Lagos Youths Reject Owerri Coalition’s Endorsement Of Seyi Tinubu As Governor In 2027, Say President’s Son Free To Govern Osun, Imo
According to the coalition, Seyi Tinubu is free to go to Osun State, where Tinubu reportedly hails from or Imo State, where CONYL issued its joint statement, to become the governor.
The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths has rejected the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, Lagos State governor.
The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), an umbrella body of youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones, on Tuesday endorsed Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor in 2027.
In a statement jointly issued in Owerri on Tuesday by the President General of CONYL Comrade Goodluck Ibem, Secretary Comrade Junard Abubakar, Public Relations Officer, Comrade Iniobong Sampson and Publicity Secretary Comrade Adeyemo Adewale, the body said it arrived at the resolution following a recent enlarged meeting of its leaders.
According to the coalition, Seyi Tinubu is free to go to Osun State, where Tinubu reportedly hails from or Imo State, where CONYL issued its joint statement, to become the governor.
However, in a statement signed by Abdul Kareem Whyte for the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths on Wednesday, the group said there is no vacancy for non-indigenes in Lagos State.
It said, “Our attention has been drawn to the recent endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor by a group known as Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) and the group is described as the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
“The said Coalition sat in Owerri, Imo State and publicly issued the statement on endorsement, while we know Mr Seyi Tinubu has his democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn the ill-fated endorsement and described it as anti-democracy and a deliberate move by some faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State right to govern themselves in 2027.
“It is no longer news that since 1999, no true blood indigenes of Lagos State have taken over the mantle of leadership in the State (except one), the marginalization which underscores the essence of democracy and an outright denial of the indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves.
“We know as a fact that there will soon be vacancy in Osun State where Mr Seyi Tinubu can best exercise his democratic rights unhindered. And if the people of Owerri in Imo are also interested in benefiting from the experience Mr Seyi Tinubu has acquired in recent times, they can push him to succeed Governor Uzodinma.
“As for us there is no vacancy for non-indigenes in Lagos State in 2027. The marginalization is too much and the marginalization has led to the underdevelopment in the state.
“It’s unbelievable that since 1999, our hinterlands are not developed, no good roads, Lagos State leaving on debts and our traditional system distorted by successive governments.
“We are also aware of the moves by some non-indigenes to penetrate our traditional rulers in getting endorsements and ratifications from them.
“Recently, one of the aspirants suddenly traced his ancestry to Ojo Local Government after spending more than a decade in power without identifying with the Awori People of Ojo in Lagos State.
“We are hereby calling on the Oba of Lagos to beware of persons who will soon seek indigeneship of Lagos State because of 2027.”
According to the group, it is ready to “fight dirty if the Oba of Lagos allows such anti Lagos Indigenes move”.
“We advise the leadership of CONYL to channel their energies towards advocating for good governance and policies that will benefit the youth constituency rather than instigating political crises in Lagos State,” it added.

US Government Tells Court Tinubu Is 'CIA Asset', Insists Nigerians Have No Right To Access President’s Past Records
Recall that last year, the court declined an emergency application seeking to compel top US law enforcement agencies to hasten the release of confidential information on President Bola Tinubu.
United States' law enforcement agencies have insisted Nigerians "have no right" to unfiltered access to President Bola Tinubu's past records.
The position was stated in a memorandum filed by the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, which renowned journalist, David Hundeyin, shared on Twitter on Tuesday night.
Recall that last year, the court declined an emergency application seeking to compel top US law enforcement agencies to hasten the release of confidential information on President Bola Tinubu.
Giving an update on the case, Hundeyin said the three US agencies had filed their defence against the summary judgment concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drug trafficking investigation records.
The journalist wrote: ‘Yesterday(Monday) in federal court, the CIA, FBI, and DEA filed a memorandum opposing our motion for summary judgment in the FOIA disclosure case about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drug trafficking investigation records, where we are seeking to have the redactions removed from the (partially released) files.
“In the filing, the CIA effectively confirmed that Nigeria's sitting president is an active CIA asset. An excerpt from the CIA filing reads:
"Human sources can be expected to furnish information to the CIA only when they are confident the CIA can and will do everything in its power to prevent the public disclosure of their cooperation. In the case of a person who has been cooperating with the CIA, official confirmation of that cooperation could cause the targets to take retaliatory action against that person or against their family or friends.
"It also places in jeopardy every individual with whom the cooperating individual has had contact. Thus, the indiscretion of one source in a chain of intelligence sources can damage an entire spectrum of sources.
“As such, confirming or denying the existence of records on a particular foreign national, like Tinubu, reasonably could be expected to cause damage to U.S. national security by indicating whether or not the CIA maintained any human intelligence sources related to Tinubu, and identifying any access or lack of access any such sources had to intelligence concerning him "
“And if that wasn't bad enough, the DEA's filing included a paragraph that literally said: "We oppose full, unredacted disclosure of the DEA's Bola Tinubu heroin trafficking investigation records because we believe that while Nigerians have a right to be informed about what their government is up to, they do not have a right to know what their president is up to."
“At this point, I think there is nothing more to be said about the direct role that the US government plays in ensuring that Africa is constantly destabilised and afflicted with terrible leaders who create poverty and devastation.”
An economist, Bismarck Rewane, has projected that the naira will strengthen further in January 2025 compared to its current weak trading position.
Rewane made this known during his monthly presentation at the Lagos Business School Executive Breakfast Session, which was themed ‘The Quadrangular Impact of the Trump Win on Nigeria’.
In the past week, the naira had recorded mixed performance across segments as foreign exchange reserves hit new highs.
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s foreign reserves reached its highest level in 32 months, as it advanced 68 basis points week-on-week to settle at $40bn.
At the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, the naira weakened by 70bps against the American dollar to settle at N1,678.87/$.
In contrast, the naira strengthened at the parallel window by 30bps against the USD to exchange at N1,720/$.
Speaking during his presentation, Rewane, who is also the Managing Director of Financial Derivative Company, affirmed, “There is no economic justification for the naira to be trading at less than 30 per cent of its fair value in less than twelve months.”
He expressed a strong belief that the naira would recover some of its losses in January 2025 for four reasons.
“The differential between the parallel market and the official market rate has virtually disappeared. This was responsible for a minimum of 30 per cent of the value erosion due to speculative round-tripping; The supply of dollars into the market, which is a function of oil production and prices; The CBN should and we believe will announce a programme of dollar sales to the market similar to the T/Bill auction. This will help reduce market uncertainty; The forex market structure to be more transparent,” he said.
Rewane added that the exchange rate is the major cause of inflation in Nigeria, noting that a partial recovery of the naira will not only help reduce inflation but will curb money supply saturation in the money market.
ICYMI: Advantages of a weak naira Projecting for the first quarter of 2025, the economist said that the naira will trade below N2,000.
Painting the worst-case scenario, Rewane said the naira would trade below N2,000 in Q1’2025 if “CBN begins to cut rates prematurely, there are capital reversals, weak investor confidence and removal of FX subsidy,” while the best-case scenario is if “CBN keeps interest rates elevated until 2025, capital flow surges, regular rDAS and oil output to increase to 1.55mbpd.”
In late October, the International Monetary Fund reported that the naira is showing signs of stabilisation, attributing this to recent interest rate hikes and efforts by the CBN to address foreign exchange backlogs.
In its latest Global Financial Stability Report, the IMF said that the CBN’s interventions to clear overdue foreign exchange obligations have played a critical role in stabilising the currency.
The IMF report read, “Policy actions by local authorities have also resulted in positive developments; for example, in Nigeria, rate hikes and the clearing of overdue domestic central bank foreign exchange obligations have helped the naira show more signs of stability.”
This commendation from the IMF had come a few weeks after the World Bank, in its Africa’s Pulse, report described the naira as among the worst-performing currencies in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2024.
With a 43 per cent depreciation as of August 2024, the naira ranked as one of the region’s weakest currencies alongside the Ethiopian birr and South Sudanese pound.
The depreciation of the naira was attributed to several factors, including increasing demand for US dollars in the parallel market, limited dollar inflows, and delays in foreign exchange disbursements by CBN.
“By August 2024, the Ethiopian birr, Nigerian naira, and South Sudanese pound were among the worst performers in the region. The Nigerian naira continued losing value, with a year-to-date depreciation of about 43 per cent as of August.
“Surges in demand for US dollars in the parallel market, driven by financial institutions, money managers, and non-financial end-users, combined with limited dollar inflows and slow foreign exchange disbursements to currency exchange bureaus by the central bank explain the weakening of the naira,” the Africa Pulse partly read.
PhD student could not write his name properly – National teachers DG
Kaduna -The Director General of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Professor Garba Maitafsir, has said that as a lecturer at the University, he came across a PhD Student who could not write his name properly.
He said that the falling standard of education was not as a result of systemic failure, but as a result of teaching, insisting that teachers’ quality must be properly checked if Nigeria must get its education system right.
Also, the Chairman of Teachers Service Board (TSB), in Kaduna State, Adamu Makadi said that teachers earn about 27% higher than their peers in the other sectors of the state government civil service.
The NTI boss and Adamu Makadi spoke at a One-Day Workshop on Teachers Issues In Conflict and Protracted Crisis Settings: Documenting the Effectiveness of the Kaduna Teacher Reforms.
According to Makadi, before the education reforms in Kaduna, it was discovered that. nothing really was wrong with the education system, but with the teachers, hence the need for the reform to check the recruitment, deployment and retention of teachers in the state.
“There is nothing wrong with our system of education, the problem is the quality of teachers, so Kaduna State Government took the bull by the horns by initiating a reform in the educational sector, particularly in the areas of recruitment, deployment and retention of teachers.”
“The recruitment exercise has been digitalised and adverts are open to all able and qualified candidates to apply, which has been working for us perfectly. The reform has enabled us to recruit and deploy based on their qualifications and competencies to see where they can best fit in. We also deploy teachers based on proximity to their places of residence.”
“The State Government under Senator Uba Sani has done a lot towards ensuring that competent and qualified teachers are retained in Kaduna State through provision of incentives including special allowances over other civil servants. For instance, if you are a teacher on a particular salary grade level and step, compared to your colleague who is not a teacher but in the same grade level and step, you will discover that teachers earn about 27% higher than other civil servants,” he said.
Professor Oladele Akogun, a University Don and Regional Research Director, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Nigeria & South Sudan, said Teachers should be treated better than Medical Doctors to get the education system right.
He said, that apart from the challenge with the educators (teachers), Nigeria also needs to check its education policies, as the country cannot achieve its desired education standards if policies and practices are at variance.
Israel’s Netanyahu acknowledges pager attack, says he sees ‘eye-to-eye’ with Trump on Iran
Israel has for the first time confirmed that it was behind the operation in September to detonate hundreds of pagers used by Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Israeli media on Sunday reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet: “The beeper operation and the elimination of (Hezbollah’s leader Hassan) Nasrallah were launched despite the opposition of senior officials in the security establishment and the political echelon in charge of them.”
A photo taken on September 18, 2024, in Beirut's southern suburbs shows the remains of exploded pagers on display at an undisclosed location. Hundreds of pagers used by Hezbollah members exploded across Lebanon on September 17, killing at least nine people and wounding around 2,800 in blasts the Iran-backed militant group blamed on Israel.
An Israeli official confirmed those remarks to CNN – the first time Israel has acknowledged its role.
The decision by the government to brief Israel’s media on Netanyahu’s remarks – and by extension, confirm Israel was behind the operation – appears to be another chapter in the domestic political machinations that have dominated Israel in recent weeks.
Israeli media interpreted the phrasing as implicit criticism of Israel’s military leadership and intelligence establishment, as well as then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, whom Netanyahu fired on Tuesday.
The Israeli government is facing multiple criminal probes, including over allegedly leaking falsified intelligence reports to the international media.
The Prime Minister’s Office denies wrongdoing.
On September 17, thousands of explosions struck Hezbollah members, targeting their pagers and then walkie-talkies a day later. The blasts killed at least 37 people, including some children, and injured nearly 3,000, many of them civilian bystanders, according to Lebanese health authorities, many of them civilian bystanders.
The day after pagers began exploding across Lebanon, Gallant seemed to acknowledge his country’s role.
“The IDF brings excellent achievements, together with the Shin Bet, together with Mossad, all the bodies and all the frameworks and the results are very impressive results,” he said on September 18, during a visit to the Ramat-David Air Force base in northern Israel.
‘Very good’ talks with Trump
The acknowledgment of the pager attacks came as Netanyahu said he had spoken three times in recent days with US President-elect Donald Trump.
Speaking ahead of a cabinet meeting Sunday, Netanyahu said: “These were very good and very important conversations, aimed at strengthening the solid alliance between Israel and the United States.”
He added: “We see eye-to-eye on the Iranian threat in all its aspects and the danger it poses. We also see the great opportunities before Israel – in peace and expansion, and in other areas.”
“We will never allow the horrors of history to repeat. We will never surrender — to neither antisemitism nor terrorism,” Netanyahu said.
“A clear line connects the two recent antisemitic attacks against Israel on Dutch soil: the criminal legal attack on the State of Israel in the International Court of Justice (sic) in The Hague, and the violent criminal attack against Israeli citizens on the streets of Amsterdam,” Netanyahu said.
In May, the chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (not the ICJ) applied for arrest warrants against both Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, saying they bore criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Netanyahu added: “We will continue to defend our country and our citizens on all fronts, against every threat, with the Iranian threat at the forefront.”
On Sunday, Israel advised its citizens to avoid attending sports and cultural events involving Israelis outside of the country following the attacks in Amsterdam.
In a public advisory alert, Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) warned of alleged calls to “harm Israelis and Jews, under the guise of protests and demonstrations, exploiting gathering events (such as sports and cultural events) to maximize harm and media exposure.”
The NSC suggested that these planned attacks could take place in Belgium, the United Kingdom, and France. It told Israelis to particularly avoid the upcoming France-Israel soccer match in Paris on Thursday.
Israelis have also been warned to stay away from protests and demonstrations and to “take extra care to conceal identifying Israeli/Jewish symbols.”
The Oluwo of Iwo, in Osun State, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on Nigerians to seek divine guidance from God on what should be done to fast-track the country’s development.
Oba Akanbi, who spoke in Iwo on Saturday at the annual Eledumare Festival, which he hosted, also advised Nigerians to stop lamentation over the challenges facing the country.
He urged them to return to God for devine intervention, saying that Nigeria has enough resources to develop without relying on foreign assistance.
Speaking further at the annual festival held in his palace in Iwo, Oluwo decried inability of Nigeria to harness her natural endowment for the betterment of the country, adding that the essence of the event was to draw people back to their Creator.
He said, “We are taking our people back to the days when we have power. When we start worshiping God, we will begin to use wisdom to convert gold to our own use; limestone to cement; if we begin to use our wisdom, we will be greater than America.
“It is not today that the economy of Nigeria is bad. Since independence, there is no government that people did not complain. We are endowed with mineral resources, particularly in Yorubaland. If we are not ungrateful to God, it is not the foreigners that will be taking our mineral resources to their land cheaply and bringing it back to us with expensive price.
“Our forefathers don’t know any other deities. Oduduwa does not know Sango or Ogun. Our forefathers are worshippers of one God. I’m representing God,the real king. Worship is an exclusive right of God.
“Our culture and tradition in Yorubaland is devoid of deities. We must approach God directly. Kingship is to profess that the only thing that is worthy of worship is God. We are calling all Yoruba to only one God. We should not be ingrate.”
In his remarks at the event, the Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Mr. Kehinde Oloke lauded Oluwo’s efforts towards uniting people to worship God without minding differences in their beliefs
IG condemns police extortion, orders punishment for culprits
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the spate of extortion allegations against some officers of the force in various areas across the country.
He specifically referenced a recent case involving officers from the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
In this case, officers identified as ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine were accused of extorting the sum of N10 million from some youths.
In a statement on Friday by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the money had been recovered through the efforts of the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16. The officers have been detained and subjected to an orderly room trial.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any act of corruption and police misconduct. The Force takes every allegation of extortion and abuse of power extremely seriously.”
“The IGP has, however, reassured the general public that the Force will continue to investigate all allegations levelled against erring officers thoroughly,” Adejobi said.
He stated that the IG has ordered severe punishments for officers found guilty of misconduct.
Adejobi added, “In pursuit of restorative justice, the Inspector General of Police has mandated severe consequences for any officer, no matter how highly ranked, found culpable, acting as a deterrent to those who may seek to compromise the integrity of the Force.”
“The IG further urges members of the public to make use of the following Police helpline and contacts to lodge complaints whenever necessary.”
Adejobi also announced that training on child care and protection would take place on Monday.
“The workshop will not only focus on enhancing technical capabilities but also emphasise the essential ethical principles when dealing with sensitive cases to establish a child-friendly police system in Nigeria.”
“By emphasising compassion, transparency, and adherence to modern investigative techniques, the Nigeria Police Force aims to foster a culture of professionalism and accountability among its personnel, thereby strengthening public trust and confidence in the organisation,” he added.

DISTURBING: Lakurawa terrorists offer financial incentives to recruit youths in Sokoto
By: Zagazola Makama
The new suspected extremist group, identified as “Lakurawa,” is offering as much as one million naira to young men in exchange for their allegiance.
Impeccable sources told Zagazola Makama that this group, allegedly composed of individuals from Mali, Chad, Libya, Niger, and Burkina Faso are actively recruiting local youths in Sokoto through substantial financial incentives.
This financial lure, according to witnesses, is part of an aggressive recruitment campaign aimed at attracting followers to their cause.
Unlike traditional criminal gangs, the Lakurawa are reported to adhere to extremist ideologies linked to the Khawarij sect, similar to the beliefs of Boko Haram. Local sources suggest that they employ a combination of financial incentives and ideological influence to gain support among vulnerable communities.
Beyond the recruitment, the Lakurawa reportedly confront and expel bandits and confiscate their cattle’s in areas under their control.
The Lumarawa extremist are yet to carry out any attack in the North West.

The Yemeni Army has fired a hypersonic missile at Nevatim airbase in southern parts of the Israeli-occupied territories.
Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree on Friday described the missile shot as an unprecedented military operation in which the target was effectively hit, according to Yemen’s official Saba news agency.
He also said that the Yemeni armed forces had been able to trace and shoot down an American MQ-9 drone, the twelfth drone shot by the Yemeni military since the start of their campaign against the Zionist aggression in Gaza.
Saree pledged his country’s commitment to continue with its operation against the Zionist targets until the regime halts its crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.
Tinubu to attend Joint Arab Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia
President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, which will focus on the current situation in the Middle East.
The summit, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will commence on Monday, November 11, 2024.
The statement explained that the summit is being held at the invitation of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and follows last year’s summit in the same Saudi city.
It further said, “During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to address the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, emphasising Nigeria’s strong call for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
“Nigeria will also advocate for renewed efforts to revive the two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace in the region.
“Key officials, including the minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, will accompany the President. Other members of the entourage are the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.”
It further added, “After the conclusion of the summit, President Tinubu will return to Abuja.”
BRICS: Russia Says It Won’t Ditch US Dollar After Trump’s Victory
In a shocking twist for the BRICS alliance, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that they will not ditch the US dollar. In a sit-down interview Thursday, Putin confirmed that Russia is not abandoning the dollar, it is “simply refusing to use the dollar as a settlement tool.”
Putin called the US dollar a “pillar of US power,” saying that the US is undoing this power. The BRICS bloc has long pushed its de-dollarization initiative, saying the greenback won’t be king for long. The alliance recently discussed de-dollarization at its October Summit, and multiple countries have decided to stop using the dollar.
“The payments in dollars are decreasing,” Putin said. “Not too much, as of yet, but as a means of savings, it’s going down step by step. Very gradually it’s shrinking, it is a trend. It’s their own doing.” In regards to BRICS proposals of ditching the US dollar, the Russian president reaffirmed that “our proposals are not aimed against [the] dollar. This is simply us rising to the challenge of modern times, in response towards the development of the economy we are thinking.”
BRICS Continues Developing Payment System to Rival US Dollar
Putin also discussed how BRICS is currently in the development phase of a unified BRICS payment system rooted in the payment systems of different countries. The new system will be “using the groundwork of the systems in each country in exchanging of financial information,” the Russian president said.
The bloc has continued to embrace trades in local currencies. Moreover, they have worked to develop their unique payment infrastructures. These projects should only encourage financial autonomy. Moreover, they should be clear threats to Western hegemony and US dollar dominance. The most interesting point from Putin’s interview is that despite the de-dollarization efforts, Russia has decided not to ban or abandon the greenback: simply avoid it.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump hinted he would consider lifting sanctions, encouraging the use of the dollar. Now that he will be President again, it will be interesting to see how the bloc responds if he does just that. Putin and China’s President Xi Jinping have already opened the door to speaking to Trump, so perhaps there is a future where BRICS and the US dollar live in harmony.
