Somatohadidas: The chances are as compared to other applicants if you have all the required documents, skills, and experience. Once you fulfill the requirements, you have no problems.
Yes, that's very possible. I have seen people do that several times. Let me give you an example. During my masters in Europe, I saw people with Animal science backgrounds going into Animal Breeding and Genetics for Master’s, then, Plant Genetics for PhD and now a head of the Human Genetics Department at a well established hospital. Another is ABG->Animal Reproduction -> Human Reproduction (BSc->MSc->PhD). Animal sciences-> ABG-> Genetics and Bioinformatics
In fact, I have more and more closer examples.
Therefore, don't limit yourself. Go ahead and give it your best shot.
I wish you the best. Thanks so much for your detailed response. I appreciate it! |

SIMPLIFIED: calm down, first PhD Admission is competitive and PhD Admission in Biomedical sciences is among the most competitive. As a Nigerian that studied the life sciences you are already at a Lower scale because most of us don't have that hands on lab research exposure, you see those in US doing summer research, PREP and other lab research to be qualified for Biomedical PhD programs. You need to do something outside the basic to gain PhD Admission in Biomed field from a third world country and even graduating with a high CGPA alone won't cut it in this field. Apply for volunteer research assistant position in a university that has good research lab, places like NIMR, acquire hands on Molecular Biology /bioinformatics skills, you have Inqaba Biotech, Helix Biogene Institute among others. Find postgraduate student in any university in your research area and collaborate in getting publications. Take online courses on Coursera, udemy on Genomics, cancer Biology. Molecular Biology, genetics etc and list on your CV with certificates verified and link attached. This requires adequate planning and dedication, time and money. You are competing against the best from students that are running PCR and Gel Electrophoresis already in their undergrad and many depts take like 5-15 students out of 500+ applicants. Hello sir/ma, please what are the chances of someone with a B.Agric in Animal Breeding and Genetics getting a scholarship in fields, such as, Genomic Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, etc.? |

Somatohadidas: This assertion is wrong. I have seen folks with Master´s and Bachelor's Degrees from Nigeria getting into Biological Sciences and Biomedical PhD programs in the US.
I agree that the competition for places in these programs is becoming very fierce year after year. However, saying that folks "should leave the programs for Americans" is not right—it might even sound demoralising to some people.
Subsequently, I´d like to reiterate that having a first-class is not enough for this. It is important to have rudimentary (even intermediate) knowledge of the current software and tools used in the field. Particularly, for folks looking at the aforementioned programs, it is essential to have a working knowledge of R, Python, Basic Linux and related programs. Furthermore, basic knowledge of bioinformatics and wet lab experience (through internships). Trying your hands (analysis) on various biological data (related to your research area) in various public repositories to test your knowledge would be very beneficial too. It could even help you buttress your points about your passion and zeal for the field in your letter of motivation, statement of purpose or personal statement.
Also, improving knowledge by enrolling in several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and attending related (in-person/virtual) conferences and workshops (there are many available now—thanks to COVID-19). Having membership in National and International Professional Associations in your field should also be considered.
The bitter truth is those you are competing with from the global north have robust opportunities to gain many experiences (wet and dry lab/conferences/posters presentations) before they finish their undergraduate studies. Therefore, you cannot come and tell them (the admission committee) to pick you ahead of them by having a first-class. So, it is not really about luck; check the profiles of those that got into these programs from Nigeria—you will understand what I am trying to say.
I hope this helps someone. Hello sir/ma, please what are the chances of someone with a B.Agric in Animal Breeding and Genetics getting a scholarship in fields, such as, Genomic Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, etc.? PS: Is it also possible to make a switch from Animal Genetics to Hunan Genetics? As that's exactly what I'm trying to do |

Hello gurus! A newbie in stock trading here. I'd like to know if it's possible to make about 50k in a week in local stocks. Let's say I buy 5,000 units of a stock at #30 (150,000) this week.
A week after the stock rises to #40 per unit. Is it a good idea to sell all the 5,000 units at #40 (200,000) to rake in the profits?
Is it something some of you do?
Thanks for your answer! |

OakPearl: UCAR eventually closed yesterday at $7.59 after kissing above $11, but it looks like the party is not over yet. Likely to hit double digits today! We watch. Please I have a very noob question to ask. I've been following this thread for a while and I'm always looking forward to your analysis. Kudos on being consistent and helping other folks grow their finances! To my question, the stocks you recommend here almost daily are they to be traded daily - I mean do you make those recommendations for day trading? If so, how do you come to know what stock to invest in at a particular time and which will do well on a given date. Do you perform the analysis and prediction yourself? Or do you have a platform, for example, The Motley Fool, that gives you these updates? Thanks for answering! |

N2B2: Call GTB customer care and ask them to generate and send to your e-mail an account statement with your residential address on it (Tell them it's for verification purposes and MUST have your address). I'm not sure if they do this often (as they've done it for me before), but it's worth a try. Good luck. Thank you! This worked! |

pocohantas: It has been linked is that it has been linked na. It would automatically enter the USD. When the funds are available, you click “Get Paid” - “Get Paid Now” and it would ask which account you want it to go to. Select Payoneer. That is all. You don’t need to add anything else.
Your money cannot enter bush. If the receiving account doesn’t match, it won’t go through. Relasss and congrats on your first pay. Thanks ma'am! I have done what you said just now. Thanks once again |

Dear seniors, please help me.
So I'm in the process of receiving my first payment from Upwork and I don't want to let money enter bush. I have added Payoneer as a payment method and it has been linked to Upwork but I can't find anywhere to add my Payoneer receiving account details.
Is this normal or should I be worried? Payoneer has already automatically created two receiving accounts for me: GBP and USD but I don't know where the funds will be delivered. Is it my Payoneer USD account? If yes why is Upwork not asking for the account details?
Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone, First of all I want to thank Codedboy95 and everyone who has contributed useful info in this thread. Shout out to qtguru, DrLevi, Pocohantas, N2B2 and other amazing persons for chiming in your experiences and tips.
I created my Upwork account in late July but I didn't take it seriously as at then, I never applied for jobs. Flash forward to early this month when I stumbled across this thread I read the whole thing at one go and committed every piece of info and advice that was shared into setting up my profile. I'm particularly grateful for the tips on proposal writing and job bidding. I got my first job after sending my first batch of proposals! I guess I was lucky to have found this thread. May God bless you all in million folds.
I got my job in technical writing by the way. I'm writing articles on React for an open-source company called Refine. I have finished my first milestone and the client has decided to let me on another project. |

I think irreversible or very critical operations in git should have a prompt that explains what the user is about to do, the implications, and a confirmation if they would like to continue or not.
I recently did 'git reset --hard' because I was having problems pushing my work to Github. Comrades, that's how I lost my hard-written technical articles. Articles that took days and nights. I can't cry because the tears aren't even coming.
I have tried using recovery softwares to get back the files but I can't afford those for now. My advice so you don't end up like me? NEVER USE A GIT COMMAND YOU DO NOT FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IT DOES. |
