GSA DEVOTIONAL STUDY ( 5th October, 2017)

Topic: *The Holy Spirit within: God for us, God with us and God in us*

Text: *John 14: 16,17*

The Holy Spirit has been described as the neglected member of the Godhead, because while many Christians know about God as their loving heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus as their risen Saviour, they do not know much about the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Many Christians are like the twelve men at Ephesus who said, “�We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit”� (Acts 19:2). This theme is sadly neglected; in the New Testament alone He is mentioned scores of times and yet in much preaching and teaching today He is ignored. No wonder the Church is weak and powerless and that the testimony of many Christians is so weak! It is impossible to live and serve the Lord effectively without relying on the Holy Spirit’s power, the One who lives within us. First of all we must emphasise three fundamental truths:

1. *The Holy Spirit is a Person*. He is divine (Acts 5:3-4); He is the third Person in the Trinity (Matthew 3:16-17). Read John chapters 14, 15 and 16, and notice all the references to the Holy Spirit in which He is clearly presented as a Person, one with the Father and with Christ Himself.

2. *The Holy Spirit indwells every Christian.* This is clearly taught in Scripture �- compare John 14:16-17; Romans 5:5; Romans 8:8-9; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 1 Thessalonians 4:8. In these references the Holy Spirit is said to dwell �’in’� the Christian. He has been ‘�given’� to the Christian. The Christian �’has’� the Holy Spirit.

3. *The Holy Spirit indwells the Christian as the executive of the Godhead*, meaning that He is the member of the Godhead who is today active in the life of the Christian. He lives within the Christian to make real in him all that God the Father has planned and all that God the Son has made possible.

The divine standard that God has set for Christian living and service is so high that it is impossible to reach that standard without the enabling ministry of the Holy Spirit. Human ability and human genius are quite inadequate; thus the Person of the Holy Spirit has made His residence in the life of every Christian in order to do �- what? What is His ministry? Let us take a bird’s-eye view of some of the things He does in the life of a Christian.

*God For us*
1. Comfort us : Romans 8:32

2. Quickens and succour us : We are to live by faith (Romans 1:17; Hebrews 11:6). Therefore the Devil attacks our faith (Luke 22:31-32). We are subject to many trials and testings, overwhelmed by sorrow, but the Holy Spirit is within us to succour us at such times. Read 1 Peter 4:14, and see it illustrated in the record of Stephen in Acts 7:54-60. Also read Galatians 5:16 and Ephesians 5:18.

*God with us*
1. *Convict of sin and Righteousness*
2. *To teach us and guide us*: See what Jesus said in John 14:26, and compare John 15:26 and 1 John 2:20. His Holy Spirit teaches us all that we need to know concerning our walk and our work, what we are and what we are to do. How wonderful to have the divine Teacher instructing and guiding us into the truth, in order to please the Lord. *He is the Source of the Christian's knowledge*
3. *To lead us* ( Romans 8: 14):

*God IN us*
1. *To Sanctify us*( Titus 15:8,9)
2. *To renew us* ( Titus 3:5)
3. *He is the *sap*of the Christian ’s life*: How do I become a Christian? �- by being born again (John 3:3,5). Whose work is it that produces the new birth? The Holy Spirit�’s. We are born again when He implants this new life in us, and from that moment the life of the risen Lord begins to rise within us; we “�participate in the divine nature”� (2 Peter 1:4). Jesus is on the throne and He is our life. He is the Vine, we are the branches, and His life flows into us; the sap rises within us and the One who imparts this new life to us extends it within us, and transmits it by the power of the Holy Spirit.
4. *Bears witness* (Romans 8:16)
5. *Spring of our joy* The Holy Spirit lives within us to produce this joy! �- look up and compare Galatians 5:22 with Acts 5:41; 13:52; 16:25; Ephesians 5:18. The Holy Spirit lives within us to make us joyful, happy, radiant people.

" *And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption*" ( Ephesians 4:30)

1. That the Love of Christ might take over GSA.
2. Anybody who comes in contact with GSA shall experience the power of the Holy Spirit.
3. GSA shall experience supernatural encounters in the name of Jesus
4. Come against the spirit of Confusion that causes bewilderment and cloudiness in GSA in the name of Jesus.
5. Every veil preventing GSA from plain spiritual vision be removed in Jesus' name.

*Personal Prayer Points*

1. Thank God for the Holy Spirit
2. Lord, ignite and revive my beneficial potentials in the name of Jesus
3. Help yield and die to myself daily in the name of Jesus.
4. I drink to the full in the well of salvation and anointing in the name of Jesus
5. *Pray for a deeper revelation of the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.*

*TOPIC : Believer, the temple of the Holy Spirit*
*TEXT : 1 Corinthian 6 : 19*
*Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own.*

A temple is a structure that provides accommodation or shelter for something. Holy Spirit as the third person in Godhead needs a place to dwell in order to carry out some works. In the old testament, Holy Spirit dwelt only in the temple made by man. He doesn't stay in just any place in the temple, but in the Holy of holies. *Leviticus 16 : 23 Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting and put off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy of Holies, and leave them there*

Thank God for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who paid the price for believer to be found worthy to be the carrier of the Holy Spirit, *1 Corinthians 6 : 20, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.*

What a great privilege for a believer to be the temple of the Holy Spirit, it means, his presence shall be with such, whether sleeping, working, travelling, doing exams, praying, meditating, and other activities of ours. Hallelujah! ...

Satan in his craftiness, having known the beauty of being the temple of the Holy Spirit always make effort in making a believer not fit for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. He knows that if he can get a believer to use the members of his/her body in unholy ways without repentance, the Holy Spirit will not want to live in such a body. *Romans 8 : 12 says, I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.*

The scripture say we should be wise as a serpent so that we will not yield to the lust of the flesh. Brethren, to overcome the lust  of the flesh, let what is written in Philippians 4 : 8 be our watch word * For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].*

He (devil) will bring evil suggestions to us in order to get us defiled, in all these, let always say no to satan and yes to Jesus. He may whisper to us that it is just once and that nobody is looking, commit fornication, steal that money, go to that wild party, patronise the brothel down there etc .Yielding to these wiles of satan will definitely dirty the temple of the Holy Spirit which is our body. We should reply him that our hands have been crucified, so we can't steal, our legs have been crucified, so we can't go to the wild party and so on.

Brethren, keeping our body always fit for the Holy Spirit may seem difficult, but know that the grace of God is sufficient for us to do all things.

Personal declaration:
I shall not yield the members of my body to the wiles of satan in Jesus name.

2. Father, help me to consecrated my body unto YOU only.
3. Father, prove yourself as the Lord of lords over my life and family today and always.

*TOPIC : Work of the Holy Spirit*
*TEXT : 2 Timothy  1:7*
*For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.*

Holy Spirit in one's life plays important roles in the journey of a believer. His work in our lives as Christians cannot be overemphasised. Some works of the Holy  Spirit include but not limited to these; He comforts, He advocate for us, He prays for us when we don't know what to pray, He brings things to remembrance, He energies us to witness among other works. Work of the Holy Spirit can be seen in the life of a believer at the  new birth and in the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

*Work of the Holy Spirit in the new birth*
At the point of one's salvation, there is a deposit or measure of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. In other words, every born again believer has the Holy Spirit in a measure  through the new birth. However, the measure of the Holy Spirit in a believer at the new birth  does not equate to the baptism of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ talks about in *Luke 24 : 49,  And behold, I will send forth upon you what My Father has promised; but remain in the city [Jerusalem] until you are clothed with power from on high.* The main work of the Holy Spirit in the new  birth is to witness to our spirit that we are children of God, *Romans 8 :16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.*

*Work of the Holy Spirit in the baptism of the Holy Spirit*
Besides witnessing to our spirit that we are the children of God due to the new birth by the Holy Spirit, Jesus  Christ wants us as a believer to be empowered so that we can truly represent Him here on earth and continue to preach the gospel across the world through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. There is a work of the Holy Spirit that God desires to perform in the life of every believer following the new birth experience which is called the infilling of the Holy Spirit or Holy Spirit  baptism. The work of the Holy Spirit in the baptism of the Holy Spirit is energies believer to be a true witness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in power and in deed, *Acts 1: 8, But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.*  Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives every believer easy access to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I pray that the power to be a true witness of Jesus Christ in power and in deed shall be released unto us in Jesus name, amen.

Text : Acts 1:8
'But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth'.

Introduction
After the salvation of a person, the next most important thing that can happen to such person is to be filled with the Holy Spirit so as to run the race with ease, to finish well and to reach the uttermost goal, which is eternity in God’s Kingdom where we shall reign with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as King forever.

Holy Spirit As A Person
Holy Spirit is a divine personal being and must be related to as such. He is the third person of the Godhead, that is God, the Father, God, the Son and God, the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ makes this clear when He refers to Holy Spirit as the Comforter in John 14:16 "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever". I pray as we regard Him as a person in our lives, He shall help us, intercede for us, strengthen us and stand by us always in Jesus mighty name.
Brethren, it is more than just an experience receiving the Holy Spirit because as a Divine Personality, He comes to live in us, to dwell in us and to make His home in us. Therefore, receiving the Holy Spirit is just the beginning of an exciting journey if we grief Him not

Holy Spirit, A Promise From God.
God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has promised us to pour out this Spirit upon us in respective of age, race, status or tribe. Joel 2:28 "And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions".
The promise of the Holy Spirit is for the body of Christ of which you and I are members as we see in Acts 1:5 " For John baptized with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with (placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit". The fulfillment of this is seen in Acts 2:33 " Being therefore lifted high by and to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promised [blessing which is the] Holy Spirit, He has made this outpouring which you yourselves both see and hear".
I pray that people shall see the evidence of the Holy Spirit in our lives in Jesus name, amen.

Personal declaration : I shall be alerted always to the Holy Spirit in Jesus mighty name.

Prayer Points.
1. Father, give me more of your spirit.
2. Father, give me the grace to allow the Holy Spirit to operate maximally in my life.
3. Father in the spirit of independence, give me total freedom from sin, self and satan in Jesus mighty name.

Marriage! Marriage!!
Who can understand how things just fall apart:-

Most times I'm inspired to write by what i see. Some things one might HV not experienced; but from what you see or hear, you could say one or two things.

Hmm! Marriage! Indeed how things suddenly fall apart for some people.
You cant beat the wedding ceremonies of many marriages. Amazing "komole" of the wife ehn!. Her joy is so full even dey throw away. She dance and dance as if dance go finish DAT day.
Hmm! My Bro! U think say because Bro dey gentle for church, so he can't perform and give us wonderful dance steps? Forget ooo! The Bro or man also put up his own show...woah! Everybody is stunned. Maybe e even forget himself as the joy on d day and of a beautiful damsel his abt to carry and marry, as so much overwhelm him; and begins to throw his hand in the air, giving us dance steps DAT we often notice with some set of people in the world. What can we say? is the day of their joy as is often said.

Suddenly, 'things fall apart'. Those who "komole", put juice in each other's mouth, carry each other up and throw in the air, look at each other's face- eyeball to eyeball as if dey want to HV a wrestling match. No! Na Love. "Electric shock" of love is so much. They hold each other tight; immediately fulfilling "what God has joined together let no man...."

But divorce note is flying around now. For those who believe d Word of God on no divorce, dey just 'endure". Is their cross dey HV to carry it. What hit the heart like a thunderbolt is "How things fall apart".

We would HV thought d overwhelming joy and happiness on d wedding day signals exactly how everything will be and last. Alas! Is another music we hear now, different from DAT of the wedding ceremony. Hmm! Broken marriages, "enduring marriages" not enjoyed, who can really and fully explain?
We can only pray. I don't know if prayer is late for some; but for the singles, there is still a big chance.
It is well. God help us.

Text: *Psalm 44:3 – for they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them*


Favour is defined as approval, a kindly helpful act beyond what is due, to endorse, preference, make easier for one. If Jesus needed favour to succeed then we need it. It is possible to gain, grow in and lose favour or stop it from working in your behalf.

Have you ever felt like a failure in life, or felt as if you’ve lost the grip on the important things in your life? Have you ever experienced insecurities in your life? Have you ever felt unloved and worthless? Have you ever thought you are unattractive or can’t do things other people can do? Do you feel you don’t have what it takes or not good enough? Do think nothing good ever happens in your life or for every good thing that happens a bad one follows. Do you feel like a failure? If you are being plagued by any of these thoughts this write up is for you and I have good news for you and I know what you need. You need divine favour. You need preferential treatment and you need advantage. Life without divine favour will result in a person working like an elephant and eating like an ant. Today your story will change. You need favour to gain access to opportunities and for success. One day of favour is worth more than a lifetime of labour. The following are the fruit of favour: _

1 *It produces supernatural increase and promotion – Joseph*

2. *Favour produces restoration of everything the devil has stolen from you – Israelites leaving Egypt*

3. *Favour produces honour in the midst of your adversaries – Daniel with the prince of Eunuch*

4. *Favour produced increased assets especially in the area of real estate – Israelite possessing Canaan*

5*. *Favour produces great increase in the midst of great impossibilities – Israelites in Goshen, ravens feeding Elijah*

*6. Favour produces recognition even when you seem the least likely to receive it – David made king among his brethren*

*7. Favour produce prominence and preferential treatment – Esther*

*8. Favour produces petitions granted even by civil ungodly authorities – Esther*

9. *Favour causes rules, regulations, laws and policies to be changed and reversed to your advantage – Shadrach, Mesach, and Abenego*

10. *Favour produces battles won, which you wouldn’t even fight because God will fight them for you. Jehoshaphat and the people of Israel*
Who is favour for – Psalm 5:12 – For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.

Every child of God qualifies for favour. When you receive Jesus Christ, He gives you his righteousness and qualifies for divine favour. 2 Corinthians 5:21- 22 declares that we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ. So you have the favour of God. You have to unlock it and enjoy it. Tomorrow, I will show you how to unlock the favour of God.

Preparing for marriage

If I may ask a question here, *what do you think is the next most important decision a man/woman makes apart from the decision of purpose?

Ans: Life partner

But then we wonder why high rate of divorce and abuse of the term marriage in our world today?
Statistics holds it that about 50% of marriages in America ends up in divorce(a number that keeps increasing)
But other countries are not left out including Nigeria who now follows the path
It is very sad to note all this in our world today. God is never happy with this just the way you are
But it seems people's understanding about marriage have changed over time; the good as become bad and the bad has become good before people
And thus it's a timely message for single brethren to take a look at this pit holes not fall into them in order to take hold of their destiny!
Good is dedicated to committing nations into our hands; great nations only on a solid family....
The seven mountains of the world can only be conquered only on the bed rock of a solid marriage
Though marriage is defined by dictionary *"as the legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship (historically and in some jurisdictions specifically a union between a man and a woman)"*, it is important we we understand its origin

Genesis 2:18-25 gives us understanding on this

(KJV) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Marriage was first instituted for a purpose....
Genesis 2:18 (KJV) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him *(to fulfil God's purpose for creating man)*
Marriage was established as a tool to fulfilling God's purpose for creating man
I won't want to dwell much on this but will share a link to which you can download free books on this aspect of marriage
Marriage was established for God's glory and not for sin, immorality and pervasion as we see in today's world
Thus a major reason why marriage has bn distorted over time is the lack of understanding of the concept of marriage
So for us to be fortified with what marriage is, we need to understand it
Two key things are needed here
1. Love
2. Knowledge
Love without knowledge blows things up (exagurate things)

Knowledge without love makes things dull and dry

Knowledge with love grows things
Marriage can only grow when these two are present
Most boys or 'guys' as they call themselves only emulate the 1st(love) leaving the knowledge out
Love may help start a marriage but knowledge will help sustain it
Most marriage in our today's world is only built on love and that's why many fail
Moreover *TRUE LOVE LIES KNOWLEGDE*
1 cor 13 talks about love. However if you read through that chapter you will see the unspoken words of knowledge as an attribute of true love
The world is filled with different kinds of love but the TRUE LOVE we are to emulate has Christians is that which effectively operate on knowledge
You may then ask what kind of knowledge?
Knowledge of self
-who you are
-Your purpose
-Your work on earth
-Your qualities(attributes, likes, dislikes)
And many more

Knowledge of your partner
-Who he/she is
-His/her purpose
-his/her work on earth
-His/her qualities(attributes, likes, dislikes)
And many more

You need to study them before you can say you are ready for marriage
You don't do this after marriage but before marriage and that's why we have courtship
Know yourself first brethren and get kit for it
If you know you aren't ready for this then I advice you wait
Remember: We weren't created for marriage but marriage was created for us.... Wait and get kitted!
-Read more about marriage. Some people haven't ready any book on marriage. The more you read the better you become
-Get soaked in God. He is the author and finisher of marriage. Know Him
-Be always at alert at the prompting of the Holy spirit. He is there to teach and guide you into all truth

MORNING DEVOTION.

TOPIC: THE REACHINESS OF GOD'S MERCY
TEXT: LUKE 18:35-43

Take a look at the beggers on the streetsm. Look at there appearance they have no friend to take with. Now this man from our text was blind and at the same time a begger. He has no helper always on the way side begger under the rain and sun he is their.

One day Jesus was passing through his way, like He is passing through your way this morning.

And he hear the sound of multitudes foot pass by. And he ask, This morning you will ask and you will recieve in Jesus name Amen.

They told him Jesus is passing by. Right their he cried out to Jesus, "thou son of David have mercy on me.

People around him was trying to stop him. Did you what he did? In vers 39 he cried so much more. This morning cry unto the he will hear you in Jesus name.

That is the cry for mercy and you will cry for mercy to Jesus and it will get to you. Jesus hear his voice, He will hear your voice in Jesus name.

And he stood and commanded them to be brought unto Him. Jesus will command to your problems and ye shall see them no more in Jesus name Amen.

Vers 40 And Jesus ask him what is his problem he said that i mighty recieve my sight. Tell Jesus your problem and ye shall see them no more in Jesus name Amen.

Vers 42&43: Some body say immediately his sight was giving unto him. Your sight of open door will be giving unto you in Jesus name. What is that your problem NAME them let me tell you the Lord said He has come and he will take them away in Jesus name.

What the Lord will do for you the praise will never stop in your life in Jesus name Amen.

Pray And tell the Lord never pass u by.

pray and tell the Lord only your mercy i need.

Lord let your mercy touch my problems.

Lord i will never let you go untill i recieve you mercy.

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Topic : Bondage of the Law and the Liberty of Grace
As God is helping us, the topic is going to be discussed under three subtopics which are
1. Bondage of the law
2. The liberty of Grace
3. How not to misuse the liberty of Grace.
Bondage of the Law.
Where there is no law, there is no sin. In order to have a sane society, laws are created. Anyone that goes against the laws shall be punished accordingly.

So it is from the beginning. God gave the ten commandments to the children of Israel, but it is Bondage of the Law. that they find it difficult to abide or obey the commandments.

Each time they went contrary to the commandments, animal sacrifice must be made for the atonement of their sins, which must be carried out by the holy Priest.

Exo 30:10 And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it [is] most holy unto the LORD.

Lev 4:14 When the sin, which they have sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation.

Lev 5:6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.

When one is under the bondage of the law, such is a slave of the law. He/ she will want to obey to all instructions given out by his/her master.
In the process of keeping the laws, he/she will be violating other institutions with his/her human ability
The second sub topic
The liberty of Grace.
This can be termed as freedom we have in Jesus Christ

Trying to obey the laws through human effort and offering of sacrifice for sin atonement each time sin is committed had been going on until God in HIS infinite mercy sent HIS only begotten Son, Jesus Christ , through His virgin birth, victorious living and resurrection to deliver us from the bondage of the laws once and forever.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Praise ye the Lord, Hallelujah.

Enjoying the liberty of Grace through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, which means we are no longer under the slavery of the law. At this juncture,Christians must take caution not to abuse the Grace we have in Jesus Christ. No wonder, Apostle Paul said in Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? This pointed out that many may see the availability of grace to continually and persistently engage in sinning with a notion that grace will cover him/her up.
Christian should be aware that satan is roaming around like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour and that the chance to run to the throne of grace may not be there. So we must be steadfast in our walk with Jesus Christ, our Saviour and redeemer
The Grace shall be sufficient for us in Jesus mighty name
It is possible for someone to misuse the grace but we as dedicated Christians should be alerted in our christian journey so as not to missuse the grace we have in the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
This can be done through the following:

1. Exercising self control

It will be a wrong notion or assumption that once we are saved, we are free from all committing sorts of sin. Not at all, it was because of this that Apostle Peter wrote in 2 Peter1 : 5-7. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
The thoughts to sin and temptations may come, but in all these, we must be determined in our hearts to control our bodies to say no to the devil and yes to Jesus always.

2. Reading and meditating the word of God consistently.
Cultivating the habit of reading and meditating on the word of God will make us to grow steadily in the spirit as we work towards perfection.
Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

3. Leading by the Spirit.
Holy Spirit
To continue enjoying the liberty of the Grace we have in Jesus Christ, we must allow the fruits of the Holy Spirit to be manifested in our lives.
Gal. 5 : 22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things
there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

In conclusion, just as father Abraham's two children,, Ishmael, from the slave woman, and Isaac from the freeborn wife. The slave woman, Hagar, represents mount sinai where people first became enslaved to the law while the freeborn woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem which will be entered through the grace we have through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Brethren, we are the children of promise as Isaac.
Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Mercy 3

Text : Psalm 145:9

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Having discussed the manifestations and nature of God's mercies , let's look at how God's mercies benefits all.

We know the Faith is a requirement to accessing God's blessings however there are situations of life that even your Faith may fail. One dimension of God that has no regard for your failing faith is Mercy

Mercy is the last and only hope of mankind.

Let's look at some categories of people that enjoys God's mercy

God said He will have mercy on the fatherless according to
Hosea 14:3
Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.
What does this mean? It means irrespective of who you have loosed or who have rejected you , God is saying I will arise and show Mercy to the fatherless. That widow in Samaria had an encounter with Elijah. Not just for her sake but because of her children... God never forget the desolates.

In the same vein, He has mercy on whom He chooses and there is nothing anybody can do about that

Romans 9:15-18.

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

For someone following this devotion, May you become a permanent candidate of Mercy

As seen in the case of Pharaoh, there are only two doors in life. The door of Mercy and the door of judgement. Scriptures was very clear on this subject in that only the ones that received Mercy escaped judgement. Even in the Old Testament, name a very righteous person that didn't need the Mercy of God. Even Joseph needed God's Mercy otherwise his brothers would have slew him as planned. For someone reading, the Mercy of God will deliver you from Dream killers In Jesus name.

Two more examples to save time... God's mercies is also shown to repentant sinners. -- Ps 32:5; Pr 28:13; Isa 55:7; Lu 15:18-20.

Read those scriptures but then consider the solemn case of Samson. We can't begin to dig for this is just a devotion. Samson is an example of someone you thought have lost all but used his case to teach us that such things as lost all does not exist in the vocabulary of Mercy. With Mercy standing, the devil is still very much defeated.

Something amazes me. I don't know how the devil have tried to convince some people that they cannot be free from sin or God cannot forgive them. If we read the Bible at all, we will see the worst cases of people being saved.

Why do we still refer to Rehab as a former harlot, it is to send a message that God loves harlots and His Mercy is sufficient to save them. God hates Adultery but not adulterers. There is a difference. The message here is that the door of Mercy is open to sinners. All that is needed is that they repent. I have struggled with masturbation and pornography but then mercy stood and dragged me out that Sodom where destruction is eminent.

You may be the leader of this and the coordinator of that... If you are a sinner, you are nothing. But you don't have to die in Sodom. Mercy is an open door, you need to take a walk through the door.

In the same vein, God's mercies is available to returning backsliders. -- Jer 3:12; Ho 14:4; Joe 2:13.

In Nigeria, we need God's mercy.

2nd chronicles 7:14

Let's pray that God May your Mercy not elude me

Luke 6:36

AMP:So be merciful (sympathetic, tender, responsive, and compassionate) even as your Father is [all these].

Mercy is simply showing compassion, pity and forgiveness especially to an individual or party seemingly undeserving of it

Mercy is one of the virtues of God as seen in Exodus 34:6

God is indeed merciful. His Mercy is manifested from Ages to Ages.

The mercy of God is manifestation of His Love
In today's text, we are encouraged to show Mercy even as our Father shows Mercy. The question is... How did our father manifested Mercy .

To say a few, He is merciful to sinners as seen in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:20), sending Christ to us is a deep manifestation of His Mercy (Luke 1:78-79), Titus 3:5 says that we are saved by His Mercy, psalm 103:17 says that He shows Mercy on them that Fear Him. To the poor, He is merciful, To the destitute, He is merciful. In fact, in Isaiah 60:1-7, the scriptures that captures the Modus operandi of our Lord Jesus on Earth, we saw that His assignment is targeted to the totally helpless and that's a manifestation of God's mercies.

Food for thought: Are you showing Mercy? Is your deeds to people an act of Mercy or mere investment?

Prayers : Father thank you for your mercies over my life,

Thank you for loving me, thank you because if not for your Mercy, I would have been consumed, thank you for your unending mercy

Father, help me to make Mercy my lifestyle in Jesus name Amen
