Politics / Saraki, Akume Jostle For Senate President Seat by Mickop(m): 7:33pm On Apr 02, 2015
Abuja - With the All Progressives
Congress (APC) winning majority
of the seats in the Senate in the
next dispensation, behind the
scene moves for leadership
positions in the upper chamber has begun, reports Daily Trust. Senators Bukola Saraki from
Kwara, George Akume from
Benue and Abdullahi Adamu of
Nasarawa are in contention for
the Senate President seat. The APC had tentatively zoned
the position of the Senate
President to the North Central
after its national convention in
December following the
emergence Muhammadu Buhari, who is from the North West, as
the party’s presidential candidate
and his running mate, Professor
Yemi Osinbajo, from the South
West. Incidentally all the three Senators
jostling for the seat are former
governors of their respective
states. The North East APC Senators are
also making a case for the
position of Senate President to be
zoned to their region. The party’s National Executive
Committee (NEC) is expected to
take on a power
sharing arrangement next week

Education / ASUU Hails Buhari, Says Nigeria On Path Of Revival by Mickop(m): 9:32am On Apr 02, 2015
Lagos - The Academic Staff
Union of Universities (ASUU) on
Wednesday said that the
outcome of the March 28
Presidential election showed that
Nigeria was on the path to the much needed revival. Dr Nasir Fagge, National
President of ASUU, said in
Lagos. Fagge said that the entire
electoral process and the
resultant outcome was a sign of
good things to come. ''Let me start by first
congratulating the President-
elect, Maj.-Gen. Buhari, for the
victory. I think with this election
this time around, our country is
gradually finding its way toward revival. ''For the first time, our collective
wish as a people has prevailed
and of course, as you know, our
elections had not always come
out in a way that truly reflect the
minds of Nigerians. ''With a new administration in
place, it is my belief that issues
surrounding insurgency,
education, power and health will
be given priority attention.

Crime / Re: Don’t Expect Miracles When I Tackle Boko Haram – Buhari Tells Nigerians by Mickop(m): 7:24am On Apr 02, 2015
Buhari was asked what tactics
his adminstration will use to
tackle Boko Haram; “peaceful negotiations or hitting them
hard” in which he asked “Hitting them with what? He continued: “Boko Haram by the 14th of February at
the elections that was
postponed, were according
to government calculations
were in charge of fourteen
local governments. These are 14 local governments
out of 774 local
governments. “If for five, six years the law
enforcement agencies
including the military could
not secure fourteen local
governments out of 774,
how can I promise miracles when i come?” He added: “But with the cooperation of our
neigbours; Cameroon, Niger,
Chad and the international
community and the
commitment we are going to
get from the military, it will take us a much shorter time
to deal with them” When told his party members
are as corrupt as those he
plans to fight against and asked
if he would corruption to its
fullest, Buhari said “I hope you n Nigerians will give me the opportunity to see whether
me effort will be good
enough or not”

He added; ” he signed an undertaking and I think he
did his best” When asked about how he
would go about fulfilling his
promises to Nigerians, Buhari
replied; “I wouldn’t have made the promises if I don’t
know how to go about it. We
identified a number of
problems that is insecurity
in the country which
everybody knows; the lack of employment which is the
situation of the economy
generally by corruption and
corruption itself” “This three fundamental
problems, Nigerians know it
and we are asking Nigerians
for their cooperation and
they should’t expect
miracles to happen a couple of months later because the
situation took so many
years which is 16 years of
the ruling party’s rule of this
country”.

of our collective will” which
Nigeria possesses which he
