Good day everyone on Nairaland, I have been on this platform for years now and noticed some intellectuals in the house. Now I am in a stage where I need to decide a lot of things about my life. I am a 20years old boy who is currently in 300LV but most tell me to be successful in life it's not all about certificate. I thought about learning an handwork which I don't know what it should be. Coz my field of study isn't so easy (Mining Engnr.) I need some guides about my life coz I am sure by 2-4yrs time now daddy will stop giving me money. I always have a big dream of becoming a great politician in Nigeria. What will you advice me to start doing? I need the experience of the seniors on this platform to help. |
Berlynn:But why did u have to deny this? |
SirJeffry:but baba why? what are you doing in public by that time, u be witch or wizard , make we run for our lives liar |
CAREER CHOICE: PARENTS CONTRIBUTION ( Africa as a case of Study) And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. (Surah Al-Isra, Verse 23). I am not conversant with a Bible but I am very much sure their is also a bible verse who wants you to respect your parents. Lately, problem have surfaced about the mindset of some African parents supporting their son to go to school and study fine courses leaving their belief and the child's dream outside. Most students makes mistakes of choice in their lives from their days in JSS. Imagine a son dreaming of becoming a lawyer and the father wants him to be a doctor by force. As a small boy of his age has no insight about life but to trust and go on the line of his parents what he gets there and can't pass. Since a small boy brain is sharp and fictional he excels there and later develops a passion of becoming a doctor. Since he is living by another man's dream, he might loss focus and passion for what he is doing and fail. Even if he doesn't fail he can never make a first class and expect something good from the course of study because it's not his dream. Can we all dream of becoming big, rarely will you see a Nigerian parent supporting his son who wants to become a drummer and shun tertiary education. Some are in this life to rule while some are in this life to follow laws while some are just to abide by regulations. The Nigeria parents of nowadays tends to restrict their wards from becoming a great leader. It's a rare case to see a Nigerian parent supporting his son to join any student unionism struggle, and they also protest. This keeps me wondering where are the future leaders? Why won't Nigeria produce quack graduates when the students are not really in love with their course of study and most of them are pushed to study courses with names when their parents even know they can't perform efficiently there. I Wonder where we are going to. Thinking so hard about life... Your views about career choice, because Nigeria parents tags a child with a dream of leading a jobless thief or rather an executive thief. Parents on NL Can you sponsor your child's campaign as an aspirant for any SU post? ©IYANDA M. O |

To: President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR Sir, FUTA IMPASSE: A CLEAR INDICATION OF LACK OF ENTHUSIAST TO EDUCATION SECTOR IN NIGERIA BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, REACTION FROM PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI IS REQUIRED 1. The students of the Federal University of Technology Akure can no longer be a suffering grass while two elephants are fighting. 2. The crisis rocking the best University of Technology is not only a dent to the university herself, staff and the students but also a national embarrassment to the whole nation. 3. The crisis that has so far paralysed both the administrative and academic activities also nearly stopped our graduating students from getting mobilized for this year youth service. We believe this is due enough to have attracted or gain the attention of the visitor of the varsity (President Muhammadu Buhari). But to our greatest surprise, the President attitude to education is not very clear and visible, with his attitude to FUTA crisis and other varsities that are under lock and key. 4. Nevertheless, we must appreciate Hon. Olowokere the, Hon parliamentarian representing AKURE NORTH/SOUTH federal constituency for bringing up the issue on the floor of the house of representative. 5. The effort of the Hon is well acknowledged and also some other high profile personalities which do not exclude the DEJI of Akure Kingdom. 6. But it is so pitiable and unfortunate that the efforts put together by those mentioned above could not restore normalcy to the most peaceful campus that had now turn to battleground between the university vice chancellor and the staff of the University. 7. It has now gotten to a stage where the students must come out in clear terms to get our future back from those that are working relentlessly to ensure the fulfillment of each student doesn't come to manifestation. 8. We cannot sit idle while the leaders of the nation and other concerned education stakeholders (NUC, MINISTER OF EDUCATION) has turned a deaf hear to FUTA crisis. They behave like everything is well with FUTA and in other universities across the nation while our university is in comatose and is urgently in need of a good surgeon that will carry out the operation required to revive it. 9. We at this moment call on the President, to as a matter of urgency look into the crisis that had put the hope of more than 15,000 students to hopelessness and our future has now been cloud computed. 10. The visitor attention is the best and the most appropriate things needed to salvage the impasse rocking our campus(FUTA). 11. The President must also put into consideration that if we really must get out of the economic crisis rocking our country, then the educational crisis must be fixed. 12. We appeal and urge you to give more attention to the education sector and particularly the Federal University of Technology Akure as technology is one of the needed tools to drive our economic and FUTA being the best University of Technology must be given proper attention to all issues that arise or comes from there. 13. The effort of the ministry of education is not enough and as thus more proactive measure must be taken to bring about a quick solution to the impasse. 14. We once again call on the Federal government through the Hon minister of education to put all things in place to ensure peace return to FUTA. 15. we must not but also call on the two parties involved in this crisis to shelve their sword and allow normalcy to visit us once again in FUTA. 16. The students union equally wish to alert the Federal government, the vice chancellor, and the protesting staff unions to be ready and prepared to accommodate us when we begin to show our displeasure on the street. 17. If our demand is not met within a period of 7 working days, we shall not hesitate to paralyse all activities within Akure metropolis. 18. Motorist and commuters should hold the Federal government accountable for any difficulties and hardship our demonstration may cause to them. 19. The union must at this time appreciate the patience exhibited by our union members but such patience is becoming too painful and anybody that touches the tail of a hungry dog must be ready to take anti-rabies injection. 20. The Union wishes to inform the students to be on a red alert and also must be willing to come back to school as we will not hesitate to direct all students back on campus if all arsenal at our disposal has been exhausted. 21. Get yourself prepared to take your future, our future back from those that want to put us into a life jail of ignorance and illiteracy. 22. As it is said that an enlightened and educated mind is always difficult to be enslaved. We refuse to be enslaved and as thus we must resume. Thanks. Signed; FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AKURE, STUDENTS' UNION For; ALL STUDENTS OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE. |
