official website, insisting they were credible financial records produced under the World Bank-backed SFTAS (State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability) programme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq4PBGYtN60 Speaking during a radio programme in Aba, Oriaku explained that the documents, signed by the then Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General, enabled Abia State to earn over ₦21 million in a performance incentive grant. “To now disown those records is unfair,” Oriaku said, accusing the present administration of running a “cult system” where only insiders understand financial dealings. He warned that the lack of transparency could damage the state’s credibility. On a personal note, Oriaku stressed that he left office with his integrity intact, recalling that contractors who appreciated his transparency offered equipment to communities instead of bribes. Former Abia State Commissioner for Finance and the Commissioner representing Abia in the Federal Character Commission, FCC, Hon. Obinna Oriaku, has credited the All Progressives Congress (APC) for spearheading major infrastructural projects across Abia and the Southeast. Speaking on Issues and Views, a current affairs programme on Enyimba FM Aba on Monday, Oriaku listed the rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Road Aba, reopening of Ikot Ekpene–Aba Road after 20 years, and the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic at Ngodo, Umunneochi, as key interventions made possible through APC-led administrations. According to him, the Cancer and Urology centre at FMC Umuahia and federal roads linking Umuahia–Bende–Ohafia, Onu Imo–Umuahia, and Umueka–Owerrinta also came through federal initiatives. “These are federal projects executed with the express approval of Mr. President. Even when states double into them, they are reimbursed. Credit must go to the APC government for making this possible,” Oriaku said. He further praised Senator Dave Umahi’s leadership as Minister of Works, noting that Southeast states now enjoy smoother approvals for federal road projects. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Paul Ikonne, has faulted Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, over what he described as “contradictions” surrounding the controversial ₦54 billion allegedly spent on school renovations in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq4PBGYtN60 Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice, PhD, Ikonne urged the governor to “stop distracting the people with wordplay” and instead provide clear evidence of the schools renovated under the huge expenditure. Ikonne questioned why a government that prides itself on employing “seasoned accountants” would, according to him, continue to give conflicting figures about public spending. “The issue before Abians is simple: where are the schools, and where is the ₦54 billion?” he asked. He recalled that similar promises had been made in the past, citing an earlier ₦18 billion earmarked for school renovations “without anything tangible on the ground.” Citing Sahara Reporters’ recent investigation, Ikonne said the governor’s dismissal of the ₦54 billion expenditure claim as a mere “mistake” was inconsistent with official state records. According to the publication, budget performance data show that between October and December 2024 alone, Abia State recorded ₦54.066 billion spent on the rehabilitation and repairs of public schools, while the total for the 2024 fiscal year stood at ₦58.323 billion. Ikonne argued that if Governor Otti insists that only ₦2.1 billion was spent, then his administration must explain why its own budget documents show otherwise. He further noted that the 2024 approved budget allocated ₦64.7 billion for the renovation and modelling of 51 schools — averaging about ₦1.26 billion per school. “The data is clear. Either the governor is deliberately misleading Abians, or he is unaware of what his administration is signing off,” Ikonne maintained. He also welcomed the Freedom of Information (FOI) request from the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD), which is demanding a detailed breakdown of the ₦54 billion expenditure, including a list of schools renovated, their locations, and the nature of the work carried out. “Budgets are estimates, but expenditures are facts. The documents clearly show ₦54 billion was reported as spent between October and December 2024. If the governor disputes this, let him publish the schools. Abians are not asking for excuses — we are asking for evidence,” Ikonne said. Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that his administration will no longer tolerate the activities of vandals and scrap dealers responsible for damaging critical public infrastructure across the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjxFJ3X1M9Q The Governor made this known on Friday, August 15, during a media chat, while responding to questions raised by ABN TV boss, Ifeanyi Okali, who drew attention to the growing menace of vandalism linked to scavengers and scrap dealers, popularly called Ndi Akpakara. Okali highlighted a disturbing case in Umuahia where scavengers reportedly went under a newly constructed bridge at New Road (Down Below) and dismantled vital metal components, leaving the structure already showing signs of bending. He also recounted other incidents, including the theft of a ladder belonging to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) staff while on duty. Governor Otti, in his response, condemned the acts, stressing that his government is working on legislation to decisively curb the trend. “We have been on it and we want to come up with legislation. I will not talk much about it until we are ready. But for now, there are also laws to deal with things like vandalism,” the Governor stated. He further warned that anyone caught stealing or vandalizing public facilities would be treated as a criminal and face the full wrath of the law. “If somebody stole a ladder, that person is a thief. If you catch him, you do to him what you do to a thief. But the people who deliberately go and begin to dismantle iron rods and all that, those people should be treated, if they are caught, the way they should be treated,” Otti said. The Governor assured Abians that his administration remains committed to protecting public infrastructure and will ensure vandals and scrap dealers are decisively dealt with. Abia State is set to make history as it plays host to the First Abia Para Badminton International Championship and the All-African Para Badminton Championships, scheduled for September 30 to October 12, 2025, ABN TV reports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrBCFrXWCZE The landmark twin championships will attract more than 224 athletes from over 16 countries, including 58 players from Rwanda and India, for two weeks of high-level para-badminton competition sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA). The official Media and Marketing Reveal Luncheon for the event was held on Tuesday, August 12, at the International Conference Center, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia. Organized by the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) and the Abia State Badminton Association, in collaboration with the Abia State Government and the Ministry of Sports, the gathering brought together sports stakeholders, media executives, and top government officials. National Coordinator for Para Badminton and Second Vice President of the BFN, Mr. Ekeoma Samuel, assured that preparations were on track. “We are ready to host the first Para Badminton Championship and All-African Para Badminton Championship here in Abia State. This will be a massive, week-long event spanning over two weeks. Our Governor, Deputy Governor, and all stakeholders have given their full support to make this a reality,” he said. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, commended Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for approving the hosting rights and providing substantial funding. “His Excellency ordered the renovation of this venue, procured specialized mobility buses for wheelchair athletes, and invested in cutting-edge para-badminton equipment — the first of its kind in Africa. This is inclusion in action,” Ananaba noted. Representing the Governor, Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, who also chairs the Main Organizing Committee, described the championships as a defining moment in the state’s sports history during his keynote address. Keynote Address by Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu “It is with great pride and deep joy that I welcome you all to the beautiful city of Umuahia for the first-ever Abia Para Badminton International Championships and the All-African Para Badminton Championships. These back-to-back world-class events, sanctioned respectively by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), mark a defining moment in our state’s sports history. Hosting these championships in Abia is more than a sporting achievement — it is a statement of our capacity, hospitality, and vision. This is the first time that such high-profile para badminton events are taking place on our soil, and it positions Abia not only as a sports destination in Nigeria but as a proud member of the global badminton family. It is an opportunity for our state to showcase its organizational excellence, cultural warmth, and unwavering respect for athletes of all abilities. Let me state unequivocally that these events would not have been possible without the vision and unwavering support of our sports-loving Governor, His Excellency Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR. Under his leadership, this administration has placed inclusion, diversity, and opportunity at the heart of our development agenda. The decision to host Para sports at this scale reflects our belief that talent knows no physical limitation, and that every athlete deserves the chance to compete, inspire, and excel on the global stage. Sports have always had the power to unite people beyond borders, politics, and differences. Para sports, in particular, embody resilience, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit. Over the next two weeks, Abia will welcome athletes, coaches, officials, and fans from across Africa and around the world. This inflow will stimulate our local economy from hospitality and tourism to transport and small businesses. More importantly, it will inspire a new generation of young people in Abia and Nigeria to embrace sportsmanship, perseverance, and inclusivity. As we flag off these championships, I call on all stakeholders, including government agencies, corporate sponsors, the media, sports associations, and our citizens, to give their full support. Let us fill the stands, cheer our athletes, volunteer our services, and project the positive image of Abia State to the world. Together, we can make these championships a benchmark for excellence in sports hosting in Africa. To our Para athletes: you are the heart of these championships. Your determination and skill inspire us all. Compete with pride, play fair, and know that you are already champions in the eyes of Abia State. It is now my honour, on behalf of His Excellency the Governor and the people of Abia State, to officially declare the First Abia Para Badminton International Championships and the All-African Para Badminton Championships open. Thank you, and may the best athletes win.” Other dignitaries present included Mr. Kalu Olo, Vice Chairman of the Abia State Badminton Association; Hon. Onwuegbu, Minister of Information; Mr. Chika, Head of Media; and Mr. Francis Orbih, President of the BFN, who joined virtually. The highlight of the luncheon was the presentation of a book titled “Killing Two Birds With One Stone” by Mr. Raymond Ukwa, Secretary of the Marketing and Sponsorship Subcommittee. With global sanctioning from the BWF and BCA, the championships are expected to firmly place Abia State on the world sports map, boost the state’s economy, and set a benchmark for para-sports hosting in Africa. Fresh revelations have emerged about 27-year-old Chidiebere Ohama, the suspected vandal arrested on Friday, August 2025, for stealing an Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) ladder in Umuahia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c194G6CVqqE Investigations by ABN TV have revealed that Ohama, who hails from Umuariaga Ohoma in Ikwuano Local Government Area, had been involved in another high-profile crime just last month. According to the owner of Sochima Hotel at New Road, Umuahia, Mr. Ikenna Sochima, the suspect and his gang scaled a ladder into the hotel premises in July and broke into a guest room. The guest, who had travelled from abroad, reportedly lost two laptops, an iPhone, $150, and other valuables. Shockingly, the gang also allegedly used the victim’s SIM card to withdraw nearly half a million naira from his bank account. “When my guest returned to his room and found his valuables missing, he raised an alarm,” Sochima told ABN TV. “I immediately checked our CCTV footage and saw the faces of the suspects. I alerted the Operation Crush security team, who moved into the forest area known as ‘Down Below’ and identified Chidiebere when his picture was shown to the hoodlums there.” Sochima said the suspect was apprehended, confronted with the evidence, and confessed to the crime before being handed over to the police. “It was shocking to see him on ABN TV yesterday claiming that the EEDC ladder theft was his first offence. He is a serial criminal,” Sochima stated. The hotel owner further disclosed that he has been actively fighting crime around the New Road axis since opening his hotel and has pledged to continue working closely with security agencies to ensure the area remains crime-free. On Friday, Ohama was caught by vigilantes at Mission Hill for stealing and selling an EEDC ladder to a scrap dealer at New Road, Umuahia. During his initial confession, he admitted to living in a forest hideout and working with a gang that vandalises government and private properties. Security operatives say the latest revelations confirm that Ohama is a repeat offender with a record of targeting high-value items. The police are expected to consolidate the cases as investigations continue. Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to the development of football in Nigeria, pledging continued support for the growth of the sport at both state and national levels, ABN TV reports. Governor Otti gave this assurance on Tuesday, July 30, 2025, during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by its President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the Government House in Umuahia. The Governor emphasized the importance of football as a unifying force and a tool for youth engagement, development, and social cohesion. He noted that under his leadership, Abia State will continue to serve as a strong pillar in Nigeria’s football landscape. “Football remains one of the most powerful platforms to engage our youth and bring people together. We are committed to supporting not just football in Abia, but also contributing meaningfully to the national football development agenda,” Governor Otti stated. He also disclosed that his government has approved the immediate upgrade of the Umuahia Township Stadium to a modern standard for short-term use by Abia Warriors Football Club and other teams. He further unveiled plans for a long-term project — the establishment of Abia Stadium City, a world-class sports and entertainment complex already in the design phase. Governor Otti commended the NFF for its role in promoting the game across the country and promised to deepen collaboration with the federation for the benefit of Nigerian football. In his response, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, applauded Governor Otti’s clear vision for sports development and his administration’s strides in repositioning Abia as the "home of football" in Nigeria. He said, “My route is Aba–Owerri Road. The woman stopped my Keke and told me she was going to the Railway, so I picked her up. When I stopped at Stanbic Bank, a man approached and said he was going to the Park. Renowned security expert and political figure, Sir Chikwe Udensi, has praised Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for his efforts in restoring confidence in governance, particularly through regular salary payments and visible infrastructure projects. However, he also raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the state’s contracting processes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMrQn8Q4joI Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Sir Udensi noted that Governor Otti has made commendable strides since assuming office, especially in areas where previous administrations failed. “He pays salaries. He builds roads. That’s something to commend,” Udensi said. He acknowledged that Governor Otti’s administration represents a positive shift in Abia’s political direction, describing the transition as a move “from bad to good.” However, he stressed the importance of going beyond good governance to achieve the best outcomes for the people. Despite the progress, Udensi expressed serious reservations about the cost of infrastructure projects being executed under the current administration. He cited examples of road contracts allegedly awarded at inflated rates. “Some six-kilometer roads are costing over ₦36 billion. That’s not honest,” he said, calling for greater fiscal responsibility and openness in the awarding and execution of public contracts. Sir Udensi urged the Otti administration to strengthen transparency mechanisms, adopt competitive bidding, and involve civil society in monitoring public procurement. “Governance is not just about building roads. It’s about doing so with integrity and ensuring public funds are used efficiently,” he added. He emphasized that sustainable development in Abia State must be driven by transparency, accountability, and citizen participation, not just infrastructure and public relations. The remarks come as the Otti-led government marks over a year in office, with rising public expectations for ethical leadership, prudent financial management, and open governance. Sir Udensi concluded by urging the people of Abia to remain vigilant and to continue demanding honest and impactful leadership from their elected officials. “We’ve seen progress, yes. But we must not stop there. Let’s aim for the best. That starts with accountability.” Source: https://abntv.com.ng/news/integrity-transparency-must-drive-abias-development-sir-udensi-tells-gov-otti-video/ Cc; lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun, OAM4J

A controversial but potentially far-reaching bill has been introduced at the National Assembly by Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, seeking to prohibit all public and civil servants in Nigeria — including their immediate family members — from patronizing private schools and healthcare services, both within and outside the country. Titled “The Private Institutions and Healthcare Services (Prohibition) Bill, 2025,” the proposed legislation is aimed at promoting accountability, restoring public confidence, and compelling improvements in Nigeria's public service delivery systems. Key Highlights of the Bill According to the bill, once enacted: No public or civil servant, whether elected, appointed, or employed at federal, state, or local government level, will be allowed to enroll their children or dependents in private schools. The restriction covers all levels — from nursery and primary to tertiary education — both locally and abroad. Similarly, public and civil servants and their immediate family members are barred from using private healthcare facilities for medical services such as consultation, tests, surgery, and treatment, unless under exceptional circumstances. The bill defines “immediate family” as legally married spouses and biological children of public or civil servants. His Royal Majesty Ozo Prince Chukwubuzor Mba, the Ozo Akajiofor II of Igbo Land and Ozo Ementa Emeimo I of Igbo Land, has emphasized the urgent need for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating that his freedom is key to restoring peace and progress in the South-East region. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSs4PccBSLw Speaking during an exclusive interview on ABN TV’s Igbo Bu Igbo program, Ozo Mba, a revered traditional leader from Nike in Enugu State, expressed concern over what he described as deliberate judicial delay in Kanu's case. He noted that despite the absence of any fresh judgment against Kanu by the Federal Government, the courts continue to prolong the legal process. He referenced Kanu’s most recent court appearance on July 18, 2025, which was adjourned to October 10, 2025, and expressed hope that the upcoming ruling would favor Kanu. Describing Kanu as “the heart of the Igbo people,” Ozo Mba maintained that the IPOB leader’s release would help address growing insecurity, farmer displacement, and violent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Igbo land. Recalling a personal visit to Kanu alongside Dr. Sylvester and Princess Nnennaya Kalu, he revealed that their discussions centered on the plight of the Igbo people, particularly the inability of farmers to access their lands due to insecurity. He quoted Kanu as urging IPOB members and supporters to remain peaceful, assuring that his mission is not violent but rooted in the pursuit of justice and peace. “Kanu is a voice for the Igbo. He does not support violence or evil. He asked us to tell the people not to panic. He will come out soon,” Ozo Mba stated. He called on all traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and stakeholders in the South-East to join hands and advocate collectively for Kanu's release, stressing that elections or political progress in the region mean little without addressing the core issue of his continued detention. The monarch concluded by praying for divine intervention in Kanu’s case and commended ABN TV for giving voice to pressing issues affecting the Igbo nation. “Until Nnamdi Kanu is free, our land will not heal. Let all leaders rise and speak with one voice.” — HRM Ozo Prince Chukwubuzor Mba Source: https://abntv.com.ng/news/nnamdi-kanu-is-not-a-violent-man-hes-a-voice-for-peace-igbo-monarch-speaks-boldly-video/ Cc; lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun, OAM4J

The political atmosphere in Abia State is beginning to heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections, as former governorship aspirant and media entrepreneur, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, hosted the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji, at his residence in Abuja. Engr. Orji, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Don Lulu during a private breakfast meeting, sparking renewed speculation about Don Lulu’s possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he contested the 2023 governorship primary and came second. The meeting comes barely days after the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, the party's Southeast Vice Chairman, Chief Ceekee Igara, and Don Lulu also met in Abuja. This development has further intensified political speculations around the media mogul’s next move. Despite the growing interest and speculations, Don Lulu has yet to make a formal declaration regarding a change in party affiliation. When contacted by ABN TV on Sunday, he simply stated, “I’m still in PDP.” However, political watchers believe that the series of high-level engagements with influential figures across party lines suggests strategic consultations are ongoing ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Abia State. With key political players making moves and alliances taking shape, all eyes are now on Don Lulu as the question lingers — who knows what’s next? As the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu resumes today, Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Hon. Obi Aguocha, member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, has reaffirmed his unwavering support and spiritual optimism regarding the case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUnwdnNabWY In a heartfelt message shared earlier with ABN TV, Hon. Aguocha likened his legal and political support for Kanu to the biblical Apostle Paul, declaring that he has “fought the good fight” and “kept the faith” on behalf of his constituent. “The legal race will be finished today. It is now over to you, God,” he stated. “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” The lawmaker further expressed strong belief in a favorable outcome, saying: “MNK will soon be free… Trust me, God will do it. It will surely end in praise.” Hon. Aguocha is among the ten individuals approved by the court to attend today’s proceedings, following Justice James Omotosho’s continued restriction on courtroom access, as earlier reported by ABN TV.
