PoliticsOsun’s Federal Allocation Can’t Pay Electricity Bill – Aregbesola by micronut(op): 1:41pm On Nov 30, 2015
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, says Osun State received only N55m from the Federation Account for the month of September, 2015. He said the money could not even settle the electricity bill of the government secretariat. The governor said the development was evidence that Nigeria was experiencing an economic meltdown.

He, therefore, called on residents of the state to return to agriculture as oil could no longer sustain the nation’s economy. The governor said this during the inauguration of the new Ife/Orile-Owu 33KV feeder line at Orile-Owu in Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state, according to a statement on Sunday.

The governor said that apart from the price issue, crude oil was no longer selling as fast as it used to, adding that Nigeria must seek other sources of revenue.

He said, “We must at this point tell ourselves the truth; there is no money coming from the Federation Account, 34 million barrels of Nigeria’s crude oil are on the sea without buyers.“Money coming from the Federation Account has reduced seriously and our hope of survival is in our hands, what our forefathers lived on was agriculture.

“We must now go back to the farms and work. We also need to pay our taxes so that the government can meet its responsibilities. For September, our state got N55.8 million. The money we received cannot pay for the power supply by IBEDC that we use at the state secretariat monthly.

“I want to use this opportunity to admonish us to return to the farms, what we used to rely on as a country and state is no longer there. Oil prices have now dropped seriously, even at about $41 per barrel from a price of over$ 100; Nigeria still cannot sell her oil in the international market.”The governor said his administration recently gave hectares of land to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture for farming and with the electrification of Orile-Owu and other farm settlements, there would be a boost in agriculture around these areas. He urged the people of the state to pay their taxes to the government to discharge its duties.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party said the receipt of a paltryN55m by Osun State as the allocation from the Federation Account for the month of September was a confirmation that the state was highly indebted.

The spokesperson for the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, who said this in a statement on Sunday, stated that the allocation remained N55m after deductions of over N1bn to service its debts were made from the source.

The PDP stated that the people of the state should know why Osun State got a paltry N55m while those in the same category with it got about N2bn.

The statement read, “We have been saying it long before now that Osun State has been slaughtered and eaten up by a gluttonous administration that has been in power in the last five years. The gimmick early this year was ‘Jonathan didn’t give Osun money’ but now, that cannot sell again, hence the confession.

“Before the confession by Ogbeni Aregbesola, three Nigerian newspapers on Friday, November 20, published an allocation table and Osun got N55m, after all deductions, and came last. The next state to Osun among the least earners got N1.5bn.

“What other signs do we need to see that Osun has completely fallen into a recession? But the people of Osun deserve to know from their leader how the state got into this quagmire. This leads us to the question of how much Osun owes. Mr. Governor said the state owes N88bn. But we insist the amount is far more than this.”The party warned the governor against slamming high taxes on the people of the state, adding that the administration had already impoverished the people with its policies.

In a separate statement, the Civil Society Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State also said that Aregbesola’s administration had no right to collect any taxes from the people ofthe state because of its failure to comply with the sections of the constitution which stipulates conditions for the collection of taxes.

The chairman of the group, Mr. Sulaiman Adeniyi, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday.

He said the policies of the government had led to the total collapse of the economy of the state and accused the administration of massive corruption and failure to perform its duties to the people.

PoliticsOkorocha To NECO: English, Mathematics Shouldn’t Be Compulsory by micronut(op): 6:22pm On Nov 29, 2015
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has called on universities in the country and other relevant bodies to drop the idea of making English language and mathematics compulsory for admissions into higher institutions.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor averred that making these two subjects compulsory for admissions had frustrated many brilliant students who for some reasons could not pass any of the two subjects, in their bid for higher education.

Okorocha, who said this when the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examination Council, (NECO), Prof. Abdulrashid Garba visited him at the Government House Owerri, with his team, stressed that the time has come for all the concerned bodies in the country to help our education and also help students with the ambition of pursuing higher education, by dropping the demand that a child must credit English and mathematics to gain admission.

According to the governor, because of the rule that made it mandatory that Nigerian students must credit English and mathematics before they could proceed to higher institutions, some students indulge in some unconventional activities to scale the hurdle while some of the brilliant ones who could not make the subjects for one reason or the other would be made to stay at home.

I felt my whole world crumbling, I was destabilised and confused. I didn't know where else to go to, or who to call next. To say the fact, I was tired of running from one house to the other, I was tired of squatting, I was tired of saving money from my handwork which was never enough and life was becoming meaningless to me, and suddenly I remembered there was fellowship for that day and I decided to attend the fellowship. I wanted a communication with God, I finally decided.
After fellowship that day, I passed the night at the girl's hostel with one of my course mates. It wasn't a comfortable experience for me though as I had to lie on the floor close to her bunk.
I became a full time member at the fellowship, joined the publication unit again and became very devoted. My schedule included just fellowship and class.
Sometimes I slept in classrooms after reading at night, would go to the girl's hostel in the mornings to clean up, I attended all night praise and worship organised by my fellowship and other fellowships partly because I had no where to sleep. Life for me continued that way until I was made the Secretary of the publication unit because the former Secretary had to leave the school. It was a big challenge for me because I had new responsibilities and because not everyone in the unit liked the fact that I was made the Secretary, according to them, I left the fellowship only to come back and claim the position of the Secretary. I believe my being made the Secretary was simply Grace. Because I was now a full time worker and had a position in the fellowship, I was told I could start living in the pastorium (it is an apartment meant for workers that held positions in the fellowship) which I gladly accepted. During fellowships I saw Rita, we became friends but not really as close as we were before. She was in the choir and was also a financial treasurer.
Back at the department, Andy avoided me anytime he saw me, if I made to call him or want to strike a conversation when we were finally together, he would always come up with one excuse or the other and would walk away leaving me staring after him.
Amaka on the other hand was busy with her boo, the only time I was at her place was when she needed me to help her out with her assignments or when I needed some of my belongings before I finally moved them into the pastorium I was staying.
Second semester arrived, thankfully there were no classes, there was only the IT for that semester.
To say the fact, I had my industrial training inside the school. I also could not rewrite my carry over exam because the lecturer finally told me I was wasting my time after much pleading.. He said it was impossible to record my score for that course with the IT hence his refusal.....
You see why i asked those questions the other time?? rather than tell me to keep following the story.. You carefully took your time to tongue-lash me for nothing.

I Knew why i asked "What was the role of the fellowships then". Those arms, have helped thousands of students while i was way back in school. I knew of two friends that slept in the mission/fellowship house throughout a year. (Cos i use to go for an all-nighter reading in those fellowship).

Like someone said, thank God you traced your path to God which has allowed you to conquer and excel against all odds.

Am happy for your life and wish you the best! I hope you have learnt to be helping others too.

And for the serious vituperation from you, i just can't say you erred, but like seriously, i had expected you as an Ex Gen Sec. of a student fellowship to have learnt to exhibit the virtues of calmness and tolerance, even when you are seriously annoyed! We should always learn not to let our mood swings get a better part of us.

I writes too, but i must admit, you rocks. I have had the ample opportunity to get along with notable writers in seminars and social forum, i must tell you, the readers cum writers response have always been superb, even with nasty comments. Many takes it as a compliment, it's one of those things that comes with writings. Even Achebe's, Okigbo's, Cyprians, W.S and literary works of many writers have been seriously criticise from ingenuity to tribalism. It's a small world sis, we don't know who is who.

Indeed, my time here has been worth the while and i can't but wish you all the best in Life.

More grace and Wisdom.

Happy Sunday Fellas! Today makes it exactly 1year that the incident happened. And as a man, i had swept it aside because it was a chicken change (Small cash), but i felt it is worth sharing, at least to help all those who may fall victim of people that beg for help, every now and then, particularly online. Yes! It's a good thing to help, it is one of those things i love doing, but the wicked people have made helping a hard thing to do.

Today, while surfing the net and Nairaland particularly, i came across a guy that needed 10k badly for his startup business, i wish i could help cos i have the means but i remember my experience.

On 28th of Nov. 2014, I bought a University pre-degree scratch cards via e-transact for my junior sister at 15k, luckily she was given admission in another University that same day... I came to nairaland to sell the card at 10k after the 3rd day of buying it.

Luckily, a young girl called me about few hours after, told me she needed the form. I said owk, that she should pay into an account and i would send the pin. She said she is scared not to be defrauded.I smiled and told her she has nothing to worry about. After 2hrs she called me back along with her bf, the guy chat me up on whatsapp and he said, they have fear that they just can't trust nairaland guys. I said fine, if that is the case...Can i also trust you too? He responded saying they are good Christians, that it is even me that they are scared of.

I told him, owk.. I would send the pin, they should make sure they send my money on Monday, cos the day was on a Sunday. And that they should send me their Facebook ID. I did add them immediately and send the pin.

I Checked the University portal that Sunday evening and discovered they have used the pin, saw all her data... she had filled the form, submitted and printed exam photo card. I called her, she said yes they filled the form at a cyber cafe.. I wish her all the best.

Fast forward to Monday evening, i didn't see any payment in respect of that, no message from both end. After two days, i call the girl.. She begged me that something happened and that they have not forgotten, hopefully on Friday. After Friday, no show.. I Called again, this time, it's the boyfriend, you need to see how this guy was telling he is expecting one money in d next few weeks. I Laughed at both of them and gave them 2weeks deadline after which i would stop asking them and pray they would be paid back in folds. After 2weeks, no show again.. I saw them on Facebook doing big boy and girl lovers and using loving up dp, i just smile.

I have to call them for the last time, that am done with them, and told them frankly that am bigger than 10k, just don't want the card to waste. It could have been better if they had begged for it. Till tomorrow, i never heard from them again.

Moral lesson: Before you help, ensure you are helping the right person and not taking out of your little to enrich another, because their are thousands of fake Guys, folks that are not just trustworthy and many fraudsters out there.

NB: You may share your experience for others to learn too. It makes men and women to be much more watchful and to be be extra careful as well.

Hey relax! Don't be offended but your questions were not smart at all.
How can you expect REAL NAMES in her story for Christ sake by believing it took place in the East.
Look, understand that it might be tiring to explain things as if she's dealing with kids here.
I'd been a silent reader too. When she drops another episode use you head and make for any unclear aspects.
It's her story you guys should not strain her.

It may have been a long time the rape stuff happened to the Op(if it did happen) but its only normal that she's still traumatised over the event, not to talk of the fact that she's now narrating it and of all people, you happen to be the scape goat she vent the anger out on.Scars hardly cover you know.
I know of some rape victims and Most of them don't forget that day. That day replaced a loving part in their heart and it turns stonecold. So I really will not be surprised if in reality, the Op was a 'bittchy, arrogant, insultive, disrespectful'(like Rita said,no offense) girl. She just dint let herself heal.
Well, my angle is to ascertain the sudden neglect from home cos in the earlier part of the story, the mother still keep in touch but seems that fades away as time goes by. Hence, my reason for asking if the "poor woman" still strives to pay the tuition fee. Is that too much to ask??

Also, i also noticed Op is alone ranger, such is more of an "only child" not even a mention of a sister or brother... would it have hurt to clarify that too?

An the "Jesu" and "Igbo names"side, just want to know if all characters names are not real names, like she said, "a pseudonym". It seriously has nothing to do with Ethical misdemeanor or as a chauvinist. But she choose to say it in a very angry manner.

God bless bro. Lets Enjoy the story with patience, it's one of those things.

Thanks bro.. I never envisaged the abrupt level of insult from someone that should understand people better. But, then it's all good! We keep learning everyday. ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
1. Look before you leap. You probably did not follow the story but here you are spewing thrash to show case your ignorance.
2. That shouldn't be the basis of the story, should it?
3. Visit my number 1 answer
4. Visit my number 1 answer again and this time don't ever misquote a person by trying to be analytical.

Sorry to say this, but your ignorance is overwhelming. Lemme ask you
Are there no people from other tribes in your state? And where have you ever seen the characters of a story (whether true or untrue) with their actual names? They are always pseudonyms young man pseudonyms!
I probably might be wasting my time by giving you this attention because you may never read this and instead jump to make another post in order to prove your insolence once more by trying to be a critic but this is not only for you but for many of YOU out there

Now run along child.... Mama is calling.
Lol! I refuse to trade words or throw jabs at you. Check what have written very well and you would see have never undermine your efforts. Also, i asked those questions to further satisfy the burning curiosity shared, like many readers here to unravel some grey areas in the write up.

Like many have said before me, no one is beyond questioning... It says more about the writer beyond the woven letters. But rather than address that, you carefully threw caution into the air to attarck the personality and became highly vilified.

And for your last phrase, "Run along child". Whatever that means! would have love to reply back in same manner, but once again, i would also maintain my decorum. It's the best thing to do in a faceless group like this, cos you don't even know me, neither do i. I Would only advice you to be privy of the way you address people, and like i said early, it's says alot about who you are beyond what ever you might have passed.

Enjoy your self!

First time of making a comment on your thread! OP nawa ooo... I know u may not likely respond but like seriously, am forced to ask these questions;

1. How are u paying your school fees?
2. Are u an Only child?
3. Thought you said your fervent with church works, what is the fellowship role, cos i know they help in little ways.
4. Have never heard students now look for girls to cook for them in exchange for money like a service. Cos many students sef never bellefull.

Anyway sha the i know this is an "aroso" descriptive essay converted to Nairaland series for our darling pleasure. You try well well. In addition, i also noticed your story portrayed an "Eastern University" with names like chuks, Andy, ikechukwu and rose. but the last episode with exclamation of "Jesu"is more of a Yoruba girl.. I dey gbadun you nonetheless sha! continue the tori.

Based on our discussion with the DG, all Muslim corps members are hereby informed that; White Hijabs which is up to the knee level and three quarter trousers are now accepted by NYSC pending the time the security challenges in the country will be totally eradicated, it’s very difficult to compromise our religious conventions to this extent by accepting to use Hijabs which are not up to the feet or ankle level however the DG pleaded we accept his offers in order to prevent any security threat. In addition , the DG also promised to send directives to all the NYSC staffs.

Hence, Kindly report any military or NYSC personal to your MCAN state Amir if you are harassed or ordered to take off your hijab, provided it’s around the knee level. In Sha Allah, we shall communicate further information to you shortly. As we await an official communication to this effect. Thus, we enjoy you to stay calm. We advise all Corps Members to submit to security checks, be respectful, obedient, tolerant, prayerful and above all, report any provoking issue(s) to the rightful bodies in order to prevent any form of regrettable violence.

Kindly disregard all the misleading and false information from media houses. Get a first-hand information from MCAN in regards to Muslim corps members’ affairs.

Furthermore, we enjoy all media houses to deploy investigative journalism before passing out information, as passing of wrong information of this nature can turn the country into total mess. We also use this medium to call the attention of the Ministry of Information to control the flow of unprofessional and misleading News.

Special Appreciations to;The NYSC Director General : Brigadier General Johnson Olawunmi, NSCIA ,
The Muslim Youth League in Da’awah, MSSN,MURIC, FOMWAN, CRITERION, Other Islamic Bodies, Individuals and Sisters’ Organisations who showed support through Calls , messages and media campaigns.
