PoliticsBandits Rule, Farmers Flee: The Collapse Of Northern Nigeria’s Economy by Mrmicro(op): 6:37am On May 19, 2024
For over a decade, Northern Nigeria has faced severe insecurity, particularly in North Western states. Banditry, kidnapping, and violence have escalated, driving away business owners and leaving farmers unable to cultivate their lands. Despite knowing the culprits and their hideouts, the authorities and Northern elites remain silent and inactive. This post highlights the urgent need for collective action to restore peace and prevent the region’s complete collapse.

One of the Genesis of Insecurity in the Region

More than twelve years ago, the insecurity in North Western Nigeria began with a few armed robbers wielding locally made guns, cutlasses, and sticks. These criminals would raid villages, killing and robbing residents of their valuables.

The response from those in authority was either negligible or nonexistent. Even when culprits were arrested, they were often released within a few days. This lack of decisive action from leaders and influential figures allowed the situation to escalate.

The Rise of Vigilantes
In response to the growing threat, local vigilante groups formed. Villagers organized these groups to... Continue https://microblog.com.ng/bandits-rule-farmers-flee-the-collapse-of-northern-nigerias-economy/

Jobs/VacanciesApply Now-the FGN Skill-up Artisans (SUPA) Initiative by Mrmicro(op): 6:01am On May 03, 2024
Nigeria, with a population exceeding 220 million people, faces the persistent challenge of unemployment, particularly among its youth. Projections indicated a labor force increase to over 67 million in 2022, necessitating urgent measures to provide employment opportunities as more citizens enter the job market. In response to this pressing issue, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is dedicated to creating gainful employment for the nation’s youth.

Central to President Tinubu’s vision for economic development and poverty alleviation is the empowerment of artisans and the promotion of industrial growth through a skilled workforce.

While numerous employment initiatives have historically focused on the white-collar sector, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, is spearheading a campaign targeting the blue-collar industry. This initiative aims to ensure inclusivity in the Federal Government’s job creation efforts.

The Skill-UP Artisans (SUPA) program emerges as a very strong strategy in this endeavor. With a goal to impact 10 million artisans over a two-year period, SUPA represents a joint initiative between the Federal Government and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), with coordination falling under the latter’s jurisdiction.

SUPA aligns with evolving global employment patterns influenced by technological advancements. The traditional preference for white-collar positions has led to a scarcity of qualified Nigerian artisans. SUPA endeavors to reverse this trend by empowering artisans with the skills needed to thrive in modern industries. With a firm commitment to the welfare of his fellow citizens, Comr. Mafara advocates for decisive action and collaborative efforts to address the pressing security challenges facing Zamfara State. His letter serves as a rallying cry for peace, security, and prosperity in the face of adversity. The letter reads;

ZAMFARA ONCE KNOWN AS ONE OF THE MOST PEACEFUL STATE IN NIGERIA HAS NOW BECOME A HOTBED OF VIOLENCE, INNOCENT KILLINGS, BLOODSHED, BANDITRY, AND RAMPANT KIDNAPPING; A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION: AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR DAUDA LAWAL

3rd April, 2024.

His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal PhD,
The Executive Governor of Zamfara State,
Office of the Executive Governor,
Zamfara State Government House,
Gusau, Zamfara State.
Nigeria.

Dear Governor Dauda Lawal,

URGENT INTERVENTION REQUIRED TO ADDRESS INSECURITY IN ZAMFARA STATE PARTICULARLY TALATA MAFARA-GUSAU ROAD

While writing to you on the above subject, it is important to express my heartfelt appreciation for your relentless efforts in addressing the security challenges facing our dear state, particularly the alarming insecurity situation bedeviling Talata Mafara-Gusau axis, where cases of kidnapping have become rampant.

Your Excellency Sir, it is in light of the urgency and the need for immediate action, I deem it important to utilize the fastest means of communication available to reach you, who is responsible for the security apparatus of our dear state. Social media has proven to be a powerful tool in disseminating information quickly and reaching a wider audience. I believed that by leveraging on social media platforms, one can convey his/her concerns directly; bypassing the potential bureaucratic delays involved in traditional communication channels. I therefore, apologize for choosing to air my concerns through this medium.

Your Excellency Sir First and foremost, I would like to commend you for your unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Zamfara State and other developmental projects since assuming office as governor in 2023.

Your administration’s determination to tackle the security challenges head-on and provide a favorable environment for economic and social development is highly commendable.

The establishment of various security outfits and the collaboration with relevant security agencies demonstrate your commitment to the welfare of the people, and we appreciate your commitment to their safety and well-being.

The training of Community Protection Guard (Askarawa) and the establishment of Zamfara State Security Trust Fund in the state are steps worthy of commendation. These initiatives demonstrate your proactive approach to tackling the security issues faced by the people of Zamfara State.

However, despite the commendable efforts being made, I would like to draw your attention to the persisting security challenges in Zamfara State especially Talata Mafara-Gusau road.

The increasing cases of kidnapping along this route have caused significant distress among the residents and travelers who rely on this road for their daily activities.

The frequency and audacity of these criminal activities have instilled fear and anxiety, hindering economic growth, and causing immense suffering to the affected individuals and communities. Therefore, the current situation demands urgent attention and intervention from both the state and federal authorities.

I understand that you may not have direct control over Nigerian security personnel, I strongly urge you to put forth more effort in addressing the security situation in the state.

While I acknowledge that the responsibility for security ultimately lies with the federal government, I believe that as the Governor of Zamfara State, you have a crucial role to play in advocating for increased security measures and coordinating efforts to protect the lives and property of the people you serve.

EducationStudent Loans Made Simple: Study Now, Pay Back After NYSC Or Employment by Mrmicro(op): 3:23pm On Apr 06, 2024
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, President Bola Tinubu enacted a historic legislation: The Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2024. This monumental Act aims to revolutionize access to higher education and skill development for Nigerian students and youths. Let’s explore the provisions and amendments made under this new Act.

The Student Loan Act, 2023, faced numerous governance and operational challenges. These included issues regarding loan purpose, eligibility criteria, application methods, repayment terms, and loan recovery mechanisms. Recognizing these shortcomings, the government opted for a comprehensive overhaul.

The Act establishes NELFUND as a legally recognized entity with the power to enter contracts, including loan agreements. This ensures efficient loan management and facilitates loan recovery processes.

NELFUND is authorized to provide loans covering tuition, fees, charges, and upkeep for students in approved tertiary academic institutions and vocational training centers across Nigeria. This is done in order to ensure equitable access to higher education and skill acquisition opportunities.

The Act separates governance functions from operational management by establishing a board of directors and a dedicated management team. This has the view to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making within NELFUND.

Jobs/VacanciesN-power: House Of Reps Urges FGN To Resume Payment Of Stipends by Mrmicro(op): 8:58am On Mar 17, 2024
The recent developments on the Npower programme in Nigeria have sparked considerable concern and debate among stakeholders, particularly the House of Representatives.

With the suspension of Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and the subsequent removal of the National Coordinator of Npower, beneficiaries find themselves in a precarious situation.

In response to these events, the House of Representatives has taken a stand, urging the Federal Government to prioritize the payment of stipends to Npower beneficiaries and other recipients of Social Investment Programs.

Economic Impact on the Beneficiaries

The economic challenges facing Nigeria have only been made worse by the global pandemic and other internal factors. As a result, vulnerable populations, including Npower beneficiaries, are feeling the brunt of these hardships.

The House of Representatives recognizes the urgent need to provide support to these individuals to alleviate their financial burdens and ensure their well-being during these challenging times.

Call for Stability and Equitable Distribution of Wealth
In advocating for the commencement of stipend payments, the House of Representatives stated the importance of stability, development, and equitable distribution of wealth among Nigerians. The Npower program, along with other social investment initiatives, plays a vital role in achieving these objectives by empowering individuals through skills acquisition and financial support.

However, recent disruptions have threatened to undermine the progress made in this regard, necessitating swift action from the government to restore stability and ensure the effective implementation of these programs.

Legislative Oversight and Accountability

One of the key points raised by the House of Representatives is the need for proper legislative oversight and accountability in the administration of social investment programs such as Npower.

The proposed establishment of a steering committee board overseen by the Minister of Finance has raised concerns among lawmakers, as it may infringe upon the prerogatives of the legislature.

The House of Representatives asserts that any changes to the governance structure of Npower must be conducted in accordance with established legal procedures and subject to parliamentary scrutiny.

A Call to Action

The House of Representatives’ call for the commencement of stipend payments to Npower beneficiaries came just at the right time and necessary intervention in light of the current economic challenges facing Nigeria.

The Federal Government must heed this call and take immediate steps to address the concerns raised by lawmakers, so as to ensure that Npower beneficiaries receive the support they desperately need to weather the ongoing crisis.

A Review of the Earlier Launched Programs

On Thursday the 21 of December, 2023, the suspended Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Better Edu, revealed that N-Power beneficiaries have commenced receiving their overdue 9 months stipends. Technology Market*the Reason Your Next Of Kin Will Not Have Any Access To The Money In Your Bank by Mrmicro(op): 6:23pm On Apr 29, 2023
Many Nigerians think that their next of kin is the automatic beneficiary to their bank account. But the fact is, if your next of kin is not a signatory to your bank account, and you don’t have a written will to state that person’s legitimacy, then, the person will not have access to that money at all. Your bank will be left with no choice but to go through a process called a LEGAL PROBATE.

The probate period helps them determine who gets the money in your bank account. This is a very lengthy and expensive process. Even after the process is done, your family will have to forfeit or spend some very reasonable amount of the money for legal processes.

To avoid this, simply request your bank to give you something called a "POD" form. POD stands for PAYABLE ON DEATH. The name of the person you want to use as your next of kin will be written in that POD form which will give him or her full access to the money in your bank account after your demise. All the person needs to do is to bring a death certificate to get that money out.

With the POD form, your family will not have to go through all that stressful and lengthy legal process and even losing some money in the course. For more of these posts visit;

HealthOpinion; Is Covid-19 In Nigeria Truly A Hoax? - Abdussalam Abubakar Gidanbage by Mrmicro(op): 9:44am On May 05, 2020
IS COVID-19 IN NIGERIA TRULY A HOAX?

According to the Oxford English dictionary, hoax means to deceive someone by making them believe something that has been maliciously or mischievously fabricated.
Coronavirus disease 2019 which was modelled Covid-19 belongs to the family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The new coronavirus disease was first identified in 2019 in China, hence the name covid-19.

The first case of the virus was confirmed in Nigeria on the 27th February, 2020 in Lagos, Lagos state. The index case was an Italian who worked in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy. Few days after the disclosure of the outbreak in Nigeria, there were so many mixed reactions especially among the citizenry on social media platforms and even off it. Some persons argued that no any reported case of the virus exists in the country buttressing their claim that the government is just trying to fool the citizens so as to divert the public funds. Some including intellectuals were of the opinion that, government was only faking the outbreak so as to gain monetary support from international communities. Others believed that the virus cannot survive in Nigeria owing to the fact that Nigeria and indeed most west African nations have high temperature, this they felt would make life unfit for the virus.

IS COVID-19 REALLY IN NIGERIA?

This is a begging question as it has increasingly become so disappointing and even saddening that some people still hold the notion that the virus is not yet in Nigeria. I think there are so many convincing evidence to make any sane person no matter his/her school of thought to believe that the virus is in Nigeria. Few of Nigerian Governors were tested positive for the virus weeks ago although some people still believed that the governors were only playing politics. In the same vain, the British prime minister, Boris Johnson was also tested positive for the virus. In that regard, citizens and well thinking friends of the Britain (excluding Nigeria perhaps) all believed and sympathised with him. To this regard I see no reason why we can not do the same to our leaders in Nigeria. Not to forget, this is a global war with nature.

The stay at home order imposed by the government in some parts of the country is another vital point that will make any normal person to believe that the virus is in Nigeria for real. I doubt if any government no matter the level of corruption that has engulfed it, can go to the extent of closing down her economic activities, markets, schools (public and private), religious buildings, just to make it's citizens to believe a thing that doesn't exist. Of what benefits will it be to the government if it does all that? Remember we are not the only ones losing, even the government is suffering a huge economic down turn.
The death of the former Chief of Staff to the nation's President, Malam Abba Kyari as a result of complications from the virus is a final bus stop for all the doubting Thomases to wake up from their sleeps and face the bitter reality that the virus is in the country and does not respect position, ethnic or religion. It is a common enemy that everyone must join hands in fighting against it.

DID THE GOVERNMENT INTENSIONALLY IMPORT THE VIRUS FOR MONETARY GAINS?

If at all there is any disease a government can import with an intent of making money receiving handsome donations from international communities or by embezzling the public funds, covid-19 will far not be the right choice if not for anything, but for it deadly records of not sparing any group of persons. So for someone to believe that the virus was intensionally imported is as good as believing that a man can walk freely into a hungry lion's cage without him eaten by it.
Before the lockdown, Lagos state generates over N34 Billion monthly as internally generated revenue (IGR) but with the current lockdown, not just Lagos state but the whole country's economy has been battered by the effect of the deadly virus as states can now hardly get 25 percent of their normal IGR. I think with this alone, one can immediately discard the misleading and shameful rumor that the virus was imported for monetary purposes.
IS IT TRUE THAT THE VIRUS CAN'T SURVIVE IN NIGERIA'S TEMPERATURE?.
Flu surges in cold season for some reasons. First, the virus is more stable in cold, dry condition with low levels of ultraviolet light. Second, our immune systems may be weakened due to the mild vitamin D deficiency a lack of sunlight can cause.
In theory, these factors could also cause the covid-19 virus to dampen down in spring. But the problem is that the virus is still not fully understood by scientists and the evidence so far could be conflicting.
The first study to look at the effects of weather on covid-19 was carried out by reseachers in Harvard University. They looked at the effects of temperature and humidity on the virus’s transmission in China, Thailand, Singapore, Japan,South Korea and Taiwan, based on weather reports and data on covid-19 incidence between 23 January and 10 February.
They found no significant difference in transmission rates between cold and dry provinces of China and tropical ones, as well as Singapore, concluding that higher temperature and humidity “will not necessarily lead to declines in case counts”.
In recent research, U.S government released a report on the 24th of April, 2020. The report claims that, temperature above 35 degrees can curb covid-19 transmission.
The results produced by researchers from different parts of the world as to whether temperature can curb the spread of the virus are conflicting and above all W.H.O still hold on to the fact that, covid-19 is spreading in areas with hot and humid weather. So base on all these facts one can't rely on the bases that Nigeria is having higher temperature and so the virus can't survive, that's not true.

My final advice to all Nigerians is that, Covid-19 is undoubtably not a hoax and at this time(04/05/2020) 93 Nigerians have died from it's complications. Best ways to prevent the virus are; adherence to the social distancing ethics, regular washing of hands with soap, the use of hand sanitizer and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Remember, the virus doesn't move unless we move, so stay home and stay safe.
Let's share this message so as to help in breaking the chain of transmission and eventually flatten the curve.
...Abdussalam Abubakar Gidanbage.
