Jokes Etc › Why I Speak Big Grammar..patrick Obiahiagbon. by misreal(op): 4:23pm On Sep 14, 2015 |
Patrick Obahiagbon, who represents Oredo
Federal Constituency of Edo state shot to
limelight the moment he arrived the House of
Representatives in 2007 with his uncanny
knack for jaw-breaking words.
For reasons he explained exclusively below
to Saturday Vanguard in his first ever
interview on his manner of speech, the 1983
product of St John Bosco Grammar School,
Obiaja, Edo State swore that he has since
cut short on the big, big vocabulary he uses.
In this chat, the 1987 Law graduate of
University of Benin, who also holds two
Master degrees, appealed to his audience
for understanding, explaining that, “the
intention is not to deliberately befuddle or
obfuscate them” insisting that, “ I do not set
out to deposit my audience in a portmanteau
of indecipherability” Excerpts.
Why I speak the way I do
Sincerely speaking, I want to tender an
unreserved apologia to my colleagues and all
those who feel that my language is
obscurantist. The truth is that I do not set
out deliberately to mystify my audience, to
deposit my audience in a portmanteau of
indecipherability or in portmanteau of
conundrum. No, no, no, no! Far from it.
The cosmic force would not allow me to do
that. But, you see if you ask homo sapients
who have interfaced with me for close to
twenty years now, they would tell you that I
no longer speak high sounding language. I
have reduced it radically.
If you have the opportunity to listen to my
speeches or debates ten, fifteen years ago,
then it would have been a different kettle of
fish all together. So, I am convinced that I’ve
tried, I am trying and I will continue to try to
ensure that my language, or my idiolect is as
limpid and as diaphanous as possible.
But, let me say that I am an omnivorous
reader and I put my nose on the grinding
stone to read for more than 7 hours a day
when most innocent men are sleeping, and
night marauders are doing their business. I
am on my table, in my Library for 7 hours.
And that has been on for over twenty years.
And like I always tell people, the dictionary
for me is not a reference point; the
dictionary is a vade mecum, a constant
companion.
I spend on the average not less than an hour
a day referencing the dictionary for the past
twenty to twenty-five years. So don’t be
maniacally bewildered if I speak most times,
from what I draw while reading. But, really,
the intention is not to deliberately befuddle
or obfuscate my presentations on the floor.
My Political experience
I was a student Union activist all my years in
the University of Benin. Little wonder, as soon
as I left the University and finished my Youth
Service, I dabbled into the aqua of political
arena. If I remember vividly, I contested my
first election into Oredu Local Government
Area (LGA) as a Councillor only one year
after my Youth Service.
So I have been in State and National politics
effectively from 1999. But it has not been a
bed of roses, giving the miasma, given that
convoluted phantasmagoria, given the
prependalism and all the intrigues in Nigerian
politics.
I contested several elections and lost several
elections. Some not because I lost, but
because of course, we are in Nigeria, and
the X factor in Nigerian politics is still very
important.
But, I knew right back from when I started,
that I had a date with history, with destiny.
At every time I lost an election, I would
decide to be more recusant rather than being
recumbent. I decided to be more quixotic
rather than being laisser-faire- to challenge
my destiny the more rather than relapsing
into a cocoon of levity, or into a cocoon of
political narcissisms. And I thank the great
galaxy of the universe, after several
attempts at political office in 1999, my bread
was buttered.
The cosmic afforded me the lacuna to give a
vivacious and vibrant representation to my
constituency.
And since then, it has been one political
victory to the other as ordained by God.
That was why mandate to remain the amiable
representatives of Oredo Federal constituency
was challenged very, very viscerally, at the
election tribunal, I had no fear that at end of
the day it was going to be victory for me.
this is because I am a robot in the hand of
God.
I believe that the hand of God and the cosmic
imprimaturs are in my political odyssey. If it
were by my grace or by my powers, by my
capacity, I Probably would not have been
qualified in the first place to become a
councillor in my local govern. |

flaminReed: The sin implied there is the one that cannot be purged by sacrifice; by neither Christ's sacrifice nor another. This pitiable condition is reached when someone shuts out the sacrifice of Christ from his heart. It occurs when one has stopped believing in the atonement of Christ. In fact, that's one of the leading verses in the subject of apostasy. Every sin is perpetrated by some will in man, and every sin can be forgiven. The fear of the apostle is that some people do not care. Their I don't care attitude leaves then sinning again and again while they give no second thought, nor consider repentance at all. They shun with impunity, and sadly, sometimes, they despise God's ministers and are not afraid to belittle and castigate them. The verse announces the catalogue of those who also claim that no one may tell them how to lead their lives. They're a special people for whom God reserves most horrible perdition. It's unthinkable that any believer can fall to such a deplorable condition, but it does happen. The scripture does not refer to ordinary sinners, or baby believers who manifest carnality a few times, it refers to those who had been sound believers before. While every believer is expected to strive to attain perfection, the perfect believer must take heed because the floods, storms, rains and winds will strike. Temptations will multiply. Every sin leads to eternal judgement. But sinning after having attained perfection will lead to eternal loss. We must approach the Advocate with the Father when we sin, but we must insist before Him that we cannot continue in sin. THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH this also explains it.. |

FortresOfChrist: sounds like that as i was taught and agree we should run away from sin but which sin is willful or delibrate and which sin is not. say for example a man sleeps with another man's wife; isn't it willful n deliberate or did both of them just jump into the act? besides the context that led to this verse seems to differ. what can u say about that please? in your spiritual walk with God, they are two kinds of knowledge. the head knowledge and the revealed knowledge. the head knowledge is that which you get from reading and studying the Bible, but the revealed knowledge is that which the holyghost reveals to you by virtue of his will through his word still. revealed knowledge makes you see beyond the ordinary, it transforms you from a normal church goer Christian to a person with unusual knowledge of God.jesus had revealed knowledge of the laws and the prophet but the Pharisees only had head knowledge. it is the depth to which you have been exposed to revealed knowledge that tells how deep you are in your Christian walk.. what the scripture you quoted is saying is that, if a man has been exposed to revealed knowledge, yet he chooses to sin wilfully, then such a man will be difficult to save.. I hope you get it. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Questions About The Holy Spirit : Help A Young Christian Out by misreal(m): 9:05pm On Sep 13, 2015 |
SirWere: In my church, our Sunday school booklet talks a lot about the holy Spirit, in fact they devoted this entire year to the topic. Yet, there are still some aspects which baffles me and I hope you guys can help me answer. 1) What is the relationship of the Holy Spirit to God? : Yes, I know about the trinity. But I also know that Jesus is God's son but there is no definitive connection between God and the Holy spirit. 2) If the Holy spirit is part of the trinity, why don't we pray to him/it/her? : We pray to Jesus, we also sometimes pray to God, So why don't we pray to the holy spirit? 3) What is the power of the Holy spirit? : God is the king of high who performs Miracles, Jesus is his son who also performs miracles, But does the Holy spirit perform Miracles? After a deliverance and healing session, the pastor praises God and says "In Jesus Name", yet no one mentions the holy spirit. So what is it's power? Is it 0.3333 or what Pls, this is the most important. 4) Is it possible for a pastor to "induce" the holy spirit in you? : In a fellowship my sister usually go to, our prayer leader would take some one into a special room, there they would keep praying until the person starts speaking in tongues. So, is it biblical and possible? 5) Does the holy spirit give different interpretations? : Why is it that there are different interpretations of bible texts by pastors and individuals who say there are with the holy spirit Please note that I am just a young Christian who is confused. Thank you no one can truly know the holy ghost except he is having fellowship with him through the word and in prayers. |

I'm not a Catechist...though I hope to be.
You need to read the true history of Christianity, not history as is peddled by bias people whose claims aren't credible.
Read from every side...and use your head to decide who is saying the truth. It will help you a lot.

Christianity Etc › Re: Difference Between A Roman Catholic Church And Catholic Church. by misreal(op): 12:13pm On Sep 12, 2015 |
italo: No difference. "Roman" was first used by derogatorily by Protestants who broke away from the Catholic Church as if to claim that they too were "Catholic" but didn't adhere to the 'Roman branch.'
When Catholics use it, they do to just to emphasize that the Church is under the Bishop of Rome - The Pope.
The official name of the Church in communion with the Pope is "The Catholic Church."
The other one nobilis is talking about is the Eastern Orthodox Church. They used to be together with the Catholic Church until they broke away in 1054.
Like he said, they share most doctrines.
The Eastern Catholic Churches are located in the geographical area of the Orthodox Churches but they later retraced their steps and reestablished communion with Rome.
"Anglo-Catholic" is not in communion with the Catholic Church...though a lot of them are Anglicans who want to be more 'Catholic' and be in communion with Rome.
So, I am Catholic. I'm Roman Catholic. No difference. nice..this really explained it.I have never heard of the eastern catholic church before oh..no offence but I think you are a catechists.. |

nobilis: Yes. 90-95% of the doctrines of both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Catholic Churches are basically the same. Just some few points that differentiates them.
1. The Eastern Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit proceeds from God the Father alone while Roman Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son. Infact, this was where the whole divisiveness started.
2. The Eastern Catholics do not believe in the supremacy of the Pope nor the Apostolic Succession but the Roman Catholics believe.
3. The official language of the Eastern Catholic Church is Greek while that of the Roman Catholic is Latin. (this is not a doctrinal point sha)
There are other very minute and infinitesimal differences. But every other thing is basically the same. They celebrate the same feasts though on different days. They both believe in Mary being the Virgin Mother of God. They both believe in the intercession of the saints. They both believe in the use of images in the worship of God. They both believe in the presence of Jesus in the blessed Sacrament. They both believe in the Mass And so on. thanks a lot. |
