Why are women leaders falling? In the 20th century, particularly after the second world War, we saw women leaders rise to position of prominence in global leadership. The most prominent of them is Magereth Thatcher of United Kingdom. Since her service as UK prime minister in late 80's, we have seen many more women leaders emerge in various countries, leading their respective countries in the highest capacity. In recent times, we have John Salif as Liberia's President, Angela Merkel as German Chancellor, Dilma Rousseff as Brazil President and many others in Argentina, Chile etc. However, 2016 seems to be a year in which many female leaders have fallen. In South Korea, lawmakers on Friday impeached their female President Park Geun-hye. According to yahoo news, this is a stunning and swift fall for the country's first female leader amid protests that drew millions into the streets in united fury. After her impeachment, she seems to have admitted bringing this upon herself. "I'd like to say that I'm deeply sorry to the people because the nation has to experience this turmoil because of my negligence and lack of virtue at a time when our security and economy both face difficulties," Park said after the vote, before a closed-door meeting with her Cabinet where she and other aides reportedly broke down in tears. A month before her impeachment, Hillary Clinton lost the US Presidential election, after previously serving as Secretary of State. Many Americans accused her of several allegations including being guilty of murder, corruption etc. Similarly In August, Brazil female President, Dilma Rousseff was impeached. Rousseff was impeached on arcane charges having to do with violating budget laws. But she was swept up in a tide of revulsion against Brazil’s political class as the once-flourishing economy contracted and political parties were tarred by a massive corruption scandal. With the impeachment of South Korean President, I am forced to ask, why are female leaders falling?

The National Open University of Nigeria, which has not remitted billions of Naira to the Federal Government for several years, can so readily dole out same funds to external attorneys to battle an issue which the authorities of that institution could have resolved internally but chose to resort to waste.

This matter has been adjourned to 19th January, 2017 for ruling and it is only proper for the general public to watch closely the conduct of these desperate lawyers and their sponsors who are committed to the violation of the rights of its students and who are generously splashing public funds on external lawyers.

Okang Peter is a human rights activist. He writes from Ajah.

Barrister Gabriel Orban, along with two of his clients, then visited the chambers of Abdullahi Ibrahim & Co after court sitting on the 27th of October, 2016 to serve the processes on them. But the Applicants’ counsel and his two clients were chased out of that chamber and out of the entire premises in the most embarrassing and humiliating fashion. How on earth can the highly revered legal practice be reduced to such utter disgrace and unprofessional conduct? But their misconduct is beyond chasing people out of their office and premises. Nas Ogunsakin and his senior colleague, Abiodun Olatunji, do not respond to greetings from the Applicants’ counsel. This is the most infantile conduct that any well-trained legal practitioner ought not to be found guilty of.

On the 28 of November, 2016 this writer was again in Court and witnessed the entire proceedings. Abiodun Olatunji addressed the Court on behalf of the National Open University of Nigeria and said that they had responded to the Applicants’ counter affidavit in opposition to the University’s bid to arrest the judgement of the Court. Abiodun Olatunji and his colleagues had waited till the 22nd of November, 2016 to respond to processes re-served on them on the 27th of October, 2016, approximately one month after they had been served!

But the University lawyers were not ignorant of the fact that they already were out of time in their response which should have been issued within seven days from the day the Applicants and their counsel served them. The delay was another deliberate machination to serve the Applicants late, thereby leaving them with no time to issue a counter response before the 28 of November, 2016 when the matter was slated to come up. The Judge described this conduct as ‘outright recklessness and gross indiscipline.’

In what got the presiding judge more incensed, Abiodun Olatunji boasted that he was 22 years at the Bar and proceeded to lie before the Court that their application to ‘arrest judgement’ was not moved on the last adjourned date, being 27th October, 2016. He asserted that his colleague, Nas Ogunsakin, was on the verge of moving the application but could not do so. When the Judge countered his claim, Mr Olatunji then swiftly admitted that his colleague had previously moved the said application but that it was only ‘partially’ moved (whatever that means), and that he was ready to move it fully. The judge responded that Olatunji’s 22 years at the Bar was irrelevant to the court and that it was unethical for him to attempt to deceive the Court.

The criminal manner with which these lawyers have approached this case since inception is appalling. The highly respected legal profession, which is primarily aimed at pursuing the truth and justice, has been turned into a profession of lies, hostility, manipulation and grand deception. These lawyers, fully aware that they have nothing to canvas in their favour, worked only to prolong the matter in order to impress their clients.

The National Open University of Nigeria, which is well known for violating the fundamental rights of its students, was rightly sued by some of its students after the institution, under the sacked Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, expelled two of its students, Elias Ozikpu and Abdulrazaq O Hamzatin, in the most draconian fashion for forming a Student Union Government to protect their affected interests.

On 27th October, 2016, the very day the University lawyers had planned to boycott proceedings in order to frustrate the suit, they were eventually in court after the plot had been punctured. But they further concocted another scheme in what was clearly another unethical conduct in the Nigerian legal practice: the University lawyers openly denied receiving the Applicants’ counter to their defective application to ‘arrest the judgement’ of the court which was filed after the suit had well been reserved for judgement. The presiding judge then ordered the Applicants’ counsel, Gabriel Orban, to re-serve the processes on the University lawyers all over again because Orban did not swear to an affidavit of service as required by law.

Right inside the courtroom, and before the presiding judge, the Applicants’ counsel served the processes on one of the University counsels, Nas Ogunsakin, but the processes were bluntly rejected.

I have written previously on the conduct of the lawyers from Abdullahi Ibrahim & Co who are defending the National Open University of Nigeria in the fundamental human rights suit filed against the institution at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos in case number: FHC/L/CS/1883/2015.

THE BLAME IS ON YOU Never give anyone the opportunity to walk out and walk into your life any time they like. It's a great disservice to emotional dignity. You may endure some harsh words in time of conflict, work to rebuild and restore confidence after disagreement, but if they walk there way out of your life, don't open your heart for them so easily return when they come back. Let them work to deserve it, else you will be taken for granted and abused over and over again. If you give them the privilege, simply because of love, they will take you for granted and feel justified any time they act wrongly. They will never know your value or care if you are hurt, they will walk out on you many more times without minding how badly you feel. If they know your heart is always open to welcome them back without efforts anytime they walk out, no matter how much you love them, no matter how much sacrifices you make, they will eventually leave you more dejected than ever. This is something I have since realized. They will walk out when they like, and hope to return when they like without minding the damages being done to you. Some times, they will deliberately walk out with no cogent reason just to undermine you, hoping that you will come begging them to return. And eventually, they will leave some day and never to return again, without feeling any iota of shame. They will convince themselves that you are responsible for everything and that you are not worth their efforts. It's the way of human. Therefore, learn to guard your heart from such people. If you are not strong enough, they can destroy you psychologically and still put the blame on you.

FamilyPatience Is The Best Virtue by mrrights(op): 11:29pm On Nov 25, 2016
Patience is the best virtue anyone could ever have. We should all learn to acquire it, so we can laugh, over what made us cry. Before our very eyes, If we are patient enough, airplane that goes up will come down, seeds sowed will be reaped, trees planted will have fruits, children born will grow, heart that is broken will heal and things that make us sad will make us laugh. Trust me, patience can solve all our problems. Patience is the only sure way to reason, to meaning, to fairness and even to true success. No matter how much we are hurt by people or situation, if we remain patient with ourselves and our situation, our hurting heart shall eventually smile, over the same thing that hurts us. If we are confronted with extreme hardship, to the extent of being desperate to do what we won't ordinarily do, what we need to exercise is patience to come out victorious. We should learn not to act based on our immediate anger or discontent, let's hold our mind and body together for a more objective point of direction. No matter how hard the time is, never take action in your most frustrated moment. Be patient with yourself and your situation, your patience will eventually show you how best to go about it. Believe me, being Godly is good, but not as good as being patient. Being rich is sweet, being knowledgeable is nice, but being patient is the king of them all. The patient one owns the world.

True democracy is about numbers and everybody in the country except inec for whatever reasons knows that On do PDP people don't want Jimoh even if he qualifies legally. Inec need not use technicalities to subvert popular wishes. They will end up attracting loss of confidence from the people. Hope they have learnt from this.

My brother, it is not the duty of inec to help one party sort out its internal problems, so don't even go there at all. What concerned inec with who is popular or not? Would inec go about conducting survey to know who the party wants? If PDP is not matured enough to handle their party affairs, they should wind up rather than be disturbing other serious parties

I find it quite shocking and laughable that some social media commentators are also calling for shifting Ondo Governorship election like those shameless politicians. I must confess, this is most unfortunate and ridiculous. First of all, there are over 50 political parties in Nigeria. Each of them have a responsibility to manage their internal affairs without disturbing others with their intraparty fracas. I don't know how many of those 50 parties have candidates for Ondo election, but I know they are more than 10. So, because 1 party is having problem managing it's internal affairs to decide who flies it's ticket, you are calling on Inec to disrupt the plans and preparation of other parties in contrast to the lay down rules. Who does that? Think for a moment. If Sdp is having the kind of conflict in PDP, would you have asked Inec to shift the date for them to prepare? If AD is having similar problem as PDP, would you ask Inec to shift the date for them to prepare? You and I know the answer. So, why are you calling on Inec to do for PDP, what you will never call them to do for AD, Sdp, Accord, Labour etc? Because of one party's irresponsible behavior, you want Inec to shift election, that's not fairness. Okay. Let's pretend you are correct to advocate for shifting the election. Do you know each party must have planned their finances in line with the election date? Do you know that any attempt to shift the date would significantly jeopardize the chances of other parties or candidates that do not have extra budget for such uncalled for shifting? In case any of the participating parties do not have resources to accommodate the postponement, will you also advocate for them to be reimbursed so they could meet up the demands? Huh,I hope you see how ridiculous such advocacy for shifting the election date is. This is like a track race. As soon as the whistle to begin was blown, everyone is responsible for themselves. If one athlete fall down after whistle to start running had been blown, it has never been heard of, that others would be held back for that reason. Some people might be arguing that election has been shifted before, and I agree with them, but we must remember, those elections weren't shifted because of a party's dispute. All past elections that were shifted were for security reasons. Security of Inec materials and the electorates. Finally, let me conclude that, the infighting in PDP didn't prevent PDP from campaigning. As a matter of fact, I see it as advantage. People don't vote for individuals in election, they vote for the party. Jimoh has been campaigning as the party's candidate, Jegede has also been doing the same. At this point, let both of them continue. Jimoh should urge his supporters to vote for PDP and let Jegede do the same. That's advantage for the party and if they win, they can continue the battle in court. Abdulrazaq O Hamzat

Know the meaning of your name
If you don't know the meaning of your name, please change the name, or find out the meaning. You owe yourself that duty. If you couldn't find the meaning, you definitely need a new name. You can't come and be telling me, it's one of the 99 names of Allah or that somebody in the Bible bears the same. I didn't ask you for story, just answer, what's the meaning of your name. No story. For example, If you bear Mathias you should know the meaning. If you bear Fatima know the meaning. If you bear John Olufunke or Abdulafeez try to know the meaning please. Don't be like some people who don't know the meaning of their own names. I mean, they are olodo of their own name. Why do they even go to school if they can't know their own name? That's like waste of time and resources. Lol. On a serious note, It's not proper for you to bear a name and when someone ask, '' what's the meaning of your name'', you say you don't know or start to look at them like don di. If you don't know the meaning of your own name, what do you know? Algebra? Calculus? Different Political theories or what?... And before I forget, all of you giving your children some strange names need to park well oo. Make sure you find out the meaning before your children grow up to be asking you, '' daddy, what's the meaning of my name ''. Don't disappoint Africa, know the meaning of a name before you give your child.

I agree with you to a great extent, but disagree on some points. While I agree that most northerners Accord the sultan due respect, that doesn't mean they are structured to follow him politically. As a matter of fact, sultan does not interfere in politics of who should do what. Recall the 2011 PDP contest. Atiku, Gusau, IBB and Saraki merely agreed among themselves. So this has nothing to do with the sultan specifically. Again, the fact that this is the northern way doesn't mean there are no people who go outside this norm. They are just the minority
