The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says starting from 2020, candidates will register for its examinations with their National Identity Management Number (NIM) to solve the challenges of multiple registration.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Head of Media of the board made this known at a one-day capacity building workshop organised by the National Examination Council (NECO) for education correspondents in Keffi, Nasarawa on Friday.

Benjamin, who spoke on the topic: “Understanding Reporting in the 21st Century”, said the development would be facilitated through partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

According to him, experience has shown that malpractice in the conduct of public examination, especially the UTME, actually begins with the registration exercise.

“Four days ago, we cancelled results of four candidates because of examination malpractices we discovered after the examination.

“The board is on top of the situation as it has the determination and technology in place to forestall attempts at compromising the registration process.

“An intrinsic part of the strategies adopted by the board is ensuring that its registration period is kept very short.”

He said that the registration of candidates would now take 30 days instead of a longer period to contain the chances of fraudsters’ strategies to circumvent the process.

Benjamin also appealed to parents to desist from encouraging their children to commit examination malpractices.

On biometric challenges, he said the board had planned to ensure that by 2020 the issues of biometric problems in the course of registration would be over.

“In 2018, we have about 24,490 biometric challenges but we have been able to bring this down to 22 in 2019; but if we are able to stand on our ground by 2020, we will not have any biometric challenges,” he said.

He added that no Computer Based Test (CBT) centre would be used for the conduct of its examinations except those centre whose administrators were the owners of the CBT centres.

Speaking on the challenges of impersonations in examination, Benjamin said multiple registrations, if not checked, was an easy way to impersonate a candidate.

He noted that the board, in conforming to international best practices, would take care of people with special needs through the ICT capacity building and empowerment programme.

The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi has said that the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, was by his behaviour exhibiting traits of the head-boy of a primary school.

He added that members of the ruling APC, who had ambitions during the just-concluded leadership election in the National Assembly, ignored Oshiomhole and disregarded his directives for being too shallow and childish.

The lawmaker spoke on Sunday during a Thanksgiving Service he organised in his hometown at Ilase-ijesha, to appreciate people of his senatorial district over his electoral triumph.

According to Fadahunsi, both the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, campaigned vigorously across party lines for them to emerge, adding that had it been that both of them relied and listened to Oshiomhole’s directives, the elections would have gone the other way.

He opined that the consciousness for competence and vibrancy, irrespective of party affiliations, in which the NASS elections were predicated, must be sustained to maintain a peaceful and successful parliament.

Fadahunsi, who won election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, called for masses-oriented legislation in the ninth National Assembly to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Conspiracy theorists have been sent in a frenzy after a video clip appears to prove Michael Jackson is still alive.

In a short clip filmed at Prince's graduation ceremony at Loyola Marymount University a man's voice can be heard in the background.


The high-pitch tone has led some loyal fans to suggest that the voice in Michael's, despite being dead since 2009, when he died from a cardiac arrest.

In the footage Prince can be seen going to collect his diploma on stage back in May when a woman who is behind the camera can be heard saying "Right there on the left."

She points the lens at Prince before it quickly pans to the room and an unknown man's voice says something inaudible.

A kidnapper who was paraded in Abuja on Wednesday alongside 37 other suspects, disclosed that they collected N200m ransom in 6 months.



The kidnapper identified as Abubakar Umar, who disclosed that collected N200m ransom in 6 months, further revealed that they he once collected N100m cash in a kidnap operation. Umar aka Dogo, specializes in kidnapping expatriates.



Speaking to newsmen, he said;

“My job is kidnapping and I operate mainly in Niger and Kebbi states. I operated with my masters who operate in Sokoto. During one of the operations, we collected N100m in ransom. We did another operation in Oyo and we realised N50m. I participated in six kidnap operations. We kidnapped a Chinese and he paid N9m without a problem before he (victim) was released.”



Umar also said he made N4m from another kidnap job and another N500,000 in Kebbi.

“For the one in Niger, I kidnapped and collected N4m. After that, I was contacted by an informant who gave me another job and I realised N4m. I got another job in Kebbi where we collected N1m. Another victim we kidnapped didn’t have much money but he was able to pay N500,000 before he was released.”

Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, said they intercepted 28 trucks containing 1,972 bags of grains and 208 bags of beans meant for delivery to kidnappers and bandits in some northern states. He also disclosed that the police had devised strategies to stop weapon and food supplies to criminals.

He said, “Apart from intensifying efforts to mop up weapons, we have also carried out strategies aimed at intercepting food delivery to the criminals.”

The immediate past Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Isaac Mohammed Alfa, has explained that his short stay in the Nigerian Senate was the resolve of the people’s mandate that voted him in 2015.

The National Coordinator of the Movement for the Actualization of Igbo Presidency, Comrade Emmanuel Ezechikwelu Chinedu has reaffirmed the commitment of his group to pursue its mandate of seeing to the emergence of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, come 2023.

Addressing journalists in Enugu after the group’s executive meeting in his office on Tuesday, Comrade Ezechikwelu noted that the demand for Nigerian president of Igbo extraction “is not only right and legitimate but also based on equity, good conscience and natural justice.”


He added that the defining moment of Nigerian nationhood would be on May 29, 2023, when a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction would take over the baton of leadership from the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari.

Comrade Ezechikwelu recalled that “in the advent of the fourth republic in 1999, the consensual decision by the then two major political parties to zone the presidency to South West, that produced Olusegun Obasanjo of PDP and Olu Falae of ANPP as the leading candidates in the 1999 presidential election was taken to heal the wounds and problems created by annulment of June 12, in 19993 election.”

He urged all Igbos and well-meaning Nigerians to support the project “because the success of this project apart from healing wounds and pains inflicted on the Igbos during the civil war, it would engender a conducive and convivial atmosphere for national rebirth, national unity and unprecedented development, never witnessed in the country before."

Going down memory lane, Comrade Ezechikwelu recalled that “the North had had the large chunk of the country’s political leadership starting with Alhaji Tafawa Balewa’s five years and three months (October 1, 1960 – January 15, 1966); Gen. Yakubu Gowon’s nine years (July 29, 1966 – July 29, 1975); Gen. Murtala Mohammed’s seven months (July 29, 1975 – February 13, 1976); Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s four years and two months (October 1, 1979 – December 31, 1983); Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s one year and eight months (December 31, 1983 – August 27, 1985); Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s eight years (August 27, 1985 – August 26, 1993); Gen. Sani Abacha’s four years and seven months (November 17, 1993 – June 8, 1998); Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar’s one year (June 8, 1998 – May 29, 1999); Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua’s three years (May 29, 2007 – May 5, 2010); and President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years (May 29, 2015 – May 29, 2023).”

Continuing he said: “In total, the regional North would have led Nigeria for 45 years and three months by May 2023. The Yoruba of the South-West, have led the country for exactly 11 years and 11 months: Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo’s three years and eight months (February 13, 1976 – October 1, 1979); Chief Ernest Shonekan’s three months (August 26 -November 17, 1998); and Obasanjo’s eight years as elected president (May 29, 1999 – May 29, 2007).”

He further said that Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi (January 15 – July 29, 1966, sat the throne for only six months.

It is often said Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was a ceremonial president because power resided with the prime minister,” he added.

He urged President Buhari, the ruling APC and all well-meaning Nigerians “to support the Nigerian President of Igbo extraction to douse the tension, anxiety and the passion of renewed secession agitation of pro-Biafra movements among young Igbos in the South-East, and also to eliminate completely the genuine fears of Igbo marginalisation.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says the Federal Government is discussing with stakeholders on ways to restructure Nigeria’s power sector with a view to improving supply and attracting more investment to the country.

Osinbajo stated this in Abuja on Tuesday at a Breakfast Meeting of the Lagos Business School.

He expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating “a willing buyer, willing seller” situation in the power sector market.

According to Osinbajo, the same old ways where Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) controlled territory that they could not service cannot continue, NAN reports.

“I think that what the Distribution Companies will argue, and what also we have to accept, is that we really have to have a cost-effective tariff one way or the other.

The way it has worked in the experiments we have seen and what we have done is, for example, what we call the energising economies projects that we have done where we have enabled private power in markets,” he said.

The Vice President noted that private power projects had been executed at the Sabon Gari Market in Kano; the Ariaria Market in Aba; the Sura Market in Lagos; and in Ondo.

He said that the arrangements enabled the private power supplier to provide power to shop owners and businesses at an agreed cost-effective tariff.

Osinbajo observed that the current regulatory framework of the power sector in the country had to take into consideration the effective model of power supply.

“I think the current regulatory structure just has to accommodate the realities and we have got to make sure that we move ahead, otherwise we are going to have ourselves – as we are at the moment – regulating 4,000 megawatts of power for the next four years, which obviously is a disaster.

“We can’t sit here complaining about some people, who are complaining about power and saying we should cancel the licences of people who are providing power.

“It’s not going to work.”

The vice president further said that the Federal Government was also working to attract more investment to the gas sector.

On industrialisation, he said government was planning to develop Special Economic Zones nationwide with the aim of creating special places that would have different atmospheres conducive for processing, manufacturing, and industrialisation.

He said that economic zones were being built in Lagos, Aba, Katsina, and other places.

Osinbajo said that there were also plans to build up infrastructure in small, medium, and large industrial clusters already existing across Nigeria.

He said that government was looking at the leather hubs in Aba in Abia; Ogidi in Anambra, and Kano state as well as iron works and fabrication clusters in Nnewi, Anambra State and in Bauchi.

The whole point is that we want to make sure that where we have existing economic clusters, we go in there to assist with power and other infrastructural needs that they may have there.

“So, we are not necessarily creating new zones or new clusters, but building up those that we have so that they can be much more productive.”

The vice president, who also spoke on human capital development in the “Next Level” of the Buhari administration, especially in relation to education and health, said that Nigeria would have a problem if something drastic was not done about them.

He said that the Federal Government and the states were considering how to enforce the nine-year free and compulsory education policy in the country.

“This is a policy of the Federal Government and we believe that it must be enforced, especially because we know that this is the critical years of the child’s life,” he said.

He said that enforcing the policy would ensure that the number of out-of-school children in the country dropped.

According to him, the Federal Government’s policy on education also involves the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics programmes, which will deal with the whole question of teacher training for digital literacy.

Osinbajo said that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would expand the Social Investment Programmes, including the N-Power scheme, the Home Grown School Feeding Programme, the Conditional Cash Transfer, and the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme so that it would include more Nigerians.

Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Mathew Manoso Ndagoso has said that the current administration has shown that it cannot lead Nigerians out of hunger and insecurity.

He noted that issues of hunger and insecurity were becoming worse by the day.


The Bishop stated this when he fielded questions from journalists at the ongoing Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Catholic Diocesan Priests’ Association taking place at the Catholic Social Centre, Kaduna.

The cleric said since his ordination into priesthood 33 years ago, he had yet to know any regime as bad as the President Buhari led All Progressives Congress, APC, government.

He said since the present government came to power, people from all walks of life had been trouping into his office to beg for money and food to feed their families.

According to him, “You see, in governance or democratic government, if you know you don’t have the capacity to even rule a local government, don’t put yourself forward.

“The very fact that you put yourself forward you are telling the people that you have the capacity and the know-how.

“Even if you don’t have the know-how I think in leadership, you don’t need to have the know-how.

I think you should have the intelligence to get people who know to be able to do the job. Nobody, no matter how intelligent you are, you cannot do it alone.

“Now talking about the present government, I think the simple question that every Nigerian should ask is – my life today and my life before this government came in, what is the difference?

“Go on the streets and ask Nigerians, four years on, how is your life compared to before?


“I can tell you I am 33 years in priesthood, I have never seen Nigerians come to my office in tears looking for ordinary food.

“You see them dressed up in Agbada, but if they tell you what they are going through – that they are not able to feed their families. It has never been this bad in our country.”

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has said it cannot disclose the details of President Muhammadu Buhari’s assets.

CCB stated this in response to a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), which sought a disclosure of assets declared by successive presidents and governors from 1999 till date.

SERAP had asked the CCB to provide “details of declarations made immediately after taking offices and thereafter, and for those who have left public offices, at the end of their term of office.”

They also wanted the CCB to make public, “information on the number of asset declarations so far verified by the CCB and the number of those declarations found to be false and deemed to be in breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, by the Bureau.”

However, in a letter signed by Musa Usman, the bureau said the request “falls short of the requirement of the law”.


The letter with reference number CCB/HQ/LU/047/59 said only the National Assembly, can prescribe conditions for the release of the forms.

“Paragraph 3(c) of the 3rd schedule to the 1999 Nigerian constitution (as amended) empowers the bureau to retain custody of asset declaration and make them available for inspection by any citizen on such terms and conditions to be prescribed by the national assembly. These terms and conditions are yet to be prescribed.

“Assuming the freedom of information Act is the term and condition, Sections 12(1)(v) and 14(1)(b) of the Act makes information in the asset declaration form private and producing such information would be an invasion of privacy of presidents and governors. Section 14(2)(3) of the same Act stipulate conditions for granting requests for private information but these have not been met by SERAP’s application.


“Section 12(1)(a)(4)(a)(b) exempt production of information relating to investigation for the purposes of law enforcement and such investigation must have been carried out pursuant to an Act or regulation. Verification is an investigation carried out pursuant to Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act for the purposes of law enforcement.

“Referring breaches of the Code of Conduct for public officers to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for prosecution is a matter of discretion of the bureau and not a matter of FOI.

“Consequently, I am further directed to convey to you that the request in SERAP’s application for information on details of asset declarations by presidents and state governors since the return of democracy in 1999 is hereby denied on the grounds that it falls short of the requirement of the law. Following the spate of bandit attacks, over 2,277 people have been displaced in eight communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger State.

The affected communities, according to a report by The Nation, include Kwaki village, Barden Dawaki village, Ajatawyi village, Gwassa, Ajayin Bataro, Bwailo, Baton village and Giji village.

On Sunday, bandits had invaded many communities in the local government area, leaving over 62 people killed, scores of people injured while some are still missing.

It was gathered that while the state government was trying to set up Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camps, some other displaced people had taken refuge in some schools in Gwada and Zumba areas of the local government area.

The Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Mohammed Abubakar, said security agents had been drafted to the local government area to ensure that normalcy returns to the council.

However, a Youth Leader in Gwada area, Alheri Yunusa, said that though normalcy has returned to the affected communities, the villagers were scared of going back home.

According to him, a lot of people were killed and injured while some were still missing.

“A friend of mine when he heard about the attack went to his village to bring his grandmother back to town but we are yet to hear about him. I was told he was shot, so we do not know if he is still alive or dead,” Mr Yunusa stated.

Giving the breakdown of figures of the displaced persons, the Niger state Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, said as at Thursday night, 2004 people had been registered into Erena Camp, 134 in Gwada Camp and 139 in Zumba Camp.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 100 percent increase in the allowances of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials.



Sanwo-Olu announced the increase when he visited the LASTMA headquarters at Oshodi, Lagos. He promised that the increase would commence from the end of July 2019 while also saying that LASTMA officials would be entitled to free treatment.

“From the end of next month, we are going to double your allowance, from the end of next month. If you are earning N5,000 allowance, we are going to double it for you. It is Lagos State tax payer’s money we are going to be giving to all of you so the citizens are going to be expecting a new, reformed and more civil LASTMA officers, Any LASTMA official that is on duty and has reported one form of illness or the other should be treated free of charge.”
He commended the officials for their service to ensure a free flow of traffic and traffic management in the state. The governor also reiterated his promise to rehabilitate bad roads in Lagos while insisting the government would be strict with traffic offenders.



He tasked the LASTMA officials not to allow any offender go without paying fine saying, "if the person says he knows the governor, tell him to call the governor to pay the money for the offence.” Sanwo-Olu urged the traffic management officers to be civil when engaging road users.

“They (people) want a LASTMA officer that shows civility. Courtesy demands courtesy if you are going to even arrest or apprehend somebody, be courteous and respectful to them,” he added.

A big Gorilla in the Kano Zoological Gardens has reportedly swallowed N6.8 million meant for the operations of the zoo. The money was generated from tourists who visited the zoo during the Eid celebrations.



On Monday June 10th when workers resumed work, it was discovered that the money was nowhere to be found.



A local radio station in the state, Freedom Radio had reported on Thursday June 13th that one of the finance officers it spoke with had said that one huge Gorilla sneaked into their office and allegedly swallowed the close to seven million naira.



Confirming the loss of the money, the Managing Director of the zoo, Umar Kashekobo, said indeed there was money missing in the organization but that he would rather not say anything about it as the matter was under investigation.



''The issue is under investigations for now and I don’t want to say anything concerning the matter. Many journalists have met me on the issue but I don’t want to say anything. All I can to say is that the money got missing.”


Commenting on the matter, the spokesperson in the state police command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, said the matter was under investigation.

” Yes it is true that money got missing from the Kano Zoo. It is money they realised for five days of Sallah festivities. As at now, we have arrested 10 staff members of the Zoo and they are in police CID. Among the people we arrested are the gatemen and the people in the finance unit. What we want to understand is why they left such huge amount of money for five days without taking it to the bank,” Haruna said


This case is no different than the one that happened in February 2018 when one Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Benue state, had claimed that a huge snake swallowed N36m, which the board made from sale of scratch card.

A woman has been accused of burning her stepson's face with an electric iron and the boy's father is accused of doing nothing about it.

According to Twitter user Opomulero Eleniyan, the boy, Ezekiel Kuti, 10, is the son of a military officer. The officer's wife allegedly used a hot iron to brand the officer's son's face at their home in Owode Onirin, opposite Old Barack in Lagos.

Photos of the boy's face shows he was burnt on both cheeks, mouth, and jaw. He also had scars on his back and other parts of his body.

Nigerians have expressed doubts over President Muhammadu Buhari’s ability to obey court order – in the wake of an Abuja High Court oder nullifying the suspension of the licence of Daar Communications PLC, operators of AIT and Ray Power.

Following the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC’s move on Thursday, withdrawing the operating license of the Daar Communications PLC,and consequently shutting down its media outlets; AIT and Ray Power over alleged breach of the NBC’s broadcasting code, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja on Friday issued an order lifting the ban.

But some Nigerians are far from optimistic, recounting President Buhari’s antecedents as regards respect for court orders.


Recall that President Buhari on major occasions had displayed disregard for court orders.
Here are three notable cases where the president had allegedly disregarded court orders.


Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) contract agreement with FG
British firm Among Patel had sued the Buhari administration over the cancellation of a compensation settlement for the company years after the government reneged on its contractual commitments.
After a Washington D.C. court affirmed a $6.59 billion arbitral award, plus $2.30 billion interest, against Nigeria in the case, as reported by Premium Times, the presidency through the Solicitor-General of the federation, said the decision of the court was a ‘default entry’ and not a judgement.

The government also argued that the court lacks constitutional powers to institute such an order against a sovereign state like Nigeria.

Prolonged detention of Islamic Movement of Nigeria leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky
Recall that In 2016, a court had ordered the government to set the Shiite leader, Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife, Malama Zeenat Ibrahim free, after he was arrest on the accounts of confrontation between his group and the Nigerian Military.


However, till date, the government has refused to release the Shiite leader maintaining that setting Zakzaky free will be too dangerous for the Nigerian State.

Ex-National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki has been in detention in the custody of the State Security Service since December 2015, after being accused of illegal possession of firearms and diversion of $2.1 billion from the arms deal contract.
