PoliticsOtti Got In 4 Months What I Got In 8 Years As Governor - Senator Kalu by Metrix147(op): 11:40pm On Jan 08
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has asserted that Governor Alex Otti received more financial allocations within four months than he did throughout his eight-year tenure as governor.

Kalu made the remarks on Thursday while addressing journalists during a press conference at his country home in Igbere.

According to the former Senate Chief Whip, the volume of funds currently available to the Abia State Government surpasses what was accessible during his time in office, insisting that this context must be considered when assessing governance performance.

“The money Governor Alex Otti received in four months is what I received in eight years,” Kalu said.

The former governor further claimed that much of what he has observed under the current administration involves the repainting and rehabilitation of infrastructure executed during his own tenure.

“What I see mostly is the repainting and rebuilding of roads constructed during my administration. I have not seen major new roads of the scale we undertook,” he stated.

Kalu maintained that his record in office remains verifiable, stressing that his administration implemented policies that provided free education and healthcare for Abia residents during his time as governor.

Speaking on his performance at the National Assembly, the senator said his legislative achievements were unmatched, particularly in the area of rural development. He cited the construction of new farmland and rural access roads across communities in Abia North as evidence of his impact.

“I am in the Senate, and the roads I am doing are brand new farmland roads. In two years, I have done what many people thought was impossible,” Kalu added.

CrimeFormer Ohafia Students’ PG, Hon. Igwe Akumau, Shot Dead In Abia Community by Metrix147(op): 8:58pm On Jan 03
A former President-General of the National Association of Ohafia Students (NAOS) and prominent youth leader, Igwe Akuma Akwu, has been shot dead in his hometown, Oko Aku Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area, ABN TV reports.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night, January 2, 2026, at about 7:30 pm, as Hon. Akwu and members of his compound were returning from a traditional retirement visit. Community sources said the group, which included his brothers, Uche Akwu and Acha Akwu, was allegedly accosted by youths from the Ndi Owom compound. During the confrontation, Hon. Akwu was reportedly shot in the chest, while other members of his group sustained gunshot injuries to their legs.

The killing followed a series of reported attacks in the area. Sources disclosed that on December 30 and 31, 2025, Ndi Owom youths allegedly invaded the Ndi Uma Compound in Okon-Aku Ohafia, chased residents away, and destroyed property. The dispute is said to have been triggered by disagreements over access through a traditional compound hall (Obu) following an Igba Ekpe traditional retirement ceremony held on December 30, 2025. Community members further allege that the violence is linked to a lingering and unresolved Ezieogo tussle between the two compounds.

On December 30, 2025, Hon. Akwu had raised an alarm on his official Facebook page over escalating attacks in his community. In the post, he alleged sustained violence against Ndi Uma Compound, claimed that he had earlier been beaten in January 2025, and accused thugs he linked to a disputed Ezieogo installation of destroying property and threatening lives. He also alleged that his Toyota Corolla was set ablaze on October 28, 2025, and appealed for urgent intervention, warning that his life was under threat. In the same post, he reported that a five-year-old cousin went missing during one of the attacks.

The killing has plunged the Okon-Aku community into mourning, coming barely one week before Hon. Akwu’s scheduled wedding. Residents described him as a vibrant and committed youth leader who played an active role in community affairs and peace-building initiatives.

Confirming the development, the Abia State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, told ABN TV that police operatives from the Ohafia Divisional Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer and supported by two tactical teams, have been deployed to the area to restore and maintain peace. She added that some suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation.

PoliticsLabour Party Brought Me To Power, I’m Not Defecting — Otti Declares (Video) by Metrix147(op): 4:40am On Dec 31, 2025
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that he will not defect from the Labour Party, despite the decision of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to leave the party.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85OYrW0pPek

Governor Otti made this known on Tuesday during his monthly media chat held in Umuahia, where he addressed growing speculations about his political future following reports of Obi’s planned exit from the Labour Party.

The Governor disclosed that Peter Obi had personally informed him of his intention to leave the party, adding that he gave him his blessings. However, Otti emphasized that his own political path remains firmly rooted in the Labour Party for now.

According to the Governor, his membership of the Labour Party predates that of Peter Obi, stressing that he did not join the party because of the former Anambra State governor.

“If you remember, I joined the Labour Party before Peter Obi, so I did not join the party with him,” Otti said.

He further explained that while Obi’s decision is respected, he has chosen to remain in the party in order to contribute to efforts aimed at rebuilding and repositioning it.

“He has communicated to me that he is leaving the Labour Party. I gave him my blessings. But I will remain in the Labour Party, and I told him that I would continue the struggle to rescue the Labour Party,” the Governor stated.

Otti noted that the Labour Party provided the platform that brought him to power, making it necessary for him to stay and help strengthen the party’s internal structures and direction.

He added that discussions about alternative political options would only arise after genuine efforts have been made to reposition the party.

“That is the party that brought me to power. If we fight and get to the end, and we are able to reposition the Labour Party, then we can discuss other options. Therefore, for now, I am not defecting to any party,” Otti concluded.

PoliticsI’m Inviting Governor Alex Otti To Join APC — Deputy Speaker Kalu (Video) by Metrix147(op): 4:06am On Dec 31, 2025
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to defect to the All Progressives Congress, assuring him of full backing from APC members in the state.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCyvgDt_GQY

Kalu made the call on Monday while addressing party members and supporters during a town hall meeting and food distribution exercise held at his country home in Bende, Abia State.

According to the Deputy Speaker, Governor Otti’s continued support for President Bola Tinubu would be more meaningful if he formally aligns with the ruling party.

“I want to use this opportunity again to invite Governor Alex Otti to join our party. If he comes to our party, we will support him. But if they are in another party and they are supporting the President, fa-fa-fa—fowl,” Kalu said.

He stressed that the President would not abandon the APC to work with non-members, insisting that genuine support for the Tinubu-led administration must come from within the party.

The Deputy Speaker also clarified that he has not declared interest in the 2027 Abia governorship election, stating that he is still consulting widely and awaiting direction from the party’s national leadership.

Kalu further alleged that he has been subjected to daily attacks by hired social media agents in the state, who he said deliberately misinterpret his empowerment programmes as a premature governorship ambition.

PoliticsNo Polling Units On Social Media — Deputy Speaker Fires Back At Critics (Video) by Metrix147(op): 9:18pm On Dec 30, 2025
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has dismissed social media attacks against him, insisting that elections are decided at polling units, not online platforms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCyvgDt_GQY

Kalu made the remark while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress and his supporters during the Renewed Hope town hall meeting held in Bende LGA, Abia State.

Responding to what he described as persistent insults and coordinated attacks by hired social media agents, the Deputy Speaker warned critics against mistaking online noise for political strength.

“You can insult me all you want on social media, but on election day, I will remind you that there are no polling units on social media,” Kalu declared.

He explained that his ongoing empowerment programmes and grassroots engagements across Abia State are being deliberately misinterpreted by opponents as signs of a 2027 governorship ambition, stressing that he has not declared for the race.

Kalu maintained that genuine political victory is achieved through direct engagement with the people, adding that the expanding APC grassroots structures across the state are focused on mobilising voters and securing future electoral success, particularly for President Bola Tinubu.

The Deputy Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots and urged supporters to remain focused, disciplined, and connected to the electorate rather than being distracted by online provocations.

PoliticsAbians In Oyo Laud Gov Alex Otti For Free Christmas Transport Initiative (VIDEO) by Metrix147(op): 8:03pm On Dec 24, 2025
Abians residing in Oyo State have expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, for approving free transportation that enabled many families to return home for the 2025 Christmas celebrations.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VuTo2n-MIg
Speaking on behalf of Abians in Ibadan, the President of the Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU), Ibadan Branch, Mazi Paul Kalu, said the governor’s intervention brought renewed hope and joy to families who had earlier resigned themselves to missing the festive season due to rising transportation costs and economic hardship.

According to Mazi Kalu, the gesture implemented on December 23, 2025, saw the provision of four large buses to convey Abians free of charge from Ibadan to Aba and Umuahia in Abia State. He described the initiative as timely, compassionate, and reflective of people-focused leadership.

“On behalf of all Abians in Ibadan, led by Mazi Jude Ekwerendu and his executive members, I want to sincerely thank our amiable Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti. We honestly do not know how to thank him. Many families had lost hope of coming home for Christmas this year, but he made it possible,” Mazi Kalu stated.

He noted that beyond easing transportation challenges, the gesture restored the spirit of togetherness and family bonding that defines the Christmas season, especially for those living far from home.

Mazi Kalu further said that Abians in the diaspora have continued to hear positive reports about the ongoing transformation in Abia State under Governor Otti’s administration, adding that the free transport initiative further reinforced their confidence in the government.

“We have been hearing a lot about the transformation going on in our dear state. After many years of crying, Abians are smiling again. We are solidly behind the governor,” he added.

Abians in Oyo prayed for God’s blessings upon the governor and reaffirmed their support for his administration, describing the Christmas transport initiative as a clear demonstration of responsive governance and genuine concern for the welfare of Abians, both at home and in the diaspora.

CrimeAbia Police Bust Child-trafficking Rings, Rescue Over 20 Stolen Children (video) by Metrix147(op): 10:45am On Dec 22, 2025
The Abia State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking with the arrest of multiple suspects and the rescue of several stolen children and infants across Abia, Lagos, Anambra, Ebonyi and neighbouring states.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-9kU9u5pSw
In one case, operatives arrested Mrs. Chinasa Ukachukwu and Adaoma Sunday after Chinasa reportedly left home with four children and returned days later with only one. Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked and rescued the three missing children from different locations and reunited them with their families.

In another coordinated operation, police dismantled a large trafficking ring operating within Aba and Obingwa areas, arresting ten suspects and rescuing eight infants and ten children who were allegedly stolen under various guises, including fake marriages and caregiving arrangements. All rescued children have since been reunited with their families, while suspects were charged to court.

The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on child trafficking and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant.

The Abia State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in 2025, arresting a total of 809 crime suspects and recovering 88 firearms in 438 criminal cases handled between January 2025 and date.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-9kU9u5pSw
The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia on the operational strategies and achievements of the Command during the period under review.

According to the Police Commissioner, the Command also recovered 435 rounds of ammunition from suspected criminals and successfully prosecuted over 200 suspects in various courts across the state, with several of them already serving jail terms for offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and cult-related crimes.

CP Isa further revealed that the Command rescued 33 children who were either stolen or trafficked within and outside Abia State, noting that the suspects responsible for crimes against the children were prosecuted, with some already convicted and jailed.

“We have sent a lot of people to jail. A clear message has been passed that it is no longer business as usual for criminals in Abia State,” the Commissioner stated.

The Police boss attributed the noticeable reduction in crime rate across the state to strategic policing, sustained intelligence-led operations, and the support of the Abia State Government, particularly in logistics provision. He specifically acknowledged the backing of Governor Alex Otti, as well as the cooperation of community stakeholders.

CP Isa also disclosed that officers of the Command encountered and neutralised several non-state actors at different times across the state, adding that their weapons were recovered during operations.

He appealed to residents of Abia State to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information on suspicious activities and movements in their communities to further strengthen the fight against crime.

During the briefing, firearms and other weapons recovered from suspects were displayed to journalists at the Police Headquarters as evidence of the Command’s achievements.

The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, public safety, and sustained collaboration with residents to ensure a safer Abia State.

PoliticsWhy I Visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu – Governor Otti Speaks (Video) by Metrix147(op): 8:12am On Dec 20, 2025
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has explained the reasons behind his recent visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating that the move was driven by a commitment to peace, dialogue, and responsibility as a leader.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V79VYN23DTI

Speaking on Friday at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti revealed that discussions surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s situation began over two years ago at the highest levels.

“Exactly 24 months ago, I opened up discussions at the highest level on Nnamdi Kanu,” the Governor disclosed.

He explained that visiting Kanu was the right thing to do, noting that the detained IPOB leader is an indigene of Abia State, specifically Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Governor Otti emphasized that ignoring a problem does not solve it, maintaining that dialogue remains a vital tool in conflict resolution.

“There are always ways to solve a problem. I don’t believe the way to solve a problem is to ignore it,” he said.

While reaffirming respect for the judiciary, the Governor noted that beyond the legal process, there exists an administrative window for intervention, dialogue, and peace-building.

He clarified that he does not support the disintegration of Nigeria and has consistently condemned violent approaches to resolving grievances, including Operation Python Dance, which he had publicly criticized in the past.

“It would be insensitive of me to sit here and say that one of our own should die when there is an opportunity to discuss, negotiate, and sue for peace,” Governor Otti stated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGueQ1zClFg
Governor Otti made this clear on Friday, December 19, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia, while responding to a viral video alleging that his recent political engagements signaled a plan to contest for higher offices.

The Governor categorically stated that he has no ambition to run for President, Vice President, or Senator, stressing that his mission in public office is limited to his current mandate.

“By the time I’m done with governorship, I will retire. I don’t have presidential ambition, vice-presidential ambition, or senatorial ambition,” Otti declared.

He explained that leadership comes with a responsibility to know when to exit, adding that politics should not be a lifelong pursuit.

“When you have done what you were asked to do, you clear, give way to younger people. We are not cut out for recycling offices,” he said.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Abia State Chapter, on Tuesday stormed the Abia State House of Assembly Complex, Umuahia, to protest the alleged intimidation of members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in the state legislature.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swv2ygr1pOA
Led by the Abia State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya, the labour union condemned what it described as the unlawful actions of some lawmakers who allegedly broke the chains and padlocks used by PASAN to secure the Assembly complex during the ongoing strike by parliamentary staff.

Speaking at the Assembly premises, Comrade Ogbonnaya warned that organised labour in Abia State would not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment of legislative workers, insisting that workers’ rights must be respected at all times.

The NLC demanded that the Abia State House of Assembly should immediately compensate for the chains and padlocks allegedly destroyed by the lawmakers during the incident, which reportedly occurred last week.

Comrade Ogbonnaya further disclosed that the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress had already forwarded details of the damaged property to relevant authorities, adding that labour would continue to closely monitor developments until the matter is properly addressed.

Foreign AffairsPresident Trump Slams $10bn Lawsuit On BBC (video) by Metrix147(op): 8:09am On Dec 16, 2025
President Donald Trump of the United States on Monday sued the BBC, seeking at least $10 billion over a documentary that edited his 2021 speech to supporters ahead of the US Capitol riot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RXO4uV-YLw
The lawsuit seeks damages in an amount not less than $5,000,000,000 for each of two counts against the British broadcaster, for alleged defamation and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

ABN TV recalls that Trump had earlier on Monday said that the lawsuit was imminent, claiming the BBC had put words in my mouth, even positing that they used AI or something.

The documentary at issue aired last year before the 2024 election, on the BBC’s Panorama flagship current affairs program.

The video spliced together two separate sections of Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021 in a way that made it appear he explicitly urged supporters to attack the Capitol, where lawmakers were certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.

“The formerly respected and now disgraced BBC defamed President Trump by intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively doctoring his speech in a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 Presidential Election.

“The BBC has a long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump, all in service of its own leftist political agenda,” a spokesperson for Trump’s legal team said in a statement

Newly recruited teachers in Abia State have begun receiving their outstanding three-month salary arrears, fulfilling the promise made by Governor Alex Otti earlier this week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbxdIlzTKbU
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ugochi, confirmed to ABN TV on Thursday that she had received her full three months’ salary. She described the development as a huge relief and praised the Governor for his swift intervention.

According to her: “I have received my three months’ salary arrears today. God will bless Governor Alex Otti for his swift action to make our salary drop.”

This follows the Governor’s assurance during the November edition of Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, where he pledged that all outstanding payments to newly employed teachers would be cleared before Sunday night.

Government authorities are also advising teachers to ensure they submit complete and accurate commercial bank account details to avoid payment delays and ensure seamless processing.

The commencement of payment has sparked excitement across the education sector, with many teachers expressing renewed confidence in the administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s workforce and enhancing learning standards in Abia schools.

PoliticsTinubu Replaces Obinna Oriaku With Victor Ikeji As Abia FCC Commissioner (video) by Metrix147(op): 7:18pm On Dec 04, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has withdrawn the nomination of Obinna Oriaku and forwarded a fresh request to the Senate seeking confirmation of Victor Ikeji as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Abia State, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiXBIW7_n2U
The President’s letter was read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

According to Tinubu, the new nomination is in accordance with Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint members of the Commission subject to Senate confirmation.

Tinubu explained that Ikeji’s appointment is intended to replace Oriaku, who was earlier nominated in a letter dated October 9.

“I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the appointment of Victor Ikeji as commissioner of the Federal Character Commission,” the President stated.

Following the reading of the letter, Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, directing the panel to report back within one week.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Obinna Oriaku confirmed his replacement in an exclusive chat with ABN TV on Thursday evening.

“That is what I am seeing. Someone wrote a petition against me from Abia State. Well, we are on it,” Oriaku said, suggesting that the petition may have influenced the change.

The Senate is expected to conclude its screening process and make a final decision in the coming days.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu’s Pain Is Our Pain, He Has Suffered Enough — Abia Lawmaker Tells FG by Metrix147(op): 1:27am On Dec 04, 2025
The Member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinasa Anthony, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a political solution and grant freedom to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl8YTNp2wZI

Hon. Abiola appealed during an exclusive interview on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, where he insisted that Kanu’s continued incarceration has caused emotional pain to his family and constituents.

According to the lawmaker, his position is not only based on representation but also on personal and communal ties to the detained agitator.

“I speak for Abians in their entirety. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is in my constituency. He is my own direct brother. If I have no other right, I should speak on his behalf,” he said.

Hon. Abiola, a lawyer, argued that Kanu’s agitation is driven by a vision rather than criminal intent.

“To my best knowledge, he is pursuing a vision. Biafra is a dream, and I don’t think he should be punished for keeping a vision alive. He is a Nigerian and deserves his freedom,” he stated.

He urged President Tinubu, whom he described as “a man of conscience,” to use his office to bring closure to the long-running case.

“My prayer and plea to the President is to use political strength to grant him freedom. He deserves to be with his family, with his wife. This man has been in one place for several years,” he added.

Responding to questions on whether he has been in contact with Kanu’s family since the recent conviction and transfer to Sokoto prison, Hon. Abiola confirmed that he has maintained regular communication.

“I have reached out to the family. They are mine as well. Anything that affects him affects me. I may not have been able to go to Sokoto prison yet, but I will try to,” he said.

The lawmaker also noted that the people of Umuahia and the wider South-East have already expressed their stance through peaceful democratic means.

“Protest is not only when people go to the streets. We have issued statements, spoken through the media, and lent our voices. Our message is clear: Mr. President should please grant Nnamdi Kanu freedom,” he stated.

Speaking on political criticisms and public commentary, Hon. Abiola maintained that he remains focused on the essentials.

“There will always be things people talk about, but our eyes are on the ball. We pay attention only to progressive criticism and ignore distractions,” he said.

Hon. Abiola’s call adds to the growing voices urging the Federal Government to pursue a political solution to Kanu’s incarceration, which has remained a major issue in the South-East.

PoliticsDelayed Benefits Are Killing Retirees — Abia Pensioners Raise Alarm by Metrix147(op): 9:46pm On Nov 26, 2025
Retirees under the Abia Pensioners’ Forum, a pressure group within the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), have expressed deep concern over the continued delay in the payment of long-awaited gratuities and pension arrears in Abia State, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBt7hfgz-1g

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, the group alleged that many retired workers in the state have died, become homeless, or fallen into serious health challenges due to non-payment of their statutory benefits.

Coordinator of the group, Okey Kanu, who spoke on behalf of members, said the affected retirees would never forfeit their entitlements, stressing that gratuities and pension arrears are constitutional rights, not favours.

Kanu described the delay as “inordinate,” noting that the present administration had only cleared 10 months out of the accumulated arrears between June 2023 and March 2024, while inherited arrears from previous administrations remained unaddressed.

The group also faulted claims that pensioners voluntarily accepted a controversial Memorandum of Agreement with NUP leadership in the state to forfeit a portion of their entitlements.

With each passing month, more pensioners fall into worsening health, depression, and, in many cases, death without receiving what they worked for over 35 years of service. This is a grave injustice,” Kanu said.

The pensioners acknowledged what they described as Governor Alex Otti’s visible strides in infrastructure development but insisted that retirees should be paid fully so they can live long enough to enjoy the benefits.

They also reminded the governor that pensioners voted massively for him in the 2023 election based on assurances that unpaid gratuities and pensions would be cleared once he assumed office.

When contacted by ABN TV, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, confirmed that the government is fully aware of the concerns raised and is already working toward a structured solution.

Ekeoma explained that a comprehensive committee was earlier constituted by Governor Alex Otti to verify records and determine the accurate backlog owed to pensioners.

The committee just submitted its report a little over a week ago. Because thousands of retirees are affected and arrears date as far back as 2001, the verification needed to be thorough,” he said.

According to him, the total verified outstanding arrears stand at over ₦60 billion, making it necessary for the government to develop a phased payment plan.

“What the government is doing now is determining how payment will be structured—whether some will receive 100% immediately or whether others will receive half until all arrears are cleared. But payment will happen,” he added.

Ekeoma said the verification exercise was necessary to prevent errors, inflated claims, or fraudulent entries.

“It is better if everything is verified once and properly calculated so that nobody is overpaid or omitted when payment begins. The government is on it,” he assured.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Faults Conviction From Prison, Says Judgment Has No Legal Basis” by Metrix147(op): 4:26pm On Nov 23, 2025
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother to detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has disclosed details of a meeting held with his brother inside the Sokoto Medium Security Correctional Centre on Sunday, where Kanu is currently being held following his recent sentencing, ABN TV reports.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYoe5Pe0R_Y
In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, Emmanuel said he met with Kanu alongside his lawyer, Dr. Maxwell Opara. During the visit, Kanu reportedly described his conviction as legally defective, insisting no individual can be sentenced under a repealed law.

According to the statement, Kanu expressed concern that his final written address, which focused on fair hearing, was not considered. He also alleged that the evidence relied upon by the court was neither part of the amended charge sheet nor tendered during trial.

Prince Emmanuel quoted Kanu as saying the court’s reliance on previously struck-out charges, particularly those dismissed earlier by Justice Binta Nyako, raised serious judicial concerns.

“Upon reviewing the judgment, he identified numerous errors that undermined the validity of his trial,” the statement read.

Kanu reportedly urged Nigerian judges, magistrates, lawyers, and legal scholars to carefully scrutinize the ruling and defend the integrity of the legal system, noting discrepancies between previous court decisions and the latest judgment.

He questioned why rulings from courts in Umuahia, Enugu, the Court of Appeal, United Nations working group, and even the Supreme Court, which stated that the law used against him was repealed, were ignored.

The IPOB leader also thanked Nigerians and supporters globally, praising those he described as voices of conscience.

“I am Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who will reject injustice, unfairness, and evil against anybody regardless of tribe, faith, or ethnicity. Injustice to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is injustice everywhere,” he stated.

Prince Emmanuel concluded by relaying Kanu’s appreciation for the continued prayers and support from the public, quoting him as saying, “Elohim bless you all.”

PoliticsGrant Nnamdi Kanu Pardon, Nigeria Needs Healing” - Reps Member Begs Tinubu by Metrix147(op): 7:04pm On Nov 20, 2025
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant a presidential pardon to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing the move as necessary for national peace and unity.

In an open letter addressed to the President, Ikwechegh said Nigeria is currently facing rising insecurity, political tension, economic hardship, and declining international confidence, adding that only decisive leadership can restore calm.

According to him, killings, ethnic mistrust, and worsening divisions across the country have created a fragile national atmosphere that requires urgent reconciliation.

“This is a time to unite our country; this is a time to heal our nation,” he wrote.

The lawmaker noted that growing conversations globally about Nigeria’s instability are alarming, and warned that continued detention of Kanu is contributing significantly to unrest, particularly in the South-East.

Ikwechegh urged the President to consider clemency as a strategic step toward de-escalation.

“Clemency at this moment will not only quell security tension in the country, especially in the South-East, but will also draw his supporters closer to the leadership of the President,” he stated.

He further reminded the President of the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers, urging him to preserve unity and prevent the country from drifting into deeper crisis.

Describing President Tinubu as the only person capable of restoring stability, Ikwechegh emphasized that forgiveness and reconciliation would send a powerful message of leadership and national healing.

“Let us remember the labour of our heroes past. Let us keep this country united and commit ourselves to healing our land,” he added.

PoliticsRe: Lawmaker Obi Aguocha Writes Tinubu, Says Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Is Hurting Nigeria by Metrix147(op): 6:12pm On Nov 17, 2025
Hon. Aguocha appealed to President Tinubu to make a historic leadership decision by releasing Kanu, describing it as an opportunity to secure national unity and lasting peace.

PoliticsLawmaker Obi Aguocha Writes Tinubu, Says Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Is Hurting Nigeria by Metrix147(op): 6:09pm On Nov 17, 2025
A federal lawmaker, Hon. Obinna Aguocha, has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to invoke Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to discontinue the prosecution of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In the letter dated November 17, 2025, and addressed to the President at the Aso Rock Villa, made available to ABN TV, Aguocha argued that the prolonged detention and trial of Kanu have escalated regional tension, deepened mistrust, and undermined public confidence in government institutions.

According to him, continuing the legal process has become counterproductive and now threatens national peace and unity. He described the current situation in the South-East, marked by insecurity, economic decline, and persistent civil unrest, as a direct consequence of Kanu’s prolonged detention.

Aguocha noted that the Constitution empowers the Attorney-General of the Federation to discontinue criminal proceedings through the instrument of nolle prosequi when the pursuit of prosecution no longer serves the national interest.

He also highlighted alleged constitutional defects in Kanu’s trial, including questions surrounding his extraordinary rendition from Kenya and prosecution under repealed legal provisions, insisting that proceeding further would amount to validating unconstitutional actions.

The lawmaker further stated that releasing Kanu would foster national reconciliation, restore trust among citizens, particularly the Igbo, and strengthen Nigeria’s global democratic ranking.

“Leadership is most profoundly demonstrated when a President rises above immediate politics to embrace a vision of national healing. The release of Nnamdi Kanu at this moment will unlock transformative goodwill, ease regional tensions, and restore faith in the justice system,” the letter read in part.

Aguocha described the proposed action as a strategic step toward national unity, peace, and political stability.

CrimeEx-abia Councillor Makiba Flogged, Detained By Community Youths (video) by Metrix147(op): 11:32am On Nov 12, 2025
A former councillor in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr. Uduma Uguru, popularly known as Makiba, has alleged that he was lured, beaten, and detained by youths of Amaekpu Ohafia over claims that he disrespected a serving councillor in the area.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4npT3_lPjY
Makiba, who spoke during an exclusive episode of the “Talk Make I Talk Podcast”, recounted how the ugly incident began after a disagreement at a road construction site involving the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA). According to him, the misunderstanding started when he referred to the Deputy Leader of the Ohafia Legislative Council, Hon. Daniel Eke Urum, as “that guy” during a heated exchange.

“I called him ‘that guy’ because I didn’t know his name,” he said. “Before I knew it, I was surrounded, slapped, and dragged away. They flogged me mercilessly and detained me in a secret cell. I was only released after I transferred ₦100,000.”

A trending video of the incident has since gone viral across social media platforms, showing Makiba being flogged in public by a group of youths in Amaekpu Ohafia. The footage also captured moments when the attackers stepped on his laps and knees, while others shouted orders demanding that he pay a fine before being freed.

Reports indicate that the former councillor was accused of failing to pay for a tipper truck allegedly hired for a direct labour road project in the area, a claim he strongly denies.

The video has drawn massive condemnation from across Abia State and beyond, with residents describing the assault as barbaric, uncivilized, and a clear case of jungle justice. Many have called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved.

Makiba disclosed that he had earlier responded to a petition at the Ohafia Area Command before the incident and has since reported the assault to the police for investigation. He appealed to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and the Commissioner of Police to ensure justice is served.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Challenges Legal Basis Of His Trial, Judge Fixes Judgment For Nov 20 by Metrix147(op):
There was high drama at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, November 7, 2025, as the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, continued, with proceedings taking an unexpected turn following a bold motion filed by the defendant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zux2I4xBxo
Reports from the courtroom indicate that Mazi Kanu presented a motion challenging the legal basis of his trial, asking the court to identify the law under which he is being prosecuted clearly. The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, initially appeared reluctant to entertain the motion but eventually accepted it after persistent insistence from Kanu.

According to eyewitness accounts, Kanu stood his ground, urging the court to cite the specific law backing the terrorism charges against him. However, the court reportedly declined to provide an answer.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu asked the court to identify the law under which he is being tried, but the court refused as usual,” a source at the court said.

After continued pressure from the IPOB leader, the judge directed Kanu to read the charges aloud. Upon doing so, it reportedly became apparent that the charges were anchored on a non-existent law, leading to visible tension in the courtroom.

Observers said Justice Omotosho appeared visibly upset by the development and abruptly adjourned the case, fixing November 20, 2025, for judgment.

Friday’s session comes after a series of procedural delays, including earlier controversies surrounding the DSS’s refusal to allow Kanu to file his court processes, a stance the security agency later reversed following public pressure.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu’s Family Accuses DSS Of Blocking Fair Hearing Ahead Of Court Session by Metrix147(op): 7:20am On Nov 07, 2025
The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has raised alarm over what it described as a deliberate attempt by the Department of State Services (DSS) to frustrate his preparation for defence in court.

In a statement issued Thursday night by Prince Emmanuel Kanu on behalf of the family, they accused the DSS of blocking Kanu’s access to his lawyers, family members, and key witnesses, ahead of his crucial court appearance scheduled for Friday, November 7, 2025.

According to the statement, the DSS has refused to allow Kanu to file important court documents, denied him access to a computer and printer, and prevented him from submitting papers needed for his defence.

“In the last few days, the DSS has made it almost impossible for Mazi Kanu to have proper access to his lawyers, family members, and key witnesses. The DSS has also refused to allow him to file the court documents he needs for his case scheduled for Friday, November 7,” the family said.

The family warned that if Kanu fails to appear in court on Friday, it will not be due to defiance but a result of the DSS’s alleged obstruction.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu may not be able to appear in court on Friday, not because he does not want to, but because he has been denied the opportunity to prepare and defend himself,” the statement added.

The statement listed several ways the DSS is allegedly undermining Kanu’s constitutional rights, including recording private discussions with his lawyers, denying him materials for legal preparation, and stopping him from accessing the court registry.

These actions are a clear violation of the Nigerian Constitution and basic human rights. Every accused person has the right to facilities to help them prepare adequately and interact freely with their lawyers, witnesses, and family members,” the family noted.

They described the DSS’s conduct as “unfair, unlawful, and intentional,” adding that it is part of a wider plan to weaken Kanu’s case.

The family warned that the security agency and the Federal Government should be held responsible if Kanu is absent in court or unable to defend himself.

“If Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot appear in court or defend himself, the DSS and the Nigerian Government should be held responsible. They are frustrating him by ignoring court orders and violating his rights,” the family stated.

Calling for global attention, the family urged international bodies and human rights organizations to intervene and pressure the Nigerian government to respect Kanu’s legal rights.

“We urge the United Nations, African Union, European Union, Commonwealth, and human rights groups to pay close attention to what is happening. The Nigerian Government cannot claim to follow the rule of law while silencing a defendant and blocking his right to a fair hearing,” the statement concluded.

Politics2027: Prophet Arogun Warns Otti May Lose To Mascot If He Doesn’t Change Party by Metrix147(op): 9:34pm On Nov 06, 2025
The General Overseer of Light of the World International Church, Prophet Joshua Arogun, has issued a spiritual warning that Governor Alex Otti may become a one-term governor unless he changes his political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a Wednesday ministerial service in Lagos, Prophet Arogun revealed that the rising political strength of Mascot Uzor Kalu, who recently declared his governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC), could pose a serious threat to Governor Otti's re-election bid.

“The incumbent Governor is popular, but his current party will disappoint him,” the cleric declared. “If he must win, he must change his party and avoid running against Mascot Kalu. Otherwise, he will face the biggest embarrassment of his political career.”

Arogun emphasized that his prophecy is not driven by emotions or bias, but by divine revelation. He warned that there is a “silent majority” preparing to vote overwhelmingly for Mascot Uzor Kalu in what could become a major upset in the Abia political space.

“Power belongs to God. I see Mascot Uzor Kalu attracting a large support base. There is massive preparation going on underground. The people are planning to take back their state,” he said.

Backing the same spiritual sentiment, renowned prophet and head of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, also declared that the 2027 election would be “very tough” for Governor Alex Otti if Mascot Uzor Kalu decides to run.

“If Mascot Uzor Kalu comes out, it’s going to be tough for Governor Otti. It’s all about strategy, not incumbency. If Mascot knows his way, he can defeat him,” Ayodele said during a separate prophetic session.

Both clerics emphasized that while Governor Otti retains some popularity, the strength of Mascot Uzor Kalu's name and growing grassroots momentum could shift the political balance in 2027.

On a broader note, Prophet Arogun also addressed the ongoing global conversation surrounding Christian persecution in Nigeria, following the U.S. designation of the country as a nation of concern.
