kes4glory: I secured an MPOwer Loan for fall2024, however I didn't go ahead with the process. I have an offer for Fall 2025, I'm concerned about the chances of visa approval with M power loan.
Please is it advisable to use MPOwer Loan as POF or use someone else's account for proof of funds.
I need your guidance guys, I need your wisdom to navigate this. I used MPower loans when I applied for my visa back in 2022 and was approved. I only got partial assistantship/scholarships from my department which wasn’t enough to cover all expenses. I had $15k deficit so I used the loan as POF. I think visas can be approved with loans when you have some type of scholarships/assistantship and you prepare a coherent response for when asked. I had less than 1million in my account when I went for the interview and self-sponsor was listed on my I-20 since I had no family member or business or employer to sponsor me. Disclaimer: don’t take my word for it, just adding my 2cents |

Zanemom: Hi. I just got my I20 from Murray state university to study Public Administration with concentration in public health. My undergraduate program is Law. I have 8 years experience in law practice and I intend to go with my 2 kids and spouse. Please what are my chances of visa approval? My sister inlaw, my husbands sister is sponsoring, a pharmacist in Georgia USA. Please guys help, as am scared of the outcome. I don’t think your course of study is an issue here, Law is a broad discipline; all you have to do is to prepare a cogent reply why a Public health specialty in administration is a passion you want to pursue. The main issue is your sponsor, how can you convince the VO that your sister in-law will not only cover your tuition and living expenses but will do same for your spouse and all your kids. That’s not what one individual can do; even parents here in the US don’t sponsor their own kids, they only help them secure a loan. In my first visa interview I was denied; within 6 months I secured scholarships from my department and re-applied for the visa and was approved. Getting partial/full scholarship is key not only for visa approvals but also for survival while studying in the US. You have 8 years experience, I’m sure that if you put in the work you’ll get some type of funding. Also, visa fees are high if you get denied, you’d have to pay again for the whole family. Please take my advise with a grain of salt, just wanted to contribute to the forum to keep it alive since it helped me tremendously |

Cheundaisi: Good morning House. Thank you very much for your previous help and supports. Please. MPower loan was approved last week Friday, and the start date is Spring, 2025.. What will be the best time to put in for the visa application. Please I learnt that the visa interview using MPower financing if tougher. Please can any wonderful person in the house help with useful suggestions and advice on how to emerge successful in the interview. Mpower loan will fly if you have a good chunk of your expenses waived. At the time I used Mpower loan for my visa application 2 years ago, my deficit was 15k total was 35k. I got a partial waiver so I used the loan to cover for the rest. I planned my response very well and included it in my application when I was asked what was the reason for my denial. This was my second interview so I was very prepared. So I think you should focus on getting some time of waiver first (full or partial) |

Slimszy: Thank you for your thoughts. Here is my transcript below.
Abuja May 2024 Full Funding VO: Window 10 (A pointed nose white lady) Deniedo
VO: What school are you going to? I didn't hear her the first two times, and I mentioned she should please repeat herself.
F1: I am going to university of maryland, college park to pursue a Masters in Fine Art, I will be majoring in Painting. - Immediate I mentioned Master in Fine Art, she replied Okay, before I was able to stretch it to my major - Painting. *I realised she wants direct answers*
VO: Who is covering your deficit? checking through her system.
F1: I don't have a deficit as I have been awarded a full funding - Graduate Assistantship which covers my living expenses and health insurance. *immediately she responded Okay* and checks my I-20.
VO: Have you traveled out of the country before.
F1: Yes, I have. I have been to Bleep for my work program, I have also been to Bleep for work program as well, then she cuts me by her OKAY.
VO: What is your post study plan
F1: Upon the completion of my program to I will be returning to my country to transit into the academia while I take the role of a lecturer in the department of fine Art at Bleep University, where I will be teaching university students art and its contemporary practices. I will also be coming back to expand my studio practice back home (before I could proceed, she said OKAY)
VO: Tell me about your academic background
F1: I have a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in History, and after my graduation I enrolled for an internship under Bleep art studio where I learnt how to paint and draw because of my passion for Art. (she cuts me Okay). Then you are not qualified for this student visa at this moment.
Notes: She asked a question after the first one which I cannot remember. But I stuttered at first, before gaining my balance. My response was tying what the degree will do for me back home. I remember I talked about taking a lecturing position.
Maybe I was anxious at first, I don't know. But I understand I answered every question. I think you deserved approval. If you can a new date I’m sure you’ll get it. Try and avoid her at all cost and pray. Also I don’t think you need to state your internship…. You can rephrase like….After obtaining my bachelors in History, I joined a art studio company focused on painting commercial and pent houses (look for something nice lol), my duties at the role include coloring of ###, depicting of ### to fit into grand pieces of furniture (I don’t know your specialty) that’s was how I came about my passion for art. |

horcart: Good morning. I have a question to ask. I got a student athlete scholarship and my deficit is around 5k But my sponsor is my mother, I used her Bank statement doing the admission process and she reside in USA and also a citizen over there. So, the question is: in my DS160 should I indicates that the person who is paying for my trip is my parent or I should indicate that it's myself? I think you’re good to go, prepare very well for this answer. You can rephrase like…..My mom, Mrs Bleep will be the one covering my deficit and I have a savings of $Bleep to serve as a backup funds should I need anything.. |

Bigdoo11: Hi all, My visa application was refused last month due my huge deficit, now I have received tuition wavier and GA position, I want to reapply. My school resumes September which doesn’t give me a lot of time. My question is if I will be able to get a new appointment date since I was recently refused. Will be be able to request for an EA? Any ideas please If you received a full waiver that covers your tuition and living expenses then try hard to get a date in September. There will be no need to defer if you’re able to. The school will be willing to adjust your date of arrival. I know someone who arrived 3 weeks after official date. I honestly don’t think your EA will be approved especially if you’ve applied within the paste 6 months but it is worth trying! |

Timotte: Apply with the 304 score. Your GRE isn't the only thing that is assessed on your application. You have a good GPA. What you need is to get very strong recommendation letters (not the typical ones written by most lecturers). The recommendation letters should be personal and give examples of attributes that are stated in the letter. I can send you a sample of a strong engineering recommendation letter if you need one. Additional, have a well written personal statement that clearly outlines your research interest(s). If you have any publication, it can further strengthen your application. But if you don't have any, it wouldn't harm you either. I have a friend who had a WES evaluated GPA of 3.11 and a GRE score of 294 who got admitted to the chemical engineering masters program at the University of North Dakota with full tuition waiver and a graduate research assistantship for Spring 2022 (he got his visa yesterday). He had very strong recommendation letters and a well written personal statement that strengthened his application. Pls do u have a strong recommendation letter for a Masters in Construction Management, I'll send an email to you |
