PoliticsNorthern Nigeria And The 2031 Presidential Prospects: A Factual Analysis by mideactive(op): 11:37am On Jan 03
As discussions about Nigeria’s future leadership intensify, it is worth examining who among the younger Northern political figures may realistically rise to the presidency in 2031. This analysis focuses on competence, governance experience, national exposure, and long-term leadership potential, without sentiment or hype.

1. Kashim Shettima
Currently Nigeria’s Vice President, Shettima stands out for his unmatched structural positioning. He has governed Borno State, served as Senator, and now holds the federal executive office. These experiences give him national exposure in security, economic management, and diplomacy. In Nigeria’s political system, proximity to federal power is a critical factor for presidential viability.

2. Babagana Umara Zulum

Governor of Borno State, Zulum is widely recognized as one of Nigeria’s most effective governors, especially given the extreme challenges of insurgency and humanitarian crises in his state. His technocratic background and disciplined execution style reflect in his governance record. While he still needs broader national political structures, his competence under pressure sets him apart.

3. Uba Sani

Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani represents forward-looking leadership potential. His emphasis on inclusion, reconciliation, and calm governance positions him well for future national leadership. Though still early in his tenure and less known nationally, his trajectory suggests strong long-term potential.

4. Nuhu Ribadu

Known for his anti-corruption work as the former EFCC Chairman and current National Security Adviser, Ribadu offers institutional credibility and security expertise. While highly respected, his limited electoral base and absence of executive electoral experience constrain his viability as a presidential candidate.

5. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

A former governor, senator, and presidential candidate, Kwankwaso wields considerable regional influence and political experience. However, his national appeal has been limited in recent elections, and by 2031 he will belong more to the elder statesman cohort than the emerging generation of leaders.

When considering the younger generation of Northern leaders:

Shettima is best positioned structurally and nationally.

Zulum leads in competence and crisis leadership.

Uba Sani has the cleanest trajectory for future national leadership.

Ribadu remains a figure of integrity and institutional strength.

Kwankwaso maintains regional influence but is less central to the 2031 presidential contest.

This analysis highlights that 2031 will favor leaders who combine experience, competence, and coalition-building, not just popularity or loud politics. Among these, Uba Sani stands out as a leader to watch, reflecting the potential of the next generation.

Pacesetter123:
Bad as you said he was in terms of human rights abuse,he was the best in securing the nation against any external aggression and internal insurrection.
Who born terrorists to walk majestically into a school and pack 300 students and matched out as if they students were doing match pass in the stadium for 27th May day celebration?
You matched them out unchallenged into a territory you carved out of Nigeria and ruled and still demand for ransom as we are witnessing under democratic rules?
And most importantly, there was no part of Nigeria territory that was allowed to be ceded to another country under his watch as compared to what the democratic rulers did in ceding the oil rich Bakasi Peninsula to France in the name of cameroun.
Remember, that was people ancestral land and today,as I speak to you, those people are now strangers in their father's land in another man's country undergoing the kind of torture and human rights abuse that even you wouldn't wished to be visited upon your worst enemies.
A territory that Abacha was fighting for so fiercely and has already succeeded in reclaiming and securing it for the citizens and businesses was booming to boost marine and blue economy to Nigeria state.
Ask OBJ and Atiku why it was given out to cameroun on a plater of gold.
So,in any forum that I am,be it online or real time,I won't fold my hands to see him being demonize in all ramifications without me defending him in at least one or two areas that he was good at.
If you say human rights abuse,I will agree with you but if you say he was totally bad in all aspects of governance,I will not agree with you.
So sorry I'm just responding. I'm not sure you experienced the Abacha erra. No one prays for such ever again. There's absolutely no future for Nigeria with the military, you need to understand that. When insurgency is a thing with a particular region, it important to ask this question; what exactly do they want? I know they know the answer to that. What if it's what the rest of us cannot give, tell me which president can solve that?

The only thing that can stop Mr president from reelection is death (God forbid). Peter Obi know this. He's only preparing his followers for an inevitable friendship with the president when the time comes. I think Mr president has done way more than any of his predecessor dead or alive, it takes balls to do what Mr president has done. Wealth building takes time even for an individual. We're talking of a nation with large and very diverse people. No magic jare.

It easy to say stuffs. Nigeria has a lot of poor people based on record. Can we the poor Nigerians actually pay for electricity? The purpose of energy is for productivity that should bring comfort. A lot of us are actually not productive or planning to be productive. It'll be smart to push for transparency in electricity consumption. Let's pay only for what we consume. The very day Mushin is upgraded to to the standard of Ikoyi, Mushin becomes inaccessible to the poor. Let's think and stop all this over emotional way solving real problem.

PoliticsLocal Government Autonomy. by mideactive(op): 8:10am On Aug 11, 2024
Another great one from this government is local government autonomy!!

The major negativity that the present government brings is hunger. Hunger can easy crumble a nation if not well managed. If the people must pass through this horrifying stage to success, the government must show solidarity to the people, and sincerity with it's policies. It's wrong to spend lavishly on little or less important things and expect the people to starve.

However, my focus is on the positivity of local government freedom. Yes, it's expected to stagger at first but, the long term benefits is so enormous. Obviously, development will get to the grass root where it's actually needed.

One good news about this is the rural-urban development, which will help reduce rural-urban migration. Yes, rural-urban migration is a big problem that can only be tackled through a free local government system.

A lot of people will find our cities less attractive if good schools, hospitals, roads, good water and basic necessities can be accessed locally. We all know our governors mostly think about the state capital and, give very little or no attention to our localities.

The government can leverage on this, to improve security and food production from our localities.
In fact, a lot of our troubles can be solved from the grass roots. We need to ensure laws that can make our local government stronger and better. This is a systemic change that can positively change the nation at large, it's way above a regional thing.

The governors will push back, they'll use the challenges facing the federal government to rally the people against this wonder stride. Hopefully, the federal government can stand it's grounds and overcome.
PoliticsOn The Student Loan And Consumers Credit. by mideactive(op): 5:17am On Aug 11, 2024
I most confess, these are great ideas that can transform the face of Nigeria if well nurtured and managed. Ideas like this made the old western region standout. The student loan, if well handled should increase the quality of our tertiary institutions. More people will go to school, schools will have more funds, which can greatly enhance the quality of our tertiary education. The truth is, quality education don't come cheap. I only hope our eduction managers make good use of this opportunity to improve our schools. Parents will also be free from the burden of school fees, not a bad idea at all. The government at various levels needs to improve the standard of Secondary, primary and technical education. We cannot afford to have quality in our tertiary institutions, and lower foundational quality.

The consumers credit is also a master stroke. Those earning can buy and spread payments over a long time. Of course, it's takes time for every new initiative to become stable. It's expected to have hiccups, which can be stabilized with time and a lot of patience. For this idea to work well, the government needs to work very hard on increased productivity and, mostly the value of our naira. Government can only give credit to a very small percentage of our population, which means private players most key in. This cannot happen with a weak naira, productivity must be greatly enhanced to improve our naira. The money we carry around sounds huge but, the actually value is worth very little. How can somebody earning seventy thousand naira afford a deduction from his pay to service credit. We all know a lager percentage of Nigerians earn way lower than that 70k.
Roundly, I believe both ideas can work. Though, a lot needs to be done for it to work.

Lastly, if Mr president leaves office in fours years, what's the guarantee that someone else will continue with his ideas? It's reminds me of how the beneficiaries of Awo's free education killed free and quality education. Consistency is very important, if both ideas is to attain its long term benefits.

A Tinubu government was a dream come true for so many that believed in him. It's hard not to believe or expect something extraordinary, based on his past as the formal Lagos state governor. We know we must make sacrifices, but, how much sacrifice are they making? I don't seams to see a bright future under Tinubu, I have learnt from the past. He thinks only money, not warfare of the people. You don't kill the people you want to feed in the name of building a nation! How much hunger can he and his family endure if they're not in a position of affluence? It's either he can solve the problem or not. For me, a year his all he has to show he can fix things. It's shows he's out to milk, not to grow.

It obvious that most of are quick to say rubbish or react than think… why do you think a civil servant will want to steal or allow steal if he can access credit to get his basic needs. He gave an instant. You want to buy a car of 8million you know you can’t afford it at once but you need it. If you can access credit to own the car, Problem solved but if not you may want to look of other means to get the car. How else if not with corruption or corrupt practices. You are unemployed and you have a business idea but no credit facilities to start the business, pls won’t you look for other means to survive? Pay tax on properties is another angle. Why build houses everywhere, buy cars parked in garage when you don’t even need them? When people start paying taxes for some of this things they will understand you only buy what you need. He give this solution because by the time you increase taxes you give people the will to want to default which is corrupt. So reduce taxes and widen the the tax net. Simple economic.

The voucher can be tied down to massive investment, investment withing the community. The can invest massively in mechanized farming and adding value to the raw farm produce. Raw produce should not be allowed to be sold out,it should be converted I to finished goods. The issues of buying items that cannot be produced in the community can be checked and balanced. If well handled, the voucher might even turn out stronger than the naira. Anything is possible,we just need to think of the problem and solutions.

Software Engineering is not all about code...for you to be an engineer at least with a degree, you'll need to get a degree in any of the STEM courses, that's just the fact anywhere in the world...

As far as degree is concerned there's no relationship between social science and software engineering, you can be self-taught but if you talking of degrees, social science/art doesn't cut it...even a pure maths degree is under sciences in the University
Crossing over is very possible in advanced countries,I know some instance of such instance like that. I still maintain that, software engineering is not about science alone. The system just have the mentality that a social science student cannot cope, this is very wrong. I know lots of social science students doing very well in this field.

I'm Nigerian trained living in Nigeria. And NONE of my university training prepared me for my current role, but my Nigerian degree was very influential in getting me the role. Only lazy people hide under the excuse that our syllabus is old. Even our old syllabus that teaches Fortran is vary valuable for remote Fortran programming role in Scientific remote openings. Stop being lazy would be my candid advice to you. A computer science degree even with an antiquated syllabus is valuable.

You talk of Computer Science grads that "seams" useless. Do you know how many Economic ls grads are the same level of "useless". Or Drs? Or Mechanical engineers?
Anyway,I don't see the need for knowledge that cannot be applied,a knowledge that's just for the sake of having a certificate. I don't know if your boss can code too,if yes, isn't that better that he actually went straight for his dreams? He saw no need for unnecessary waste, will you then call him lazy for doing so. My brother, paying turion fee in this country no be joke o. The point is, as a social science student,if I can deal with software engineering why not,why must I go and write waec and jamb again since I can do it. This is what advance countries offers that we lack.

I haven't done a detailed check but just a cursory check lists Oxford University as requiring mathematics AND further mathematics (which is even more ruthless than physics) at A-level. Most require A-level Mathematics and Computer Science which is not even available in our local syllabus. I will come back to you with one non-Nigerian University that requires physics. And what did our Universities do to computer science? Flutterwave and Paystack are products of local Universities. Or you think a Computer Science University degree prepares you for work anywhere?

For electronics Engineering it's a norm, most school I have check for software don't require it. We sure have lots of products from our university system making waves in the area of technology. The question is,did they actually aquire these knowledge from our universities. You know the huge resources, time and energy put it studying computer science. If you say it doesn't set you up for employment, what's the need then. Cus, I know lots of computer science graduates that seams useless.

You don't "develop" your mathematics skill when learning Software Engineering. You apply them. Any student that is good in Mathematics would of a necessity be good in Physics so I don't see why you are dodging physics on the claim that Commerce or Business subjects also have mathematics. They don't! Not at the same type of rigour. And it is really insulting and shows how poorly you have researched Software Engineering for you to say "it is not like other engineering"
It's not about dodging physics, if physics is must I'll do it. As you say,the purpose of physics in software engineering is to boast brain power not because it is applicable to field itself. Software is in stages, the deeper you go the more you adapt. It's all about interest and commitment. Remember what our uni system have done to computer science? I pray they don't do the same to software engineering with unnecessary bottle-necks. You're yet to show me a uni asides Nigeria unis that makes physics a must.

An engineering student of any field must possess high maths skills and demonstrate they can apply those skills to solve real life problems (hence sciences) chemistry might be an overeach but physics is a must. And a lot of US universities also require sciences for software engineering
Please, asides from Nigerian Universities, can you show me other institutions where physics is made a must for software around the word? Your argument for the need for physics is because of hight maths skills, what makes you think one cannot develop hight maths skill when deep into software engineering. Besides, the Engineering part doesn't make it the same as other Engineering fields. We have a lot of business and commerce related problems that can be solved using this field of study too.

Do you really think you can be a software engineer without a robust grounding in science (maths and physics specifically)? To study engineering you'd need to know Calculus I & II, Ordinary Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, Discrete Mathematics. At the end of the day Software Engineering IS an engineering discipline. It differs from programming which is a subset of SE
All you've mentioned up their are still mathematics, they are advanced though. That doesn't mean someone with a mind to be a software engineer cannot handle it. The brain develops and increases in capacity as you learn more and more of coding. I still don't see why it should be all science, it's not so in other countries.
