Christianity EtcQuestion: "Women Pastors / Preachers? Can A Woman Be A Pastor Or Preacher?" by mrkunlex(op): 6:40am On Feb 11, 2018
Answer: There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than the issue of women
serving as pastors/preachers. As a result, it is very
important to not see this issue as men versus
women. There are women who believe women
should not serve as pastors and that the Bible places
restrictions on the ministry of women, and there are
men who believe women can serve as preachers and
that there are no restrictions on women in ministry.
This is not an issue of chauvinism or discrimination. It
is an issue of biblical interpretation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-PUtuzYzJg
In the church,
The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn
in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a
woman to teach or to have authority over a man;
she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12) God assigns different roles to men and women. This
is a result of the way mankind was created and the
way in which sin entered the world (
1 Timothy 2:13–
14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women
from serving in roles of teaching and/or having
spiritual authority over men. This precludes women
from serving as pastors over men, which definitely
includes preaching to them, teaching them publicly,
and exercising spiritual authority over them.
There are many objections to this view of women in
pastoral ministry. A common one is that Paul restricts
women from teaching because in the first century,
women were typically uneducated. However,
1
Timothy 2:11–14 nowhere mentions educational status.
If education were a qualification for ministry, then the
majority of Jesus’ disciples would not have been
qualified. A second common objection is that Paul
only restricted the women of Ephesus from teaching
men (1 Timothy was written to Timothy, the pastor of
the church in Ephesus). Ephesus was known for its
temple to Artemis, and women were the authorities
in that branch of paganism—therefore, the theory
goes, Paul was only reacting against the female-led
customs of the Ephesian idolaters, and the church
needed to be different. However, the book of 1
Timothy nowhere mentions Artemis, nor does Paul
mention the standard practice of Artemis worshipers
as a reason for the restrictions in
1 Timothy 2:11–12.
A third objection is that Paul is only referring to
husbands and wives, not men and women in general.
The Greek words for “woman” and “man” in
1
Timothy 2 could refer to husbands and wives;
however, the basic meaning of the words is broader
than that. Further, the same Greek words are used in
verses 8–10. Are only husbands to lift up holy hands
in prayer without anger and disputing (verse cool? Are
only wives to dress modestly, have good deeds, and
worship God (verses 9–10)? Of course not. Verses 8–
10 clearly refer to all men and women, not just
husbands and wives. There is nothing in the context
that would indicate a narrowing to husbands and
wives in verses 11–14.
Yet another objection to this interpretation of women
in pastoral ministry is in relation to women who held
positions of leadership in the Bible, specifically Miriam,
Deborah, and Huldah in the Old Testament. It is true
that these women were chosen by God for special
service to Him and that they stand as models of faith,
courage, and, yes, leadership. However, the authority
of women in the Old Testament is not relevant to the
issue of pastors in the church. The New Testament
Epistles present a new paradigm for God’s people—
the church, the body of Christ—and that paradigm
involves an authority structure unique to the church,
not for the nation of Israel or any other Old
Testament entity.
Similar arguments are made using Priscilla and
Phoebe in the New Testament. In
Acts 18, Priscilla and
Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ.
Priscilla’s name is mentioned first, perhaps indicating
that she was more prominent in ministry than her
husband. Did Priscilla and her husband teach the
gospel of Jesus Christ to Apollos? Yes, in their home
they “explained to him the way of God more
adequately” (Acts 18:26). Does the Bible ever say that
Priscilla pastored a church or taught publicly or
became the spiritual leader of a congregation of
saints? No. As far as we know, Priscilla was not
involved in ministry activity in contradiction to
1
Timothy 2:11–14.
In Romans 16:1, Phoebe is called a “deacon” (or
“servant”) in the church and is highly commended by
Paul. But, as with Priscilla, there is nothing in Scripture
to indicate that Phoebe was a pastor or a teacher of
men in the church. “Able to teach” is given as a
qualification for elders, but not for deacons (
1 Timothy
3:1–13; Titus 1:6–9).
The structure of 1 Timothy 2:11–14 makes the reason
why women cannot be pastors perfectly clear. Verse
13 begins with “for,” giving the “cause” of Paul’s
statement in verses 11–12. Why should women not
teach or have authority over men? Because “Adam
was created first, then Eve. And Adam was not the
one deceived; it was the woman who was
deceived” (verses 13–14). God created Adam first and
then created Eve to be a “helper” for Adam. The
order of creation has universal application in the
family (
Ephesians 5:22–33) and in the church.
The fact that Eve was deceived is also given in 1
Timothy 2:14 as a reason for women not serving as
pastors or having spiritual authority over men. This
does not mean that women are gullible or that they
are all more easily deceived than men. If all women
are more easily deceived, why would they be
allowed to teach children (who are easily deceived)
and other women (who are supposedly more easily
deceived)? The text simply says that women are not
to teach men or have spiritual authority over men
because Eve was deceived. God has chosen to give
men the primary teaching authority in the church.
Many women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy,
teaching, evangelism, and helping/serving. Much of
the ministry of the local church depends on women.
Women in the church are not restricted from public
praying or prophesying (
1 Corinthians 11:5), only from
having spiritual teaching authority over men. The
Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the
gifts of the Holy Spirit (
1 Corinthians 12). Women, just
as much as men, are called to minister to others, to
demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (
Galatians 5:22–23),
and to proclaim the gospel to the lost (Matthew
28:18–20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15).
God has ordained that only men are to serve in
positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church.
This is not because men are necessarily better
teachers or because women are inferior or less
intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the
way God designed the church to function. Men are to
set the example in spiritual leadership—in their lives
and through their words. Women are to take a less
authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach
other women (
Titus 2:3–5). The Bible also does not
restrict women from teaching children. The only
activity women are restricted from is teaching or
having spiritual authority over men. This precludes
women from serving as pastors to men. This does not
make women less important, by any means, but
rather gives them a ministry focus more in
agreement with God’s plan and His gifting of them.

*IMMORALITY IN OUR LIVING ROOM: THE BIG
BROTHER NAIJA SHOW.*

```There's a notorious programme currently going on
called THE BIG BROTHER NAIJA. The winner of this
notorious show is expected to walk away with a
whopping N25 million and a breathtaking car. All that
is required to win this show is to be Live with a
bunch of fellow crazy, irresponsible people, do all
sorts of immoral things, and you're the winner.
Next thing, you're called a celebrity, winning big
advertisement contracts and becoming the face of
multinational companies.
If only there could be an educating version of this
programme. If only they could house some intelligent
people in like manner and make them compete for
similar prizes. But, no! Our people do not encourage
sanity. Our society promotes evil over good,
indecency over decency, immorality over morality,
and ungodliness over godliness.
The best in Mathematics competitions will go home
with either a carton of cowbell milk or Indomie
noodles, ridiculous stipends and laughable prizes. Yet
these morons in BBN will earn millions for coming to
suck breasts, speak thrash, display nudity, and get
under the sheets on International TVs.
Our rich individuals, companies and corporate
organisations will spend huge sums of money
sponsoring dirty shows like BBN and Beauty Pageants
where they will enthrone satanic activities, display
nudity, molest our under aged girls, and make them
win on bottom power rather than on real beauty and
brains. Can anyone forget the Anambra State born
Chidinma Okeke saga in a hurry?
What a wasted generation! What a time! How do we
raise, nurture and produce the next Chike Obis,
Chinua Achebes, Wole Soyinkas, Cyril stover, Apostle
olatunde Adekunle, and yes, P.O.C. Akorefeshuh?
What foundation are we laying for coming
generations? What message of hope and legacy are
we leaving behind? What epistle are we sending to
the future to testify to it that the past made some
level of contributions. Is Immorality the legacy we
really want to hand down to the next generation?
Are we not losing our minds?
Let all people of goodwill come together and raise
alarm against this dirty programme. Let us all with
one voice and in unison say, "We've had enough of
this nonsense." Let us blow the trumpet in Zion and
declare war on these encouragers of evil tendencies
and promoters of these demonic programmes
targeted at our highly impressionable youths. We
should see that this programme is replaced with a
more intelligent and educative programme.
Nigeria is broke morally and financially, yet the
sponsors are wasting millions of Naira on a highly
immoral programme. Please what is the lesson that
one can learn from this Big Brother show? What can
our YOUTHS pick from it? I know this kind of write up
doesn't get many shares. But if we keep quiet, then
we are silent conspirators.
So share. Share until a thought process is provoked in
the heart of everyone and we can stand up to say,
Enough of this nonsense."```
*SAY NO TO IMMORALITY* God help us.
““My wife is here today
Celebrities[A Must Read] See Five Evidences That Proves Davido Bought All His Songs by mrkunlex(op): 8:19am On Feb 06, 2018
Right from time immemorial, most artiste are
always in charge of their song creation. From the
recording of lyrics to the final input, the artiste is
the executive producer of his work.
However, we’ve witnessed artistes selling songs or
co-writing songs for each other.
Beyonce bought the
smash hit “Irreplaceable” from Neyo, Rihanna got
“Diamond” from Sia and the list is endless.
However, back here in Nigeria, the case is different.
Most artistes write their songs as these artistes know
what it takes after being bred and educated during
their early years. But there are artistes who have to
rely entirely on the output of their ghostwriters and
songwriters for them to make any meaningful music.
Example of such is Davido (No Offence).
Let’s see scenarios where Davido has had to rely on
his ghostwriters.
1. AYE
Davido‘s 2014 hit was written by Runtown. Even
though Runtown had denied it, everything about the
song speaks Runtown.
From the lyrics to the producer which was Tspize,
Runtown’s favorite producer, the sing was 100%
Runtown hands down.
2. FALL & FIA
For those who don’t know, one of Davido‘s new acts,
Peruzzi wrote Fia and Fall.
The reports that went round was that Peruzzi was
Davido’s Ghostwriter and Davido decided to make
him an integral part of his record label and also give
him recognition by signing him to the record label.
3. PERE
We all know the story behind this song. Apparently,
while
Dammy Krane was still languishing behind bars
in the US, Davido bought the song “Pere” from
Dammy Krane.
Dammy Krane had earlier recorded the song with
Producer HOD and it was one of those songs in
Dammy Krane’s archives but after signing on to DMW
and also in a bid to pledge loyalty and stay relevant,
he sold the song to Davido.
The song received a mash-up from DJ Mustard and
had HOD ranting on Twitter about his loss.
4. GBAGBE OSHI
Originally sang by General Pype and produced by
Shizzi, Davido probably heard the song and fell in
love with it. He reached out to
Pype and offered to
pay over a million Naira for the song.
Pype whose career has suffer a bit of recession
decided to sell the song to Davido. Davido recorded
the entire thing with his frog voice and made it the
lead single of his 2016 EP, Son of Mercy.
Few weeks after Davido dropped the song, General
Pype decided to release the original version thereby
putting Davido into another mess.
5. LIKE DAT
Davido‘s last hit for 2017 “Like Dat” was one of those
songs that was slept on in 2017. Most amazing fact is
it was written by
Tenie TheEntertainer.
Days before it was released, Teniola tweeted that
The song was written by her and gave Davido a
shout-out for giving her a chance.
6. IF
While many won’t believe this, If was written by
Tekno. Produced by Tekno, evidence gives that
Tekno Miles wrote IF due to the simplicity of how the
song is sung/written.
Tekno has similar songs such as Pana and Diana that
contain the simple style as If.
The End!!
With all this pointed out, one really need to ask
Can Davido Ever Write Any Of His Songs By
Himself?
Drop your comments.
Collaborating With Wizkid, M.I & Bez Shot Me
Into Limelight – Singer, Praiz
X3M Music singer, Praiz, was recently interviewed
by Olushola Ricketts and he spoke on his music
career, women and the experience that saw him
end up in the police net. He said his collaboration
with
Wizkid, M.I and Bez put him in the limelight.
People accepted me right from the days of Project
Fame. My music career has been a process and I
will never despise my days of little beginning. The
first song that put me in the limelight was Stupid
Song with Bez. Also, people began to notice me
after I did songs with M.I and Wizkid. Apart from
my original songs, the collaborations I did in the
past also contributed to my growth in the industry.”
Praiz also spoke on the growth of his music career.
He said,
“I love my growth. I prefer to have 1,000 fans who
are loyal to me than a million fans who are not
loyal. When you talk about people who broke into
the industry from reality shows, I am one of them,
even though I didn’t win. As a matter of fact,
people always think I won Project Fame. I believe
you need to understand your fans. However, that
doesn’t mean you should be lazy or rest on your
laurels. While you are still pushing to be a better
person, one needs to be grateful to God. I owe
everything I have achieved to God, but most
people don’t know that I work a lot. I tell people
that I have lost four years of sleep in my life. I go
to bed at 4am daily. However, there are a lot of
people who work as hard as I do, yet they don’t
get results. For me, it has been God, patience, focus
and hard work. I know where I want to be and I
am working towards it. I am a talented boy who is
enjoying the favour of God. Once God sees your
heart and how much you are passionate about
what you do, He blesses you.”
When asked why he hasn’t done a solo show like
some of his colleagues, he responded by saying,
“I like to do things differently. I have yet to do any
solo show because I am not ready to do what I
would really like to do. I have a massive plan, but
the time has not come to unleash it. For my
concert, I plan to invite an international RnB act.
Very soon, everyone will witness it. I believe
anything worth doing is worth doing well.
Generally, I had a great outing last year. I released
a couple of songs that did well internationally and
locally. I am ready to drop a five-track EP this
month, precisely on February 14. There are some
artistes that release singles every month but I am
not that type of singer. I am strategic with the
way I put out materials. I believe everyone has his
or her own technique.”
Speaking on his plans as regards marriage, Praiz
said,
“I am certain that I will get married but I don’t
know how soon it will happen. You don’t need to
rush into marriage because it is an institution you
are not expected to abandon once you are in it.
Though people get married to the wrong people,
marriage is a beautiful thing. However, when a
marriage turns violent, I always advise people to
walk away because staying alive is important. I
am taking my time as I don’t want to rush in and
rush out.”
A Nigerian fashion designer, Epaz, has
revealed how her tribal marks almost drove
her to committing suicide.
According to her, she was bullied during her
school days and also had her first boyfriend
who impregnated her at 21, all because she
felt she was ugly.
Read her inspiring post below…
“Gone are these things; there had been cases
where I wanted to commit suicide due to
inhibition in educational pursuits due to my
tribal marks.
When many people say they find my tribal
marks repulsive. Even in my school days ,
they called me all sorts of names because of
the severe tribal marks my dad put on my
face.
I had my first boyfriend at age 21. (My baby
father) all because I considered myself to be
the ugliest girl in the world. Chai !!! One of the
greatest thing that has happened to me was
getting educated and my ability to
communicate in fluent English language
otherwise it would have been disastrous for
me, so disastrous!!! Some people when they
see me they assumed I am uneducated and
start saying they pity me, I shake my head
sadly then.
Some years ago all I felt was resentment
towards my parents for giving my siblings and
I such scars in the first place.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve been
embarrassed by them.
Christianity Etc7 Traits Of False Teachers by mrkunlex(op): 5:54am On Feb 04, 2018
“There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.” (2 Peter 2:1)
There are no “ifs, ands, or buts” in Peter’s words. It’s a clear and definite statement. There were false prophets among the people (of Israel in the Old Testament). That’s a matter of history. False prophets were a constant problem in the Old Testament, and those who falsely claimed to be prophets of God were to be stoned. The people rarely had the will to deal with them, so they multiplied, causing disaster to the spiritual life of God’s people.
In the same way Peter says, “There will be false teachers among you.” Notice the words “among you.” Peter is writing to the church and says, “There will be false prophets among you.” So he is not talking about New Age people on television. He is talking about people in the local church, members of a local congregation.
There is no such thing as a pure church this side of heaven. You will never find it. The wheat and the tares grow together. Warren Wiersbe writes:
Satan is the counterfeiter. . . . He has a false gospel (Galatians 1:6-9), preached by false ministers (2 Corinthians 11:13-12), producing false Christians (2 Corinthians 11:26). . . . Satan plants his counterfeits wherever God plants true believers (Matthew 13:38).
Authentic or Counterfeit?
How would you recognize counterfeit Christianity?
In 2 Peter 1 we read about genuine believers. And in 2 Peter 2 we read about counterfeit believers. If you put these chapters side by side you will see the difference between authentic and counterfeit believers.
1. Different Source—Where does the message come from?
Peter says, “We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1:16). And then he says the false teachers exploit you “with stories they have made up” (2:3). So the true teacher sources what he says from the Bible. The false teacher relies on his own creativity. He makes up his own message.
2. Different Message—What is the substance of the message?
For the true teacher, Jesus Christ is central. “We have everything we need for life and godliness in Him” (1:3). For the false teacher, Jesus is at the margins: “They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them” (2:1).
Notice the word secretly. It’s rare for someone in church to openly deny Jesus. Movement away from the centrality of Christ is subtle. The false teacher will speak about how other people can help change your life, but if you listen carefully to what he is saying, you will see that Jesus Christ is not essential to his message.
3. Different Position—In what position will the message leave you?
The true Christian “escapes the corruption in the world caused by evil desires” (1:4). Listen to how Peter describes the counterfeit Christian: “They promise . . . freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity, for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him” (2:19). The true believer is escaping corruption, while the counterfeit believer is mastered by it.
4. Different Character—What kind of people does the message produce?
The true believer pursues goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brother kindness, and love (1:5). The counterfeit Christian is marked by arrogance and slander (2:10). They are “experts in greed” and “their eyes are full of adultery” (2:14). They also “despise authority” (2:10). This is a general characteristic of a counterfeit believer.
5. Different Appeal—Why should you listen to the message?
The true teacher appeals to Scripture. “We have the word of the prophets made more certain and you will do well to pay attention to it” (1:19). God has spoken, and the true teacher appeals to his Word. The false teacher makes a rather different appeal: “By appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error” (2:18). So the true teacher asks, “What has God said in his Word?” The false teacher asks, “What do people want to hear? What will appeal to their flesh?”
6. Different Fruit—What result does the message have in people’s lives?
The true believer is effective and productive in his or her knowledge of Jesus Christ (1:cool. The counterfeit is “like a spring without water” (2:17). This is an extraordinary picture! They promise much but produce little.
7. Different End—Where does the message ultimately lead you?
Here we find the most disturbing contrast of all. The true believer will receive “a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1:11). The false believer will experience “swift destruction” (2:1). “Their condemnation has long been hanging over them and their destruction has not been sleeping” (2:3).
Jesus tells us that there will be many who have been involved in ministry in his name, to whom he will say, “Depart from me; I never knew you” (Matthew 7:21). Who are these people? Surely Peter is describing them in this passage.
Don’t Be Naïve
We must not be ignorant: “There will be false teachers among you” (2:1). So how do we apply this warning?
First, Peter’s plain statement reminds us that the church needs to be protected. Among the many wonderful people who come to through the doors of the church each year, some would do more harm than good.
They may seem the nicest of people, but they do not believe in the authority of the Bible or the exclusivity of salvation in Christ. We welcome such people, because they need Christ as much as we do, but we must not allow them to have influence in the church.
Second, skeptics will always be able to point to hypocrisy and inconsistency in the church. They’ve always done it, and they always will. One of the strangest reasons for not following Christ goes like this: “I’ve seen people in the church who are hypocrites.” So you will not follow Christ because some people who claim to do so are hypocrites?
The existence of the counterfeit is never a good reason for rejecting the genuine. Peter essentially tells us, “Of course there are counterfeit Christians. Of course there are teachers who do the church more harm than good. What else would you expect in this fallen world? Grow up! Don’t be naïve! Don’t miss what’s real simply because you have seen the counterfeit.”
Point to 2 Peter 2:1 the next time you meet someone hiding behind this excuse.
