It so happened that we were enroute my lodge that day...


Because the look of TERROR on my driver's face is one picture that would never leave my mind

I woke up with a start and the look on my drivers face was very shocking


He looked white


Like all the blood had been drained out of his face


I was like "Oga wetin happen"


He swallowed hard before he spoke to me


He told me that the car in front of us had just been robbed by some men armed with guns and axes...


And the driver of that vehicle was shot in his shoulders


I don't know how he got that news or who told him but...


I froze in my seat too as he spoke


Suddenly, my driver went into swift action mode...


it was like he had a rush of adrenaline


He immediately wrapped his hands around his steering wheel..


And with a fiery look in his eyes he took a sharp turn


The turn was so sharp I could have sworn that he acted in the Fast & Furious movie


I was experiencing Death race live


Fortunately, he knew another road that led to my lodge


This road was 3x longer than the normal road we were meant to follow


5x rougher


And I'd say 7x dustier and dirtier


And for someone who had whined so much about the cost of fuel and the effect of bad roads...


My driver drove without a single tiny complaint


He dropped me off at the front of my lodge and left after I paid him


But the events of that night still left an imprint on my mind


I don't know if my driver drove back through the normal road (which seems very impossible) or the rough one...


But what I know is...


The fear of death motivated my driver to ignore the price of fuel and focus his whole energy on getting us to safety


Maybe he felt like he still had his whole life in front of him


Or he had a family to take care of


Or he had a sweetheart who promised to satisfy him with sex later that night


All I know is that he just wasn't ready to die that evening


And that was enough for him to take swift action


Now here's the lesson...


Fear can be a very great motivator


And it's one emotion every marketer or business owner should know how to harness


Because it can make you a lot of sales


And that's why the Health niche is one of the most lucrative niches to venture into


In the health niche...


Almost every consequence can be tied to death


And this propels their customers to take swift action


And most times that is...

Explain the problem to them as clearly as you can.

E.g I remember when I used to be broke, I was always angry, I didn't know if it was because I was angry that I was broke or if it was because I was broke that I was angry, either way, I hated them both...

That's me explaining the emotions that come with being broke...

Are you getting the picture??

Give valid reasons why yours is the best.

They've used other things, yours is different.

And make them do it NOW... or else they won't.

People are lazy, they want to procrastinate.

Use urgency.

Use promo.

A CV is called curriculum vitae, which is translated "Curriculum of Life" while resume is translated as "Summary"

This already shows that the CV is meant to be longer than the resume. The CV is just a blank and empty paper without words, so words is what evokes the perception and emotion any reader will have for you or about you.

One can tell you, "I'm a Marketer" and another can say "I help companies and brands Communicate their values and services to their target audience"

The two different, sentences mean the same thing but one evokes a higher perception of the problem solved and gains more attention than the other.

Another scenario, one can say "He or She is a motivational speaker" while someone can say it better this way "He or She is a Life Coach, who helps people discover their purpose with quick steps and high clarity"

Find a way to say what you do in a way that commands attention.

Why? Because the CV is a battle of attention with words, when everyone knows how to do the same thing, what makes you outstanding is your presentation and power of persuasion (Ability to speak or sell well)

And CV has been existing for as far back as when men started communicating.

Can you remember when you wanted to visit your friend and then you forgot his home address but then you recall that he told you he lives around a certain place, all you need to do is to go there and speak his CV,

That is the mistake most of us do while creating a CV, now Lets change the question "I'm looking for where I can eat Edikakong soup, with pounded cassava and cow meat/goat meat"

It is easier for you to recommend an eatery even though it is not close by, But both of us would be so sure that I would definitely see the food there.

Same with Ice cream, I can easily get Ice cream from anywhere, Bicycle riders, eateries, fast food, home, But if I wanted Cold Stone (the answer comes with accuracy)

So what do you want to be?

I’ll be honest, a lot of the Proposals/Cover Letters that freelancers will submit to clients on Upwork today will be pretty underwhelming!

Many mistakes will be made – one of the chief among them being what I call the “me, myself & I” Proposal…

That’s where the freelancer uses their precious Cover Letter space to tell the client all about themselves… Without ever addressing the client’s specific needs, concerns, goals, etc!

Now I’m not judging because it’s not really anyone’s fault as this is how they teach you to write Cover Letters in school.

But when you’re writing an Upwork Proposal/Cover Letter, using the “me myself & I” approach is a missed opportunity!

To understand why, consider this old salesperson’s saying…

It may seem self-centered but it’s only natural. Think about something as simple as getting a haircut…

Yes you want to know that the person cutting your hair is reputable and capable, but you better believe you’re going to want to hear them talk about your hair and how they can help you make you look great!

So there’s a balance there of giving clients useful information about you, and talking about their needs.

But honestly I think most freelancers tip the scale too far in the direction of talking about themselves. Especially since clients can easily click through to your Profile if they’re curious about your general background info.
