To understand the phrase, 'having spoiled principalities', let's look at the rendering in another translation:

"Having made himself free from the rule of authorities and powers, he put them openly to shame, glorying over them in it."(Bible in Basic English).

Notice the phrase;
"Having made himself free from the rule of authorities and powers"

You only make yourself free from what was holding you captive.

There was a battle in hell. Initially, Satan appeared to have the upper hand as a new sinners in quote just entered his domain.

Does that verse mean that both demons and holy spirit speak directly with Christians or that people are inspired by demons or holy spirit to speak so that a Christian can test to perceive which is from God?
