Celebrities / Serena Williams & Husband Alexis Ohanian Couple Up For Brand Genius Awards 2018 by Mijolnir(m): 4:01pm On Nov 08, 2018
NEW YORK, NY – NOVEMBER 07: Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian attend the 2018 Brand Genius Awards at Cipriani 25 Broadway on November 7, 2018 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/Getty Images).
Tennis player Serena Williams was recently named as a Brand Visionary by Adweek and last night she stepped out in style for the 2018 Adweek’s Brand Genius Awards which held on Wednesday night (November 7) at Cipriani in New York City.
She was supported by her husband Alexis Ohanian and during the event, she was presented the award by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.
Anna Wintour gave a touching tribute on stage:
When I first met Serena Williams, she was a tennis champion of unbelievable perseverance. Now, at 37, she is still a tennis champion of unbelievable persistence and power—also, a wife and a mother and a role model for millions of women. Because she’s always out in front, she’s often the first to be jumped on in moments of tension, as we saw during the U.S. Open. What made me the most proud in that moment was the way Serena celebrated the victory of Naomi Osaka, a young player who grew up in awe of Serena. It was a win larger than the match. She has always been a No. 1 tennis player. But in the year of Serena, and with this award tonight, we celebrate an even more impressive feat: becoming a woman far greater than her multitude of victories.

So not recently, i started blogging on www.blogger.com. I created my blog, designed it and kick-started it. After a while, I decided to apply for
Google Adsense and I was told to sign up with my Google account which I did. Then I was told to wait for about 48 hours or less to receive a
feedback. It's been over three days now but i am still yet to get any reply from them.
I really don't know what to do now, as I am confused.
Pls for those that are into blogging, what are your experiences?, has anyone encountered this before and how did you go about it?
Pls I really need your comments.

Politics / BREAKING NEWS: Labour Calls Off Strike! by Mijolnir(m): 1:09am On Nov 06, 2018
The organized labour has suspended planned strike After prolonged argument, Vanguard gathered that the Tripartite Committee set up by the Federal Government agreed on N30,000 new minimum wage.
At the end of the first meeting of the tripartite committee set up to arrive at an agreeable minimum wage template, Chairperson of the committee and former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Ms Ama People had said while the federal government insisted on N24,000, organized labour maintained its earlier stance of N30, 000. She however said the government pleaded with labour to call off its planned strike “We have concluded and we have a little challenge with what we call Chapter 5 of our report, that is where we have the numbers and the figures we used for the negotiations and the figures that we concluded with and the committee has two figures: the N24, 000 suggested by the federal government and the N30, 000 given by the organized labour. “There is no stalemate. We have finished and we have signed it but we are insisting that the strike must be called off. There are still two figures, N24, 000 and N34, 000. You know that labour came up with a figure of N66, 500 but when we put all that together with the figure we got from the states…so, we put all that in a basket plus the initial figure that the federal government recommended which was N20, 700. We put them together in a basket and came up with four scenarios, we worked with one of the scenarios and that was how we agreed on that N24, 000 and N30, 000 respectively”, said Ms People. Asked on what the committee was going to submit, she said both figures would be forwarded to the president. On his part, Labour and Employment minister, Chris Ngige said the committee was working to secure an appointment with President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that its resolution would be passed to the Federal Executive Council, then the National Economic Council and later the National Council of State after which the president would initiate an Executive Bill to be transmitted yo the National Assembly. He said; “We are making progress. The governors’ figure should be the figure of the federal government. We are just trying to carry them along. That is why we made the discussions ‘tripartite plus’. It is just because we want to carry them along, otherwise the federal government speaks for governments. Yes, the figures are standing but we know that there are other processes. It has to go through the Federal Executive Council, the National Executive Council and the National Council of State, then an Executive Bill will be transmitted to the National Assembly”. Asked if the two figures would pass through those processes, he said; “Yes, because the federal government figure is noted and is also weighty because it says that it depends on the ability to pay, affordability and sustainability. “Labour are quiet satisfied, we are doing the needful, we have passed the rubicon. The only aspect of it now that we need to do is to fix an appointment for the handing over of the report to Mr President. We are reconvening tonight because that appointment has to be gotten because the president has gone home. He is not just sitting down in the office. If we get the appointment now, we will reconvene later and agree on how to proceed. “The governors have no choice now because they have attached themselves to us because we are the supreme sovereign, they are minor sovereigns”, he added. On whether the strike would go on as planned on Tuesday, he said, “no”, referring all enquiries to labour leaders. All the labour leaders at the meeting however declined media enquiries, saying they were on break and the meeting would reconvene later tonight.

Crime / Mexican Drug Lord ‘el Chapo’ Trial Approaches by Mijolnir(m): 4:20pm On Nov 05, 2018
The almost-mythical criminal pedigree of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who was extradited in 2017 to face United States drug conspiracy charges, has sparked security concerns at his upcoming New York City trial that at times have drawn as much attention as the case’s sensational allegations.
He is accused of having a hand in dozens of murders, of using his drug cartel to smuggle more than 200 tons of cocaine into the United States, even pulling off running the massive operation from behind bars. That’s when he wasn’t busy escaping from jail twice.
A look at those concerns for a trial that is starting Monday with jury selection. Opening statements are likely November 13 MSN reported.
Prosecutors say Guzman was in the habit of ordering the killings of anyone who got in his way during his heyday in Mexico as boss of the Sinaloa cartel.
In his way now is a lineup of government witnesses who survived the wave of violence and are expected to give details about the ruthless way he kept power for 20 years in the cutthroat world of international drug trafficking. The defense says the witnesses are the true bad guys whose testimony shouldn’t be trusted.
The names of the witnesses have been blacked out on court documents with prosecutors saying their identities need to be protected because their cooperation could put them in the crosshairs of a vengeful cartel. According to court papers, some are being held in special jail units for their protection, while others are in witness protection programs.
The list of people who could turn up on the witness stand is long. Two standout possibilities are twin brothers Pedro and Margarito Flores, former Chicago-based narcotics wholesalers who did business with Guzman before their arrest in 2008. They agreed to cooperate and record phone conversations with Guzman about the size of shipments smuggled on boats and airplanes.
In one, a voice identified as Guzman’s asks, “How much can you get rid of in a month?”
The now-imprisoned brothers paid a steep price for flipping: Prosecutors say in 2009 their father was murdered in Mexico by a cartel hit team.
t pretrial hearings leading to the trial, heavily armed federal officers and bomb-sniffing dogs patrolled outside. Anyone trying to attend the hearings was put through airport-style metal detectors at the courthouse entrance and at the door of the courtroom itself.
The judge also agreed with prosecutors that the jury for the case should be kept anonymous, a measure typical in terrorism or mob cases where jury intimidation is a concern.
No one’s hiding the ominous nature of the case from potential jurors. Questions for them on an initial screening form ask if they’ve ever heard of “El Chapo” along with, “Have you, or has anyone close to you, ever felt fearful of or threatened by people who you thought were associated with drug crimes?”
Jurors also will be escorted to and from the courthouse by federal officers and sequestered from the public while inside. As a reason, the judge cited prosecutors’ contention that Guzman’s cartel “employs ‘sicarios,’ or hit men, who carried out hundreds of acts of violence, including murders, assaults and kidnappings.”
After Guzman was brought to New York, authorities here decided he should be housed in solitary confinement in a high-security wing of a federal jail in Manhattan that has held notorious terrorists and mobsters.
Central to that calculation was Guzman’s history of giving directions to his lieutenants from Mexican jails and credentials as a two-time escapee there. The second time was via a mile-long (1.6 kilometer-long) tunnel dug to the shower in his cell.
The logistical problem for his keepers: The case is being prosecuted across the East River in federal court in Brooklyn.
For pre-trial hearings, authorities opted to transport him to and from jail by shutting down the Brooklyn Bridge to make way for a police motorcade that included a SWAT team and an ambulance, all tracked by helicopters.
Pls move to front page.

Religion / IPOB Members Disrupt Church Service In Abia by Mijolnir(m): 11:35pm On Nov 01, 2018
There was pandemonium at Christ the King Cathedral, (CKC) in Aba, Abia state today after members of the proscribed secessionist group, Indigenious People of Biafra IPOB, disrupted church proceedings following the priest's call for the church members to pray for a peaceful 2019 general elections.
The IPOB members who appear to have regained strength since the emergence of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu in Israel two weeks ago, stopped the priest from further preaching.
They began singing their Biafran songs, waving the Biafran flag and insisted that there would be no election in the South East until a referendum is conducted for the region to break away from Nigeria to form Biafra.
