Nigerians react as the Central Bank of Nigeria bans cryptocurrency exchange in the country.

In a circular, making rounds on social media on Friday afternoon, and critically seen by Rayoonline, the Nigerian bank regulator ordered deposit money banks, non-bank financial institutions, and other financial institutions to “identify persons and/or entities transacting in or operating cryptocurrency exchanges within their systems and ensure that such accounts are closed immediately. “

Reacting to this, Twitter users have lambasted the Central Bank of Nigeria for banning banks from processing cryptocurrencies.

Amotekun Corps, Oyo State chapter on Tuesday said it had recovered from Bandits and Kidnappers, eight sacks containing charms, amulets and weapons.

The Corps stated that through the aid of hunters, it had rid the forests of bandits and kidnappers, which they used as cover to attack farms.

The Chairman of ‘Amotekun’ in the state, General Kunle Togun (rtd), confirmed this in a statement issued.

He said: “We have arrested these bandits and disarmed them through the support we got from the Oyo State chapter of the Hunters Association of Nigeria.

“The hunters know the terrain and have spiritual power to disarm these foreign bandits. That was why we sought their collaboration.

“As I am speaking with you, we have seized about eight sacks filled with poisoned cutlasses, arrows, daggers and amulets from the bandits.

“We will not relent in flushing out these criminals. If they cannot peacefully contribute to the development of Nigeria’s economy, they have the liberty to relocate to their countries or any other country that allows their recklessness.”

The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) chairman, Akwa Ibom state chapter, Mr. Udo Ekpenyong, has been reported dead.

With no official statement yet on his death from either state government or the party in the state.

Ekpenyong was suspected to have died from COVID-19 complications in the early hours of Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

A 78-year-old man who has been blind in both eyes for 10 years has regained his sight after receiving the first implant of an artificial cornea developed by Israeli startup CorNeat, the company announced Monday.


The CorNeat KPro implant is designed to replace deformed, scarred or opacified corneas, and it integrates with the eye wall with no reliance on donor tissue.

Professor Irit Bahar, head of the Ophthalmology Department at Rabin Medical Center (formerly Beilinson Hospital) in Petah Tikva, performed the procedure.

Once the bandages were removed, the patient was able to recognize family members and read text.

“The surgical procedure was straightforward and the result exceeded all of our expectations. The moment we took off the bandages was emotional and significant.

Moments like these are the fulfillment of our calling as doctors. We are proud of being at the forefront of this exciting and meaningful project which will undoubtedly impact the lives of millions,” Bahar said.

CorNeat KPro inventor and company co-founder Dr. Gilad Litvin said, “Unveiling this first implanted eye and being in that room, in that moment, was surreal.”

Mr Abubarka Umar Bature has been appointed the new Commissioner of Police for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command, Lagos.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joseph Alabi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the new commissioner of police had assumed duty.

According to Alabi, Bature took over from Ndatsu Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Enugu State Command as Commissioner of Police.

“The new police commissioner who arrived on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the command’s headquarters, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, was received by officers at the command.

“Bature has served in so many commands such as Deputy Commissioner (DC), Operations, Gombe State, Deputy Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ibadan, Deputy Commissioner, Administration, Plateau.

He said the commissioner of police also served as the DC CID in Zamfara and DC, Katsina State Command.

“Bature was promoted as commissioner of police and was transferred to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command to oversee all the airports in Nigeria.

A Nigerian human rights activist named, Kenechukwu Okeke has been a significant subject on social media after he said he would sue international media body, CNN, for investigating the lekki massacre.

Ekohotblog recalled that CNN had revealed in a 5:50 minute video what happened on October 20, 2020, at the Lekki Toll Gate.

According to the CNN report, lives were lost and several others injured, which counters the government’s claim that there were no lives lost at the scene.

Shortly after the video went viral on Twitter, Kenechukwu Okeke took to his page condemning the act.

According to him, it is preemptive and contemptuous to discuss, counter, or conclude on any testimony placed before any tribunal established by law.

Okeke added that it is all an attempt to ridicule the nation and the sovereignty of the judiciary panel.

He noted that because of this, he would initiate criminal contempt proceedings against all the @CNN staff (without any exception) for deliberately ridiculing the majesty of the courts or any tribunal established by law in Nigeria.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered the revocation of Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT)’s bail.

Justice Okon Abang, who gave the order in a ruling, also issued a bench warrant for Maina’s arrest anywhere he is sighted.

The EFCC’s Lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar, while making the applications, had told the court that the former pension boss, who was granted bail in the sum of N500 million with a surety in the like sum, had jumped bail.   (NAN)

The Gombe State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Mela Audu Nunghe, has been raised to the position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), turning into the first indigene of the state to achieve the position.

Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who served as Bahrain’s prime minister since 1971, is dead at the age of 84, the royal court announced on Wednesday.

King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman mourned the late premier, who died at the Mayo Clinic hospital in the U.S state of Minnesota, the court said, according to the official BNA news agency.

According to unconfirmed report, Mr Akingbade Ishaq, a staff of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) LGEA EDUCATION SECTOR, Epe branch, Lagos, inflicted machete wounds on his wife, kicked her out of the house they reportedly built together and threatened to kill her and their children if she exposes him.

“This wicked man derives pleasure in beaten his wife often before he used matchet on her recently. The woman has been in bondage of this man for awhile before today.

He almost killed her before he sent her packing from his house. The same house they built together.

Three people have been nabbed for supposedly spreading counterfeit information on approaching assault in some communities in Southern Kaduna.

The three suspects were identified as Joel Luka, Emmanuel Daniel and Sylvester Daniel.

They were arrested at Sabon Kaura village, Zangon Kataf local government of Kaduna State by military intelligence and troops attached to the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

The Sector 7 Commander of OPSH, Col. David Nwakonobi, disclosed this on Tuesday, November 10, while receiving the Kaduna Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who visited the Sector 7 Headquarters on a working visit.

A 72-year-old journalist, Tom Uhia has been released after spending one month in detention following a complaint by a junior power minister Jeddy Agba.

Nigerian journalist Oga Tom Uhia who is the editor of Power Steering magazine was arrested on October 13 from his residence in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

He was nabbed by the police following a libel complaint filed against him by power minister Jeddy Agba, CPJ reported.

He was charged with 14 counts of defamation and injurious falsehood by the police. He denied all the charges.

The President said this on Monday at State House, Abuja, while receiving in audience the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, Nigeria’s former Minister of Environment.

“Our own generation is on the last lap, we are exiting,” President Buhari said in response to the recent EndSARS protest, and the mayhem and destruction of public and private property that came in its wake.

“It is in the interest of the youths to keep the peace. They want jobs, infrastructure and development. I have sent a team led by the Chief of Staff (Professor Ibrahim Gambari) to go round the country, talk to traditional rulers, who will then talk to the youths.

The views of the youths have been heard,” the President added.

YouTube star, Alyssa Anne Dayvault, has been jailed for 40 years after she dumped her two newborn babies in the trash.

The 32-year-old beauty blogger gave birth to a baby girl in 2017 followed by a baby boy in 2018.

She dumped both babies in the trash moments after birthing them. Dayvault, 32, skipped her trial in October and a jury convicted her of two counts of homicide by child abuse despite her absence.

She was sentenced on Thursday, October 5, to spend four decades in prison. Judge Steven John sealed her sentence until she was located and brought to Horry County Court.
