Politics / Ondo: Nddc The Reason We Swapped Keyamo With Alasoadura by Montracine: 9:27am On Sep 25, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the immediate redeployment of two ministers of state.A statement from the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (OSGF) said Festus Keyamo leaves the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry as minister of state for the Labour and Employment Ministry in same capacity.

However, Senator Tayo Alasoadura on the other hand, headed for the Niger Delta Ministry as minister of state.Although the statement swapping Keyamo and Senator Alasoadura did not specify reasons, it was gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly acted on a request by the people of Ondo regarding their purported poor representation in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

While Ondo State indigenes expected the president to appoint one of them as the Minister of Niger Delta Ministry, they were forced to protest the predominance of Delta indigenes in the commission and ministry.

“Moved by the genuineness of the Ondo stance, President Buhari in his usual understanding decided to swap the two ministers of state for balance,” a source told The Guardian. He rejected suggestions by conspiracy theorists that Keyamo was moved following some revelations about use of campaign funds, stressing that “it is not the business of the presidency to start probing the use of funds four months after the election we won.”

It would be recalled that Keyamo was the Director of Publicity in All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Organisation. And although speculations were rife that he would be allotted the Justice portfolio, President Buhari named him a junior minister under the former Akwa Ibom State governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The fact that Keyamo, as counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was involved in the botched prosecution of the erstwhile governor for alleged corruption caused some hullabaloo shortly after the president allocated portfolios to the Next Level ministers.

The initial reaction of some Nigerians to the slight cabinet reshuffle was that the Presidency must have decided to avert the moral hangover that could cause some misgivings between Akapbio and Keyamo, by moving the Senior Advocate to the Labour and Employment Ministry.

Politics / Group Throws Weight Behind Rotational Governorship In Anambra by Montracine: 8:49am On Sep 25, 2019
– The clamour for Anambra State to retain rotation of the highest office in the state, the governorship seat, is growing as another group, Movement For Greater Anambra State (MOFGAS) throws its support behind the call. The first group to begin the agitation as Governor Willie Obiano’s tenure is gradually coming to the end was Greater Anambra Forum (GAFORUM). MOFGAS, a non-political pressure group, met in Awka and resolved not only to support rotation of the governorship seat but to campaign for citizens of the state to accept it. It will be recalled that MOFGAS played a leading role in shaping the political environment of the present
political arrangement.

Its chairman and chief campaigner, Chief Shadrack Anakwue who also championed Olu N’Adagbe, a pressure group that mobilised Anambra people and led the emergence of Chief Willie Obiano from Anambra North senatorial district emphasized that MOFGAS remains a pressure group. Anakwue told Daily Independent, “We are a pressure group, not a political party.
“We are in support of Anambra South producing the next governorship candidate to respect the zoning system. He submits, “We advise all the political parties to pick their candidates from Anambra South”.

Anakwue reiterated that zoning started in the state in 2002 when Dr Chris Ngige and then Peter Obi assumed office after Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju who was from Anambra South.

Politics / Mgbede Community In River State, The Most Neglected Community By Government by Montracine: 8:57pm On Sep 24, 2019
Mgbede Community in River State, the most neglected community by government in Nigeria? (Videos)

The Egbema people of rivers state seem to be the most hit by bad governance in Nigeria.

The Community primary school in Mgbede of Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government area of rivers state, a school where pupils sit on the floor to learn, a school whose classrooms have become public toilets, is the only Rivers State owned primary school and has long been abandoned to rot.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike, who in 2014 promised the people of fixing most of these issues even before he became the Governor of Rivers State has ever since not visited the community again, his aids according to sources don’t even want to meet with anyone coming from kingdom.

The Egbema people has long been forgotten even with their massive economic contributions to the entire nation. There are allegedly over 50 oil wells in this community and what this means is that the Nation makes at least $500,000 to a million dollars daily from the said community and this has happened for the past 54 years.

This same community is reported not to have a functioning government owned general hospitals. Sources around the community confirmed it that the only government owned hospital in the community has long been numb with just the mortuary slightly functioning. We were also informed that the only road (Federal Road) linking the community to the rest of rivers state has long been cut off.

When we spoke to one of the community persons, Onwuzuruike Lukeson Oguchi, he said contractors have always tried repairing the road every electioneering period but always leave immediately after elections. He went further to state that he believes the contract for the construction of that road may have been awarded up to 3 times with the monies meant for it going straight into private pockets and that there may be conspiracy between government and a few cabal from the region.

He also said the House of Representative Member representing the constituency (Hon. Prince Uchechukwu Nnam Obi) has never ever visited the community ever after 2015 general election but later came back to the community during this last election.

Politics / Umahi Sacks Media Aide For Alleged Misrepresentation On Livestock Programme by Montracine: 8:36pm On Sep 24, 2019
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Tuesday terminated the appointment of his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Emmanuel Uzor.

Mr Umahi in a WhatsApp message he sent to our reporter said he took the decision because Mr Uzor misrepresented him and Southeast governors in a statement he issued on the controversial National Livestock Transformation Programme.

The governor described the said statement by Mr Uzor as highly embarrassing and regrettable.

He said the position expressed by the sacked CPS was contrary to his on the issue.

The statement reads: “I just directed the termination of the appointment of my CPS for misrepresenting me and south-east governors on National livestock transformation plan programme of which I had issued a press statement on behalf of NEC after our last NEC meeting.

“My former CPS was never authorised to talk to the press on the matter. His position is different from mine and that of the south-east governors.

“His statement is so embarrassing and regrettable”, the governor wrote.

Mr Umahi directed Mr Uzor to hand over to his Principal Secretary, Clement Nweke, immediately.

Family / Benefits Of Marrying An Igbo Or Yoruba Girl By Adeyinka Akintunde by Montracine: 2:08pm On Sep 23, 2019
Love is a beautiful thing. The Holy Book says that it is not good for a man to be alone, and that a man must leave his father and his mother and will get married to his wife and the two of them will become one.

Marriage is revered and it is carefully entered into. A man is always careful to choose the wife he marries, as it is widely believed that 90 per cent of the success or failure of a person depends on the person he or she gets married to in life.
There are however things to know if a man gets married to a girl from the two major tribes in Nigeria. There are inherent benefits of marrying an Igbo girl from the South-East and a Yoruba girl from the South-West.

IGBO

One quick advantage to mention about Igbo girls is that it is widely argued that they are extremely beautiful and considered the best when it comes to cooking.
Other advantages may include:

1. She will raise your children with love and teach them local language

If you marry an Igbo girl, you can be sure that your children would speak the Igbo language whether you like it or not. She would raise the children with love and instill the right values and morals into them.
The Igbo people value their culture a lot and would make sure they pass something from it onto their children- your children.
This means that your children would be able to speak more than one language.

2. Her family members will always visit

There is nothing like total privacy if you marry an Igbo woman. Her family members would always visit and the house will always be full.
This has advantages and disadvantages as you may spend more seeing to their affairs while playing the perfect in-law but you can be sure it would be fun all the way.
This would make your wife happy and more contented.

3. They are very religious

Igbos are very religious people and their preferred religion is Christianity. Most Igbo girls are brought up in strict religious homes and as such, they have the fear of God and the belief in His supremacy instilled in them.
Even when they leave their parents, they still carry those values with them into their marriage and homes. So prepare yourself for church every Sunday, and get ready to observe religious holidays and church programmes once married to an Igbo girl, because they hardly compromise on this or convert to other religions

4. Do not cheat on an Igbo girl if you still want to live

They may not kill you physically but be sure that life will be very difficult for you and your mistress if you get caught. If you want to marry an Igbo girl, then you should know that as subtle and sweet as they are, they could be highly venomous when pushed and taken for granted.
They are not ladies who would fold their hands while you cheat on them. They would confront you and your lover with their findings and would deal with both successfully.

YORUBA

1. Yoruba girls are very respectful

The moment a child is born in Yorubaland every elder around him or her suddenly becomes his/her parent as he or she is not only restricted to receiving discipline from the biological parent. This has made it very easy to inculcate habits like being respectful in the young child.
Yoruba girls are brought up to totally give respect to whoever it is due. The Yoruba culture says that when a youngster meets an elder, she must kneel down to greet as a sign of respect.
This is a major reason why Yoruba ladies top the list of respectful tribes in Nigeria

2. Yoruba girls are hardworking

A lot of Yoruba girls grew up with the teachings of self-reliance. This is because at a tender age, they get taught how to do major household chores and how to exceptionally take care of the house, the man of the house and the children. So, it is safe to call a Yoruba girl a better “helpmeet”, as she would help with her hardworking, enterprising spirit in shaping your life.

3. Yoruba girls are highly Intellectual

A high percentage of Yoruba girls take school and education seriously. This gives them an edge over other ladies from other tribes in Nigeria.
A typical Yoruba girl would prefer to go to school, get her degrees and certificates before thinking of marriage, which is rare in some tribes. This help them plan their lives well enough; get prepared for the future before jumping into it.

4. Yoruba girls age gracefully

Because most Yoruba girls keep themselves before marriage, there are better chances for them to look way younger than their real age. They are ever agile even in old age to tend to their family. Just like fine old wine, Yoruba girls get stronger as they grow older.

So, guys, which one do you want?

Politics / NDF Warns Femi Gbajabiamila To Stop Playing Politics by Montracine: 5:40pm On Sep 22, 2019
playing politics with issues of national security and quit making utterances to derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
This caution trails Mr Gbajabiamila’s statement on Friday where he appeared to have berated the Service Chiefs for failing to honour an invitation to the lower chamber.

In a statement signed by Secretary-General, Dr Abdukakadir Bolaji, the NDF said it is appalled by the “careless utterances of the Speaker” who also vowed to report the Foreign Affairs Minister to the President over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

According to the group, there is a grand plot to discredit the administration of President Buhari and Mr Gbajabiamila appears to be in the forefront.
However, The National Democratic Front advised the Speaker not to return to the era where instead of parliamentary functions, the legislature issued summons to heads of critical agencies as bait for extortion.

The NDF, therefore, urged Mr Gbajabiamila to retrace his steps and not bow to any pressure to derail the country’s democracy.

Read the full statement below:

We welcome you all to the Press Conference that has become inevitable due to the flamboyance and overreaching disposition of some elected political office holders in the country whose actions and inactions are buoyed by the need to make headlines in the national dailies at all cost, not minding the effect on the overall interest of the country.
As you all may be aware, the National Democratic Front (NDF) has been on the front burner on issues such as good governance and accountability on the part of political office holders in Nigeria.
Consequently, our attention has been drawn to statements credited to the Honourable Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila wherein he berated the refusal of the Service Chiefs to attend a meeting with him over killings in the country.
In another vein, Mr Speaker also threatened to report the Foreign Affairs Minister to the President over the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The National Democratic Front is appalled by the careless utterances of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, which by and large presents a despicable picture to members of the unsuspecting general public on how some political office holders though holding sensitive positions of authority, but not in tune with the realities on the ground in the country.
The statements by the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives gives a picture of one that is deluded by the paraphernalia of the Office of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives to think that the Federal House of Representatives is a parallel government in Nigeria.
The carelessness, as well as the recklessness in the statements credited to the Speaker, is indicative of a grand plot by some unscrupulous elements within and outside government circles to discredit the efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, as well as the securing the lives and properties of Nigerians in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
This is given the undeniable fact that the security of lives and properties is the primary responsibility of government and the Muhammadu Buhari led administration has been tackling the various issues with all the seriousness that it deserves.
It is indeed ironic that the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives has chosen the dishonourable path of displaying arrogance and blind ambition to play to the gallery on issues of national interest to the detriment of over 180 million Nigerians.

The National Democratic Front (NDF) views with bewilderment that the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives either by omission or commission is not aware of the various efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari administration in addressing the issues in South Africa.

In the same vein, Mr Speaker must quickly come to the realization that the Service Chiefs were appointed by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and as such, they are not subject to his whims and caprices, and neither are the Service Chiefs at his beck and call.
The National Democratic Front is of the opinion that Mr Speaker should be aware of the electrifying schedule of the Service Chiefs and come to the realisation that they cannot abandon the business of National Security for summons and meetings at the slightest of calls.

Mr Speaker must also realize that the business of national security is not rhetoric. It requires a high level of strategic thinking, which has been the case since 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed leadership of this country, and Mr Speaker must not be seen as working against this interest by virtue of the position he occupies.
The National Democratic Front is however convinced that the utterances by Mr Speaker are not products of substance abuse or insanity as some would want us to believe or even the baggage of dishonesty being bandied around about his criminal conviction in the United States of America.

The National Democratic Front wishes to advise Mr Speaker not to succumb to the pressure of returning to the era where members of parliament turned oversight functions and summon to heads of critical agencies as bait for extortion because that era is Gone with the Wind and any attempt to reintroduce it might come with its attendant consequences.

Whatever the case, The National Democratic Front candidly advises Mr Speaker to retrace his steps and not bow to any pressure to derail our democracy for this is not the time to play to the gallery for the task at hand requires all hands to be on deck.

Politics / Ibrahim Babangida (IBB's) Message To Igbos by Montracine: 9:08am On Sep 22, 2019
Former military leader, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), on Saturday urged Igbos to ensure that Nigerians continue to feel their positive impact.

He said this was due to their tenacity in business enterprises which spans the length and breadth of the country and beyond.

Babangida made the remark in Minna, when the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA), from the 19 Northern states and Abuja, visited him for his recent 78th birthday.

The delegation was led by the IDA president, Chief Chikezie Okezie and the Eze Igbo of Minna, Eze Pampas Wahiwe.

“You should continue to allow your positive impacts to be felt among host ethnic nationalities in the country, as you explore business opportunities available.

“Nigerians, Igbos inclusive, should ensure they uphold the ideals of Nigeria’s founding fathers.

“An indivisible Nigeria is very necessary and we must do everything possible to remain as one family, though we differ in tribe and tongue,” he said.

He appreciated the Igbos for being very enterprising and determined to succeed by penetrating the nooks and crannies of the country for business exploits.

“You should use the same spirit of enterprise to promote peaceful co-existence among Nigerians, in all that you are doing.

“You have done well to keep Nigeria together. The Igbos are known to have the potentials of travelling far and wide, exploring new frontiers and business opportunities,” he said.

Okezie prayed to God to continue to grant IBB the strength and wisdom to offer advice that would help Nigeria in tackling its various challenges.
“As an elder statesman, your wise counsel is very much needed at this point in our national life,” he said.

Politics / Group To Summon Abia Gov To Anambra Over Ruga Settlement by Montracine: 10:06am On Sep 17, 2019
Irked by the rumored ceding of lands to the Federal Government for Ruga Settlements by the Abia State governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State indigenes living in Anambra State under the aegis of Abia indigenous forum(AIF) has said that they have put the necessary motion in place to invite the state governor to Anambra State to clarify the issue to them as well as other problems confronting the state noting that they are visibly disturbed on how the entire South East Governors are treating the issue of ruga settlements which had led to insecurity in South East.

Making this known to newsmen while appraising the general security situation in Southeast in Nnewi last Monday, Hon. Arunsi Uka the chairman of the group flanked by Hon Ozone Kalu, the secretary told newsmen that they decided to invite the governor of their state Dr. Ikpeazu to Anambra to enable him explain to the teeming Abia indigenes in Anambra what the state is doing to ensure that insecurity is checkmated as well as first hand information on his programmes and efforts he is putting to develop Abia State.

They said they were tired of fake stories on the performance of the governor and how the state is fairing, the duo noted that the entire state citizens in Anambra want to know what is going on in the area of education, healthcare, security, road construction, provision of potable water, youth employments and empowerment, sports etc.

On recent lull on maintenance of security in Enugu State, Uka said this is another of their worries and enjoined other governors like Gov. Willie Obiano, Dave Umahi and that of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha to pool their resources together to ensure that there is a strong synergy between all the states in the Southeast to prevent what happened in Enugu State from spilling over to other states even as he expressed happiness on the recent measure adopted to tackle it by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Politics / Governor Appoints 800 New Aides by Montracine: 8:48am On Sep 17, 2019
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has announced his plan to appoint 800 aides, in addition to the 4,000 appointments already made by his administration.

Mr Umahi said this on Monday in Abakaliki when he met with members of the state executive council (EXCO), state House of Assembly, Local Government Area (LGA) chairpersons and all the new appointees, among other stakeholders.

The governor said that, in spite of an initial 185 Executive Assistants (EAs), Senior Technical Assistants (STAs) and Technical Assistants (TAs), he made an additional 200 similar appointments on Monday.

He said: “We would be getting about 800 EAs, STAs and TAs by the end of this meeting and from this moment, the task of making similar appointments is taken from me and given to the people from the ward level.

“This means that we will appoint three more TAs from each ward of the state and the stakeholders will sit and nominate two, while the party – the Peoples Democratic Party – (PDP) will nominate one.

“The criterion used was that not all the past appointees returned but 80 per cent of the appointments included former appointees, especially those who did well,” Mr Umahi said.

He said that the EXCO met on Monday to approve the remuneration of the new appointees because it was in its power to do so.

“The EAs will receive N150,000 (N100,000 salary and N50, 000 for overhead costs), while the STAs will receive N120,000 (N80,000 salaries and N40, 000 for overhead cost).

Politics / Yabagi Sani: South-East Leaders Treating IPOB Issue With Kid Gloves by Montracine: 6:00am On Sep 17, 2019
Engr. Yabagi Sani, National Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP) in this interview with
JOY ANIGBOGU, spoke on the role of youths in national development, recent activities of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and other issues. Excerpts:

Recently you held a maiden national youth summit. What did you plan to achieve?

We believe that for youths to bounce back to reckoning, they need the backings and support of governments. They have to be educated, employed and empowered socially, politically and financially.
Unfortunately the leadership cadre in Nigeria is filled with aged politicians who think nation building is their exclusive preserve and as such youth should not be given a chance. Perhaps, their stand explains why though youths are said to be leaders of tomorrow, that future never comes.

The national youth summit is another testimony to the pride of place ADP has for young men and women as well as persons living with disability who by the ADP compulsory and constitutional provisions, must occupy 25 percent of Party Executive and all other elective and appointive positions from the National, State, Local Government down to the unit level.
Hence our decision to hold this Youth Summit, the first of its kind in the history of our Party, with the theme: “Building Bridges Amongst Youth Across Continents” and the reason we have invited one of the youngest members of the British Conservative Party with a rising profile from the United Kingdom, “Mr. Jaymey Mclvor” as our Guest Speaker.

How can you describe the recent activities of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) abroad, attack of Ekweremadu in Germany and their attempt to meet with Mr. President in Japan?

The IPOB activity can be viewed from both political and economical angles. When people start thinking that they are not part and parcel of what should belong to them, there is problem. If the unemployment level is not as high as it is I don’t think people would want to leave the country, because they have seen that nothing is happening that would give them confidence, that is why what happened in Japan took place in the first place. I think that the political aspect of it is what the president should be able to solve but also my message to the South East is that if they want to have leadership of the country, they should exhibit discipline and maturity. Today we are talking about power shift and the South-East says power should return to them. It is a political issue that the South-East at this time should understand that what happened in Japan gave them a bad name. Would Mr. President hand over power to his enemies if he has to make that choice? The reality is that Nigeria as we have today would go beyond where we are when power at national level ceases to be an issue based on merit.

What is your view about the opinion in some quarters that Mr. President is treating Fulani herders with kid’s gloves?

Being a former head of State, I cannot see any reason why he cannot take effective measures to handle the issue of Fulani herdsmen, banditry, kidnapping and what have you. If the president cannot take care of the security and welfare of the people, what is the use of the government if it cannot tackle the issue of security and welfare of the people? Whatever it is that is standing between the president and these issues. I think that by now he should have been able to jettison those things.

Do you believe in power shift in the country?

As a political party, we are for all-inclusiveness. We believe in justice and fair play. We allow democracy to have its way because when you allow democracy to have its way then you can begin to talk about good governance. The reality we have today in terms of deciding who gets what, I think the South-East people should do better if they begin to act with maturity and sense of responsibility. What is four years in the life of a nation? If in four years’ time you are going to have the opportunity to rule the country, wait until it comes to you, then do what you like with it. When you start to act not only in the country but outside the country, giving the country a bad name, the consequences may be huge when you need the support of other regions. People would begin to ask if they share the sentiments of one Nigeria. I know that in Nigeria if care is not taken, because the impression that the South-East may likely want to consider seceding, Yoruba may take the next presidency, in spite of the fact that they have just finished. If you see that the South-East cannot be controlled with what IPOB is doing, then why do you want to give power to those who cannot control their erring members?

What if the South-East region refutes the allegation that IPOB represents it?

A question was asked as to why President failed to control the Fulani herdsmen because they believe that Buhari is a Fulani man and should be able to take care of them. Similarly people can start inferring that South-East should be able to take care of IPOB. Just as you can say that Buhari has failed because you think that he possesses other avenues he can explore aside being the president to solve this problem. We can also say that for reasons best known to the South-East people, they are treating IPOB with kids gloves. We saw the case of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), former President Olusegun Obasanjo ordered they be shot at sight, but we saw some governors of the South-West using them, till today. It will do the South-East good to tackle the issue of IPOB, just like Buhari should call Fulani herdsmen to order.

El-Rufai has said that the North will not handover power in 2023. What is your view?

He was probably speaking for All Progressives Congress (APC) not ADP.

What do you think about the speculation in some quarters that Buhari is planning to handover to Tinubu?

It is not exclusive right of APC to present the next president. Nigerians should decide who would emerge and not APC. The APC would bring its candidate and others too would bring theirs and Nigeria would decide who the next president would be. Awakening the consciousness of the people and making sure that the electoral laws are amended to give level playing ground, ensuring that power is held accountable. Nigerians should speak out. The important thing is that the press must be alive to the need to change the scenario. It should be in the vanguard. Systems that are more entrenched than Nigeria did it. We had Obama as president of United Sates of America. We also have Trump, which is more revolutionary. It means that change is possible.

Don’t you think that it was unfair for the president to have asked the Governors of Taraba and Benue States to answer questions to the killings in Taraba, when we know that governors are not in control of the military and police?

They are the security chiefs in their States. Administratively, the commissioner of police is under the governor but functionally he is under the Inspector General of Police (IGP) which means that they are supposed to explore the administrative relationship between the commissioner of police and the governors to ensure that some of those things happening are checked. The commissioner of police and other agencies in that State sit in a security meeting every week. If the President asked the governors to account, he was right because the governors are heads of the security meetings that they hold in their States.

Politics / Yoruba Leadership Crisis: Falae, Yce, Others Disagree Over Akintoye’s Choice by Montracine: 4:53pm On Sep 16, 2019
MIXED reactions have continued to trail the acceptance of Prof. Banji Akintoye as the leader of the Yoruba nation.

Akintoye was elected as Yoruba leader by various Yoruba organisations on August 22 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The emeritus Professor of History at a news conference in Lagos organised to give his acceptance of the election, said that what the nation needed was a Yoruba leadership that would be non-partisan.
Meanwhile, mixed reactions have elicited Akintoye’s acceptance.
While some Yoruba groups chided the former lawmaker for accepting the position, others said it was a welcome development.

Akintoye can’t speak for Yoruba – Falae

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae, yesterday, insisted that the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti remains the leader of the Yoruba.
Falae said: “If the 50 to 60 million Yoruba have met and have chosen anybody as a leader that is okay but have they met? A handful of people can always meet to say they have chosen a leader for that handful group, not for Yoruba people or Afenifere.
“Certainly I am not one of those who elected a Yoruba leader. The Afenifere leader, Papa Fasoranti is the person we recognised as the leader of the Yoruba.
“There is no position called the Yoruba leader. Afenifere stands for the Yoruba as a proxy in times of crisis, defend the Yoruba and therefore, earns the respect of the Yoruba nation that is why we call Papa Fasoranti the leader of the Yoruba.

“Let me remind us that in 1967 when the national crisis was up, the leaders of opinion from various areas and communities decided to meet. The Yoruba Leaders of Thought met in Ibadan and decided to offer the position of the Yoruba leader to Papa Obafemi Awolowo who refused and said that the Yoruba by our nature can never be monolithic. The Yoruba organisation is like the Greek city-state, each headed by an Oba.
”We are all one people but semi-autonomous. Awolowo said he could only take the position for the duration of the crisis because he knew that after the crisis each group will go back to its base. That’s Awolowo and I am sure my friend, Banji Akintoye, knows what I am talking about. So, if some people call any person leader of Yoruba, they are free to say so but that does not mean that the rest of us should take notice of such action.”

It’s a welcome development — YCE

Reacting to Akintoye’s acceptance, the Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, said his (Akintoye’s) choice is a welcome development.
Secretary-General of the council, Dr. Kunle Olajide said the unity agenda he hinged his acceptance speech on is what the Yoruba nation needs at this time.
Olajide said: “I was impressed by his acceptance speech. What is paramount to the Yoruba nation at this time is unity which he spoke extensively on in the speech. But, Prof Akintoye needs a lot of leg walk and consultation to broaden his support. Whether he will handle this well or not, time will tell.”
Also, the Convener of Voters Assembly, Comrade Mashood Erubami, said his leadership will only be acceptable to all Yoruba if people like Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and his numerous loyalists support him.
Erubami said: “There is nothing wrong in appointing him as the Yoruba leader and his nomination is very appropriate but it is not acceptable to all Yoruba nation. He can only be acceptable to all Yoruba if somebody like Tinubu and his loyalists accept his leadership. If not, it will be difficult for him because it was just a group that nominated him without the inputs of other prominent Yoruba people and organizations present.”
But the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, in Ekiti State, described the acceptance as a huge joke.
Afenifere Chairman in Ekiti State, Chief Biodun Akin Fasae, said: “ Afenifere Ilosiwaju Yoruba has nothing to do with any Yoruba group picking its leader. No single Yoruba group has the prerogative of appointing a leader for the whole race.”

Akintoye is leader of his group — Prof. Ajala

On his part, a Professor of Anthropology, Aderemi Ajala described the purported election as self-serving.
Speaking with Vanguard, Ajala said: “It is an aberration to elect a leader for the race, rather leadership among the race is usually through a charismatic disposition of the individuals, Late (Obafemi) Awolowo, Bola Ige, Abraham (Adesanya) and (Adekunle) Ajasin all emerged through consensus. Yoruba sees virtues in leaders before accepting them.
“You should not forget that the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) was created to fight the Afenifere by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and besides, he was elected by a faction of the group, so he only emerged as the leader of his group.
But if he has the charisma and can speak for Yoruba with courage he would eventually be accepted by many. But another problem he is likely to face is identifying the interest of the Yoruba considering the socio-political complexities in the country or within the region presently.”

Politics / In Case You Missed It - CAN Condemns Demolition Of Jigawa Churches by Montracine: 10:51am On Sep 15, 2019
The Jigawa branch of Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the demolition of churches by the Jigawa State Government in the state capital , Dutse .
Some of the demolished churches were built over 10 years ago , a communique on Tuesday by the state CAN Chairman , Rev . Yakubu Musa , stated .

The association explained that the government had been turning down application for registration of land document by churches in spite of intervention by numerous stakeholders in the state .
The Christian body stated that due to the government ’ s refusal to grant land permits, the District Head of Dutse had started making moves to demolish churches without the option of relocating them to alternative sites .

“ This unbecoming stance informed the summoning of a meeting by the Secretary to the State Government on November 24 , 2016 via a circular dated November 21 whereby the Galadima of Dutse flaunted a list of scanty mosques in each state in southern Nigeria , juxtaposing it with the number of churches in Dutse , which informed his decision to back the demolition of churches in Dutse , ” the statement added .

CAN further dismissed as untenable, the claim by the government that the demolished churches were built in residential areas , it lacked moral justification .
‘’ This is because a number of mosques were equally built in the said areas where churches were also built , ” he averred , insisting that in a democratic society where the rule of law and equality before the law existed , government and its agencies were obliged to abhor selective justice.

The association noted , “ From the ongoing demolition of churches, it is crystal clear that the government of Jigawa State is no longer comfortable with the existence of non - indigenes in their state as they are already in the process of commencing a fresh demolition of the remaining churches that are yet untouched.

“ We equally use this medium as a body of Christians to inform Nigerians that there was neither prior notice of demolition served on the owners of the demolished properties nor was CAN served demolition notice . ”
Efforts to get the reaction of the Jigawa Urban Development Agency was unsuccessful as its Managing Director , Garba Isa , could not be reached on the phone.

Politics / Wike: Why I Congratulated Buhari On Tribunal Victory by Montracine: 3:15pm On Sep 12, 2019
Why I congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari by Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has explained that he congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal confirmed his election because it is better to offer public congratulations than visit the President at night.

Governor Wike said that unlike some Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) who visit President Muhammadu Buhari at night, he made his declaration public because it came from the heart.

He spoke at the Funeral Service in honour of Late Madam Blessing Awuse, Mother of Onha Sergent Chidi Awuse, at the St Luke's Anglican Church, Emohua on Thursday.

He said: " I am sure all of you are surprised that I congratulated Buhari. Is it not good for me to congratulate him, than to go to his house in the night?"

"So many PDP Govenrors go to see him in his house in the night. I have never gone and I will not go. I won't go."

"We are the only state that the Federal Government refused to pay us our money used to execute Federal projects because I don't go to see him in the night and I won't go. He is not my friend, he is not doing well, but he won in court, should I say that the court did wrong, no."

"President Buhari, congratulations and carry Nigerians along. Unify the country, the country is too divided. I am saying what is right. What I will do, I will do, what I will not do, I will not do".

Governor Wike said politics is a game of interest, noting that Rivers people in the All Progressives Congress are under obligation to attract Federal benefits to the state.

'Politics is a game of interest. And my only interest is Rivers State . Anything that is against the interest of Rivers State, I will not agree.

"These people sold us out, thinking that they are doing Governor Wike. It is the State that you are offending, because I am just one person ".

Governor Wike expressed displeasure that Rivers State has key links to President Muhammadu Buhari from the State, yet the East West Road, the seaports and other Federal projects have been completely neglected since 2015. He said nothing indicates that Rivers State has prominent APC members working with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Rivers State Governor maintained that Rivers State is a Christian state. He said that the facts of Rivers being a Christian State will not be changed by negative propaganda and falsehood targeted at his person. He said he never demolished a Mosque as was falsely circulated by some mischief makers.

He said Rivers State is a major oil producing State that deserves major projects from the Federal Government.

"We produce oil . They should not punish Rivers State because of me. I am just one individual. We have not benefited anything from the Federal Government. The only thing we have benefited is the abuse they heap on me.

"They turned the NDDC into a cash cow to sponsor elections against us. Nobody protested that anomaly. Now they want us to protest because someone did not nominate the management of NDDC this time.

"Since 2015, NDDC has not had its governing board, but nobody protested. I will not be dragged into such protests ", he said.

On the passage of Late Mrs Blessing Awuse, Mother of Ohna Sergeant Awuse, Governor Wike said she lived a fulfilled life and raised disciplined and trustworthy children. He said that her burial is a celebration of life.

Chief Mourner, Ohna Sergeant Awuse thanked the Rivers State Governor for his love and friendship. He said the Rivers State Governor always intervenes at the most critical time.

Anglican Bishop of Ikwerre Diocese, Rt Rev Blessing Enyindah praised the Rivers State Governor for his commitment to the development of the state.

He urged the Rivers State Governor to continue with his good works. He said that Governor Wike should focus on the people in all his programmes.

Politics / IPOB: Enemy Of Democracy by Montracine: 11:54am On Sep 10, 2019
The increasing notoriety of the IPOB, this time as an external terror group, is yet another baffling example of the rising profile of counter-democratic forces in Nigeria. Gone are the days when the most potent threat to democracy was the military coup. The barrel of the gun has now been effectively replaced by the brigandage of rogue civilian individuals and groups who absurdly insist on realizing their rabid political interests by undermining established constitutional democratic institutions and processes.
The IPOB exists on the extremist edge of such political derangement, possessed by the “actualization” of the dead and buried corpse of Biafran “nationality”, as its crazy cause. Under the misguidance of Nnamdi Kanu, a queer non-entity who lived mostly in the UK as a south London DJ with dual British-Nigerian citizenship, IPOB, which rose from the debris of its predecessor MASSOB, took on the outlandish agenda of agitating for the “Independence and Restoration of the defunct state of Biafra”.

Coming almost four decades after the generality of Igbos had re-integrated themselves into the post-war “no victor, no vanquished” Nigeria as fellow citizens across the land, exhuming Biafra as a political objective was an unthinkable farce and an abominable re-opening of healing wounds of war. But there was clearly something sinister behind the emergence of Kanu, wearing a Jewish prayer shawl and claiming to be a Jew, while fanning embers of ethnic rebellion to dismember his fatherland in inciting broadcasts from his London based Radio Biafra.

It was no surprise that Kanu eventually focused on “guns and bullets” aimed at “Fulani herdsmen” before coming to Nigeria to, as it were, ignite the timed upheavals of provocative posturing against law enforcement and peaceful co-existence with his rapidly revitalized private army. He had no qualms in literally imposing his delusional leadership over the mandates of elected governors in his south-eastern pockets of influence and exhibiting daring defiance of court bail conditions and the wise counsel of respected elders and statesmen to exercise caution and restraint.
Only the no-nonsense “Python Dance” military operation decisively ended Kanu’s disaster-seeking daydreams and forced him to take to his heals in a clandestine escape that not only betrayed the zombie-loyalty of his “troops” but also lent credence to his mercenary mission as an agent provocateur. More devastating however was the quandary in which he left the so-called Igbo leaders who, in their own moment of myopic opportunism, dramatically embraced the irreverent rebel as their “son” and facilitated his bail apparently for pre-election interests.

The latest outing of Kanu’s IPOB followers in Europe as the terrifying enforcers of former Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu’s “Nuremburg Trials”, and threats to launch similar physical assaults against Igbo leaders, including elected governors, who visit Europe henceforth, is an indication of the IPOB determination to constitute an external and internal counterforce to the stability of our democracy. It has also been rightly viewed by Ohaneze NdIgbo and the south east governors as a direct attack on their mandates as recognized leaders of the Igbo which could indeed challenge the sustainability of democracy in the south east.

The unsettling scenario of the potential danger that the activities of IPOB pose to the integrity and survival of Nigeria’s democratic dispensation takes on an ominous implication in the face of Kanu and the IPOB’s glaring lack of credibility or popular mandate to so forcefully demand the actualization of Biafra. They willfully refuse to recognize the right of all Igbos to vote for or against the proposition, as stipulated in the constitution.

If this is not akin to a coup d’etat in the making, it surely looks like one. In which case the Federal Government must take a renewed serious view and take necessary action to deal decisively with the looming threat to our democratic dispensation. Particular concern should be directed at the international dimension of the IPOB menace, especially the seemingly duplicitous stance of the British Government , which provides a safe haven for Kanu and his Radio Biafra to launch attacks against the Nigerian state. Even when Kanu was in legal custody in Nigeria, he was visited by members of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. There must be more than meets the eye in Britain’s interest in an enemy of Nigeria it brought up and granted citizenship but refuses to call to order!

It is worth restating that, notwithstanding the political heresy of advocating a Biafran “renaissance”, Kanu and his clique would not be seen as enemies of the nation state if they channeled their agitation through registered political parties and the National Assembly as they know they should instead of war-mongering and seeking to destabilize Nigeria. Their deliberate choice of counter-democratic pursuit of political aspiration exposes them as unapologetic saboteurs of the Nigerian state thereby deserving maximum deterrence by all means deemed fit.

Politics / We Can’t Stop Xenophobic Attacks – S/african Defence Minister by Montracine: 6:48pm On Sep 09, 2019
Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, South Africa’s Defence Minister said on Monday that the attacks against foreigners in South Africa were planned by criminals and that government can’t prevent it.

Mapisa-Nqakula who said this in an interview with eNCA, a local channel described South Africa as an angry nation and insisted that the government can’t prevent the ongoing violence.

“The reality is that we have an angry nation. What’s happening can never be prevented by any government,” she said.
According to her the death of two people during a clash in Johannesburg CBD on Sunday Sept. 8, could have been avoided but that it was well orchestrated by criminal elements.
She however, said the xenophobic attacks were not politically motivated.
“People are saying some heads of state decided not to attend WEF; we should be talking about why this whole thing is coinciding with the World Economic Forum,” Mapisa-Nqakula said.
She said: “People are saying it is xenophobic attacks but it is not the first time we have had them in the past; here, we have criminals that have read the situation and are aware that we have challenges right now.

“We have talked on the issues of high rate of unemployment, of some foreign nationals who are not conducting themselves in an appropriate manner as we would expect, those breaking the bylaws of the country, and you now have criminal elements who have decided that we are going to use all of those things to find reasons to attack people.
“It is unfortunate and should not happen. The reality is that we need to have a serious dialogue about what is happening and we must take responsibility. The reality is that we are an angry nation and we must talk about it.
“Why are we an angry nation? Why are we so determined to collapse our project of nation building and social cohesion? We need to hold hands together between government and all state entities and the civil society and find solutions to what is happening,” Mapisa-Nqakula added (NAN)

Politics / We Are Endangered In Benue – Igbo Residents Cry Out by Montracine: 3:56pm On Sep 02, 2019
THE Igbo communities in various parts of Benue State, particularly in Gboko, have raised the alarm that their lives were no longer safe in the state.

They alleged that they have become endangered in the State following spates of targeted kidnappings and murder of Igbos by native gangs, suspected herdsmen and bandits.

According to prominent members of the Igbo community in Gboko led by a businessman, Chief Nnolim Okafor, “there is no week an Igbo person is not kidnapped or murdered in Benue State and we have been subjected to paying millions of naira in ransoms. We can no longer do our businesses freely for fear of being kidnapped or murdered. Since January this year, we have had over 50 Igbos kidnapped and some murdered in cold blood by bandits and suspected herdsmen.”

In a press briefing in Enugu, on Monday, Nnolim said that all efforts to get the security agencies and the Benue state government to address the matter have fallen on deaf ears. “Igbos in Benue State are being systematically decimated and our businesses are gradually being ruined by these kidnappers and bandits”, he lamented.

One of the businessmen, Mr. Ikem Ani also lamented that Igbos in Benue have been subjected to untold hardship and their lives no longer guaranteed.
According to him, “there is virtually no week that an Igbo person is not kidnapped. We have tried to engage the State Police Command to no avail. We are therefore crying out for the world to know the fate of Ndigbo in Benue State.

“We are now putting Ohanaeze Ndigbo on notice that we have become endangered in Benue State because what is happening to Igbos in Benue State is worse than what is happening to Ndigbo in the far north”, he stated.

It will be recalled that in recent times the spate of kidnaps and killings of persons of Igbo extraction in Benue State have risen to dizzying heights, prompting calls by an Igbo Youth group for the recalibration of the security architecture in Nigeria and especially in Benue State.

In a recent press statement, the group expressed dismay with the way reports concerning the security of Ndigbo in Benue State have been handled with levity and non-challenge by the security agencies in the State; warning that Igbos in Benue State may be forced into an aggressive defence of their lives and property.

Politics / Re: 2021: Chris Azubuogu For Governor Of Anambra State. by Montracine: 4:50pm On Sep 01, 2019
One of his major achievements is the attraction of the Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park, a project, if completed by the Federal Government, will turn the economic activities of Anambra State and also create thousands of employment.
Apart from his many projects, bills and motions, Hon. Chris Azubogu was very accessible, he picks his calls and respond immediately, his constituency office was open and very efficient. He was very humble that you can see him on the road and stop him.
For Hon. Chris Azubogu, contesting for the Third (3rd) time which have never happened in the history of his constituency was nearly a walkover despite the rotation agitations. The support he got in the three local governments in his constituency was massive, during his campaign, he was simply told to go and rest because his return to the Federal House of Representative was sure. Despite the propaganda against him, he won the election landslide to defeat his closest rival, Iju Nwabunike of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). Out of 89,964 of the total vote cast, Chris Azubogu garnered 54,533 votes to his credit, while Iju Nwabunike got 18,811 votes. It was indeed a victory that showed that the masses are satisfied with his performance.

Eight years ago, a relatively unknown Chris Azubogu was elected to represent Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), as a first timer, he appeared to have used his first three years to learn legislative process of the National Assembly, apart of the little empowerment programs he did and some projects he attracted, he didn’t do much, his presence was not felt in the Green chamber, however, because of his gentle disposition and his sincere approach to issues, while some were raising doubts about his competence, others believed that he deserves a second chance.
Fortunately for him, he got the ticket of his new party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to re-contest his position, after dumping his former party, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). He faced a very stiff opposition during the election, however, he emerged victorious despite allegation of manipulations that followed the election.
Going back to the House of Representative in 2015, we saw a reinvigorated Hon. Chris Emeka Azubuogu, a lawmaker who was responsive, articulate and visionary, he became a regular face in the legislative proceeding of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, as the Deputy Chairman and later acting Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, he became a rallying point for many lawmakers, on the floor of the House, Chris Azubuogu’s intellectual depth in issues of National interest made him valuable among his colleagues.
Back to his constituency, Hon. Chris Azubogu became known for construction of projects, he earned the name “Mr. Project” because of the hundreds of projects under his name. He started and completed the construction of over Thirty (30) different roads in most of the communities in his constituency. Infact, he was adjudged to have constructed more roads in his constituency than the State Government have done.

He attracted and distributed hundreds of street lights and Transformers in most communities in his constituency. On the area of education, he started and completed many classroom blocks for many schools in his constituency. Early last year, he distributed Science laboratory equipments worth millions of Naria to schools. He also embarked on building and equipping the Computer Laboratory of schools in his constituency. On the area of Youth Empowerment, he engaged the youths in different empowerment programs, last year, over Two Hundred and Fifty (250) youths in his Constituency, participated in entrepreneurial skills training, sponsored by him, he also distributed medical equipments to most hospitals in his constituency.
Politics / 2021: Chris Azubuogu For Governor Of Anambra State. by Montracine: 4:48pm On Sep 01, 2019
Azubogu was born in 1969 in Anambra State. He attended primary school in Nnewi and moved to Okongwu Memorial Grammar School for his secondary education. In 1985, that is where he got the WASCE (West African School Certificate). He didn’t stop there and continued his studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. In 1990, he got the Bachelor Degree in English.
He started his professional career working as a contractor. Azubogu soon continued to become a consultant for River State and then for Anambra State JAAc. Between 2009 and 2011, he also worked as a consultant in the Enugu State.
The first time he was chosen as a member of the Federal House of Representatives was in 2011. He was elected once again in 2015. On both occasions, he has represented the Nnewi South/North/Ekwusigu FC of Anambra. He is currently a member of Agriculture, Constituency Outreach, Governmental Affairs, House Services/Welfare, and Interior Committees.
It might be interesting to see the list of bills related to Azubogu. They include a proposal to modify the 1999 Constitution in section 15(1). According to the bill, the motto of the country should be “Justice and Equity, Peace and Progress” rather than “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.” The next in the list of bills is the one related to the establishment of the Emergency Management Agency.
According to the information on the Nigeria Governance website, Azubogu is married. However, there is no mention of his wife’s name.
The member of the House of Representatives was recently in the news because he decided to empower over 250 youths that completed the training for entrepreneurship skills. The goal of donating them between N20,000 and N30,000 was to help them on their way of establishing their own business.

Popularly called Mr. Project, Hon. Chris Azubogu is a clear representation that leadership is the ability to transform vision into reality. He has proven that despite the high expectations of the citizens from their leaders, representatives of the people can still endear themselves in the hearts of the populace by making appreciable impacts.

For Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu, it is the story of the quintessential legislator who has redefined representation in Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, it is story of the Engineer turned lawmaker who has been able to combine intelligence and brilliance to rally human and material resources to achieve predetermine developmental objectives in his constituency by changing it’s face of representation in the National Assembly, it is about the man who has become a mass movement not only in his constituency but beyond

Philippines reportedly lets Israelis go after massive cybercrime sting

After publicly arresting hundreds in huge bust, prosecutor general said to find 8 Israeli suspects hadn’t worked for the company in question

Authorities in the Philippines on Thursday released eight Israelis who were arrested last week for involvement in an online financial fraud, after the country’s prosecutor general reportedly ruled that they had nothing to do with the crimes they were accused of, according to a report on Israel’s Ynet news site which The Times of Israel was unable to independently verify.
Last week, Philippine police said they had arrested nearly 500 people — including the eight Israeli nationals — in one of the country’s biggest anti-cybercrime busts in years, alleging that they were involved in an international scam that victimized people overseas, including in Australia and South Africa.

But in a complete U-turn, Prosecutor General Jorge Catalan Jr. reportedly ruled that the Israeli suspects had not worked at the investment firm International Branding Development Marketing, Inc., known as IBD, when the company had allegedly committed the fraud against the complainants, and found that they hadn’t even been in the Philippines at the time, Ynet reported.

The Times of Israel asked a Ynet reporter to see the Philippine Justice Ministry document in question, but he refused to share it because, he said, he had received it from the lawyer of those arrested on condition that he share only some, but not all of its contents.

According to The Times of Israel’s research, Philippine labor ministry documents show that all but two of the detainees did in fact work at IBD Marketing Inc. a company which, according to Ynet’s own account, is still under investigation. However, Ynet claims that the Philippine Justice Ministry document, which it refuses to allow other reporters to see, states that the Israeli detainees did not work at IBD Marketing at the time of the alleged fraud perpetrated against several alleged victims. The Times of Israel also requested the documents from the Philippine Justice Ministry but received no response. The Times of Israel was unable to independently verify whether Ynet’s reporting or interpretation of the Philippine document is correct.

Catalan ordered the Israelis released without any restrictions, and they immediately boarded a flight back to Israel, the Hebrew-language site said, without citing sources.

The report said three of Israel’s most prominent attorneys, Ronen Rosenbloom, Jacques Chen and Stav Saar, had traveled to the Philippines to offer legal aid to the suspects and helped facilitate the ruling.

The prosecutor general was reported to have criticized the suspects’ widely publicized arrest as illegal, causing an embarrassment to local police. The names on the arrest warrants didn’t match the actual identities of some of the suspects, Catalan reportedly said.
Following the ruling, local police chief Oscar Albayalde ordered authorities to stop the practice of public arrests or perp walks, the report said.
The report was unclear on whether the other hundreds of non-Israeli suspects were similarly released, but it was widely reported several days ago that it was only the Israelis who were being held and that the other suspects had been freed.
The report quoted a response from IBD, saying the firm “welcomes the release of all its employees and managers. The decision speaks for itself and teaches us of the huge gap between the published allegations and reality.”
Last week, police said that 474 Filipino employees and the Israelis were taken into custody following the raid on three buildings in Clark Freeport, a former US Air Force base north of Manila, where the alleged online fraud was committed.
Police Chief Superintendent Marni Marcos claimed at the time that the suspects lured victims into investing in foreign stocks in a flourishing London-based company, then took their money through an online app after obtaining their bank account and credit card details.
The Israeli men were arrested “while in the act of managing, operating and manning the three target buildings” while the Filipinos were caught communicating and doing online transactions with foreign clients from Europe, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Russia, Albayalde had said in a statement.

A police video showed officers with assault rifles, backed by special forces units, barging into a vast office and repeatedly yelling “Hands up!” while ordering some of the suspects not to touch their computers. Some of the Israelis could be seen being led away in handcuffs.

Police seized evidence from the computers, alleging that it showed they were “engaged in a fraudulent online trading activity that involves millions of US dollars victimizing other foreign nationals all over the world,” Albayalde said.

Some foreign victims traveled to the Philippines and reported to the police details of the alleged fraud after obtaining information from some disgruntled syndicate members, Marcos had told reporters.

Police arrested 474 employees of a trading company in Pampanga on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in cybercrime.
The police cybercrime group targeted a company allegedly posing as a business process outsourcing firm in Berthaphil Business Park at the Clark Special Economic Zone.
Police said the employees were on the night shift, so there may be more arrests from the other shifts.
Police on Thursday presented eight Israeli nationals supposedly operating the business. They said the company was engaged in fraudulent financial transactions worth around $1 million (around P52 million) daily.

Police said the money is transferred to different international accounts including those in the Czech Republic, Romania, and Germany.
They said they discovered the operations after Australian nationals reported they were scammed for up to A$500,000 (around P20 million).
Authorities said the company failed to present legal documents when a search warrant was served for estafa.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has described as unfortunate the false Information being circulated that the State Government demolished a Mosque in Port Harcourt, saying that the false report was planted by mischief makers to create disaffection.
Addressing journalists at the location on Biambo Street Off, School Road by Mami Market Junction, near Rainbow Estate on Monday., Governor Wike said there was no Mosque on ground, hence nothing was demolished.

He said: “I received calls from several prominent Nigerians 8on the fake news being circulated online. I have come here with Reporters and you can see there was no Mosque here.
“It is most unfortunate that fickle minded persons will claim that a Mosque was demolished at this place, when no Mosque existed here. The story was concocted by mischief makers to score cheap points”.
Governor Wike explained that some persons started erecting illegal foundation at the disputed land, even though they had no approval to embark on any construction work.
“They came here to erect illegal structure. There was no approval from the State Government for any structure to be erected here.

“The persons who started the foundation had already dragged the State Government to court on the disputed land. The Rivers State Government won the case. What they attempted to do was to start the illegal construction to tie the hands of the State Government “, he said.
The Governor urged the Muslim Community in Rivers State to show him where a Mosque was demolished in the State. He advised them not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to peddle false stories against the Rivers State Government.

Governor Wike said that the State Government operates within the rule of law. He said that the State Government will not be distracted by the illegal circulation of fake reports.
He stated that several Mosques constructed on the approval of the State Government exist across Port Harcourt and other major towns of Rivers State, without the State Government demolishing them.
“The government gave them notice not to do anything on the land. But they went ahead with the illegal foundation and the relevant agency stopped them.
“Why would we want to bring down any Mosque , when there are other Mosques across the State? What is the Special interest on this one?

- The party says Kanu is not a freedom fighter but a businessman out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi has described as cowardly and an act of desperation, the threat by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to southeast governors.
The IPOB leader had threatened to attack the governors of the southeast geopolitical zone and particularly, Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi, The Nation reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the Ebonyi state chapter of the PDP said this in a statement on Monday, August 21, by its chairman, Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
According to Nwebonyi, Kanu is not a freedom fighter but a businessman out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen.
The statement read: “The threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to attack the governors of the southeast geopolitical zone and particularly, Ebonyi state governor, Engr Chief David Umahi whenever they travel abroad is punk and cowardly.
“It is a threat out of desperation by people who thought they could use the Biafra agenda for self enrichment. Unfortunately, the shenanigan did not pay off on the home front, though the Igbos in the diaspora fall prey."
The Ebonyi PDP chairman said IPOB is not fighting for the actualisation of Biafra and that the name of the organisation suggests no such objective.
The statement added: "Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the group is just out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen.

Nwebonyi said Kanu had thought he would get the governors and other politicians in the southeast to be funding his activities, but that did not happen.
According to him, the IPOB leader resolved to attacking Igbo politicians who travel abroad because his expectations were not met.
The statement added: “Kanu should have stayed back to press home his demand for the emancipation of the marginalised people of Biafra. That is why I call him a coward. He should also remember that the Igbos are not the only people of Biafra."
