Religion shouldn't make you look like a slave to a man
We are all equal!!

PoliticsRetrieve Arms From Boko Haram, Herdsmen, Vigilance Groups Tell IGP by mrkunlex(op): 6:41am On Mar 10, 2018
Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt
Vigilance groups in Rivers State have called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to retrieve all arms used by Boko Haram members and herdsmen to terrorise and kill innocent Nigerians.
The vigilance groups were reacting to an order from the State Police Command that they (vigilance groups) should surrender all the weapons in their possession within 21 days or risk arrest and prosecution.
But the vigilance groups maintained that rather than ask them to surrender their arms, the police IGP should work towards retrieving arms from Boko Haram members and herdsmen.
Speaking on behalf of the vigilance groups, the leader of Diobu Vigilante Group, Mr. Victor Ohaji, stated that some communities facing cult-related issues would be adversely affected due to the IGP’s directive.
Describing the directive as anti-security, Ohaji pointed out that the vigilance groups were assisting the police and other security agencies to fight insecurity within the communities.
“It is not good for the vigilance groups to submit arms when we know that criminals in the state are armed with sophisticated weapons. It will affect security because we cannot go after criminal who have guns with sticks.
“They that are giving this order have guns and security. It (surrendering of guns) will affect common people who do not have money to provide security for themselves. They should also retrieve arms from herdsmen, Boko Haram and other criminal elements for us to have a crime-free nation.”
State Police Command had earlier in a statement ordered that vigilance groups in the state should submit their weapons within 21 days.
The statement signed by the State PPRO, Nnamdi Omoni, read, “Any person or group of persons bearing prohibited firearm or any locally fabricated firearm, pump action, double/single-barrelled guns or any modified weapon fashioned to kill or cause harm, panic or breach of the peace or threat to law and order in the state, should as a matter of urgency surrender same to the Task Force set up by the Commissioner of Police within the next 21days, which started running from 22nd February, 2018.
“Members of the public, individuals or groups such as vigilantes, neighbourhood watch group, watch night men, hunters or any group or association under any capacity or guise other than statutory security agencies recognised and gazetted by the Federal Government of Nigeria to bear firearms of specified category, who are currently possessing and having prohibited/illegal firearm such as pump action and the likes for whatever purpose, are hereby warned to surrender same to the Task Force before the expiration of the 21 days notice.
“This operation among others is aimed at the full enforcement of the Firearms Act, mopping up and recovery of all prohibited firearms and illegally acquired weapons and to enable the Police to deal decisively with herders and farmers clashes, kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, militancy and terrorism.
“Anybody found with prohibited firearms after the expiration of the 21 days notice will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted. Members of the public who notice anyone bearing, possessing or in custody of any of the above mentioned prohibited firearms in violation of the Firearms Act in any part of the state are requested to promptly report such to the Head of the Task Force Assistant Commissioner of Police

PoliticsEx Pres. Obasanjo Says Provision Of Jobs Is Solution To Terrorism, Other Crimes by mrkunlex(op): 5:01pm On Mar 09, 2018
Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said provision of jobs remains the best solution for curtailing terrorism and other crimes in the North-Eastern part of the country.
Speaking in Maiduguri at the Zero Hunger Program, the former President said most young people in the state become terrorists and kidnappers because they are jobless and unemployed.
He claimed that for every 26 youths in the region, 25 are either jobless or belong to an insurgent group.
The former President said the Zero Hunger Program initiative would help tackle the problem of unemployment and lead to increase output of farm produce in the country.
He added that the country has so many policies that has not contributed to the development of agriculture in the country.
He said, “As a matter of fact, we are trying our best to help the sector to grow regardless of lack of funds and the ability to ensure that the agro sector is resuscitated. This is what we are into, making sure that hunger is put at bay especially in the northeastern corner of Nigeria.
“Out of the seventeen sustainable development goals, set by the United Nations, zero hunger has a validation for fourteen of them which is why it cannot be ignored by any African.”
“Let me assure you that we are not trying to bring more policies beyond what exists now, we have many of these policies that can take us to where we must be,” the former president said.
Obasanjo urged more individuals and stakeholders to invest in food production as a way of creating more employment opportunity and reduction of insurgency in the country.

CelebritiesJacobs May: Dancer Who Confronted Olamide In Germany Over 20 Minutes Performance by mrkunlex(op): 1:57pm On Mar 09, 2018
Jacob May, whose video about her altercation with Nigerian hip hop artiste Olamide went viral last week, has offered an explanation for the much reported incident.
She said all she wanted when she challenged Jacobs was an apology for his rather short performance when fans had expected
“something better” during a show in Germany.
Our correspondent, TOPE OMOGBOLAGUN, caught up with May, who discussed at length the encounter…

What do you do?

My name is Jacobs May. I am a Germany-based Nigerian entertainer. I am a dancer and I own a dancing school which focuses on African contemporary dance. As a Nigerian in the Diaspora, I try to use my dance to promote the Nigerian heritage.

What led to the fight in the video?

I really did not want to talk further about the Olamide issue, but I saw a video on YouTube and this made me realise some Nigerians still have no clue or an in-depth understanding of what exactly happened in the video.
The organisers approached me, six weeks to the show, asking me to invest €6,000 in the show as Olamide will be in Germany to perform. I told them the notification was too short for me to invest that kind of money.
Three weeks to the show, they contacted me again, begging me to use my photograph to promote the show, which I accepted to do. I also posted the photo on my Facebook and Instagram pages and even told my followers and other people to get their own tickets.

So, were you at the event?

Yes, I was at the event. I bought a VIP ticket for €100, though I was not supposed to pay, considering the fact that I was used to advertise the show, but I did it to support them.

What happened between you and Olamide at the event?

Olamide and I didn’t have any confrontation at the show, but his attitude was so annoying that I had to confront him after the show. It wasn’t an Olamide show but he was the main artiste. Some other Nigerian artistes also featured in the show.

What did he do at the show?

I was told that Olamide arrived at the hotel where I also lodged on Saturday and he was scheduled to perform at 1:00am on Sunday. But to my amazement, Olamide came up at 3:30am, having kept people waiting for two hours.
By the time he came on stage, fans were furious.People were already drunk and they started flinging objects onto the stage. I was seated on the VIP section, which was mounted on the stage. I was part of the people who got hit by a bottle and I almost collapsed on stage. People, including me, got so angry after Olamide performed for only 20 minutes. People paid so much to watch your performance and you put up a shabby performance and for just 20 minutes.

So, what happened after the show?

Like I mentioned earlier, I lodged in the same hotel as Olamide. I got to know when he arrived on Saturday because I have been in the hotel since Friday.
Since we were in the same hotel, I walked up to him in the lobby at daybreak to explain what had happened to me as a result of him coming late on stage. I approached him as a civil person and told him what had happened to me. I also told him that it was unfair that he flew seven hours only for a 20-minute show. I confronted him with the fact that it was disrespectful of him to have come late and not to apologise to his fans and to also throw a 20-minute performance for fans that have waited over two hours for him.
I was dazed when he stood up and walked out on me.

What happened thereafter?

I was full of rage when he showed no concern, compassion or remorse. That was when I brought out my phone to record the whole incident. Perhaps if he was polite I would have accepted his apology and walked quietly to my room; but his attitude led to the fiasco.
Just like it is often said that pride goes before a fall, there was no way I would tolerate such an attitude.

Did you contact the organisers of the show?

Yes, I did.

What was their reaction to the video?

They did a video disclaiming my accusations and saying it was a wrong move.

What do you intend doing to them?

I am suing them. I will make sure no show is done here again if the security of the people cannot be guaranteed.
Jacobs May during one of her performances in
Germany

Did Olamide contact you after the video went viral?

No. In fact, I believe there is no need for that. His arrogance would not even let him do such.

The manager said you were only trying to get Olamide’s attention. Is it true?

That is not true, but I’m not surprised because I wouldn’t have expected less; that is so typical of
Nigerians. I had no clue he was staying at the hotel before I lodged there.

Of course, what do you expect his manager to say?

Sure, they will always make it sound bad for me, but I care less. I just said things the way they are and I
am sure next time he wouldn’t try such and other artistes will also learn from this.

EducationRe: Science, Maths Teaching In Indigenous Languages To Begin Soon –FG by mrkunlex(op): 1:37pm On Mar 09, 2018
SIRTee15:
What u wrote up there validate the reason why people should be trained in the language they are familiar and comfortable with....
Very few Nigerians can fully articulate and express their thoughts in english without interjection of local language....
And that's because they don't fully think in english....
A child is best trained in a language he/she thinks....
A child's thought process cannot be in one language and yet u are teaching the child in another language....
It makes understanding and assimilation difficult....
And this is the main reason Nigerians find it difficult to connect with their environment and exploit its potential....
I just don't understand the ignorance being displayed on this thread....
My father didn't learn mathematics in school but ISIRO...
yes, he was taught maths in Yoruba in primary school....
Yet he came out with 2.1 in maths and chemistry from U.I.....
His basic understanding of maths is exemplary....
And he's among few who can fully express himself in both Yoruba and english independent of each other....
Forget all the science terminologies....
Teach maths and basic science in local language and watch how the knowledge base among students expand and students becomes more innovative, creative and curious by default.....
Every year WAEC/NECO result has been woeful despite teaching in english language....
So what's the big deal about the language......
I'll come back to advocate why MATHS MOST ESPECIALLY should be taught in LOCAL LANGUAGE....
Yeah it is true.in osun state no private schools teaching their students yoruba language again.what marvel me is that they flogged there student whenever they hear them speaking yoruba or fine them.

Peter Dada, Akure
The Federal Government has said that the teaching of science subjects and mathematics in indigenous languages in primary and secondary schools across the country would commence soon.
Director-General of the National Centre for Technology Management, Prof. Okechukwu Ukwuoma, stated this during a retreat organised for researchers in Akure, capital of Ondo State.
Ukwuoma, who is a member of a committee set up to supervise the project, also disclosed that experts were contracted to translate science and mathematics terminologies to the various indigenous languages spoken in the country.
He said, “Last year, the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of Education inaugurated a committee to teach science and mathematics in indigenous languages. The major issue in that regard is the translation of terminologies to the languages for which we have consulted experts in different languages in the country.
The don, who commended the Federal government on the idea, expressed optimism in the success of the project. He also noted that many textbooks had already been translated to some Nigerian languages through the efforts of the committee.
The NACETEM boss stressed the need for researchers to contribute toward the development of science and technology in the country. He lamented the lack of good research works in the country, blaming it on the lust for quick and easy money amongst the people.
“All over the world everything about science and technology is always hard to sell because you need to convince people. Nigerians are good researchers, but they lack something.
“Many businessmen who are supposed ensure the commercialisation of research inventions prefer to buy fake ones outside the country and come back to make quick money,” he said.
However, Ukwuoma disclosed that the Federal Government had established a National Research and Innovation Fund, which would be accessed by entrepreneurs or innovators interested in developing science and technology inventions
The don said, “Information is what people need.
When people lack information, they find it very difficult to find solution to some problems. So we need really to get some information about what is going on.”

Yoruba
Unarguably one of the most educated tribes in
Nigeria and even thought to be the most learned by
some people. The Yorubas are indeed educated and
you will agree with me that they deserve a position
among the top 3.
It had also been said that this ethnic group have the
highest number of professors. Aside this, many of the
top management position in companies are been
headed by the Yorubas.
One would argue that this was as a result of them
been the first to be open to western education. Well,
whatever may be the case, the Yorubas are one of
the most educated tribes in Nigeria.
Igbo
This tribe is synonymous with one thing- Business!
Business is their thing and they are found in all the
crannies of the country.
It had been said that any place you come and can’t
find an Igbo man then relocate, nothing good is there.
However, aside business, this people also have a
flare for education and are one of the most educated
tribes in the country.

Hausa… what? Did I hear you scream? What on earth

you need to have a rethink as this tribe is educated
just like any other tribe in the country.
However, because of their numbers, high popularion
and culture, a lot of them are left out but for the ones

sitter in academic issue. I don’t want to start
mentioning names just as I purposely didn’t mention
in the ones above but I tell you this,
The Hausa speaking tribe is one of the most educated
in the country.
Edo
Talking of civilization, the Edo tribe is one of the most
civilized tribes in the country due to the high rate of
their illegal migration to overseas and other reasons.
However, someone can claim to be civilized but not
educated. The Edo people are civilized and educated
and can be said to be one of the most educated
people in the country.
Urhobo
This is the first tribe from the Niger Delta region that
made it to the list. You can’t away education from
this people.
This tribe has a domineering nature in Delta state and
this even includes in the area of education. Go there
and see each family name their own professional.
Itsekiri
The Itsekiri people are also from the Niger Delta
Region just like the Urhobos. This tribe is also one of
the most educated in the country.

his children will!

Calabar
While we do not see the Calabar people as educated,
they actually are! Forget their funny intonation and
how Nollywood portray them, they are educated.
Isoko
This is a minority tribe from the Niger Delta region
that may not be well known but are actually
educated and made it to our list of top 10 most

Ibibio
This tribe also hail from the Niger Delta region and
are also educated.

“we will want them to be aware that the time they mandated us to go and download the browser to use for the examination was very short.
“It was less than 24 hours to the mock exam on Sunday morning. There are many people that had to go to church on that day. Because we had to build this country, we obeyed and went to the centre, we believe that in that area, JAMB should be able to improve and give us reasonable time to get it done.”
Ogedengbe stated that for that kind of exercise, the board should have considered the de-merits as well.
“They ought to co-opt two of our own technical teams into their own so that while they are trying to look at the advantages, they are also looking at the disadvantages to us. The JAMB browser didn’t function at our centre.
“Last year, after the examination, we believed that we had done our own part very well but JAMB authority came up to say that it was marred by malpractices but the observers adjudged the exam to be malpractice free, so we had to organise the enlightenment programme among ourselves.
“We are convinced because the people here are men of integrity who want to contribute their quota to the education development of the country. As operators of CBT, we need to be up and doing through professional ethics of the exam and in the area of technicalities to make it corruption free in Nigeria.”
Candidates have already begun receiving their centres online and via email .

Science/Technology10 Ancient Chinese Inventions That You Never Thought Were Chinese by mrkunlex(op): 7:57am On Mar 07, 2018
Well, check out this post to discover 10
Chinese inventions we bet you never thought
You may know that lots of inventions that
have changed the world were created during the Chinese dynasties. Paper, gunpowder and
even the printing block are 2 of the 四大发明 sì the 4 great Chinese inventions. But the Chinese didn’t stop at these amazing inventions! They also created a lot more things
without which your life wouldn’t be the same and you probably don’t even know it! So we put together for you a list of 10 surprising Chinese inventions you didn’t know were Chinese, ranked from the least to the most surprising.
Ready to see what was invented in China?
Prepare to be amazed!
#1 The most fascinating of all the Chinese inventions: the Compass
The first item on our list of ancient Chinese
inventions is the compass. It’s one of the
四大发明
sì the 4 great Chinese inventions, but people
tend to forget about it.
Long before European navigators roamed the
seas, the Chinese invented the compass How
was this navigational instrument invented? The
compass was created around the Qin Dynasty
era (255 BC – 206 BC), but not for the reasons
you’d expect. Long before it was used for
navigation, the compass was actually used by
fortune tellers on their boards to make
predictions. Interesting use of the compass,
don’t you think? The first compasses were
made of
a spoon-shaped lodestone, a natural
magnetic stone that naturally indicates the
South. Later on, the Chinese improved on their
first compass to create the magnetic needle
compass during the 8th century AD, used on
water.
The next Chinese invention on our list has
changed the world forever and still very much
used nowadays. In fact, it’s essential to buy
new things. Can you guess what it is?
#2 Paper money, the
Chinese creation that
changed the world
Paper money! The first banknotes were
introduced under the Tang dynasty (618 – 907).
The invention of paper money stems from the
invention of the printing block, which made
possible the printing of many banknotes. At
that time, carrying coins began to be too
heavy and merchants thus decided to create
banknotes as a means of currency instead. The
banknotes were meant to record how much
money the people had in their pockets. Smart,
isn’t it?
Nowadays, we use paper money for
everything almost everywhere around the
world. Even though credit card use now tends
to surpass the use of paper money, banknotes
are still rocking! Let’s jump to the third Chinese
creation that is going to leave you voiceless!

#3 The smart Chinese
invention: the
mechanical clock
What time is it? This is maybe one of most
frequently asked questions each day! Your
wristwatch — or your cellphone — is certainly
one of your best friends when it comes to
telling time. This wouldn’t be possible without
the invention of the first mechanical clock by
the Chinese. Under the Song dynasty (916 –
1279), 苏颂 Su Song, a well-known official, built
a
huge clock tower that could tell the time of
the day, the day of the month, the phase of
the moon and the position of a few stars and
planets. Amazing, don’t you think?! How did he
do that? Well, he added a chain-driven
mechanism to a water-powered clock, and
magic happened!
Let’s explore a little bit further the mechanical
skills of the Chinese. The next Chinese
invention will most likely make you go “wow”,
plus it’s all about dragons.
#4 The earthquake
detector: the most
brilliant Chinese
invention
In China, earthquakes are very frequent.
When you’re not prepared for them, they can
cause severe damage. Under the Han dynasty
(206 BC – 220 AD), some Chinese scientists
decided to experiment with ways to predict
earthquakes. Under the Han dynasty (206 BC –
220 AD), 張衡 Zhang Heng, a famous Chinese
inventor and scientist, invented the first
seismograph that could detect the movement
of an earthquake. Besides being a clever
Chinese invention,
the earthquake detector is
also super cool-looking. It’s a huge urn adorned
with 8 dragons, each holding a copper a ball.
These 8 dragons represented 8 directions: east,
south, west, north, southeast, northeast,
southwest, and northwest. These dragons
faced 8 frogs on a plate below the urn. Each
time a seism was about to happen, the dragon
that was in the direction of the earthquake
would spit its copper ball inside the frog’s
mouth. Dragons spitting copper balls? I told
you it was a cool invention!
OK, now you know that the Chinese were
pretty good at creating mechanical engines.
But let’s explore the sports in China! Everyone
knows China’s popular sport: ping pong, but
did you know they invented another popular
sport?
#5 The Chinese
invention you’d never
guessed was Chinese:
Football
Were you dying to know why earlier I said
that soccer was not invented in England, but in
China? Under the Han dynasty (206 BC – 220
AD), people started to play a game called
Cuju. It consisted of two teams kicking a ball
around to score goals. Using hands was
forbidden. Sounds familiar? The main
difference was that the number of players
was flexible and teams were both composed
of men and women.
As for England, they did not invent the football
game but they brought a lot to modern soccer.
According to the FIFA England organized the
contemporary games in 1863.
Technology, sports… Chinese inventions
certainly are everywhere! What about in your
personal daily life? Do you think ancient
Chinese inventions are at play there? The
answer is yes. Let me tell you about the most
surprising creations the Chinese invented and
how these became essential when eating.
#6 The culinary Chinese
creation you didn’t
suspect: the Restaurant
Menu
Once again the Song dynasty has struck! I’d
bet you didn’t know about this one! During the
Song era, a premodern economic revolution
occurred in China and there was a significant
increase in business and trade with the outside
world. Lots of foreign businessmen and
travelers came to China during that time, but
they did not always speak Chinese. In order to
help them, the first ever menus were created
in
Chinese restaurants.
Speaking of restaurants, its origins in the world
remain shrouded in mystery. Some claim that
France created the first restaurants ever in
Paris, but, before the Mongol invasion even
happened, there were already restaurants in
China. The competition is still on, and I suggest
read this amazing post by Nicholas Kiefer on
the creation of the restaurant to learn more.
Next time you enter a restaurant and are
given a restaurant menu to order food,
remember that the Chinese invented them!
#7 The one you were
wrong about: the Fork
I can feel your surprise from here! We all
know that the Chinese use chopsticks to eat,
but don’t be mistaken, they also invented the
forks! The oldest known
traces of forks were
found in the Qijia ethnic group (2400 BC -1900
BC) but also under the Xia dynasty (2100 BC –
1600 BC). Did you know forks were so old? At
a later period, forks were exported to Europe
thanks to the Silk Road. As for the Chinese, it
is said they chose to replace forks and knives
with chopsticks. Isn’t that unexpected?
Forks were invented by the Chinese, bet you
didn’t see that coming, huh?! Let’s move on to
another product you can (sometimes) find on
your table and that is said to have been
created by the Chinese. Cheers!
#8 The Chinese
invention that will make
you feel dizzy: Alcohol
Yi Di, the wife of a Xia dynasty’s king, 大禹 dà
yǔ Yu the Great (around 2000 BC), is said to
have created the first ever alcohol beverage
and gave it to her husband. It is said to have
tasted like beer. The Shang dynasty (1600 BC –
1066 BC) is also said to have used alcohol
during sacrifices.
There are lots of legends around the creation
of alcohol, but one thing’s sure, it was
definitely made in China! Just like the next
Chinese inventions that are going to make you
rethink your knowledge of China.
#9 The ancestor of your
current toothbrush
Up next on our list of ancient Chinese
inventions you didn’t know about, the
toothbrush! That’s right, during the Tang
dynasty (618 – 907 AD),
the first toothbrush
was invented! It was mostly made of pig hairs
attached to a handle made of bamboo or
bones. Amazing, huh? The modern toothbrush
has evolved quite a lot since then, and no one
uses pig hairs to brush their teeth anymore, at
least I hope not!
The next and last invention coming up is
undoubtedly the one that had me saying “no
way, they invented that too?!”. The Chinese
didn’t use to kid with hygiene! Ready to find
out what the last invention is?
#10 One of the ancient
Chinese inventions you
don’t want to live
without: Toilet paper
Chinese inventions can be very surprising
sometimes! Have you ever thought about how
toilet paper came into existence? Well, it all
started around the year 851, during the Tang
dynasty, when the Chinese
invented toilet
paper. But it’s during the Ming dynasty (1368 –
1644) that the use of toilet paper rose! At the
time, toilet paper was actually made of huge
sheets of soft fabric, which only the Emperors
and their family could use. Then the use of
toilet paper spread to the people and to
Europe via the good old Silk Road!
Final words
Chinese inventions have brought a lot to the
modern world as we know it today. Each
object has a story and China had a role to
play in many of those stories. Who would
have guessed that toilet paper, toothbrushes,
football or mechanical clocks were Chinese
inventions? The well-known Chinese dynasties
have left a lot to the modern era. If you want
to know more about these amazing families,

Chinese dynasties.
Which Chinese invention surprised you the
most? Do you know other things the Chinese
have invented?
