Leaders from the Ukwa-Ngwa bloc in Abia State have urged the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, to contest the 2027 governorship election.

During a courtesy visit to Kalu on Thursday in Umuahia, the leaders, representing the old Aba political division, endorsed him citing his outstanding legislative performance and commitment to empowering Abians.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Elder Godwin Nna, a former Commissioner and ex-Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is determined to take over Abia State in 2027 and needs strong candidates like Kalu to achieve that goal.

We all from Aba division, Ukwa la Ngwa, have come here today to tell you that we want to take over Abia State. With capable people like you, APC must govern the state this time,” Nna stated.

Other notable figures, including former Deputy Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, and former Information Commissioner, Sir Don Ubani, also endorsed Kalu, praising his legislative achievements and support for Abia indigenes.

Azubuike described Kalu’s performance in the National Assembly as “excellent,” assuring that the Ukwa-Ngwa bloc would rally solidly behind him. Ubani, on his part, expressed gratitude for Kalu’s empowerment initiatives and urged him to "do more."

PoliticsDeputy Speaker Kalu Calls For South East Alignment With Tinubu’s Agenda by Metrix147(op): 3:44pm On Apr 25, 2025
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on the South East to align fully with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in order to attract more federal attention and developmental benefits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E91bsBZvlvc
Speaking in Umuahia on Thursday during the unveiling of the Renewed Hope Partners (RHP), a political mobilization group aimed at supporting President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, Kalu stressed that the time had come for the region to take a firm stand with the central government.

“The time for token support has passed. We must align decisively with the centre to transform national gains into regional progress,” Kalu said.

He highlighted several achievements of the Tinubu administration in its first two years, including $50.8 billion in proposed investments, ₦9.1 trillion in revenue generation in the first half of 2024, and $23.4 billion in foreign remittances. He also noted the success of the CNG initiative, which is expected to save ₦2 trillion monthly in fuel imports.

Kalu announced that the RHP will establish Renewed Hope Councils in every local government area of the South East, linked to the South East Development Commission (SEDC), to drive grassroots implementation of federal policies and projects.

He listed the recommencement of the Port Harcourt–Maiduguri rail corridor, set to unlock ₦50 billion in trade annually, and the SEDC’s partnership with the UNDP for a regional masterplan as key indicators of federal commitment to the region.

The Deputy Speaker further appealed to the Federal Government to prioritize critical infrastructure in the region, including construction of gas pipelines, dredging of the Onitsha River, and expansion of Onne port and energy plants in Imo State.

PoliticsAbia's Infrastructure Is Better Now Than Before - LP Vice Chairman, Igara by Metrix147(op): 3:27pm On Apr 24, 2025
The National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party (South East), Honourable Ceekay Igara, has commended the administration of Governor Alex Otti for its infrastructural development in Abia State, describing the progress as visible and commendable.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5JCOc2B8_4

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Political Perspective, a current affairs programme on ABN TV, Hon. Igara stated that while he might not be fully informed about the internal dynamics of the projects, his opinion is based on visible results.

"In terms of infrastructure, I think he's doing well. I may not understand the full implications or how the projects are being executed, but from what I see, Abia has moved from where it was to a better position under the Labour Party-led government," he said.

The Labour Party chieftain, however, declined to make conclusive remarks on other governance sectors such as education, pensions, and gratuities. He stressed that he can only speak authoritatively on issues he is directly familiar with or has personal experience in.

"When it comes to sectors like pensions and education, people make allegations, but unless I have the facts or have interacted with those affected, I can't speak on it. Those directly involved are better positioned to testify about their experiences," he added.

Hon. Igara emphasized that his role is primarily within the Labour Party's structure, noting that his jurisdiction lies in party affairs, not in day-to-day governance.

PoliticsMomentum Builds In Abia North As APC Gathers Strength Ahead Of 2027 by Metrix147(op): 6:16pm On Apr 22, 2025
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has continued its monthly rotational stakeholders' meetings, which aim to foster unity, reconciliation, and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The latest APC Ohafia LGA Stakeholders Meeting was held in Nkporo and hosted by Hon. Chief Robinson Otuwe Kalu Orji, former APC candidate for Ohafia North State Constituency of Abia State.

Speaking with ABN TV after the meeting, Prince Emma Nwosu, Chairman of APC Ohafia LGA, described the gathering as fruitful, focused on resolving internal issues and strengthening the party's grassroots structure.

“This is a regular meeting involving the three clans in Ohafia. The last was hosted in Ohafia by Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, and this month, Nkporo is the host,” Nwosu said. “For more than six months now, we've consistently held meetings geared towards uniting and reconciling party members as we prepare for 2027. Today’s meeting was well-attended despite the Easter festivities and was productive in addressing potential areas of disaffection.”

Nwosu expressed confidence in APC’s rising popularity across Abia North, stating that many individuals, including high-profile politicians, were defecting to the party due to its growing appeal and performance.

“APC is the party to beat. People are coming in large numbers, and many more are waiting for the platform to be more stable and united before joining,” he noted. “We are building peace within the party because no political house can stand without peace. We are also sensitizing and encouraging non-members to join us.”

He attributed the party’s growing support to the developmental strides of its elected representatives, particularly in infrastructure, education, and empowerment across Abia North, as well as the economic reforms at the federal level under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The country is undergoing economic recovery, and though it's painful now, we’re seeing signs of stability. Fuel prices and foreign exchange are gradually stabilizing, which points to better days ahead,” Nwosu added.

Politics'I Never Said Otti Is Stealing My Projects' - Ikpeazu Denies Allegation by Metrix147(op): 10:50am On Apr 18, 2025
Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has strongly denied making any statement accusing his successor, Governor Alex Otti, of claiming credit for projects initiated under his administration.

The rebuttal, contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka made available to ABN TV, described viral social media reports with headlines such as “Alex Otti is Stealing My Projects to Take My Glory – Ikpeazu” as false, misleading, and maliciously crafted to stir confusion and gain cheap online traffic.

Ememanka dismissed the publications as the handiwork of “merchants of evil and lazy bloggers,” stressing that Dr. Ikpeazu has not issued any statement, directly or indirectly, regarding the current administration in Abia State since leaving office.

“Dr. Ikpeazu has since moved on to matters of personal interest and has maintained a dignified silence,” the statement read. “The only occasions he has authorized publications were to clarify officially raised matters by the current government — and even that has not occurred in a long while.”

The former Governor warned that legal actions are being initiated against individuals and blog operators responsible for the fabricated stories. He also cautioned social media users against sharing unverified information, reminding the public that both the creation and dissemination of falsehoods are punishable under the law.

Efforts are reportedly underway in collaboration with security agencies to uncover those behind the fake news.

“Discerning people who want to verify if any statement came from Dr. Ikpeazu know the proper channels. Those enabling falsehood on their platforms should be ready to face the consequences,” the statement concluded.

CrimeSouth-east, Borno At Risk Of Falling To Terrorists – Kalu Raises Alarm (video) by Metrix147(op): 11:58am On Apr 15, 2025
Amid rising security concerns across the country, the Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive steps to address the deteriorating situation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DM0KQd9BkM
Speaking from China in a video posted on his social media page on Monday, Senator Kalu expressed deep concern over the worsening insecurity, particularly in Borno and the South-East regions, stressing that the situation must be handled devoid of political sentiments.

Reacting to Governor Babagana Zulum’s recent alarm that parts of Borno have been lost to insurgents, Kalu warned that if urgent action is not taken, more territories — including the South-East — could fall into the hands of terrorists.

"The Minister of Information is doing his job, but Professor Zulum is right. If the Federal Government doesn't take the right step in Borno and the South East, those areas might collapse," Kalu warned.

The former Senate Chief Whip and Chairman, Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission, urged the Federal Government to increase funding and logistical support to security agencies. He also called on the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, to consult with security chiefs and accurately brief President Bola Tinubu on the true state of security in the country.

Kalu further appealed for an end to verbal exchanges between the Minister and Governor Zulum, saying such disagreements do not help the fight against insecurity.

"For me, Professor Zulum and the Minister don’t need to argue. These are fundamental issues. If we don’t tell President Tinubu the truth, the country may become ungovernable," he said.

Commending the efforts of the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies, Kalu stressed the need for greater investment in intelligence gathering, equipment, and manpower, especially in vulnerable regions.

ABN TV gathered that the sad incident happened on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Ukaonu Street by NEPA in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.

The deceased, identified as Uche Onyekaba, a staff of the Abia Water Board from Igbere in Bende Local Government Area, was among over 20 staff members whose salaries were suspended by the Abia State Ministry of Power and Public Utilities since last year.

Sources told ABN TV that the late Uche, who had reportedly lost two of his children due to inability to afford medical care as a result of the unpaid salaries, got into a heated argument with another man over the lingering salary crisis affecting workers of the agency.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Is Not Nigeria’s Problem, But The Solution Nigeria Needs by Metrix147(op): 4:11pm On Apr 08, 2025
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has declared that his elder brother remains the man with the solution to Nigeria's numerous challenges.

Speaking with ABN TV on Tuesday, Prince Emmanuel described his brother as a "Prisoner of Conscience," who is being unjustly held by the Nigerian government despite his clear vision for justice, equity, peace, and good governance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9839dgO8baA
According to him, "Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not the problem of Nigeria; he is actually the solution Nigeria needs to overcome its current challenges — from insecurity to corruption, from marginalization to bad governance."

Prince Emmanuel lamented that rather than engage Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in dialogue or explore his ideas for a better society, the Nigerian government chose to incarcerate him unjustly, branding him a threat instead of recognizing his vision for peace and justice.

"The truth remains that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a prisoner of conscience. He is not in detention because he stole public funds, killed anyone, or committed any crime. He is in detention because he spoke against injustice, oppression, and marginalization," he added.

He further emphasized that if the Nigerian government can swallow its pride and engage Kanu in genuine dialogue, many of the country’s problems will find lasting solutions.

"Kanu is a man of ideas, peace, and wisdom. He has always advocated for peaceful coexistence, equity, fairness, and justice. Silencing him will never silence the truth he represents," Prince Emmanuel stated.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu called on the international community, human rights organizations, and lovers of peace across the world to intensify pressure on the Nigerian government to unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

CrimeAbia Govt Denies Alleged Engagement Of ESN To Fight Crime by Metrix147(op): 8:30am On Apr 06, 2025
The Abia State Government has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that Governor Alex Otti has approved the engagement of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to combat criminal activities and protect farmers in the state.

The government described the report, credited to a faceless blogger, as false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 6, 2025, by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, and made available to ABN TV, the government expressed concern over the resurgence of the fake report, noting that the same falsehood had earlier been circulated but was ignored.

“For the records, the government of Abia State under the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti could not have contemplated embracing the services of non-state actors to fight criminals and insecurity of any kind in any part of the state,” the statement read.

Ekeoma emphasized that Governor Otti's administration has continued to rely on conventional security agencies to tackle crime in the state, citing the establishment of a joint security taskforce code-named "Operation Crush" as a testament to the government's commitment to security.

He noted that "Operation Crush" has recorded significant successes in combating crime across the state, despite isolated cases of armed robbery and kidnapping which are being addressed.

The government warned those behind the fake news campaign to desist from actions capable of inciting fear and violence in the state, warning that such actions will attract severe consequences when perpetrators are identified.

Abia residents were urged to disregard the false report and remain confident in the government's efforts to ensure their safety.

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two Chinese expatriates and a police escort officer following an ambush by unknown gunmen in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, ABN TV reports

The tragic incident occurred on Friday night, April 4, 2025, when a group of Chinese nationals, accompanied by police escorts, were en route to their company’s mining site located at Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, Uturu.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the attackers, suspected to be heavily armed men, suddenly ambushed the convoy, opened fire on the occupants, and killed the site manager, Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and a police escort, Inspector Audu Saidu. The gunmen also made away with the rifle of the slain police officer.

Upon receiving a distress call, operatives of the Abia State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, swiftly mobilized and launched a rescue operation led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Uturu.

PoliticsAbia Health Workers Issue 15-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid Salary Review by Metrix147(op): 7:07pm On Apr 03, 2025
The Coalition of Abia Health Unions (CAHU) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Abia State Government, warning of an impending withdrawal of services if their demands for the implementation of a reviewed salary structure are not met.

In a letter addressed to Governor Alex Otti and obtained by ABN TV, the coalition, comprising the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), expressed frustration over the government’s failure to act on their financial review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The health workers had earlier issued a 21-day ultimatum, which expired on March 26, 2025, without any response from the state government. According to the letter, the coalition stated that despite submitting the financial breakdown of the reviewed salary structure for both state and local government health workers, the government has remained silent on its implementation.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, who addressed the landowners and residents at the site, reaffirmed the government's commitment to the airport project, assuring that it would be completed in partnership with the federal government. He dismissed speculations that the Nsulu people were opposed to the project, citing their enthusiasm as proof of their support.

"This administration is built on sincerity and transparency. Governor Alex Otti has consistently fulfilled his promises, and this project is no different," Pastor Ajagba stated. The clearing is expected to be completed within a week.

Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, Chairman of the Memorandum of Agreement Committee for the project, praised Governor Otti for addressing community concerns by reducing the airport's land allocation from 1,800 hectares to 1,000 hectares.

A fatal accident involving security operatives of "OPERATION CRUSH" occurred on Sunday evening at Ihie Ibeku along the Bende Road in Umuahia, Abia State, resulting in one confirmed death and several others sustaining injuries.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMMBGNr_PKk

ABN TV reports that the vehicle transporting the operatives, which included personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch. The challenging terrain and narrow nature of the road, which serves as a federal highway linking Bende to Ohafia and Arochukwu, may have contributed to the accident.

Inside the vehicle at the time of the accident were three policemen, five NSCDC officers, and one military personnel. Out of the ten operatives onboard, one officer from the NSCDC was confirmed dead, while eight others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia for urgent medical attention. Notably, one operative had disembarked before the accident occurred and was initially declared missing but was later found alive.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that a prominent Ibeku community leader, popularly known as Akaraka, alongside other passersby, played a crucial role in the initial rescue efforts. They used his vehicle and other available means to transport the first six injured operatives to the hospital before further reinforcements arrived.

Despite the severity of the incident, road safety officials had yet to arrive at the scene at the time of reporting. Witnesses have called on the state government and relevant authorities to act swiftly, emphasizing the urgent need for better road safety measures and emergency response protocols to prevent further casualties.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, was present at FMC Umuahia alongside ABN TV correspondents to monitor the situation.
Additionally, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, visited FMC with his team tonight. He prayed for and encouraged the personnel, offering words of support during this difficult time.

Abia State is poised for a new era of technological advancement, as the Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia Polytechnic), Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, has emphasized the critical role of technology in shaping the future.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVoFOAoD0s4
Speaking during the Abia Technology and Innovation Network Tour, Dr. Okoro described technology as the driving force behind innovation, economic growth, and problem-solving in modern society.

"Technology is the way— the only way to play," he stated, explaining that while science seeks to expand knowledge, technology applies that knowledge to solve real-world challenges. He highlighted the dynamic nature of technology, noting that as new discoveries are made, they create fresh challenges, which in turn fuel further technological advancements.

According to the Rector, technology is not just about innovation but also about job creation and economic development. He stressed that individuals with digital and technological skills have greater opportunities to apply their knowledge, contribute to economic growth, and generate income for themselves.

Dr. Okoro reaffirmed the polytechnic’s commitment to expanding its programs in line with global trends, stating that the institution is fully aligned with the vision of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to drive technological progress in the state.

"We are ready to support and improve any initiative that fosters technology and innovation in Abia. If we don’t have what is needed, we will seek the necessary support from the government. Our students and innovators deserve access to the best resources," he assured.

He further revealed plans to strengthen collaboration between the polytechnic and the Abia Technology and Innovation Network (ATIN), ensuring that individuals trained at different tech hubs across the state receive National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) certification. This partnership will enable trainees to earn both local and international certifications, boosting their competitiveness in the global tech space.

The visit, which was part of the ecosystem tour organized by ATIN, saw key government officials, including Dr. David Kalu, Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, engage with tech leaders and innovators. CrimeGas Explosion Hits Inner Galaxy Company In Abia, Leaving 2 Dead, 10 Hospitalized by Metrix147(op): 7:44am On Mar 27, 2025
A tragic gas explosion at Inner Galaxy Steel Company in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has claimed the lives of two people and left ten others critically injured, ABN TV reports.

The explosion, which occurred on the morning of March 25, was reportedly triggered by a faulty gas valve, causing widespread damage within the facility.

During an exclusive interview with ABN TV, the Mayor of Ukwa West, Hon. Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo, recounted the immediate steps taken by his office upon receiving news of the incident.

Hon. Nwankwo, who suspended all official engagements to visit the scene, described the devastation caused by the blast.

“The social media was flooded with various reports, some claiming that as many as 20 people had died. I immediately left my office and rushed to the factory. When I arrived, I was taken straight to the affected section, where I saw that the explosion had completely ripped apart the roof. Sadly, none of the victims were present, as they had already been taken to the hospital,” he said.

According to him, CCTV footage reviewed by the factory’s management and local authorities confirmed that the explosion occurred while a customer was handling a gas cylinder valve.

“My deputy, who has expertise in the gas business, helped analyze the footage. He confirmed that the incident was caused by a faulty valve, which led to the explosion,” the Mayor explained.

While confirming that two people had died, he debunked claims of a higher death toll.

“Twelve people were affected—two have died, and the remaining ten are receiving treatment at a hospital in Port Harcourt. As of this morning, I can confirm that they are responding well to treatment,” he added.

When ABN TV correspondent contacted the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chinaka, she confirmed the explosion and stated that investigations were ongoing.

"We are aware of the incident at Inner Galaxy in Ukwa West. The explosion resulted in fatalities and injuries. Our officers are on the ground, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and any possible lapses in safety protocols," DSP Chinaka said.

She assured the public that the police would work closely with other relevant agencies to ensure that those responsible for any negligence are held accountable.

PoliticsSouth East Group Condemns Retrial Of Sen. Kalu, Alleges Political Harassment by Metrix147(op): 11:49am On Mar 24, 2025
The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has strongly condemned the recent decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) permission to challenge a Federal High Court ruling that barred it from retrying former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, over an alleged N7.1 billion fraud.

In a press statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and made available to ABN TV, COSEYL described the development as a politically motivated attempt to harass and discredit Igbo leaders. The group expressed concerns over what it called a violation of constitutional principles and a threat to the integrity of Nigeria’s judicial system.

“The Federal High Court had previously discharged and acquitted Senator Kalu after a thorough legal process due to insufficient evidence. However, the sudden move by the EFCC to push for a retrial raises serious questions about the true intentions behind this legal battle,” COSEYL stated.

According to the youth group, the timing of the retrial suggests a political agenda rather than a genuine effort to ensure accountability. It alleged that certain forces were using the case as a tool to weaken the influence of the former governor, whom it described as a leader dedicated to the welfare of his people.

COSEYL urged the EFCC to maintain its credibility by avoiding political interference in its operations. The group warned that pursuing a retrial after an acquittal could erode public trust in the judiciary and set a dangerous precedent for politically motivated prosecutions.

“We call on the EFCC not to allow itself to be used for political permutations ahead of the 2027 elections. Justice should be based on facts and legal merit, not on political interests,” the statement concluded.

The retrial of Senator Kalu has sparked reactions across political and legal circles, with many closely monitoring how the case unfolds in the coming months.

CrimeAbia Chief Judge Frees Five Inmates, Grants Bail To 14 In Jail Delivery Exercise by Metrix147(op): 10:57am On Mar 24, 2025
In a bid to decongest correctional facilities and ensure speedy justice, the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, has granted freedom to five awaiting trial inmates and approved bail for fourteen others at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Umuahia, Abia State.

The landmark jail delivery exercise, conducted on Wednesday, is part of ongoing judicial reforms aimed at addressing prolonged detentions caused by case delays and the inability of prosecutors to present witnesses.

Justice Abai, while presiding over the exercise, lamented the plight of some inmates who had spent over six years in detention without trial. She noted that their prolonged incarceration was due to accusers' failure to provide evidence or witnesses in court. Some of the released inmates were also granted freedom on health grounds after a careful review of their cases.

To address the challenge of delayed trials, the Chief Judge issued a directive mandating chief magistrates in Ikwuano and Umuahia South Magisterial Districts to hold weekly court sittings at the correctional center. According to her, this initiative will help reduce the burden on correctional officers responsible for transporting inmates to court and ensure faster judicial processes.

She further urged magistrates to remain diligent in their duties and prevent unnecessary delays that could keep inmates in prolonged detention. While encouraging the freed individuals to reintegrate positively into society, she warned that future offenders may not benefit from such judicial leniency.

Reacting to the exercise, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Umuahia Branch, Uche Igwe, commended Justice Abai for her intervention, describing it as a crucial step toward upholding justice and preventing innocent individuals from suffering due to judicial inefficiencies.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has expressed his willingness to re-evaluate the agreement between his administration and pensioners in the state, despite his previous strong stance against their leadership, ABN TV reports.
Governor Otti To Revisit Agreement With Abia Pensioners
The governor made this known during a church service at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia Chapel, held to celebrate the 80th birthday of Senator Chris Adighije.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding pension payments, Governor Otti emphasized the need for honesty and accountability. He acknowledged that pensioners were not paid in 2018 but attributed part of the problem to their leadership.

"I want to thank you for being honest. You can't agree and later deny it. You can't also sign and later claim you did so under duress as a senior citizen. I maintain that our senior citizens, our pensioners, are honest people. The problem is their leadership, and this has to do with the association," he stated.

The governor expressed his displeasure over the leadership's denial of the agreement after payments had been made, suggesting that they might not have believed the government would fulfill its commitment.

"Even when they were going into an agreement with me, they probably didn’t believe there would be payment, and when I made the payment, they turned to say they didn’t sign, and that angered me," he said.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi and made available to ABN TV, noted that the declaration was necessitated by the prolonged political crisis in the state, which has spanned over 22 months and posed a significant threat to public order and national security.

PoliticsRivers Battle Is For Economic Freedom, Not Just About Fubara - Hilda Dokubo by Metrix147(op): 4:44pm On Mar 19, 2025
Veteran actress and political activist Hilda Dokubo has weighed in on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, declaring that the struggle is not about Governor Siminalayi Fubara but rather a battle for the state’s economic future.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGbkCS6Kt1w
Dokubo, in a passionate statement, accused those who had controlled the state for the past 24 years of exploiting its resources. "For 24 years, they kept milking us," she said, emphasizing that Rivers' wealth had been mismanaged. According to her, the state's funds were frequently diverted for unnecessary projects while essential services were neglected.

She praised the current administration for taking steps to address long-standing issues, particularly the prompt payment of civil servants. "This is the first time that civil servants have been paid in 13 months. Every Christmas for two years, civil servants got paid. Yes, they have received all their salaries," she stated.

Dokubo also highlighted infrastructural developments, arguing that past administrations deceived the people by claiming the state's difficult terrain made road construction impossible. "They told us our terrain was too bad. Now we know our terrain is not bad," she said, implying that Governor Fubara's administration has been able to initiate road projects where previous leaders failed.

She further commended the governor for his peaceful approach to governance and elections, stating that Rivers people have witnessed a process devoid of violence and bloodshed.

Addressing the budget impasse between the governor and the state assembly, Dokubo criticized those opposing Fubara’s administration, accusing them of creating obstacles to governance. "You made it impossible for him. He wrote, 'I am coming to you.' You locked him out. He wrote again to say, 'I will still come again.' And you replied to him with insubordination charges," she recounted.
