BusinessRe: Why Do Countries Actually Go Broke? by mikedanza(m): 7:46pm On Jul 29, 2014
seagulsntrawler: Nice write up you've got there. If i may ask, why does Nigeria go looking for funds to borrow when it has a foriegn reserve of over 50billion usd? I know d funds are held in form of soveriegn countries debt bonds but why not call them up to finance projects?
You are required by international trading practices to hold, in reserve, a minimum of 6 months worth of expected imports in FOREX. This will convince your trading partners that you are good for payments as the money is already on ground (letters of credit comes to mind). Holding less than six months spells trouble, holding a longer period shows a robust economy.

The higher the reserve the more you are valued as a trading partner and hence your currency appreciates (remember China was almost forced to appreciate its currency after holding over 1trillion dollars in US bonds).

That's why Nigeria will not want to touch the foreign reserve but rather borrow cheaply at international debt markets in order to finance infrastructure or consumption.

Thanks.
BusinessRe: Why Do Countries Actually Go Broke? by mikedanza(m): 8:52am On Jul 29, 2014
Your currency is influenced by several factors

1. Amount of output in the form of GDP and relative comparative advantage ( stuff you can produce better than others). Some of which you will consume and/or sell to other countries (export)

2. What other countries feel is the value of your currency based on some of the other listed options

3. Stability of your Government and Economy (they are sure you won't overthrow tomorrow via a coup or wake up overnight and Nationalize foreign investments, or change interest rates etc)

4. Amount of stuff you require from other countries/bodies which you cannot produce yourself (imports)

Let's give a Layman's scenario in the light of the above.

Assuming this government prints lots if naira (NGN) and shares 100 million for each citizen.

At the current rate of prices of goods in the market, on a first come first served basis a few thousand people will buy up most of the land in each state. Goods and services will be bought up in the same manner with millions of people having money in their pocket with nothing to buy.

Next thing is if you wish to buy a piece of land that used to cost 10 million, you might be ready to cough out as much as 3 times the amount for the owner to feel tempted to sell to you because he knows he can't get it at the same price he bought it at first ( due to scarcity occasioned by high demand as everyone has too much money now). This same pattern will affect all sectors and drive up prices leading to what we call INFLATION (plenty money chasing too little goods/services)

Taking it to the import /export level......

Nigerians now have lots of money and will want to import cars and luxury items from the United States. Assuming you must convert to USD.

Your currency is as strong as the sum total of your output (GDP).

If they finish accepting your NGN and come over to spend it in buying Crude and they discover the entire Crude you own is less than the amount of NGN you have spent in their country buying cars, a trade deficit sets in. They will no longer accept your NGN again and they will promptly tell you to make purchases henceforth using their own current.

The only way to raise the USD will be to sell crude. and the amount of crude you produce per day is just over 2 million barrels. But you want to buy cars worth 20 million barrels cos you printed more money.

Every country will now increase the number of NGN they will collect from you in exchange for their own USD. AND YOUR CURRENCY BECOMES LIKE THAT OF ZIMBABWE!!!

Therefore part of the difficult jobs of Central Banks and Ministries of Finance is to find out where this fluid balance is between Output, Consumption and the amount of currencies/instruments to print/generate via fiscal (Quantitative Easing, Budgetary spending, debts etc) and monetary (interest rates, cash reserve ratios for banks, inter bank etc) policies!

CareerRe: I Want To Quit My Banking Job by mikedanza(m): 8:14pm On Jul 14, 2014
I used to work in a bank too. The monotony, drudgery and military like seniority can be killing. Its sedentary nature too does not help the health and development of the mind. Targets can subdue you if you work in marketing.

But on the flip side. ..

It sure pays the bill (banking is one of the few well paid occupations in Nigeria besides oil and gas),

you also get to meet people which is good for networking,

you can get bulk parts of your salary as upfront (if your bank does that) which you can use to start a business, make sure it picks before u consider leaving

you can easily get consumer loans as a staff

you come in contact with different business plans for people wanting to take loans ( you can see some ideas you might be able to replicate...the best ideas are copied and modified...innovation is expensive, risky and untested except you have sufficient capital, capacity and time)

lastly, perhaps you should take a study leave and study abroad in order to see the world and broaden your horizon

But ultimately you must have a backup plan in order to quit jobs in Nigeria. except you work in sensitive areas like IT forensics, Treasury, OR are a marketer who can ALWAYS control your CABAL where u can easily re-enter after a hiatus.

Best of luck!!!

Hello Future....

I see the following thriving....

1. Use of Drone Passenger Jets that do not requires Pilots...they take off, avoid storms and land by remote sensing using indicators on the runway, internal simulated memories of various runways and remote sensing technology.

2. Use of skin embedded microchips for purposes such as mobile telephony, banking transactions and identity protection, but make una remember 666 and wrap up of times things...(I believe you still speak wafi...)

3. Use of rudderless and driver-less cars on streets which make use of sensors attached to the side/middle of the roads and technology in cars to serve as GPS, anti-collision and ABS breaking systems

4. The belief in a Living God is waning badly, there are fewer people who believe in God than those who do not.

But do not be deceived. If you were playing a poker game with a master, would He show his best hand after you have shown your own weakest or after you have shown your best? Your best of course. Technology will make man think he is omnipotent (Gene reconstruction and Gene therapy will be able to heal almost all diseases and remove deleterious traits at birth, you can now re-clone your lost dog or your dead son and super transfuse the old person’s memory which had been ‘stored’...), but the King of Glory will come, and all eyes will see Him, even the dead, we too typing all these!

Proof? All technology exists on the presumed orderliness or reverse engineering in atoms and sub-atoms- electrons, neutrons and others you will discover in the future 'cos YOU WILL- (Wavelengths, electricity, nuclear power, micro chips, trans universal satellite communication systems, genetics, polymers etc). Now remember, laws of Physics suggest anything left unattended to tend towards chaos, but no one attends to the cosmos or atoms or sub-atomic particles, yet they form the most perfect order, and constantly so....so think twice...someone is keeping them in place....GOD!

5. It's fine to be gay now (but God still has not changed His mind about hating it, it’s still SIN, so change!) and families are raised via invitro fertilization, with fetuses donation and surrogate mothering as a new profession for fertile females.

6. Man would seem to be able to do almost everything, travel the world in one day due to supersonic speed limits, visit other planets, begin tertiary plans for moon and mars habitation/evacuation and build houses that float in the air.

7. The occult will step out boldly and introduce nuances which they will call science, since the lines are already blurred; bin-aural beats manipulation in music to possess, telepathy, astral projections, remote mind controlling and necromancy.

CareerRe: How Did You Succeed With Your 2-2 Or 3rd Class? by mikedanza(m): 7:45am On Jul 27, 2013
The real question should be 'How did you fail with your 1st Class and 2.1 and how come there are so many successful persons who never went through the direct school route, or had 2.2 and 3rd Class and are so super successful like Dangote'

1. Do not build a glass ceiling for yourself. Einstein was an average student and Lincoln was a failed politician before he had his break.

2. Your grade is really not a true test of who you are. The most persons who are both academically rounded or socially connected, tend to make better deals out of their lives.

3. Real truth is 1st Class and some 2.1 graduates have only average lives in Nigeria. They were too busy to have a life while in school, they got retained to lecture in their schools and had to continue reading all the way to obtain a Ph.D. and had to continue reading in order to write papers in journals for promotions. Or they got a bank job and felt that was the Zenith in life because of a salary of $1000 dollars a month. What a waiter working in the US at Starbucks earns in two weeks after adding his overtime and tips.

4. The 2.2/3rd Class guy in your class joined politics in school and became the NANS president. He went into life and became the House of Representative from your constituency and even rose to become the speaker of the House at age 35.

5. Truth is, those who scored lower grades tend to be turned away from most job interviews (in short you do not get invited to places like KPMG, Some depts in BATC, NLNG, several banks, etc if you do not have a 2.1 and above) that pushes them into entrepreneurial endeavours in which they tend to succeed if they hold on for at least 5 years (the number of years within which most new businesses fail).

6. I had a 2.1 and went into banking. I was with a branch at Obajana cement complex. The complex had just been opened and 'failed graduates and school drop outs' had come to see what they can make out of this business. Each truck load of 600 bags of cement cost about NGN 700k then. The got the ATCs and sold to wholesalers/retailers/construction firms at about NGN 730 to 760. Some sold up to 10 trucks in a day. Besides the margin in cement, they made margins too on the transportation. And so in one year I saw 'failed graduates' build houses, bought cars and got married, while I sat behind my desk doing oga at the top as a Head of Operations with a salary I used to think was very very very BIG! These boys made my annual pay in a few months. As bankers we are banned from running private businesses and could not join.

Of course the cement business crashed as so many persons later ran into it and the margins all but disappeared, but the 'failed graduates' had made their kill.

Finally, information is power. Forget your degree and open your eyes and ears. Augment with a further degree if need be, but remember when the chips are down it is your networking, integrity, track record, presentation skills and your ability to deliver that sells you. And remember Papa God, I do believe in Him alot and He has be GoooooooooD!
HealthRe: Misconceptions About People Living With Sickle Cell Disease by mikedanza(m): 5:01am On Jul 20, 2013
In Haematology, there is an area of influence called the Malaria Belt...it comprises of Areas around the equator and contiguous parts where mosquitoes thrive. Once a country falls WITHIN that region it is prone to SCD. Most of Africa falls within this region (including its Arab population in the North), South America and the edges of Europe close to Africa. But as expected, persons original to colder regions, where mosquitoes do not thrive have not developed these mutations of the RBCs (Red Blood Cells). So while it is not a 'black man's' disease, Africa sits right smack in the heart of the equator and its warm belly which is conducive for malaria infecting mosquitoes, hence the prevalence of coloured folks with their unfair share of the disease.
Treatment (marrow transplant) is prohibitive, therefore management and particular protection from mosquitoes, stress and stigma can be very helpful. In most cases, blood transfusion gives a more balanced relief and recovery. Remember it is their sickle shaped red blood cells that are not optimally shaped to ATTRACT, RETAIN AND TRANSPORT OXYGEN TO VITAL ORGANS. A TRANSFUSION WILL MAKE NORMAL CELLS READILY AVAILABLE TO CARRY OUT THESE FUNCTIONS.

In MOST CASES ADULT WARRIORS ALREADY KNOW THE REGIMES THAT GIVE THEM INSTANT RELIEF. IT WILL BE WISE TO FOLLOW THEIR SUGGESTIONS WITHIN THE AMBIT OF MEDICAL PRUDENCE.

BusinessRe: Preventing Your Business Name From Being Reallocated By The CAC? by mikedanza(m): 7:54am On Mar 08, 2013
Before you place any blame on CAC kindly understand the rules governing reservation of name.
1. To reserve a name does not imply its yours indefinitely
2. It expires automatically after 30 days....unless....
3. You were supposed to complete the registration process (You buy necessary forms, court signs, all directors/promoters sign, assessment is done, you pay the fees and it is then properly registered)

So what you did, if it was just reservation of name, was not sufficient and what CAC did was not contrary to their existing rules.

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Funded Using Awalla Monetary System? by mikedanza(m): 10:02am On Jul 25, 2011
Tinax:
pls house what is "awalla"
'Hawala' system is a type of informal transfer of money that relies on the honour code to get funds across to receipients without the need for normal documentation or technology. If an organisation in Iran wants to transfer money to Nigeria It MEETS A Hawala dealer in Iran and gives him the money with details of the beneficiary in Nigeria. The Iran dealer calls up a Nigerian dealer with the details. The Nigerian Dealer contacts the beneficiary and pays him. To Settle Payments the Nigerian Dealer waits until he has a Transfer to Iran also, he does the same and the Iranian Dealer effects payment without any actual transfer of money. differences in accounts can be settled by other means other the cash. The Nigerian dealer can ask his Iranian counterpart to import goods for him worth the difference without any actual transfer of money taking place. It is therefore very difficult to trace the origin or beneficiary of funds because no money goes through the banking system and no documentation anywhere. Hope this answers your questions! Thanks.
