plaindealer: See, this is your problem, you obviously don't know anything about the plan and you haven't read it.
You are not giving away any land, the land is your investment to create an animal husbandry industry in your own state to generate income, jobs and IGR for you and your people, even the billions to kick off the project with is free, but all because of ignorance, tribalism and bigotry, you denied yourself a golden opportunity to progress, develop, to create jobs and generate IGR.
So, apart from making silly and pointless noise, do you mind sharing with us the solution your useless governors came up with apart from banning this and that?
All, talk, but zero common sense.
Ewu...no 1
If I may, I wish to engage you on an intelligent level and in so doing ask some questions. First I must admit I do not have all the details regarding RUGA, however it appears that this RUGA arrangement is primarily focused on CATTLES and not livestock in general. 2ndly, the international trade on PORK for instance, rivals, and many times suppases that of BEEF. Same case for international trade on FISH MEAL which is obtained from FISH. So why sir, if you know please enlighten me, is the Fed. Govt. not pursuing this other obvious ventures as it is doing for RUGA? |

[roam with makes no business sense if you are into diary business. Can you compare breeds that produces less than 5 litres of milk daily and the ones that produces up to 50 litres of milk daily?]
Nigeria that can't provide potable water for its citizens wants to manage new Jersey breeds of cows! Ekiti stats govt. should ask other state govts who have tried it in the past. Soon you will hear that the cows are being stole or that they are dying or the new government is not interested in the cow dairy project of the past govt. |

And is it possible to build the piggery like a storey building, where weaners can be accommodated upstairs while the weightier pigs be on the ground pens. Yes. It is possible to build piggery as a storey building. The challenge is the cost of making the decon (the suspended contrete floors) compared to buying more farmlands, (area for area) |

MANTLE111: pls Anyone in that understand heat synchronization in pig Hey, heat synchronization is serious high tech matter. ifyain: I have read all these write up and can believe all the people here are saying, piggery is not all that a profitable business. I am into it now for three years and can not even break even. the cost is very high. I buy spent grain at 65K, PKC,45K, petrol,20k, salary 30k,others 20k that is 180k for a month. I have about 60 pigs in my farm. AS you can see the maths does not add up. I will need to sell at least 10 pigs every month at 30k each total 300k to make profit. the piglet mortality is very high in piggery and these guys here will not tell about it. I regret going into it. It is almost impossible to get quality workers that knows anything about piggery in Nigeria. If YOU are struggling and need to survive then piggery might be for you but if you are an investor I will advice to you to be very careful so you do not waste your funds like me. Never go into any investment without proper guidance of a seasoned expert in that field of investment, even in piggery. |

Excelleon: I'm a young pig farmer and I've been on this forum for years but never posted a thing. This is for starters with less capital; from my experience I realized that renting a ready made pen at the inception of your business is wiser than acquiring land/building, you can later do that after making money from the business. Renting a pen will enable you to spend less on assets and more on the business itself(pigs) which is what will bring profits. I'm looking to set-up a corporative alongside other youth farmers, so we can access government loans and grants as a body. I have 2 colleagues here already and all I need is 5 more persons. I can help you secure a pen and quality animals here in Lag, and I'm also on ground to guide you. Note: I don't work for people, I will only show you what to do and guide you on everything you need to know, so you have to be serious and committed. Lastly, pls I don't want old people in this corporative cos I won't want anyone that will be acting like he/she gave others the money they invested with. Contact: 09024448262 Where in Lagos can you secure pig pen, am in need of pens. |

SinaAkinsanya: Though I am still learning and open to ideas from others, i have learnt a few things in the 3 years or so that i have been involved. 300k is not likely to feed 500 animals in a month except they are all weaners which is even doubtful. I recall the target is to get the animals to about 70 kg in about 6 months. That requires quality feed and animals. These days maize is about 145/kg, brewery waste 25/kg soy bean 150/kg, pkc 45/kg; cassava cake 100/kg, gnc 135/kg; wheat offal 2900/50 kg. There are additional cost for pre mix ; lysine, methione, drugs etc. Perhaps some of us have been paying too much for these ingredients. From experience, not to use those ingredients is to slow down the growth rate of even the purest lines. We started with concorted breeds and fed them with mostly pkc and brewery waste and got about 60-70 at best in 1 year. We introduced good lines of LR. Again fed them mostly with pkc and brewery waste and got at least 100 kg in one year. We introduced maize, soy bean etc and the growth rates of all our breed, concorted and pure lines improved dramatically. We are hoping to get 80-90 kg in about 7-8 months without the animals building up too much fats. Most of our pure lines reached the target in about 8 months even though we really did not start feeding them well until january this year. The pure line are intended for breeding and sale to others as breeding stock.
That has been our personal experience. Open to ideas particularly on where and how we can source cheap ingredients. Our experience on pure lines vs concorted breed is that pure lines will almost double concorted breeds in weight in about one year. please where do you get cassava cake at 100 per kg ? in fact, where do you even get the cassava cake? |
