A Southwest Airline passenger strip her clothes off, she ran with her clothes off up and down the airle for 25minutes.

It is unclear what exactly prompted the woman's outburst on the plane on Monday, although reports indicate that she demanded to be let off the aircraft during her stunt and exclaimed that she was bipolar.

FG sets targets for new Correctional Service chief

ABUJA: The Federal Government on Friday set fresh targets for the newly decorated Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, directing him to lay a solid foundation for broadbased reforms before November 2026.

Speaking after decorating Nwakuche with his new rank in Abuja, Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said despite ongoing reforms in the Service, there are areas requiring critical attention to ensure long-term stability and efficiency of the system.

According to him, the Service must focus on rehabilitation rather than condemnation, adding that all the inmates across Nigeria’s 256 custodial facilities must be seen as people capable of positive change.

The minister said; “The onus is now on you to design and implement strategies for the inmates to add value to the socio-economic development of Nigeria. Do not disappoint Mr President, do not disappoint me, and please ensure that our custodial facilities become centres for correction and not condemnation.

“It will amount to failure on your part if inmates go back to criminality after serving their terms. You must lead from the front with great ideas. Nigeria has taken you to the top; therefore, give back to the country the best you can offer”.

Responding, Mr Nwakuche unveiled some core pillars of focus for the Service which he said align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He listed the areas to include security, decongestion of facilities, infrastructural development, capacity building and staff welfare, inmates’ welfare, management of juvenile offenders and strategic collaboration.

According to him, Correctional reforms cannot be executed in isolation.

“I will continue to foster strong relationships with key agencies and development partners to unlock opportunities for system-wide improvement.

“I have already begun this journey. In fact, between 16th December 2024, when I assumed office in acting capacity, and Wednesday, 30th April 2025, I have met with more than 25 heads of Government Agencies and other critical stakeholders.

Crime › LASTMA Dismisses 12 Officers, Demotes 19 For Misconduct by Morbeta11(op): 11:33am On May 02, 2025
LASTMA dismisses 12 officers, demotes 19 for misconduct

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority announced on Tuesday that it has dismissed no fewer than 12 of its personnel for misconduct between December 2023 and April 2025.

The LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq
, disclosed this in a statement sent to our correspondent on Thursday to commemorate the agency’s 25th anniversary.

He stated that 19 personnel had also been demoted, while 17 others were issued warning letters.

Taofiq said, “From December 2023 to date, 12 officers have been summarily dismissed for breaches of professional ethics, while 19 others have been demoted for misconduct.

“In addition, 17 personnel received stern warnings, and 12 were compelled to tender their resignations following investigations into infractions deemed incompatible with the global standards to which LASTMA aspires.”

Speaking on the 25th anniversary and the unveiling of an emblem, the General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the emblem as a representation of the enduring spirit of the agency.

He noted that under his leadership, the agency has continued to drive professionalism, efficiency, and discipline among its staff.

“LASTMA has, through steadfast dedication, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, evolved into a formidable reference point in the management of traffic in Lagos State.

“The emblem we unveil today transcends its aesthetic representation and outlook. It encapsulates the enduring spirit of our institution, the hurdles we have surmounted, the laurels we have earned, and the unrelenting passion demonstrated by every officer who has adorned the LASTMA uniform with honour and distinction.

“It stands as an emblematic insignia, calling us to reaffirm our collective duty to fortify and expand the legacy meticulously built over the past twenty-five years,” he concluded.

Taofiq also noted that the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, unveiled the emblem for the agency’s 25th anniversary.

The statement quoted Giwa as saying that the 25th anniversary, scheduled for 15th to 17th July, would allow the traffic agency to unveil a 20-year Traffic Management Plan.

Taofiq continued, “As part of the commemorative activities, the Lagos State Government is set to unveil a comprehensive 20-Year Traffic Management Plan at the forthcoming three-day Traffic Conference.

“This ambitious blueprint will articulate holistic strategies for managing vehicular and pedestrian traffic before, during, and after infrastructure projects, as well as during events that may pose risks to road safety.”

Giwa further stated that the anniversary would provide the agency with an opportunity to reflect and rededicate itself to effective transport management.

“This 25th anniversary is not just a celebration; it is a moment for reflection, rededication, and visioning. It allows us to assess how far we have come, recognise the men and women who wear the LASTMA uniform with dignity, and unveil our roadmap for a smarter, technology-driven, citizen-centric traffic management future in Lagos.

“Our theme for this milestone celebration is LASTMA @25: Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos State Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations.

“Through a line-up of commemorative activities, including the Lagos Traffic Summit, community outreach campaigns, staff recognition ceremonies, and strategic dialogues, we aim to reinforce LASTMA’s new values of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence,” the Special Adviser concluded.

From Toronto to Lagos: Interpol tracks stolen cars to Nigeria

International police organisation INTERPOL has traced several stolen vehicles from Canada to Nigeria, following a large-scale cross-border operation targeting vehicle trafficking in West Africa.

The operation, codenamed Safe Wheels, was carried out between 17 and 30 March 2025 across 12 West African countries, including Nigeria.

Coordinated by INTERPOL, it involved thousands of vehicle checks at land and sea borders, resulting in the detection of approximately 150 stolen vehicles and the seizure of more than 75.

A statement released from INTERPOL’s headquarters in Lyon, France, said the majority of the stolen vehicles flagged during the two-week exercise had been trafficked from Canada, with others originating from France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Toyota, Peugeot and Honda models were among the most commonly intercepted brands.

In Nigeria, officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) uncovered six stolen vehicles, mostly Toyota and Lexus hidden in freight containers reportedly shipped from Canada. Four of the cars showed signs of break-in, and all were confirmed as stolen in Canada in 2024 through checks on INTERPOL’s Stolen Motor Vehicle (SMV) database.

The SMV system, accessible by police across INTERPOL’s 196 member countries, enables officers to instantly verify if a vehicle has been reported stolen globally. In 2024 alone, over 270,000 stolen vehicles were flagged using the tool.

Speaking on the outcome of the operation, David Caunter, INTERPOL’s Director of Organized and Emerging Crime, warned that stolen vehicles often fuel broader criminal activity.

“The theft is only the beginning. Stolen vehicles are used to fund and facilitate organised crime and, in some cases, even terrorism,” he said.

Investigations into the trafficking networks are ongoing, with two major criminal groups already identified. INTERPOL has initiated 18 new probes as a result of the operation.

Operation Safe Wheels was conducted under the Project Drive Out initiative — a joint partnership between INTERPOL and the Government of Canada aimed at tackling international vehicle theft and illegal spare parts trading.

Experts from INTERPOL’s SMV Task Force, including Canadian specialists, were deployed to Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin and other participating countries to assist with enforcement and forensic checks.

The discovery of stolen Canadian vehicles in Lagos is expected to further deepen cooperation between Nigerian authorities and Canada’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau as the investigation continues.

Crime › Achimugu’s Release Order Demonstrates Power Of Law – Counsel by Morbeta11(op): 12:15pm On May 01, 2025
Achimugu’s release order demonstrates power of law – counsel

Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), counsel to Mrs Aisha Achimugu, Chief Executive Officer of Felak Concept Group, on Wednesday said that the order for release of Achimugu from the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) within 24 hours was victory for the justice system.

Ojukwu made the statement in an interview with newsmen after the Federal High Court directed release of his client.

He said that the order reaffirmed the power of the law.

Ojukwu noted that Achimugu was detained on Tuesday over alleged money laundering and fraud.

“The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered immediate release of Mrs Aisha Achimugu, the CEO of Felak Concept Group, from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” he said.

The counsel described the ruling as landmark, adding that it showed the strength of Nigeria’s legal system and commitment to justice.

According to him, the order given by Justice Inyang Ekwo, sent a clear message that every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“This ruling reinforces the foundational principle of the Nigerian constitution that every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.

Politics › CJN Cautions NBA Over Frivolous Petitions Against Judges by Morbeta11(op): 8:21am On May 01, 2025
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has cautioned the Nigerian Bar Association against submitting frivolous petitions against judges.

The CJN noted that many petitions accusing judges of corruption are often frivolous, baseless, and lacking in substance.

The CJN’s assertions were conveyed in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the CJN on Media, Tobi Soniyi, on Tuesday.

According to Soniyi, the CJN, while responding to calls from members of the NBA Bar and Bench Forum for greater protection for judicial officers, urged legal practitioners to defend the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary rather than disparage it.

The CJN emphasised that “some people write petitions against judges simply to intimidate them.”

She expressed concern that judges are often traumatised after being investigated, only to be exonerated when no wrongdoing is found.
However, the CJN encouraged anyone with genuine grievances against judges to direct their complaints to the National Judicial Council.

SANs fault call for NBA president’s resignation
Justice Kekere-Ekun warned that “anyone accusing judges of corruption must support the allegation with clear and credible evidence.”

She also expressed disappointment at the NBA’s silence when frivolous allegations are made against judges.

The CJN further criticised the practice of lawyers appearing on television to slam judges without first reading court judgments to understand the reasoning behind the decisions.

She called on senior counsel to mentor young lawyers, fostering discipline and professionalism within the legal profession.

The Chairman of the NBA Bar and Bench Forum, Richard Ahonaruogho, echoed the CJN’s concerns. He advised the NJC to screen petitions against judges to discard frivolous ones and avoid wasting the council’s time.

Ahonaruogho suggested imposing heavy costs for frivolous petitions to discourage the practice. He also appealed for the CJN’s support in fostering mutual respect between the Bar and the Bench.

Defections: Oborevwori, Omo-Agege battle for Delta APC leadership

•Ex-Deputy Senate President insists he’s party lead

•Delta gov my leader—Keyamo
•Shettima, Ganduje, 10 govs receive Oborevwori, Okowa today

ASABA — GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori and former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, may be heading for a showdown over the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State as the governor today officially decamps.

Recall that the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, including the 25 local government areas and wards, collapsed their structures into the APC last week.

As the governor is officially welcomed to the APC fold, the former Deputy Senate President is, however, adamant that he remains the leader of the party.

Oborevwori, his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and other stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state, last Wednesday, announced their resolve to dump the PDP for APC.

Supremacy battle for Delta APC
While the constitution of the APC is silent on whom the leader of the party is, the governors always took charge of the party affairs due to state resources at their disposal and the influence they wield.
Also, the state governors are regarded as the de facto leaders of the party.

Though Omo-Agege, in collaboration with Mr Festus Keyamo, has been managing the affairs of the party in Delta State, the former Senate President is still insisting that he remained the leader of the party.

A party leader, who clarified the position of the leader in the state, said: “The constitution of the APC is silent on the leader of the party in the state. Currently, Omo-Agege is not holding any political office; he is just saying he remains the leader of the party in Delta State because he has been holding the party together with Festus Keyamo in the state.

‘’We all know that the governors are the defacto leaders of the party. They usually dictate the terms.”
Keyamo affirms Oborevwori as leader

Increasing Nigeria's gross national happiness
Earlier, while reacting to Oborevwori’s defection, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, declared the governor as his leader, just as he commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership.

Keyamo in a post on X wrote: “Finally, Delta is APC. Thank you, Mr President, for your leadership that has attracted the best to our party. Thank you, my leader and Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for your foresight and courage in taking this bold decision.”

Omo-Agege welcomes Oborevwori, others, maintains party leadership
But while welcoming the Delta State governor to the APC, the Deputy President, yesterday, maintained his status as the leader of the Delta APC.

Omo-Agege, in a statement, said: “The leadership of Delta State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, warmly welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all leaders and members of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, into the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“This historic move underscores the success of President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda in driving growth and development in our country.

“In line with outcomes of deliberations with the national leadership of our party, the Progressive Governors Forum, and Delta APC stakeholders, I wish to assure all stakeholders that any issue arising from this development is being carefully considered and managed with prudence and foresight, in the best interests of our party and our beloved state.

“Let us embrace this development with unity, understanding, and a shared commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria.

“In this renewed spirit of brotherhood in Delta APC, I urge all LGA and ward chairmen, their executives, party members, and our teeming supporters to turn out en-masse for the welcome reception of our new members into the APC on April 28, 2025, in Asaba.

“This development reaffirms our commitment to progressive governance, promising a brighter future for our people and a more prosperous, secure, and united Nigeria.

“Together, we will work tirelessly to achieve greatness for Delta State and Nigeria. I also take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his political sagacity and visionary leadership, as well as to the national chairman and the entire National Working Committee of the APC for their unwavering support and tireless efforts.”

No stumbling block for Oborevwori, says Tinubu
In a move seen as perhaps stamping the leadership of the party in the state, President Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, have directed that there should be no stumbling block to the official declaration by Governor Oborevwori, his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP leaders for the APC in Asaba today.

As of yesterday, the governor was making last-minute preparations for today’s declaration, and appraising reports from the various leaders regarding the defections of PDP leaders in the different local government areas of the state.

An APC leader in the state told Vanguard: “President Tinubu who knows the intricate details of how he made Oborevwori jump ship and crumble the PDP in Delta State told the national chairman, Dr Ganduje, to lead the party to warmly welcome the Delta governor and decamping PDP members on Monday (today).

“The national chairman, Ganduje, attended a meeting chaired by the chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, at the weekend in Abuja, where he (Uzodimma) made it clear that the purpose of the meeting was to inform Delta APC leaders that Governor Oborevwori and the entire PDP structure in their state have defected to the APC.

“Governor Uzodimma stressed the need for unity and asked all the leaders to cordially welcome Governor Oborevwori to the party, a position Ganduje re-emphasised.”

On his part, the founding leader of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, welcomed Governor Oborevwori to the APC, describing his defection as a momentous event that has changed the political landscape in the state.

Emerhor said: “I write to formally welcome you, the leadership of Delta PDP, and the multitude of PDP members and supporters in Delta, as you formally lead them to join the APC progressive family. Today, your bold and pragmatic move has made that vision a reality. “It is my unique honour and privilege to personally welcome you to Delta APC.”

Djebah welcomes Oborevwori to APC
Similarly, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Thailand, Ambassador Oma Djebah, welcomed Oborevwori and the PDP political structure into the APC.

Ambassador Djebah, in a statement, said Delta State was now fully in alignment with the bold, courageous and impactful progressive policies and programmes of the APC.

He said: “We all welcome our governor to the APC family in Delta State.”

“I believe the future beckons with successes and accomplishments as the APC family grows from strength to strength in Delta State. Governor Oborevwori’s entry into the APC family will help enhance the fortunes of the APC in Delta State and contribute to the natural development of Delta State in all its ramifications. I salute his courage.

“I commend the governor’s bold foresight in joining the APC. This move will not only endear him to the family of progressives but also open up Delta State to a flurry of opportunities that a productive alignment which the centre confers for the overall development of our state and the improvement of the living conditions of our people.”

Shettima, Ganduje, others welcome decampees
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Chairman of the APC and other notable leaders of the party will today receive Governor Oborevwori, his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme; Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and others into the party.

They would be received at a rally billed to be held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, the state capital.

The APC in the state, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, said Governor Uzodimma would lead other APC governors to grace the event. Onojeghuo said: “This momentous occasion has created a massive political earthquake that has transformed the landscape of the entire Delta State.”

Also, ahead of today’s official defections, 10 governors, elected on the platform of the APC, yesterday, arrived in Asaba for the event.

Among other governors said to have arrived include Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Bassey Otu (Cross Rivers), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Ahmed Ododo (Kogi), Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Dikko Radda (Kastina) and Mohammed Yahaya (Gombe).

WHEN A CROW GETS SICK… IT SEEKS OUT ANTS!

Yes, you read that correctly.

When a crow isn't feeling well, it lands near an anthill, spreads its wings, and stands still—allowing ants to crawl all over its body.

Ants release formic acid, a natural substance with antiparasitic properties. This "chemical bath" helps eliminate fungi, bacteria, and parasites from the skin and feathers.

This behavior is so common that it even has a name: "anting". And it's not just among crows, several bird species do it as a form of self-medication.

Nature is a living pharmacy And animals know exactly where to find healing.

Fawehinmi’s Associates Demand Demolition Of Hotel Near Late Legal Luminary’s Home

A coalition of senior lawyers, human rights advocates, journalists, and close associates of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), has demanded the immediate demolition of a four-storey hotel constructed beside the renowned lawyer’s residence in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The group, which includes human rights lawyers such as Femi Falana (SAN), Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), and activists including Adindu Ugwuzor, Richard Akinnola, Edetaen Ojo, Bayo Alabidun, and Lanre Arogundade, made their call during a press conference held on Friday, just days after what would have been Fawehinmi’s 87th posthumous birthday on April 22.

Describing the structure as both unlawful and hazardous, the coalition accused the developers of violating Lagos State’s urban planning laws and endangering the lives of the Late Fawehinmi family.

“The purpose of this gathering is to demand justice for Chief Gani Fawehinmi and the great family he left behind,” the coalition declared in a jointly signed statement.

“The essence is to see that justice is done and manifestly seen to be done. In this regard, this marks the beginning of a series of actions we might be compelled to embark upon until we attain that goal of justice.”

Chief Fawehinmi, who died in 2009 at the age of 71, was celebrated for his lifelong dedication to the pursuit of justice, democracy, and human rights, often at great personal cost. His associates said the continued existence of the imposing hotel building was a desecration of his legacy.

According to the group, the hotel, referred to as a “so-called apartment,” was built in blatant contravention of urban planning regulations, particularly the mandatory three-metre setback between structures.

“So brazen were the dare-devil builders or developers that they ignored family warnings and chose to build their structure almost on top of Chief Gani’s fence,” the statement read.

“It is possible that they believe they are above the law. Or perhaps, they bear some grudge against Chief Gani and his family… But, whoever they think they are and whatever their motive, our stance is that this injustice should not, cannot and must not be allowed to stand.”

The group raised significant safety and privacy concerns, claiming that the building not only looms over the Fawehinmi compound but also poses a security risk, potentially serving as a surveillance or access point for criminal elements.

“The fence protecting Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s house faces imminent collapse,” they warned.

“A 1000-litre capacity water tank installed right on top of this 4-storey structure has thrice collapsed and fallen into Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s compound from this same apartment. We are fortunate that no one has so far been hurt or killed… But these repeated incidents themselves show without doubt how dangerously close this structure is.”

Describing the proximity of the structure as a “permanent threat to the security and safety of lives and property,” the coalition stressed that immediate action is required to prevent future tragedies.

“We do not want to wait until any such catastrophe occurs before taking action. We have, therefore, chosen to speak out now before deadlier incidents occur.”

In their list of demands, the group called for the immediate demolition of the hotel and an investigation into possible collusion between the developers and state officials.

“Our demands are simple,” they said.

“The so-called apartment building should be pulled down as the construction obviously violates Lagos State urban development and building regulations, particularly with regard to the mandatory setback requirement of at least three-metre space in-between buildings.

“The so-called apartment building should be pulled down because it menacingly towers above Chief Gani’s compound and could provide a safe haven for anyone with criminal and sinister intent against the family…”

“The so-called apartment building should be pulled down because it constitutes a permanent threat to the security and safety of lives and property in Chief Gani’s house.”

The coalition also called for heightened security around the Fawehinmi property to safeguard the family.

“This is not just about a building,” the group concluded.

“It is about protecting a legacy, preserving justice, and honouring the memory of a man who gave everything for the rights of others. This injustice must not stand.”

As of the time of filling this report, the Lagos State government was yet to issue a formal response to their demands.

5 footballers born into rich families

This article highlight five footballers who were born into rich families

A lot of football players have always shared their heart-rendering stories of how they endured a difficult family life and background while growing up.

This was because they were not born with a silver spoon in their mouths and had to suffer actualizing their dreams as footballer through grit and determination.

In the same vein, there are a couple of footballers who had it quite easy to reach the pinnacle of their careers because they were born into rich families.

This article highlight five (5) of these players who were born into rich families.

Mario Balotelli

While Mario Balotelli was not born directly into a rich family because his parents were Ghanian immigrants, he was adopted and raised by Italian natives, Francesco and Silvia Balotelli, both of them are very rich.

Although very controversial during his playing stints, Balotelli was one of the best strikers during his time. He played in several clubs including Manchester City, Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan and so on.

Gerard Pique

It is no surprise that Pique’s invested interest in the politics of Barcelona is a background interest of what he was born into. The former Barcelona man was born and raised into a family of wealth. His father was a vibrant lawyer and business tycoon while his mother held a stake at a very popular hospital. In fact, his grandfather was once a vice-president of FC Barcelona.

I present to you Princess Kalina of Bulgaria
"When she was eight years old, she broke both of her front teeth at school. In 1999, while studying art in London, she went to a dentist to get crowns, but the bad luck was that the dentist drilled too deep into the base of the bone. This caused her serious problems, an infection, and another operation. During my expedition in 2000 (…) while she was at my camp, having just arrived from London, the infection recurred. Nobody gave it any importance, because at first it seemed like a small problem (…). Days went by, despite having aches and pains, she fought them off with antibiotics and painkillers."

"The expedition began in those days, and we went to sea. She was on a support boat. The inability to get to a hospital and the conditions at sea caused the infection to spread and worsen, affecting part of her eye. We had to evacuate her urgently, and she underwent surgery, also urgently. Priority was given to clearing the infection, which caused cosmetic damage, which wasn't significant at the time, as the most important thing was to save her eye and nose from infection."

"All the absurd theories of Kalina's different operations and aesthetic treatments are nothing more than misinformation" "We are tired of seeing how it gets frivolous with such a serious health issue."

"She lives a healthy lifestyle, exercise daily, and eat well."

FBI: U.S. Lost $6.5Billion To Investment Fraud In 2024, Launches Nigerian Operation To Crack Down On Sextortion Rings

This figure was contained in the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) 2024 Internet Crime Report. The annual report documented a total of 859,532 complaints and over $6.5 billion in losses—an increase of 33 percent compared to 2023.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed that victims in the United States lost more than $6.5 billion to investment fraud in 2024, making it the internet crime with the highest reported financial losses.

This figure was contained in the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) 2024 Internet Crime Report. The annual report documented a total of 859,532 complaints and over $6.5 billion in losses—an increase of 33 percent compared to 2023.

The report listed phishing/spoofing, extortion, and personal data breaches as the top three most reported internet crimes. California, Texas, and Florida recorded the highest number of complaints, while individuals over the age of 60 suffered nearly $5 billion in losses and submitted the largest number of complaints.

The FBI also announced a global operation to combat financially motivated sextortion schemes operating out of Nigeria. It said it is coordinating with multiple law enforcement partners to conduct Operation Artemis—a surge of resources and personnel to Nigeria to address the high rate of sextortion related suicides attributed to Nigerian perpetrators.

It noted that as a result of Operation Artemis, FBI investigations led to the arrests of 22 Nigerian subjects connected to financially motivated sextortion schemes.

Of those 22 subjects, approximately half were directly linked to victims who took their own lives. FBI said the operation marks a significant step in the fight against child exploitation and brings justice and accountability to international perpetrators hiding anonymously behind screens.

“Reporting is one of the first and most important steps in fighting crime so law enforcement can use this information to combat a variety of frauds and scams,” said FBI Director, Kash Patel.

“The IC3, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is only as successful as the reports it receives; that’s why it’s imperative that the public immediately report suspected cyber-enabled criminal activity to the FBI.”

The IC3, launched in May 2000, now has a database of over nine million complaints. It continues to urge the public to report cyber-related crimes through its official website, regardless of the financial loss.

The FBI also recorded a significant rise in sextortion-related crimes. Between October 2024 and March 2025, the number of tips rose by 30 percent.

IC3 recorded more than 54,000 victims in 2024, up from 34,000 the previous year. Most of the victims were boys aged between 14 and 17.

The Bureau advises victims of internet crimes to contact all financial institutions involved, report through and reach out to both local police and the nearest FBI field office.
