Three things to do when you hear that Buhari has declared his intention to go for the second time:
1. Praise the name of your lord and give thanks to him for giving an opportunity to be part of the team that will bring PMB down.
2. Locate your PVC and keep it safe.
3. Ensure that all your dependents that are 18 and above have gotten their PVCs ready.
Then wait patiently for the day you prove to him that his investment in killing Nigerians has come to an end.

Crime / One In Five Nigerians Is Chronically Depressed - World Bank by Mohdadutse(m): 4:28pm On Feb 02, 2018
One in Five Nigerians is Chronically Depressed - World Bank

One in every five Nigerians is depressed, according to a recent study by the Mind, Behavior, and Development Unit (eMBeD) of the World Bank.

This figure accounts for an average of 22% of the Nigerian population. The report says “while these results are not surprising, they are telling”.

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), depression is a “common mental disorder, characterised by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that you normally enjoy, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for at least two weeks”.

Its symptoms include a loss of energy; a change in appetite; sleeping more or less; anxiety; reduced concentration; indecisiveness; restlessness; feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or hopelessness; and thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

The study looked at the link between depression and factors like economic outcomes, such as labour market and human capital investments, especially in heavy-conflict areas or for individuals or communities who have experienced shocks or deaths.

The results show a strong correlation between chronic depression and labour market outcomes.

“One in five Nigerians are chronically depressed. Having representative statistics of mental health at the national level is rare, so while these results are not surprising, they are telling,” the report read.

“Specifically, a household head who is chronically depressed has an eight percentage points lower probability of participating in the labour market.

“While the overall effects are similar by gender, chronic depression drives lower labour market participation in agricultural activities for men and in non-farm self-employment for women.”

The study also said chronic depression, “as expected” is strongly associated with adverse events, especially conflict.

It, however, said the effects vary.

It added that the disorder has both short and long-term effects on Nigeria, calling on lawmakers to take cognizance of chronic depression while making mental health policies.

“For example, less than 30% of household heads who are affected by a family death or a community shock (such as droughts) are chronically depressed,” it said.

“This contrasts with more than 50% for household heads affected by conflicts; this rate of depression is more than twice the national average.

“Taken together, these findings suggest that chronic depression is likely to have both short- and long-term effects on welfare in Nigeria. It also seems to be affecting intra and inter-generational channels of upward mobility. With almost two out of every five Nigerians affected by shocks, deaths, and/or conflicts (key drivers of chronic depression), further understanding these costs and linkages is essential.

“Thus, policymakers should take the potential amplified costs of adverse events into account when making these decisions. Last, it is of utmost importance to integrate solutions in mental health policies to provide psychological support to affected populations.

“By directly treating and minimizing the effects of depression experienced by victims of conflicts, deaths and shocks, we may help mitigate these incidents’ overall economic “impact in society.

Buhari’s presidency the worst ever – Ozekhome explodes over ‘rats invasion’

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) on Tuesday condemned the presidency for saying President Muhammadu Buhari would work from home because rats invaded his office.

Ozekhome said Buhari’s presidency carelessly disrespects Nigerians, describing it as the worst since amalgamation by Lord Lugard and his wife, Flora Shaw.

He said: “It is a very shameful and disgraceful statement that emanated from the presidency to the effect that PMB, after a whole 104 days abroad on medical grounds, cannot work from his office because of rats and rodents.

“So, a whole Julius Berger, the German construction giant has to be called in to drive them away and repaint the office!

“This statement further derides and shames Nigeria as a country. Why didn’t the same, or similar rodents pursue Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan during their presidency?

“There is another mini office at the villa quite different from the official residence and main office. Let Buhari work from there. Let’s see our president working, not through still photo shopping. For how long will this government take the Nigerian citizens for a ride and for robots?

“Who told the image makers we are as brainless as they are? Don’t they know that lies have expiry date and that propaganda cannot substitute for image making? Goebel was a fantastic World War propagandist, but failed woefully as information minister.

“Let this opaque government of barefaced misinformation, lies, deceit and cluelessness know that its directionlessness and incapacity to govern are hurting this country badly.

“The economy is in horrific tatters, image bald-battered, security shattered, governance mangled and transparency and accountability interred. Nigeria is today more divided, more hate-inebriated, more crisis- ridden and more dangerous precipice-prone than ever before.

“Nigeria is today more derided, more excoriated and more corrupt than it has ever been. Nigeria has never had it so bad since her forced amalgamation on January 1,1914, by imperious Lord Lugard and his wife Flora Lugard”, he told Thisday

A former governor of Jigawa State, Saminu Turaki has been remanded in Kuje prison custody by a federal high court in Abuja on Tuesday. This development is coming 5 days after the same high court granted Turaki bail with two sureties who must be residents of Abuja.

At the court sitting today, which was presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, Turaki was remanded in prison until he was able to meet the conditions attached to the bail granted to him earlier. The politician is standing trial on 32 counts of fraud.

PoliticsNGR learnt that the bail was granted on liberal terms on July 14 by the vacation judge of the High Court, Justice Yusuf Halilu. His bail stands at N500 million with two sureties at N250,000 each. He is also to submit his travel documents to the court.

The ex-governor was arrested by the EFCC on July 4th at a ceremony in Abuja after evading arrest for 6 years. He was arraigned by the anti-graft commission alongside 3 companies, Arkel construction, INC natural resources Ltd and Wildcat construction Ltd.

THE SCRIPT IS STILL PLAYING OUT
(Words of wisdom from Late Hon Gentleman, Venerable Maitama Sule)
" During the civil war, we were sent out to campaign for our cause. I went to the United States and I remember Alhaji Shehu Shagari went to the Scandinavian countries. When we returned, we compared notes before submitting our reports to Gen Yakubu Gowon, the then Head of State. Shagari told me he met a common friend of ours and this is what the man told him.
"We know why you are here, you have come to seek our favour and support for your cause. But let me tell you, we do not care about you, all we care about are your resources. If we could get robots to exploit your resources for us to develop our economy, we would not mind a lot of you being eliminated. You Nigerians are a peculiar case; you have the population, resources and we know your resources more than you do know about them. All you need in Nigeria is a fairly long period of say ten to twenty years and you will be able to make it. You will become a very strong economy, will join the economic powers, but you need this period of uninterrupted peace and stability. But we will not allow it because within that period, you will use your brains, and Nigeria has got brains. You will work hard and you are hard working people, you will exploit your resources and you have them in abundance and you will develop your economy. Developing your economy needs market and you have no problem with that because of your huge population, in addition, you will have the entire West African region as your market. If that happens, you will be a thorn in our flesh; we would lose our source of raw materials because you would be using them in your factories. We would lose our market because you will be the market and also get other markets in West Africa. So, even after your civil war, we would create one problem after the other for you so that you may not enjoy the peace and stability that will enable you develop and become such a strong country.
"So, it is up to us."

By: Adamu Muhd Usman

In their efforts to cripple democracy, humiliate & deprive Nigerian citizens from exercising their constitutional rights, the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has collaborated with the Jigawa state APC led goverment to only recognised and permitted Senator Ali Modu Sherrif faction of PDP to participate in the election, announced to take place on Saturday, July 1st, 2017, in which the faction is nowhere to be found in Jigawa state. But hired some appalled elements to represent the faction in order to destabilized the peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding & the political stability in the state. Also, there is a court order that postponed the election, not be conducted until the case is resolved. To this respect, the leader of the masses, Dr. Sule Lamido gives instruction & call on all true Jigawa PDP faithfuls to boycott or keep off (Don't take part) in the elections. Period.

Politics / Lamido Finally Declares. by Mohdadutse(m): 12:33pm On Jun 14, 2017
LAMIDO FINALLY DECLARES.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was the first to declare his intention to take a shot at the presidency in 2019. The decision of a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido to join the race will turn the north into a battleground, writes Shola Oyeyipo

Eventually, former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido declared his much touted ambition to contest the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). That he would eventually join the race has been speculated and when it eventually came not many were surprised.

‎The former governor, who is believed to have been a subject of political persecution for his perceived ambition formerly declared his much anticipated presidential interest about four weeks ago at a gathering of zonal chairmen and state chairmen of the party in Abuja.

Though, it was not an elaborate media gathering but the point had been made. The way it was done was understandable because of the state of things in the opposition party. Sources present at the event hinted that while addressing the‎ gathering Lamido told the people that after pressure from people across the country and his conviction that he was capable of moving the country forward, he opted to make himself available for the job. One of those who attended the meeting spoke with THISDAY POLITICS in confidence.

According to him, Lamido advised the PDP leadership to ensure that only the best candidate ‎is elected to fly the flag of the party during the 2019 general election.

“While he is highly hopeful that the current leadership crisis in the party can be resolves, he called on party members, particularly the leadership to resolve the issues”, the source hinted.

Some of the state chairmen of the party present at the declaration included Lagos, Bayelsa, Edo, Pleatue, Gombe, Jigawa and the ‎zonal chairman of North-west, North-east, North-central, South-west and South-south. Therefore, elaborate or not, official or unofficial; unlike before when he never said it, what is important is that Lamido had made his intention abundantly clear. It is therefore not out of place to begin to evaluate the implications.

Ordinarily, in 2019, the expectation is that President Muhammadu Buhari should have a second term. In such a case, the presidency of the All Progressives Congress remains in the north. Already, the PDP too had already signified that its presidency would also go to the north. That will imply two things. First, most of the parties will present candidates from the north. Second is, the north is going to be divided along party lines and that can trigger a political upset that may in turn demystify the numerical strength of the north.

The reason for the above permutation is simple. Lamido is a very detribalised person with many friends across the Niger and Benue rivers. Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo initially named him and former Rivers State governor and Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi as replacement ticket for former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan on the PDP platform in the last presidential election. He knows his worth politically. Just like President Buhari, Lamido, is from a royal Fulani family. He also has fanatical supporters in the north.

To his credit, he vehemently opposed the military rule of late General Sani Abacha. Abacha eventually threw him into prison without trial for speaking very strongly against his government. He joined other notables such as former vice president, Alex Ekwueme, Jerry Gana, Solomon Lar, Adamu Ciroma, Aminu Wali and others to form the PDP. Lamido is very brave and outspoken. He was one of the rare voices that persistently cautioned former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan against taking some political moves. It was then that he told Jonathan that getting the PDP ticket would not guarantee his second term.

Though of the same Fulani stock as Buhari, it is obvious that he is not one of the president’s fans. He had been criticizing Buhari long before the later won the 2015 presidential election. For instance, in the build up to the 2015 presidential election – the period when the four parties agreed to form the APC, Lamido described Buhari as ‘naïve.’

While answering questions from journalists he said then: “It is not so lost on us of some parties that see Buhari as their industry. So they hang unto him and because he is very naïve, he thinks they are serious.” Asked if he thought Buhari was naïve, he said: “Absolutely! He is politically naïve. Yes, he is politically naïve. Absolutely!

I would say he should be walking with his eyes wide open because those around him in 1999 were somewhere else. Were they with him? Our people will say if you see a horse fully dressed walking alone in the forest, it must have thrown the owner off. Don’t ride it because it threw somebody away. I have been wondering; they abused the PDP that we are murderers, party of riggers, a party of whatever – it is evil. Fine! Why do they want murderer governors in their midst? Why do they want us to be there? Number two, this so called APC is again what you call political fraud because you may change the nomenclature – change it ten times over, did the people come from heaven? They are the same old people. You see, to me, I laugh at it more because the entire contraption is a creation of pain and anger. It is not about Nigeria. They are people who failed to make it in their political parties who think by coming together they can make it. If you input one PDP governor in APC, they will collapse. It will collapse.”

A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lamido has taken several swipes at Buhari. Recently, in April, while speaking with the BBC Hausa Service, in reaction to the discovery of huge amount of money in an apartment in Ikoyi, he said that Buhari did not pass as a saint because he was “equally corrupt when he served under the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.”

According to him, “He (Buhari) worked under Abacha; in fact, he was the closest to the late military ruler and when it comes to corruption, everybody knows where Abacha’s government stands.” Lamido said further that “Buhari is just making noise. There’s no iota of truth in the so-called commitment to the improvement of security and halting graft in the country.

“It’s unthinkable to say that the EFCC had discovered huge monies (nearly N15 billion) in a building (Osborne Towers) in Lagos but could not track the real owner; who leaked the story? Who did the source say is the owner of the money?” he queried.

Though his party, the PDP, has remained in a leadership tussle that has almost decapitated it but Lamido has begun to match his word with action. He is already making moves to actualise his ambition by meeting with critical stakeholders in the party.

He was recently in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital in company of his Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Aminu Abdullahi Taura; Director of Press, Umar Kyari and his personal assistant, Umar Danjani and others. He held a meeting with his supporters drawn from the six South-west states. The South-west coordinator of the PDP Consultative Forum, Rasaq Aka and the Oyo State coordinator, Adeolu Adekunle, were present. They both urged PDP members to forge a common front if they truly wish to return to power.

The position taken as contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting was that Lamido performed creditably well as Jigawa State governor and that at a time like this Nigerians needed a true and unbiased democrat like Lamido at the helms of affairs in the country. He was encouraged to vie for the party’s presidential ticket. The PDP consultative forum members are also solidly behind him.

For whatever it is worth, Lamido’s decision to join the presidential race is poised to introduce new dynamics to the 2019 presidential election. Considering his antecedent, he will be a formidable force, if peradventure he wins the PDP ticket.

QUIT NOTICE TO IGBO SCARY

Sule Lamido

Former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido yesterday said the quit notice given to Igbo to leave the North by a coalition of some northern groups is scary because of what it may lead to.

Lamido made the assertion in his Bamaina country home while hosting his supporters to breaking of Ramadan fast, saying such statement could easily undermine the already fragile unity of the country.

The former governor who recently declared his aspiration to run for the presidency under his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accused the present leadership of lack of capacity to maintain the unity of the country.

He blamed the media over how it has been portraying the ultimatum, saying, “There are things we shouldn’t write because of their consequences.

“It is easier to say pack and leave but would our leaders be able to contain the consequences that may ensue?” he asked

Consultation mode activited, Mohd Abdu Dutse for Jigawa 2019
Every four years, candidates from both parties make similar promises, and I expect this year will be no different. All of us running for this governorship will travel around the state offering ten-point plans and making grand speeches; all of us will trumpet those qualities we believe make us uniquely qualified to lead this state of ours. But too many times, after the election is over, and the confetti is swept away, all those promises fade from memory, and the lobbyists and the special interests move in, and people turn away, disappointed as before, left to struggle on their own.
That is why this campaign can't only be about me. It must be about us -- it must be about what we can do together. This campaign must be the occasion, the vehicle, of your hopes, and your dreams. It will take your time, your energy, and your advice -- to push us forward when we're doing right, and to let us know when we're not. This campaign has to be about reclaiming the meaning of our state the new world, restoring our sense of common purpose, and realizing that few obstacles can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.
May almighty set us on real rail!
