duullie88:That is 4.2meters by 3.3meters by 1.35meters That is almost 18,000 litres space ... .. Suppose you use 15,000 litres for the water level becos you won't fill it to top.. That is 15 litres of water per fish... Is OK... The rule of tomb is 10litres per fish if you change every 2 to 3 days.. But with 15 litres you stand at good advantage.. Your pond will accommodate the 1000 fishes to table size conveniently... |

MY PEOPLE... I KNOW THERE ARE SENIOR ARCHITECTS IN THIS FORUM.. AS A CIVIL ENGINEER.. MY BOSS JUST CAME INTO MY OFFICE THIS MORNING FOR ME TO GENERATE ARCHITECTURAL OBJECTIVE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS TO BE USED TO CONDUCT INTERVIEW FOR OUR NEW INTAKE OF ARCHITECTS... PLEASE MY PEOPLE... HELP ME.. I AM A CIVIL/ STRUCTURAL ENGINEER |
LeeCodeman:you welcome... |
LeeCodeman:Smiles... The question is an intelligent one.. And you have to be smart about it when answering.. Your answer need to contain all the variables the person conducting the interview is thinking should be the right answer.. Answer like this.. "Sir, Professionally, roof load must have been factored in the design calculation of the engineer that designed the building.. Base on this, the loads transfered from the roof down to the foundation must have been used to design the substructure and super structure members of the building. However sir, since the load of the initial steel roof can be gotten from the design calculation sheet of the engineer, any option of changing the roof type must be done in accordance with the roof load in the same design calculation sheet.. By not exceeding the initial roof load on the structure.. Putting the above in mind.. A total change in roof design can be carried out by adjusting the sectional sizes and corresponding weight of the newly introduced steel memebers. This wil then lead to a reduction in weight of the steel roof for the building to carry adequately." The above reply have 3 answers.. Which ever one is in the interviewers mind.. Am sure you touched.. Like I said.. You have to be smart... Cos must engineering abstract questions don't give enough details for you to really know what to reply.. All you need is to ascertain a professional way of doing things.. |

Nbg4real:From experience as a Practicing Engineer, Lintel is called "In-built beams" wish are normally constructed on windows, doors and other open partitions.. To the issue at hand,,, Your choice of doing lintel round or not depend on the Structural Design Calculation prepared by the Structural Engineer in charge of the project (Storey building).. You must have experience some completed buildings having cracks at some portion of the building.... what is the cause of this? 1, Poor workmanship 2, Differential settlement.. Poor workmanship can be taken care off with adequate supervision.. but Differential settlement has to be handled by the Structural Engineer when designing at the initial stage especially if it is a water logged area... in-built beams calculation will specify if there is need for it to go round or not.. taking account the Soil bearing Capacity of the build.. To cut the long story short.. Dont want to go into Technical details.. cos i know how boring it is for other proffession There is a rule of thumb i gave my pupil engineers or my bricklayers as the case may be,, At interval of block wall not more than 6 meters, in built beams /lintel/ ring beams of standing column must be constructed to serve as link or chain to the block wall.. ask your self... can crack due to little differential settlement penetrate through lintel? No.. because reinforced Concrete resist Shear more than ordinary block wall.. this is to hold the block wall tight in place in case of any deferential settlement or poor workmanship on the foundation... Oga Mufftau have always been lucky with his structural designers... he avoids water logged lands and have taste for good workmanship.. but still ... experience structural engineers are needed in a building Construction.. The building collapsing today are building built many years back... The failure keep accumulating till it eventually give way.. i have been called to come remedial more than 1000 structural corrections on buildings, i just smile at the level of ignorant of the owners saying... "Mr A and Mr B did it like this, that is why me Mr C did it too.." the money they use for correction will now triple what they would use to hire an experienced Structural Engineers.. IT IS WELL.. amokeme:So so sorry for the late reply.. Didn't get the notification then .. Long o. Since 2015.. But better late than never in the response.. Garri Ijebu is very lucrative in the north cos of it good taste compared to other Garri available in the north that is full of sand and stones.. Secondly.. A southerner don't mind the cost, they just need that Ijebu Garri... Presently.. A tier ( 10 milk cups) of Garri cost 750 naira now in the north.. And is around 400 naira in the south.. Factor in transportation, logistics and all.. You will still make profit.. My dear... The only challenge is look for the market in your area of jurisdiction.. That is all.. Enjoy your day |

Engr. Opalu,it won't be wise for any engineer to upload Coren certificate on social media... Is not professional... There are many ways to confirm Engineer's Authenticity.. 1, physical seeing the certificate 2, Authentication on Coren / NSE website. 3, physically seeing Coren Seal .. Above all.. The presentation of the Engineer himself.. Sorry to say this. Our ethics don't give room for condemnation of fellow Engineers.. But shine your eyes.. |
CASTOSVILLA:Thanks for your reply Architect.. As I believe we all are sharing knowledge here at no cost.. On the market constrained issue of CFRP.. Majority of composite materials including architectural and structural use are still ordered outside the country.. CFRP is no exception .. China, England, Germany and Italy produce CFRP with the specification you have provided.. As we have different grade of CFRP too. It availability in Nigeria is restricted to magnitude of project for now e.g Shell Structures One of my project using CFRP was a mobile hanger I constructed for a government Aviation Training School in Zaria.. Sent all my specifications.. And I received it in 30 working days from England.. The problem I see is the cost... Because is twice the price of normal steel.. But the training school know what they want and they were ready to pay the price. Like I said in my previous comment, a client's desire should be worked out between Architect and Engineers and communicated to client without shying away from cost.. Yoruba adage says.. Soup wet sweet, Nam money Kill am.. Back to the topic on this trend ...my initial view on CFRP was just an example... But if I may come in on the issue of flat roof vs hipped roof.. The two is good depending on what the client desire.. Hipped roof is what is commonly used in Nigeria.. But if you want flat roof.. Will advice you do flat slab tilted with a little slope to run off rain water..the concrete must be very rich.. Grade 25.. Small screening can be allolowed to form another form of protection but is not a must.. Seallant like bitumen and epoxy sheets is always use.. The epoxy sheets are laid to cover the entire slab while the bitumen act as binder.. The problem I see here is that it needs constant maintenance.. And the maintenance involves changing the entire epoxy sheets within 4 to 6 years.. This is not economically good.. But engineers came up with what is known as shell structures to solve all these problems.. Many new generation churches and mosque in nigeria have embraced it... You can do a little research on google.. |
My own little contribution as a structural Engineer.. Any kind of design of roof by client should be made achievable.. Architect and Engineers should brain storm on how to archived the desire of the client.. Is only in Nigeria here that professionals like to do building construction the same way... Don't blame them, because that is what they are sure of... There is what is called composite materials.. Engineers in the house will know this.. Example of composite materials is CFRP, carbon fiber reinforced polymer... CFRP is what is been used now for our latest car body because of it high strength / weight ratio.. Our grand parent 504, 505 peugout Car are made of pure steel and alluminium.. That is why they are very heavy....CFRP is replacing steel which is known to be heavier compare to strength... To cut the technical details, I will advice we professionals, Architect and Engineers to always think outside the box like other professional in the art do.. Even lawyers have started thinking out of the box this days collecting different restraining order.. Together.. Let us try and achieve clients idea.. Engr. A.L Onakomaya MNSE, RCoren.. |
