sinizia: Nice collection you listed there. I've not even watched any of them save for Lincoln. Let me quickly write them down and download later. Which of them is boring, I don't want to sleep off watching any? The Artist pays homage to to 1910s and 20s movies I.e silent movies, so it may be boring to you, but TWBB and The Master are probably the movies of the century so far. |

afrodoc2: Winning Oscar is about more than acting performance. So many things have to go for you. You have to deliver a great performance, hope that there is nobody who has missed out many times before been compensated that year, hope that there is nobody in an iconic or socially relevant role that year e.g a gay role, transgender role, domestic abuse survivor, Jewish Holocaust survivor role e.t.c. Your studio has to have an effective PR machine, if you are a man you have to hope Daniel Day Lewis is not nominated also lol. Brando got only 2, De Niro got 2, and the one Pacino got was probably not even in his top 3 performances. Di Caprio should relax he will get more cos he is still young and his talent is real. DiCaprio is good but let's not get over ourselves here, all his movies are pretty much not Oscar winning materials.Which of his movie acting is as good as Dallas Buyers Club,The Artist,TWBB,Lincoln. His award for the revenant was cos the academy felt they owed him one, it wasn't even his best movie.I also agree with you, the Oscars is no no longer about merit, its more of politics and campaigning, if not Jaoquin Phoenix should have won for The Master, probably the best acting I've seen since Raging Bull. |

sleepyeyez: i disagree. adele is in no way a better singer. different strokes for different folks cos i found adele's last album boring. personally, i would have loved to see Bieber's "the purpose" album win in that category. and Adele is the epitome of mediocrity, regurgitates music which is hyped by hipster critics, no diversity, the same bloated sentimental love ballad in all her songs. |

is it my fault Nigeria/Nigerians generally have poor maintenance culture
you'll be surprised some superstitious beliefs that'll accompany it if its to be implemented
backward thinking n Nigeria are related Those woods are very rare, and would require huge cases of logging and deforestation which is not OK for the environment. |

Koolking: We are too docile, any one can exchange poo for our hard earned money. We worship mediocre thereby directly encouraging more mediocre. Nigerian artistes are all cult-personalities (media hyped), they got nothing creative to offer. Asa makes good music, but she can't sell in Nigeria - our understanding of talent and music doesnt consider Asa.
I listened to CoolFM this morning because a friend requested I should - that he was going to call the station on relationship issue. During one of the programs, I heard a lady who claimed to be a rap artiste full time, Something 'kokoice' (dunno if that's correct) . I was hard on myself and full of regret after listening to her freestyle on air. Nigerians were actually calling to congratulate her on her upcoming album. Damn! What exactly will be the contents of the album? Definitely noise. We deserve what we get. ASA music is for a niche market, believe it or not she has legions of fans home and above, if she organizes a show with gate fee of 500k at Eko hotel or suites, people will fill up the whole place. My point is mainstream Nigerian music is bad as it is everywhere but I get your point, mediocrity has far been celebrated in Nigeria, it now seems like the norm.Thanks. |
TV/Movies › Re: Grammys 2017: The Full List Of Winners by MicKaro: 3:22pm On Feb 14, 2017 |
Koolking: Do we even make music in Nigeria? Music died in Nigeria in late 90s. We make noise now my friend?
Why should I invest in noise when I can get it free in Lagos bus stops and street corners? Sir, I understand your plight, we are a people known for giving credit to mediocre. We lack taste for talent and creativity. Bad music is not an affliction affecting only Naija music industry, it is everywhere, compare Grammy winners today to those in the 90s,my brother, the difference is as clear as day and night, blame the younger generation not the artiste, they are only doing their job, hope you got my point.Thanks. |
