ASUU strike: Good news as CONUA meets FG, assured of possible registration in four weeks

The Monopoly of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may soon be broken as a sister union, Congress of University Academics (CONUA) , on Thursday, met with the Minister of Labour and Employment , Senator Chris Ngige, at the Conference hall of the Ministry in Abuja, to press home their application to be registered and have their activities as academic trade union in Nigerian Universities legitimized.



Led by the national Coordinator of the union, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, the 10-man delegate of CONUA which comprises 9 members of its national executives and a member, had a meeting that lasted for about three hours and which was covered by newsmen.

Addressing newsmen and the Minister of labour, Dr. Sunmonu, who is a lecturer with the Obafemi Awolowo University, said: “CONUA now has members in 17 public universities across the nation which included OAU, UNIBEN, OOU, Ambrosi Alli University, FUOYE, and federal universities in Otuoke, Jos, Abuja Owerri among others.
His words: “…the first National Stakeholders’ meeting of CONUA was held in OAU between 4th and 6th October 2019, with representatives of the following five (5) Universities (branches) in attendance: Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU); Kwara State University, Malete (KWASU); the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL); Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAUE) and the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). CONUA branches and memberships continue to increase. CONUA currently operates in seventeen (17) Universities, with addition of the following eleven (11) branches: University of PortHacourt; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; University of Benin; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye; University of Abuja; Delta State University, Abraka, Federal University, Otuoke, University of Jos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.

“The membership of CONUA covers the various geographical areas and cuts across all academic professions and ranks; from Graduate Assistant to Professor.
As law-abiding citizens, CONUA members immediately resolved to apply for registration of CONUA as a Trade Union within the Nigerian state. More so, CONUA is not part of ASUU as we operate as independent union in Nigerian Universities.



” The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) a new and fast growing union of academics in Nigerian universities, having considered the issues affecting university education in Nigeria, especially from the perspective of unionism has declared that we need a paradigm shift from the old order as it will no longer be business as usual in our universities. The following are the core focus of CONUA as a union:
Inculcate the spirit of discipline among our members to do their work in a manner that will impact positively on the nation.




•Minister of labour and Employment with executives of CONUA after the meeting on Thursday
“Raise the consciousness of our members on ethical conduct on issues of sexual harassment and how to build a relationship between students and lecturers.

” Ensure seamless and uninterrupted academic calendar in the university system.

“Educate the government and the public on the need for effective and efficient educational system in the country.

” We see ourselves as partners in national development; therefore we will be involved in national discourse to assist the government to take an informed position on national issues.

“CONUA as a union does not antagonize other unions in the university but to set things straight and channel the energy of the Nigeria academia to productive drives. The old adage “two is better than one” becomes instructive as CONUA is set to working together with other unions in the universities and this will break the monopoly that breeds absolute power and autocracy in unionism. The aim is to offer the university system the enhanced benefits of competition and choice,” he said.

Responding, Dr. Ngige said:. “What you have done by asking for registration is legitimate. We will not be biased as we will treat you fairly. Your application is being considered and we will ensure that the Committee that is handling it expedites action on it so that in four weeks we have their report. You have rejected a reconciliation between your union and ASUU by stating that you have irreconcilable differences. We will act on that.

” On the issue of University autonomy. The regulations backing it was enacted with the implied implication that the University Governing Council will generate its own funds. The University in Maryland in USA that is autonomous generates its own funds and that is obtainable in abroad where universities are autonomous. I am not one of the government officials that have our children in foreign universities. I have three children in public universities in Nigeria even though they have dual citizenship of America and Nigeria. They also had their secondary school education here.

” Being a member of a union is voluntary and your request is right in that direction. We are with you in spirit and you have taken a legitimate step. We have directed that all earned allowances of all staff of public varsities be computed through the Heads of Departments and submitted to the University Bursars. This is to erode a situation whereby some staff members would be left out of benefiting from the allowances. It is also to enable that we have authentic amount to be disbursed for the payment. IPPIS is making some modifications on the platform which will ensure that it’s officials will not have to come to campuses to physically capture staff. They are also improving on areas where there have been complaints. And they also welcome more areas of challenges for improvement,” he said.

Dear Governor Seyi Makinde, my attention has been drawn to your comments on Oba Akinbiyi Model School.



I want to provide the following information, so that you will let Governor Ajimobi rest in peace.



The model schools were supposed to be six ab initio.
The initial arrangement was that the Contractor will fund the projects and Government will pay later.
3 When it was obvious that the “financial” of the Contractor can not provide the fund for him, Government decided to construct three model schools and fund it based on milestones achieved.

At a point, it became obvious that the pace at which the projects were going, they may not be completed during the administration of Governor Ajimobi.
At one of the cabinets meeting, the contracts were terminated and the Ministry of works , was directed, to take over the completion of the projects (check the cabinet record for this)
Ministry of work took over the constructions of
(a) Oba Akinbiyi Model School and (b) Islamic model school while that of Shaki could not be completed within the time frame left.
(7) All these records can be provided by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of works.

Dear Governor Seyi Makinde, I believe strongly that you ought to look at all these and possibly asked for detail reports (from both Ministry of Education and Works) before your derogatory comments on the late Governor Ajimobi. Let me add for your information and urgent attention that Ogbomoso model school (started during the Akala regime completed by Ajimobi is 99 percent ready) kindly do the needful to let the place be put into good use .

While I am not appealing to you to cover any shady deals, if any, it is immoral and ungovernor-like to make press comments on issues that you have not been adequately briefed.

Dear Mr. Governor, everything in life is ephemeral, you will one day leave the post but now that you’re are there, do your best and leave the rest.

I wish you the best in the difficult but interesting task of leadership.

May Oyo-State continue to wax stronger and may the Almighty God give you the wisdom and strength to leave the state better that you met.

"My past teachings against prosperity responsible for poverty of Deeper Life members", Kumuyi Admits



If you are looking for one man whose life and ministry have produced tremendous results and consistent impact over the past five decades, look no further than Pastor Williams Folorunsho kumuyi, the General Superintendent, Deeper Life Bible Church, worldwide.

Since 1973, when Deeper Life Church was established by Pastor Kumuyi, the man of God, is no stranger to controversy, for reasons of many controversial doctrines held by the church, dictated by strong aversion to worldliness and all forms of carnality.



Yet, no one can ever deny Pastor Kumuyi’s consistent track as a preacher of holiness, highly vast in the knowledge of the mind of God as revealed in the Bible, humble, clear thinking and man of simplicity.

The Word of God is ever new and refreshing each passing day.. In life, change is a constant phenomenon. Although God’s word contains changeless truths, a Christian’s understanding of scriptural verses of the Bible, is subject to change, particularly, if guided by the Holy Spirit, whom the Bible calls: Teacher, Comforter, Revealer and Advocate.

It is for this reason that doctrines of churches vary from one church to another.


There is a wide world of difference between the word of God and doctrine. While God’s word is sacrosanct and not subject to change, doctrine has to do with our own interpretation of the word of God, which can be subject to change, based on another level of deeper understanding of the scriptures.



Pastor Kumuyi, on a number of occasions, has had cause to publicly admit errors and missteps of the past. He is not the type to deny his own humanness as a fallible individual. Yes, he is a man of God but he is, first and foremost, a man with flesh and blood.

In fact, avid watchers of changing trends in the Deeper Life Church would notice that there has been a seamless transition from what can be likened to the old order and the present new order.

Not too long ago, Kumuyi declared before his teeming congregation that they should expect marked changes in the doctrines and orientation of the church, admitting that some of the doctrines were mere necessities of the past times when there was no complete understanding.

The holiness preacher, while delivering his homily monitored via satellite, admitted that his teachings in the past which focused more on Salvation, but downplayed the issue of Prosperity has been responsible for reasons why a vast majority of Deeper Life brethren are look poor in their physical appearance.

Hear the man of God: “When I look at the faces of some of you, I feel ashamed. I feel embarrassed at the way you look. You look poverty-stricken, You look wretched. And, I don’t feel happy when I see you in this way.

“But I have found out that it is not your fault. It was because of what we taught you in times past. We told you then that only SALVATION is what you need and that PROSPERITY is not what you must crave for.

“But, I tell you today that if you have SALVATION and it’s not going on side-by-side with PROSPERITY, particularly that of the mind and soul, then your SALVATION may be endangered”.

It is probably for these past teachings that account for reasons why there has been a marked differentiation of Deeper Life folks in terms of doctrinal pattern, dressing , mode of worship and even, strangely pious lifestyles.

Indeed, Deeper Life is like no other church, even among those of the Pentecostal extraction.

Pastor Kumuyi’s oft-repeated Mantra especially in the early days of the church, has always been anchored on the Holy Scriptures, Hebrews chapter 13, verse 13 which says: “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come”.



Therefore, what the Mantra implies is this: living for heaven, is the ultimate goal of the average Deeper Life congregation member.

In 1 Corinthians 13: 11-12, Apostle Paul stated: _” When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. ”_

Pastor Kumuyi who is expected to attain the Octogenarian status by his next birthday in June 2021, not too long ago gave another shocker with respect to impending major changes church-wide.

He said: “These changes will happen before I leave, I mean before I go, I am going to remove everything that I set up that I thought would help Deeper Life and make us holy, and make us sanctified, make us deep, make us deeper. And if I see it is not making us deeper but shallow, before I leave , I will uproot all of them and will present to you a pure church before I leave.

“What we have currently is that the young people fear Marriage Committee more than they fear God, We’ will knock off Marriage Committee because marriage committee is our own making, it is not in the Bible.”

Kumuyi also promised to put an end to women ministry, noting that “Women ministry is our own making, it is not in the Acts of the Apostles. If it is not helping us, if it is going to hinder us, we’ will strike it off.”


Born on June 6, 1941, Pastor W.F. Kumuyiwas born into a Christian family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria, The young Kumuyi got an experiential knowledge of who Jesus Christ was, and what radical changes He could effect in lives surrendered to His lordship.

He was introduced to the Apostolic Faith Church. Where he heard the Gospel, and believed the word of God on righteousness, temperance, judgment to come, and salvation from sin: He became born again on Sunday, April 5, 1964

Pastor Kumuyi gained admission to study Mathematics at the University of Ibadan, obtaining a first class degree in 1967. He subsequently enrolled for a postgraduate course in Education at the University of Lagos, Lagos. On the completion of his postgraduate study, he became a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at UNILAG.

The Deeper Life Bible Church, which now has over one million members in more than sixty countries around the world, started as a 15-member Bible Study Group in Pastor Kumuyi’s official quarters at the University of Lagos in August, 1973.

This is a seeming bizarre traditional Korean rice wine named, ‘Ttongsul’ which traditionalists use human POO to produce it and can reportedly ‘heal’ everything from broken bones to epilepsy.

Ttongsul is a traditional medication from the country of ginseng and a kind of wine with 9 percent alcohol. The extreme part is that this wine uses human feces in the fermentation process.



This ancient drug which is rather-disgusting potion has been used since centuries ago and started to be abandoned in 1960. However, the video tape of its making process has only recently been viral.



“The making of this ‘feces wine’ was tracked down by a VICE correspondent. The correspondent found a Korean traditional doctor who claimed to be the last person who knows about the making process,” wrote Daily Mail in 2018 report. Dr Lee Chang Soo, the doctor, said the potion can heal several diseases like fractured bones and epilepsy.



Soo stated only the feces of 6-year-old children can be used, which, according to him, are still clean and do not stink. Yuka Uchida, a VICE correspondent tried to drink the wine. According to her, it tasted just like any other wine but she could not clear off her mind from thinking about the feces and she felt like she smelled a feces odor when sipping the drink.

During the interview with popular gospel singer and OAP, Yinka Ayefele on his radio station, Fresh FM Shina Rambo also revealed what he did to wealth he made from robbery.



The former robbery kingpin during the radio program professed that he is now a changed man working for God as a preacher of the gospel of Christ.



He said though he had acted so wickedly in the past by killing numerous people but said that was then when devil was controlling his soul. He added that now, Christ has arrested his soul and have surrendered his life to Him.



He also revealed that the name 'Shina Rambo' stood for fame and also revealed that those that were arrested in the past were mistaken identity for him saying it was as a mysterious power he possessed.



He revealed that he can’t mix blood money with legitimate money he is making now, saying he has as a result given the money and wealth made from robbery to charity.



Shina Rambo on Sunday night during the weekend Yoruba programme on Fresh FM Radio in Ibadan said his real name are Oluwasina Oluwagbemiga.



He confessed to be the same person whose gang terrorised some parts of the country for years and tormented innocent citizens with attacks, killings and maiming.
