Does it affect those with appointment dates before the ban.
Yes, if your date falls after the 21st of January.

How did you come about this info. Can you point to the article where you read this?

Because I have been looking for clarification myself
That's my interpretation of the articles- ''the CONSULAR OFFICER is allowed to mandate refundable bonds of up to $15,000 for certain biz and tourist visa with APPLICANTS from countries with high visa overstay rates of deficient screening processes".
The reference to Consular officers and applicants imply that this refers to fresh applicants and not those who already have their visas.

Have you guys seen the news? New visa issues are still happening but to enter the USA, you will post a refundable bond of up to $15k as a Nigerian
this is for Fresh applicants

I will advise you apply for 2yrs, 5yrs or 10yrs not 6months. but to be on the safe side you can do 2 or 5yrs. This is what i did, my last visit to the UK was in 2013 on a 2yr visa. I re applied in Nov 2025 for a 2yr visa and it was approved

Thank you in advance...
This happened to a senior colleague of mine. they were asked to schedule a physical appointment date without having to pay a new visa fee. He needs to log into his AVITS profile to confirm how many reschedule options are available to him.

Goodday All,

Please my elderly aunt's passport was returned after a interview waiver application with instruction for her to schedule a 221g follow up appointment.
Please how do I schedule this for her? I'll appreciate if someone can explain how to.
My friend did a walk in to the Embassy and was told to come back on a Thursday at 1pm. She did and was given an interview date.

Hi guys, after waiting since April 3rd my status changed to refused this afternoon. Can anyone give me any advise on how to go about this? I am guessing that I would have to go for a physical interview. If anyone can tell me the timeline it took for them to go for an interview after seeing this refused status. Did they return your passport or hold on to it? Did it take a week or two weeks? Did they call or email? Any info will be appreciated. Also submitted in Lagos.
It might not be an outright refusal, it might be a request for a follow up physical interview e.g 221g. Pls dont be in a rush to pay another visa fee, until you have collected your passport and are able to decipher exactly what kind of refusal it is.

Yes. This is what I did for my mom, I filled and submitted another one the night before her dropbox interview and she was issued her visa.

Should I just fill out another DS160 form and take it to the embassy?, since the information is different?

All scheduled interviews still suffice, same for those who have dropped already. New drop box interviews cannot be scheduled for now.

Hello I am a Lawyer and thought to chip in. Your letter is well drafted however please re-draft this sentence
FROM-
I plan to visit the UK from 02/2025 to 07/2025 (this implies you want to stay from February to July not six days), spending a total of six days. My brother will provide accommodation during my stay, and I have budgeted £2,000 to cover the costs of flights, feeding, and transport.

TO-
I plan to visit the UK from the 2nd of ........2025 to the 7th of ............... 2025, spending a total of six days. My brother will provide accommodation during my stay, and I have budgeted £2,000 to cover the costs of flights, feeding, and transport.

Gd0007:
Dear all,

Any advice on this cover letter below:

Re: Application for a 6-Month UK Visitor Visa

I am writing to support my application for a UK visitor visa to attend the graduation ceremony of my brother, Adiss ABC, who is graduating from Ola University on 06/06/2025. He has formally invited me to witness this significant milestone in his academic journey.

I plan to visit the UK from 02/2025 to 07/2025, spending a total of six days. My brother will provide accommodation during my stay, and I have budgeted £2,000 to cover the costs of flights, feeding, and transport.

Background and Financial Capacity
My name is Tunde Ade, a Nigerian citizen with permanent residency in South Africa. I previously resided in South Africa, where I established a business and traveled extensively, including visits to Poland, Germany (twice in 2009 and 2010), and the UK in 2010, Twice to UAE in 2019. I returned to Nigeria in 2016 to focus on my business, Doyin Nigeria Limited, which specializes in xcy production.

I currently earn ₦1,000,000 monthly as a salary from my business. Additionally, I have diversified my income streams:

I own a student rental accommodation property with 48 self-contained rooms, generating an annual income of ₦12,800,000. The rental income is paid into my junior brother's bank account, as he oversees the management of the property. His banking details will be provided as supporting evidence.

I operate a mini supermarket managed by my younger sister, providing me with a monthly profit of ₦300,000.

Previously, I established a business in the UAE called Zo Trading, which focused on exporting produce and African stuff. My younger sister managed this business until it was closed in 2021 due to low patronage.

Additionally, I have sold 10 acres out of 50 acres of my lands, and the payments were made directly into my account. This has accumulated to the balance I currently have. I have attached receipts for the land sales as evidence.

These ventures ensure I have a stable and substantial income, enabling me to comfortably fund my short trip to the UK without financial strain.

Travel History and UK Visa Experience
I have a robust travel history, including previous visits to Europe,UAE and the UK. Although my initial UK visa application in Nigeria was refused, the decision was overturned upon review, and I was granted a visa (Visa Number: 7377). Unfortunately, due to pressing business commitments, I could not use the visa before it expired.

Purpose of Visit and Return Commitment
This trip is solely for the purpose of attending my brother's graduation. I have no intention of overstaying my visa or seeking employment in the UK. My thriving businesses, substantial financial obligations, and my family including my wife and three children, aged 10,6,3, ensure my strong ties to Nigeria and guarantee my return after the visit.

To support my application, I have attached the following documents:

Invitation letter from my brother

Proof of accommodation

Financial statements showing available funds

Evidence of business ownership and income (e.g., business registration documents, Instagram adverts, Google my business location, rental income receipts)

Copies of previous visas and travel history

Land sales receipts

Thank you for considering my application. I am committed to complying with all UK immigration laws and look forward to the opportunity to visit your country briefly.

Yours sincerely,
Tunde Ade

I hope this stands as a cover letter/introduction and if there is anything I need to correct or included I would appreciate any comments or contributions.

So you are on pre-approval now on the AVITS portal or you already booked appointment?
My own payment was successful as well; the receipt says so and the AVITS support guys. They just said I need to wait for the system to process it. In your own case, what is your status on the portal right now?
When I logged in, it took me straight to the appointment page and I picked a date.

this is for IMMIGRANTS ONLY, not non-immigrants or visitors. Please check the US website for the correct information.

US embassy issues fresh directive for visa applicants
https://guardian.ng/news/us-embassy-issues-fresh-directive-for-visa-applicants/

The United States Embassy has advised visa applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during their immigration visa
process.

The US Embassy announced this directive on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, stating:

“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.

“This new process is designed to help you prepare for your visa interview and to prevent significant delays in processing your immigrant visa.”

Additional information from its website, as seen by The Guardian, states that the first visit to the US Consulate in Lagos is for an In-Person Document Review with a consular staff member. This review ensures that applicants are prepared for their visa interviews.

According to the US Embassy, the review allows applicants to retrieve any missing documents ahead of their visa interviews, helping to avoid delays in application processing.

The second interview, on the other hand, is with a Consular Officer. The date for this interview will be scheduled for applicants by the National Visa Center (NVC).

“If you do not complete the In-Person Document Review before your visa interview, you will be required to reschedule your appointment,” the US Embassy added.

As you clicked on any date, it will show you the available time.. stroll up your page or stroll it down... It will show different times available and you choose one. It has happened to me before infact I was so frustrated that day.

Not working for me! Tried everything but i cant pick dates in Lagos, only Abuja. Is it by force to go to Abuja?

quote author=Oluwsaseyepaul post=133217557]Hello everyone, Thank you for your continual help here. I have a question, please.
I tried scheduling a date from available dates but anytime I click on the green dates which I believe are the available ones, it doesn't move past the page. It just loads and no changes. It does that for any date I select. Am I missing something or is there an AVITS glitch? Please help!

So have you been able to book appointment now?
A first bank transfer I made on Friday was unsuccessful, but by the time I logged in on Monday (yesterday) the payment was reflecting on the profile. The bank advised me to give it 24 hours and it worked.
