PoliticsGovernor Wike Exposed: Extortion Of School Operators By Rivers State Govt. by mordsith(op):
Hello Nairalanders, I am an old member of Nairaland and would love to draw your attention to what is happening in Rivers State concerning the ongoing extortion of School proprietors. Union members of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) are currently under pressure to pay #500,000 to the state government ministry of Education.
Currently over 2,300 schools have settled this illegal fee while others are still at forfeit.

For members that are aware of this please tell your own side of this story to lend credence to it.

In a few posts I will explain from the genesis of this brouhaha.

CrimeRe: What Happened To 74 Year Old Madam Bridget Agbahime Killers by mordsith(op): 7:43pm On Aug 11, 2017
Six weeks after setting free all the ‘prime’ suspects nabbed in connection to the gruesome murder of Bridget Agbahime, the Kano State Government has refused to give any useful explanation for its action.
Several efforts by PREMIUM TIMES within this period to obtain information from the Abdullahi Ganduje administration were frustrated.
Accused by a mob of committing blasphemy against Islam, Mrs. Agbahime, 74, was murdered in broad daylight in downtown Kano on June 2.
The murder, which took place at Kofar Wambai Market, cut deep into Nigeria’s religious and tribal fault lines.
It was roundly condemned by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto; both of whom urged an urgent and diligent investigation by concerned authorities.
On June 4, Mr. Ganduje announced the arrest of one Dauda Ahmad as a ‘prime’ suspect in the murder, which helped douse sectarian tensions that were brewing at the time.
Mr. Ganduje, who announced the arrest at a meeting with a delegate of Christian leaders in the state, promised a thorough prosecution of anyone charged in connection to the murder.
On June 10, the police arraigned five suspects, including Mr. Ahmad, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kano.
The remaining four were: Abdullahi Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi.
They were all charged with four counts of incitement, culpable homicide and mischief, based on sections 144, 80, 51 and 327 of the state penal code. If convicted, the offences could attract a death penalty.
At the opening of the trial, state prosecutor, Dauda Jibrin, submitted to the trial judge that Mr. Ahmad led his alleged accomplices to confront Mrs. Agbahime.
After slapping her several times while chanting ‘Allahu Akbar,’ the suspects then started hitting her with sticks, causing bruises and other bodily injuries to her until she struggled to death, Mr. Jibrin said.
Mr. Jibrin, who was representing the Kano State Attorney-General, Haruna Falali, told the court that even more suspects were at large.
He identified them as: Salawiyu, Ibrahim, Dini, Isiyaku Mada, Mallam Sani and Yunusa Sufi.
Shortly after the suspects were arraigned, the police transferred all the case files to Mr. Falali’s office for legal advice and continued prosecution.
But on November 3, Mr. Falali abruptly withdrew the case and asked the court to discharge all suspects.
Mr. Falali said he discharged them because there was “no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent.” He ordered the court to “discharge all the suspects.”
The announcement sparked a nationwide outrage, with the Christian Association of Nigeria describing it as “highly provocative and insulting act on our collective sensitivities as a democratic nation.”
But efforts by PREMIUM TIMES to get the Kano State Government to give further explanation about its action were rebuffed.
Questions such as who the state believed was responsible for the act since those it initially described as ‘prime’ suspects had been freed, why it failed to move the matter to a high court for prosecution after several months —since the Magistrate Court can not try capital offences— and how it arrived at the decision to exonerate the suspects were left unanswered.
Mike Agbahime, Bridget’s husband, said he identified all the five suspects arraigned in connection to the murder of his wife.
“Yes, I know all of them. Even at the police station, I identified all of them. All of us were in the same market (some of them in the same line),” he told The Punch in an interview last month .
When contacted, Mr. Falali told PREMIUM TIMES that he won’t be able to comment on the matter due to its sensitivity.
The Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, also declined to comment on the matter despite repeated enquiries from this newspaper.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, also declined comments, saying he could not obtain any information from the Attorney-General.
But some officials of the administration who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES on the condition of anonymity blamed Mr. Falali for the withdrawal.
One source said Mr. Falali was determined to hush up the case out of bias even though he was warned not to do so but to charge it to the high court in Kano instead.
“He had made up his mind to silence the case which is the reason he withdrew it when the governor travelled to Cairo,” one official said. “His action will do a lot of damage to this government.”
Mr. Falali declined PREMIUM TIMES’ request for his reaction to the allegations from his cabinet colleagues.
Another source said the governor had not been able to compel Mr. Falali for further explanation because he had been too busy.
“The governor has been very busy and I am sure that must have been the reason he could not force the attorney-general to give Nigerians and the world any explanation,” the source said. “I know this excuse will sound lazy to you because the story is a very big one and the governor had promised to do something about it and clearly failed.”
The police in Kano absolved themselves of any involvement in the withdrawal of the case.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Magaji, told PREMIUM TIMES they arrested the suspects and ensured they were charged to court before pushing the case to the state government.
“Since the state government had decided to withdraw the matter, we could not do anything about it,” Mr. Magaji said. “Our duty as the police was to arrest the suspects and ensure they were immediately charged to court. We did all of that.”
Mr. Magaji said the options of the police are quite narrow at this point.
PREMIUM TIMES’s efforts to reach Mike Agbahime, Bridget’s husband, fell through because he had gone underground. Deeper Life Bible Church, where he had been a preacher for years, has taken charge of his welfare and will only allow him to make any public statement on an occasional basis.
CrimeWhat Happened To 74 Year Old Madam Bridget Agbahime Killers by mordsith(op): 6:22pm On Aug 11, 2017
The last news we heard was that they were freed. This is an extract from Thisday newspaper

A Kano Magistrate Court presided over by Jibrin Muhammad yesterday freed five suspected killers of Igbo woman, Bridget Agbahime.
The 74-year-old trader was killed at Kofar Wambai market for alleged blasphemy.
Muhammad’s decision was based on the directive of the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The freed suspects, Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi were challenged with a four-count charge of allegedly inciting disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.
The woman who hailed from Imo State was murdered on June 2, 2016, at Kofar Wambai market over alleged blasphemy.
In his submission earlier, state counsel, Mr Rabiu Yusuf, who represented the attorney-general of the state, told the court that they have no case against the suspects.
“We received the case diary from the police on June 8 and having gone through the case diary, the attorney- general of the state evaluated the facts in accordance with sections 130 and 150 of the criminal procedure code.”
“The legal advice presented to the court, dated June 24, states that there is no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent, and orders the court to discharge all the suspects.”
However, counsel to the suspects, Mr Abdulsalam Gambo, expressed happiness and commended the attorney-general of the state for the judgment.
THISDAY observed that relations of the suspects who gathered at the court, were jubilating over the judgment.

The Brain Behind The Trap

Humans who set traps or hunt usually engage in a series of processes. We don't just set a trap without first studying the animals in question; what it eats and where it lives.

Back in the village at Oyede Kingdom in Delta state I usually hunt rabbits as a kid.
1. I found out that they ate carrots
2. I knew that they live in holes.

I built a trap that closes when the rabbit entered to eat the carrots.

ALL THESE WERE POSSIBLE BECAUSE I AM HUMAN AND I OBSERVE, READ, ASK QUESTIONS AND ABOVE ALL ELSE I THINK.

We humans are not the only living things that set traps.... animals also set traps too. When this occurs we believe that these animals have observed their prey

However when we learn of plants that build traps we begin to wonder on certain aspects.

let's see an example

A giant plant that can gobble up bugs and even rodents has been discovered in Southeast Asia.
The carnivorous plant ( nepenthes attenboroughii ) was found by researchers atop Mt. Victoria, a remote mountain in Palawan, Philippines. The research team, led by Stewart McPherson of Red Fern Natural History Productions, had learned of the plant in 2000 after a group of Christian missionaries stumbled upon it while trekking up a remote mountain and reported it to a local newspaper.
The discovery, announced last week, was detailed in the Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society.
The pitcher plant is the world's second largest and can grow to more than 4 feet tall, with a pitcher-shaped structure filled with liquid. The plant secretes nectar around its mouth to lure rats, insects and other prey into its trap. Once an animal has fallen in, enzymes and acids in the fluid break down the carcass of the drowned victim.
The world's largest pitcher plant ( nepenthes rajah ) was discovered in 1858 by British naturalist Hugh Low in Borneo. The plant's rat-eating habit was confirmed four years later when his colleague Spenser St. John found a drowned rat inside one of the specimens.
Though some have approached McPherson to ask about the likelihood of cultivating the monster plants as mouse traps for rodent-infested regions like New York City, the botanist (who also happens to specialize in pitcher plants) says he finds the idea "a bit far-fetched."
"Mice and rats are attracted to the sweet nectar of the plant, but it only catches them occasionally," says McPherson. "It just isn't practical. There will be too many mice for the plant to catch anyways."

Here are the quiz for the atheist week 1

How did a plant with no eyes, ears or brain (only has trigger mechanism) do the following.

1. Know of the existence of rodents (rats), rodents and small mammals?

2. How did it discover the diets of the said animals (as I did for rabbits), and hence use such knowledge for trap building?

3 . Efficient design of trap(please feel free to ignore this question if you can't answer 1 and 2)?

Igbo Akiri is an Igbo community in Edo State, Nigeria. It is made up of six villages namely, Umuolua, Obiogba (Aki), Umuiru, Igbonto, Umuodi,
Olije and Ota. The community was previously
misspelt "Igbanke" by the British colonists. But
today, the people of this community have
successfully organized rallies which resulted in
changing their name back to the correct spelling "Igbo Akiri". The leaderdhip of Igbo Akiri is headed by Eze, Dei (Dim), Ndi Ichie, Dike, okenye ulo, and okenye ala.
Each of these heads has their jurisdiction. The
jurisdiction could be stratified into three: The family
level (ezi na ulo), the clan or hamlets and the villages (ebo). At the family level, the okenye ulo
(usually the oldest man in the family) presides. At
the village quarters, the okrnye ala is the head,
while the Eze rules over the entire village.
www.wikipedia.org/wiki/igbo_akiri ............................................................................IGBO AKIRI (IGBANKE) Indigene Wrote: Well i'm not really bothered about the change of name be it Igbanke (Edo) or Igbo akiri (Igbo) because that can change pending on the region you are in, since everyone will want to call it their own way. There is another one which is Omolua (Edo) or as Umuolua (Igbo) but i will prefer to stay in the middle to avoid controversy and the middle is where we really fit in which is Anioma, although that is more Igbo.

I am a first class indigene of Igbanke from Omolua as it or Igbo akiri from Umoulua village (whatever). I'm in my late 30s and what i have always known our king to be called from childhood till date is Eze ( Eze Umuolua) even though most of us call it Omolua. we used to visit the palace whenever we travel. I attended the university of Benin so i know plenty about benin too but my going there was not because we were ceded in Edo State, after all my Dad wanted me in Unilag.

However, i'm naturally at home with Anioma people mainly because of my IKA-ANIOMA LANGUAGE, style of music, cultural attire and way of life with no affiliation to bini which i still do not speak or understand despite living in the town in the past. I have flair for languages but struggling to even understand bini.

We from Igbanke see Agbor as our big brother and that is where we go shopping back in the day. To be honest, Agbor is about 10 mins drive from my village.

Naturally (without struggle) all Igbanke people understand central Igbo language and many of us also speak the central Anioma tongue which i love so much because there is no struggling with it.

I have heard the whole story concerning Ogbemumia and how Igbanke became Edo but most youth of today we are not comfortable in EDO and some of my Yoruba friends in secondary school days jokingly call us slaves because we speak delta, yet being trapped in Edo but that is what it seems. when people ask us where we are from we just say Agbor just to spell us the whole question and answer thing because if you start to speak Ika then i and my brothers can respond better.

whether the Oba of Benin calls the king of Igbanke as enogie does not matter but what the indigenes calls their king is what counts. To call the king an Enogie is expected because he will adopt a bini name and title being that he finds himself under Edo state but ask any Igbanke person (first hand) what we call the king, then you will be told it is Eze because naturally we can relate with that. In my village it is called Eze Omolua. My uncle's name is also Ezewani meaning "the land belongs to the king". In terms of names, we bear Ika-Anioma names and Edo names which for me does not matter because somethings can influence that.

If you ask Igbanke youths out there, none of them will go with Bini because already Agbor and the Ika town is a big influence on us. We have been with Bini since but no affiliation to be honest.

IGBANKE IN SEARCH OF LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL IDENTITY

INTRODUCTION

Language and culture are two of the most fundamental factors that unite and identify a people . A people and their race go into extinction once their language is dead. Once a group of people who share similar linguistic and cultural affinity are dismembered or have other language and culture super-imposed on them, the resultant effect is gradual, systematic and eventual disintegration of the people, their language and culture.

A classical example of a people who have suffered aforementioned linguistic and cultural annihilation were the Sects. Sects, the original owner of the present-day England were, in the 4th century, attacked by the three Germanic tribes- Jutes, Saxons and Anglo-Saxons. The imposition of the dialects of the three Germanic tribes led to the total extinction of the Sectic language.

Though, the descendants of the Sects are still in England, but their linguistic and cultural identity have gone into oblivion.

To this extent, the people of Igbanke in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo state are face the Sects experience. Igbanke is one of the few Ika-speaking communities in Edo state. For this singular reason, they are subjected to all forms of discriminations and marginalization.

STATEMENT OF FACTS ON THE SUBJECT MATTER

The language and culture of the good people of Igbanke are losing their envious identity and relevance in culture-linguistic market-place in Edo state in particular and Nigeria at large.

Several reasons are evidently present to support the fears and anxiety of the people of Igbanke that our identity as a people would go into sudden extinction if urgent measures are not quickly taken to address our emasculation by Bini language dominance. The following points support the facts of the subject matter:

1) Igbanke is one of the few communities in Edo state that speak Ika language

2) Igbanke is located in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Edo state.

3) Igbanke, by name is in Orhionmwon LGA, but geographically, we do not share common boundary with any community in the council

4) From the eastern flank, Igbanke shares common boundary with Mbiri, an Ika speaking community in Delta stae, from west, it’s bounded by Oghada, another Ika speaking community in Uhunmwode LGA in Edo state. In the northern sphere, Igbanke has boundary with Ekpon, Ika speaking community in Igueben LGA while from the south, it has Agbor and Oza-Nogogo, Ika communities in Delta state as neighbours.

5) Igbanke is in Edo south senatorial district

6) Igbanke people and community came under the Bini empire during the latter’s expantionist programme.

7) Most of other Ika speaking communities that were conquered by Bini empire same time with Igbanke have gotten their independence in Delta state while Igbanke, Oghada, Otobaye, Iru, Ekpon and Ogbeka etc are selfishly scattered in three local government areas with the attendant linguistic discrimination and political marginalization.

cool Igbanke are gradually losing their linguistic and cultural identity as a result of our involuntary affiliation to the Bini language-speakers dominated Orhionmwon LGA.

ISSUES FROM THE STATEMENT OF FACTS

Consequent upon the facts drawn from the subject matter, some issues could be deduced to support Igbanke search for linguistic and cultural identity. These issues would go a long way in justifying our position.

1)Igbanke was deliberately, but selfishly carved into Edo state during the 1991 state creation irrespective of the linguistic difference between the people of Igbanke and the dominant Bini speaking population of the state.

2) Over 96% of Ika speaking communities in the defunct Bendel state were carved into Delta state while Igbanke and a handful other Ika speaking communities were severed into Edo state where they are presently subjected to acute linguistic and sundry discriminations

3) Because of linguistic factor, the people of Igbanke feel more at home with their kiths and kins (Ika speaking people) in Edo and Delta states.

4) Igbanke is made up of six (6) autonomous clans: Ake/Obiogba, Idumu-Odin, Igbontor, Oligie, Omolua and Ottah. These clans were governed by traditional rulers called ‘’Eze or Obi’’. These terms were of Ika origin, but have been forcefully changed to ‘’Enogie’’ a Bini term by the conquering Binis.

5) Our ancestral heritage like language, names and beliefs are being systematically destroyed by the domineering power of the Binis.

ARGUMENTS IN SUPPORT OF ISSUES RAISED

1)Most Igbanke indigenes who have Ika ancestral names like, “Emeka”, “Maduka”, “Chukwuka’’, “Chinyere”, “Amaka and “Ogorchukwu etc are often confronted with all forms of harrowing experiences when there are needs to visit our council headquarters, Abudu to process one official documents or the other. We are often denied the issuance of documents like, ‘’Certificate of Local Government of origin’’, Protest Letter’’, To Whom it May Concern’’ etc on the guise that we are Igbos not Binis.

2) Those who have the likes of the Ika aforementioned names, but can speak Bini language are rarely subjected to the above embarrassments and discriminations. This act goes a long way to vindicate our fear that there is a subtle, but carefully planned agenda to make us lose and abandon our ancestral linguistic and cultural heritage.

3) In order to escape from these unnecessary embarrassments, some have no other option left than to change their identity from Ika to Bini names.

4) Today, we, the good people of Igbanke are gradually losing our once envied linguistic and cultural identity.

5) Some of the eminent sons and daughters of Igbanke, whom out of their outstanding contributions to the development of the community, were recognized and given chieftaincy titles had had such titles changed from their original Ika origin to Bini equivalence. For example, few years ago, one of our sons who addressed himself as “Chief Orike-Eze” in Oba of Benin palace was shamefully harassed, insulted and forcefully forced, right in the palace to change the title to its Bini version. According to the palace, the title, “Orike-Eze” had its origin from Ika and Igbo nations.

5) Most times, when we have cause to attend meetings with the Binis in our local government area or senatorial district, deliberations are often conducted in Bini in language without considering the fact that the people of Igbanke in such meeting neither speak nor understand the language. Often than not, when we attend such meetings, we left the venue more confused than we were before we went.

6) In Edo state, Igbanke is only tolerated, not respected, seen, but not accepted. Today, in Edo state, plans are underway by the state Ministry of Education to introduce the teaching of Bini language in Primary and Secondary schools across Edo south senatorial district including Igbanke. Unfortunately, our indigenous language, Ika is not in any way considered qualified and appropriate to be taught in schools in Igbanke. To us, its another deliberate attempt to send our linguistic identity into extinction.

7) Our people have also suffered several inexplicable discriminations when it comes to political appointments. During the 2013 Edo state local government elections, one of our sons, Mr. Peter Ikem was refused to contest the chairmanship position in Orhionmwon local government area. Reason? His surname, “Ikem” was an Igbo, not Bini name.

PRAYERS/ RELIEFS SOUGHT

Sir, based on the foregoing, we therefore, solemnly ask for the folling:

1) A local government be created that would comprise all Ika speaking communities scattered in Orhionmwon, Uhunmwode and Igueben LGAs of Edo state. Some of the Ika speaking communities in Edo stateinclude:

Orhionmwon LGA ----Igbanke, Iru, Ohezenaka, Otobaye, Ugbeka

Uhunmwode LGA ----- Oghada

Igueben LGA ------- Ekpon

2) Where, for any reason, creation of a local government area that would consist all Ika speaking communities is not in the immediate possible or feasible, we therefore ask that Igbanke be severed from Edo state and merged with our kiths and kins in Ika south local government area in Delta state.

3) The people of Igbanke should be seen, recognized and accepted as Ika people residing in Edo.

4) That Igbanke people, based on our forceful membership of Edo state, reserved the natural and inalienable right to decide, at any time, either to continue our membership with the Binis in Edo state or join our Ika kiths and kins in Delta state.

CONCLUSION

Igbanke is an Ika speaking community in Orhionmwon local government, Edo state

We, the people Igbanke are gradually losing our linguistic and cultural identity as a result of our forceful membership with the Binis through conquest.

If urgent measures are not taken, our linguistic and cultural identity would sooner than later go into sudden extinction. In order to avoid the impending extermination of our race, we therefore, ask that a local government area be created that would consist of Igbanke and other Ika speaking communities in Edo state.

Alternatively, if local government creation is not feasible or possible, Igbanke, should therefore, be severed from Edo state and merged with Ika south local government area in Delta state.

Former national chairman, Traditional Rulers of Oil Producing Communities of Nigeria, TROMPCON, His Majesty, Charles Ayemi-Botu, has said the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo “goofed by harping” on the Nigerian constitution to insist that the country remains an indivisible entity.
Ayemi-Botu, who is a paramount ruler of Siembiri Kingdom, Delta State, made the observation in Warri, when he played host to a delegation of the United States, US, Consulate, led by Paul Hines, Political and Economic Adviser to the Consul General, who visited to find out how Niger Delta communities were fairing under the leadership of Osinbajo.
According to Ayemi-Botu, “Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, harped on the indivisibility of Nigeria and the illegality of any opinion opposed to that based on the constitution.
“Without fear or favour, the Acting President goofed in that thinking. The constitution is dynamic and amenable to change. Buhari came to power promising change, and change we want.
“The 1914 – 2014 treaty of amalgamation of Nigeria by Lord Lugard is gone and expired. Added to the force of the 2014 confab and the glaring inequality among groups where Niger Delta, the goose that lays the golden egg, is perpetual second- class citizens, the indivisibility of Nigeria has become too shaky to tarry.
“Under the circumstance, the peaceful way to go is restructuring and the best tool to achieve that is referendum. That is why we call on the US and the developed West to prevail on Federal Government to allow referendum for people to fairly determine where they want to be.
“Individuals, groups and zones can raise sentiments, but oil, particularly the vast reserves in my Niger Delta, the economic live wire the entire nation survives on is the only unifying factor for sustained unified Nigeria. But for oil which makes up 98 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP, Nigeria would not have been.”
