A former President-General of the National Association of Ohafia Students (NAOS) and prominent youth leader, Igwe Akuma Akwu, has been shot dead in his hometown, Oko Aku Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area, ABN TV reports. It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night, January 2, 2026, at about 7:30 pm, as Hon. Akwu and members of his compound were returning from a traditional retirement visit. Community sources said the group, which included his brothers, Uche Akwu and Acha Akwu, was allegedly accosted by youths from the Ndi Owom compound. During the confrontation, Hon. Akwu was reportedly shot in the chest, while other members of his group sustained gunshot injuries to their legs. The killing followed a series of reported attacks in the area. Sources disclosed that on December 30 and 31, 2025, Ndi Owom youths allegedly invaded the Ndi Uma Compound in Okon-Aku Ohafia, chased residents away, and destroyed property. The dispute is said to have been triggered by disagreements over access through a traditional compound hall (Obu) following an Igba Ekpe traditional retirement ceremony held on December 30, 2025. Community members further allege that the violence is linked to a lingering and unresolved Ezieogo tussle between the two compounds. On December 30, 2025, Hon. Akwu had raised an alarm on his official Facebook page over escalating attacks in his community. In the post, he alleged sustained violence against Ndi Uma Compound, claimed that he had earlier been beaten in January 2025, and accused thugs he linked to a disputed Ezieogo installation of destroying property and threatening lives. He also alleged that his Toyota Corolla was set ablaze on October 28, 2025, and appealed for urgent intervention, warning that his life was under threat. In the same post, he reported that a five-year-old cousin went missing during one of the attacks. The killing has plunged the Okon-Aku community into mourning, coming barely one week before Hon. Akwu’s scheduled wedding. Residents described him as a vibrant and committed youth leader who played an active role in community affairs and peace-building initiatives. Confirming the development, the Abia State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, told ABN TV that police operatives from the Ohafia Divisional Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer and supported by two tactical teams, have been deployed to the area to restore and maintain peace. She added that some suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation. The Abia State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in 2025, arresting a total of 809 crime suspects and recovering 88 firearms in 438 criminal cases handled between January 2025 and date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-9kU9u5pSw The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia on the operational strategies and achievements of the Command during the period under review. According to the Police Commissioner, the Command also recovered 435 rounds of ammunition from suspected criminals and successfully prosecuted over 200 suspects in various courts across the state, with several of them already serving jail terms for offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and cult-related crimes. CP Isa further revealed that the Command rescued 33 children who were either stolen or trafficked within and outside Abia State, noting that the suspects responsible for crimes against the children were prosecuted, with some already convicted and jailed. “We have sent a lot of people to jail. A clear message has been passed that it is no longer business as usual for criminals in Abia State,” the Commissioner stated. The Police boss attributed the noticeable reduction in crime rate across the state to strategic policing, sustained intelligence-led operations, and the support of the Abia State Government, particularly in logistics provision. He specifically acknowledged the backing of Governor Alex Otti, as well as the cooperation of community stakeholders. CP Isa also disclosed that officers of the Command encountered and neutralised several non-state actors at different times across the state, adding that their weapons were recovered during operations. He appealed to residents of Abia State to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information on suspicious activities and movements in their communities to further strengthen the fight against crime. During the briefing, firearms and other weapons recovered from suspects were displayed to journalists at the Police Headquarters as evidence of the Command’s achievements. The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, public safety, and sustained collaboration with residents to ensure a safer Abia State. President Donald Trump of the United States on Monday sued the BBC, seeking at least $10 billion over a documentary that edited his 2021 speech to supporters ahead of the US Capitol riot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RXO4uV-YLw The lawsuit seeks damages in an amount not less than $5,000,000,000 for each of two counts against the British broadcaster, for alleged defamation and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. ABN TV recalls that Trump had earlier on Monday said that the lawsuit was imminent, claiming the BBC had put words in my mouth, even positing that they used AI or something. The documentary at issue aired last year before the 2024 election, on the BBC’s Panorama flagship current affairs program. The video spliced together two separate sections of Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021 in a way that made it appear he explicitly urged supporters to attack the Capitol, where lawmakers were certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election win. “The formerly respected and now disgraced BBC defamed President Trump by intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively doctoring his speech in a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 Presidential Election. “The BBC has a long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump, all in service of its own leftist political agenda,” a spokesperson for Trump’s legal team said in a statement Source: https://abntv.com.ng/news/president-trump-slams-10bn-lawsuit-on-bbc-video/ Cc; lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun, OAM4J

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother to detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has disclosed details of a meeting held with his brother inside the Sokoto Medium Security Correctional Centre on Sunday, where Kanu is currently being held following his recent sentencing, ABN TV reports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYoe5Pe0R_Y In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, Emmanuel said he met with Kanu alongside his lawyer, Dr. Maxwell Opara. During the visit, Kanu reportedly described his conviction as legally defective, insisting no individual can be sentenced under a repealed law. According to the statement, Kanu expressed concern that his final written address, which focused on fair hearing, was not considered. He also alleged that the evidence relied upon by the court was neither part of the amended charge sheet nor tendered during trial. Prince Emmanuel quoted Kanu as saying the court’s reliance on previously struck-out charges, particularly those dismissed earlier by Justice Binta Nyako, raised serious judicial concerns. “Upon reviewing the judgment, he identified numerous errors that undermined the validity of his trial,” the statement read. Kanu reportedly urged Nigerian judges, magistrates, lawyers, and legal scholars to carefully scrutinize the ruling and defend the integrity of the legal system, noting discrepancies between previous court decisions and the latest judgment. He questioned why rulings from courts in Umuahia, Enugu, the Court of Appeal, United Nations working group, and even the Supreme Court, which stated that the law used against him was repealed, were ignored. The IPOB leader also thanked Nigerians and supporters globally, praising those he described as voices of conscience. “I am Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who will reject injustice, unfairness, and evil against anybody regardless of tribe, faith, or ethnicity. Injustice to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is injustice everywhere,” he stated. Prince Emmanuel concluded by relaying Kanu’s appreciation for the continued prayers and support from the public, quoting him as saying, “Elohim bless you all.” Source: https://abntv.com.ng/news/nnamdi-kanu-faults-conviction-from-sokoto-prison-says-judgment-has-no-legal-basis-brother-reveals/ Cc; lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun, OAM4J

Hon. Aguocha appealed to President Tinubu to make a historic leadership decision by releasing Kanu, describing it as an opportunity to secure national unity and lasting peace.
|
A federal lawmaker, Hon. Obinna Aguocha, has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to invoke Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to discontinue the prosecution of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In the letter dated November 17, 2025, and addressed to the President at the Aso Rock Villa, made available to ABN TV, Aguocha argued that the prolonged detention and trial of Kanu have escalated regional tension, deepened mistrust, and undermined public confidence in government institutions. According to him, continuing the legal process has become counterproductive and now threatens national peace and unity. He described the current situation in the South-East, marked by insecurity, economic decline, and persistent civil unrest, as a direct consequence of Kanu’s prolonged detention. Aguocha noted that the Constitution empowers the Attorney-General of the Federation to discontinue criminal proceedings through the instrument of nolle prosequi when the pursuit of prosecution no longer serves the national interest. He also highlighted alleged constitutional defects in Kanu’s trial, including questions surrounding his extraordinary rendition from Kenya and prosecution under repealed legal provisions, insisting that proceeding further would amount to validating unconstitutional actions. The lawmaker further stated that releasing Kanu would foster national reconciliation, restore trust among citizens, particularly the Igbo, and strengthen Nigeria’s global democratic ranking. “Leadership is most profoundly demonstrated when a President rises above immediate politics to embrace a vision of national healing. The release of Nnamdi Kanu at this moment will unlock transformative goodwill, ease regional tensions, and restore faith in the justice system,” the letter read in part. Aguocha described the proposed action as a strategic step toward national unity, peace, and political stability. A former councillor in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr. Uduma Uguru, popularly known as Makiba, has alleged that he was lured, beaten, and detained by youths of Amaekpu Ohafia over claims that he disrespected a serving councillor in the area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4npT3_lPjY Makiba, who spoke during an exclusive episode of the “Talk Make I Talk Podcast”, recounted how the ugly incident began after a disagreement at a road construction site involving the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA). According to him, the misunderstanding started when he referred to the Deputy Leader of the Ohafia Legislative Council, Hon. Daniel Eke Urum, as “that guy” during a heated exchange. “I called him ‘that guy’ because I didn’t know his name,” he said. “Before I knew it, I was surrounded, slapped, and dragged away. They flogged me mercilessly and detained me in a secret cell. I was only released after I transferred ₦100,000.” A trending video of the incident has since gone viral across social media platforms, showing Makiba being flogged in public by a group of youths in Amaekpu Ohafia. The footage also captured moments when the attackers stepped on his laps and knees, while others shouted orders demanding that he pay a fine before being freed. Reports indicate that the former councillor was accused of failing to pay for a tipper truck allegedly hired for a direct labour road project in the area, a claim he strongly denies. The video has drawn massive condemnation from across Abia State and beyond, with residents describing the assault as barbaric, uncivilized, and a clear case of jungle justice. Many have called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved. Makiba disclosed that he had earlier responded to a petition at the Ohafia Area Command before the incident and has since reported the assault to the police for investigation. He appealed to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and the Commissioner of Police to ensure justice is served. There was high drama at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, November 7, 2025, as the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, continued, with proceedings taking an unexpected turn following a bold motion filed by the defendant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zux2I4xBxo Reports from the courtroom indicate that Mazi Kanu presented a motion challenging the legal basis of his trial, asking the court to identify the law under which he is being prosecuted clearly. The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, initially appeared reluctant to entertain the motion but eventually accepted it after persistent insistence from Kanu. According to eyewitness accounts, Kanu stood his ground, urging the court to cite the specific law backing the terrorism charges against him. However, the court reportedly declined to provide an answer. “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu asked the court to identify the law under which he is being tried, but the court refused as usual,” a source at the court said. After continued pressure from the IPOB leader, the judge directed Kanu to read the charges aloud. Upon doing so, it reportedly became apparent that the charges were anchored on a non-existent law, leading to visible tension in the courtroom. Observers said Justice Omotosho appeared visibly upset by the development and abruptly adjourned the case, fixing November 20, 2025, for judgment. Friday’s session comes after a series of procedural delays, including earlier controversies surrounding the DSS’s refusal to allow Kanu to file his court processes, a stance the security agency later reversed following public pressure. The General Overseer of Light of the World International Church, Prophet Joshua Arogun, has issued a spiritual warning that Governor Alex Otti may become a one-term governor unless he changes his political party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a Wednesday ministerial service in Lagos, Prophet Arogun revealed that the rising political strength of Mascot Uzor Kalu, who recently declared his governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC), could pose a serious threat to Governor Otti's re-election bid. “The incumbent Governor is popular, but his current party will disappoint him,” the cleric declared. “If he must win, he must change his party and avoid running against Mascot Kalu. Otherwise, he will face the biggest embarrassment of his political career.” Arogun emphasized that his prophecy is not driven by emotions or bias, but by divine revelation. He warned that there is a “silent majority” preparing to vote overwhelmingly for Mascot Uzor Kalu in what could become a major upset in the Abia political space. “Power belongs to God. I see Mascot Uzor Kalu attracting a large support base. There is massive preparation going on underground. The people are planning to take back their state,” he said. Backing the same spiritual sentiment, renowned prophet and head of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, also declared that the 2027 election would be “very tough” for Governor Alex Otti if Mascot Uzor Kalu decides to run. “If Mascot Uzor Kalu comes out, it’s going to be tough for Governor Otti. It’s all about strategy, not incumbency. If Mascot knows his way, he can defeat him,” Ayodele said during a separate prophetic session. Both clerics emphasized that while Governor Otti retains some popularity, the strength of Mascot Uzor Kalu's name and growing grassroots momentum could shift the political balance in 2027. On a broader note, Prophet Arogun also addressed the ongoing global conversation surrounding Christian persecution in Nigeria, following the U.S. designation of the country as a nation of concern.
