What is Uber? Uber is a technologically-driven taxi company which helps customers hail comfortable taxis from anywhere, using an app. The customer downloads the Uber app on his/her phone and when a taxi is required, just pushes a button to request one. Using a special algorithm, the app then matches the customer to the nearest pre-verified taxi and provides a fare estimate. The app also automatically charges the customers registered card and the driver also gets paid directly into his bank account weekly, so no cash ever needs to be exchanged. After the ride, the customer receives a fare breakdown by e-mail like this below: How people make money through Uber Uber provides just the software to connect drivers with riders, and so the company doesn’t own any vehicles. This is where partnership comes in. People make money on the Uber platform by driving their cars themselves and picking up Uber customers, or putting a fleet of cars on the Uber network and hiring drivers to drive them. The easiest and most affordable way to do it is to drive for yourself on Uber. It is a great earning opportunity as you as a driver are self-employed and as such, you have complete control overwhat hours you work. You can adjust your availability to suit you, and the company only sends you customers during your available hours. There is also no need to haggle prices with customers as fare prices are determined bythe app, and are automatically calculated based on the distance and time. Uber takes a 20% commission and credits your bank account at the end of each week or month with your earnings. One driver confirmed guaranteed bookings of a minimum of 7 jobs each day, but an actual outcome of about 14 jobs by the end of the day. Assuming an average fare of ₦1,500 per ride, this translates to ₦100,800 per week (after commissions) for a driver working 6 days a week. While this is a “guesstimate”, the driver I spoke to reported earnings of about ₦110,000 weekly after commissions. He reported a monthly net income of between ₦240,000 and ₦260,000 after paying approximately ₦112,000 monthly for petrol and ₦60,000 monthly for insurance and maintenance expenses. Obviously,non-owner drivers should expect a lower net income after car rental/leasing costs. Update August 2016: The earnings reported below were reported around October 2015 with one of the first set of partners. A net profit of ₦100,000 to ₦200,000 is more realistic around now) How do I register as an Uber partner in Lagos or Abuja? You can register on the Uber network as: a.) A driver with no access to a vehicle b.) A vehicle owner who wants to drive c.) A vehicle owner planning to employ someone to drive If you are registering with a vehicle as c or b, you will need a scanned copy of the following documents: A 2006 or newer car in very good condition, which Uber will require that you bring in for an inspection. Your drivers license (for ID purposes) Your third-party vehicle insurance certificate Your vehicle inspection clearance papers (Book a test here) You will then need to register online as a partner using this link, and then select what category you fall into. The Nigerian government, via her National Biosafety Management Agency, has given a seven-day ultimatum to two retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry. They were given ultimatum to withdraw every product that has what food scientist call GMO i.e. Genetically Modified Organisms. They are to remove them from their shelves or risk being shutdown totally. The warning was handed out to representatives of the two superstores at a briefing in Abuja on Friday. The Director-General, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, said the agency had received complaints from members of the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores. In his statement he said, they recently carried out a survey of likely GMO products and they have been able to have some collections, some materials that are called GMO suspects. They are called GMO suspects because their full status has not been ascertained. He said the superstores were invited basically to make them understand that some of their products need to be properly checked before they are brought in, especially the imported ones that are likely to contain genetically modified materials, so that they will not run afoul of the law. “There is a law in place. We will not want any segment of the society out of ignorance to act in manners that will infringe on the law he said. The Biosafety Management Act empowers the NBMA to regulate the activities of modern biotechnology and the use of genetically modified organisms.” The agency will not find it funny with any of the stores found selling unregistered GMO products in Nigeria. He called on representatives of the superstores to ensure that all GMO products on their shelves were duly registered by the agency by obtaining permits. He further reiterated that “If they have any GMO food in their stores, they should be withdrawn from their shelves within seven days or face the full wrath of the law. Dr. Rufus Ebegba told them that samples of their products have been taken which is being analysed in the lab. This information is not peculiar to only the superstores. We are not threatening anybody, we are just telling you the consequences of dealing in GMO products if found in these stores. Within the next seven days, we believe you will withdraw from your shelves all foods that are derived from genetically modified organisms.” The NBMA boss on a final note added that they should hasten to comply by withdrawing all the GMO foods from their shelves or obtain permits or face the law. Nigerians are asking if the Nigerian government is ready for the task ahead but we are hopeful that if NAFDAC if fully funded they will handle it properly. www.nairaideas.com |

“Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.” – Warren Buffet The economic recession Nigeria is experiencing doesn’t look like what will end so soon hence the need to share some business survival strategies for recession. There is no one approach to surviving recession but this list will surely come in handy as it is working for people already as observed by Sandra Chinedu. 1.“Concentrate your energy, your thoughts and your capital.” – Andrew Carnegie Recession survival strategy number one is to ignore every temptation to invest in another project but rather focus on your current business. Doing this diligently and strategically will help any business survive recession and save the business enough cash flow to buy back twice the investments people are selling off due to recession. Companies can sell off majority of the stakes they own in quoted companies and use the cash pulled out to strengthen their balance sheet. Now why this? There is always severe drop in stock prices and value in recession, so instead of sitting and watching the values of your company’s investments go zero; sell off. Secondly; to you need to make sure our business is well positioned to adapt to the economic changes that goes with recession and to achieve that you need to be focused on your business. Finally if you can keep your business strong through the recession, then your business will grow stronger with the recovery of the economy and you will be able to buy back much more investments than you sold. “Know your numbers’ is a fundamental precept of business.” – Bill Gates The most important word in the world of business is cash flow. The second most important word is leverage. You need to gain a stronger control of your business cash flow. To survive a recession, it is advisable you keep an eagle eye on your cash flow. Ensure your cash flow stays positive throughout the recession by working closely with your customers to make sure they get maximum satisfaction. Endeavour to make sure cash continuously flowed into your business. Cash flow is the life blood of business so I am sure you don’t want to joke with it.“There is one paradoxical characteristic every entrepreneur must possess to succeed. An entrepreneur must be able to persuade his debtors to pay their debts promptly and at the same, must tactically delay payments to his creditors.” – Ajaero Tony Martins “Watch the costs and the profits will take care of themselves.” – Andrew Carnegie Another very important strategy to survive recession is to cut back on all expenses that are unnecessary. Be careful with your business expenditures. If your business spends money on frivolous things such as parties, bonuses, incentives and any other thing that has no direct impact on your company’s growth, then it’s time to cut back on them. Advertising is the mouth piece of business.” – James R. Adams One of the silly mistakes made by most business owners in a recession is to reduce marketing budget. Instead of cutting back on the marketing budget, I advice you spend more on marketing. Instead of going into hiding, it is better you do some marketing and let your customers know you will stand by them even in the face of a recession. Whenever you are strapped for cash; instead of reducing your expenses and hoarding some cash for emergency purposes, expand your means. All you need do is look for quality products at affordable prices or diversify and hit the road with some marketing. So the thing is to spend more on marketing and advertising when strapped for cash. This can also be applied to your personal life or business. Run a pay as you go system Also known as “bootstrapping,” this is one of the smartest strategies if the survival of your business during recession is of utmost importance to you. As a business operating in Nigeria because of recession, make sure extra expenses are made based on corresponding sales in other words pay as they deliver either service or product. For instance, let’s say you need to purchase some new office equipment or pay bills; strive to make sure that such expenses are made from the sales generated within that period of time. Never pull out money from your reserve to settle such bills or expenses. If the sales are not forth coming, then you need to put in more effort with respect to marketing. Focus your energy on survival To stay relevant in a recession, constantly innovate; be creative with your services and product offering. Apple is known for its creativity and innovative products, constant innovation is a part of their overall strategic plan to stay relevant in the market. “In three years, every product my company makes will be obsolete. The only question is whether we will make them obsolete or somebody else will.” – Bill Gates In a recession, your overall strategic plan should be focused on one thing “business survival.” Also work as a team. To be sincere with you; in a recession you should further deepen bond with your staff. Appreciate the importance of a business team. The major reason most small businesses will fail during a recession will be because they tried to survive by acting alone. Imagine trying to navigate a ship through the storm alone; it’s almost next to impossible. To survive a recession, you need to sail through the storm as a member of a team. “Individuals don’t win in business; teams do.” – Sam Walton Put more effort in excellent customer service “A customer is always right. He can fire everybody in the company, from the chairman down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.” – Sam Walton Loyal customers in a recession are your company’s greatest assets. Without them, your business will not survive the heat after all research said that it costs more resources and resources to find new customers than to retain existing ones. “Business is not just about doing deals; business is about great products, and tremendous service to customers. Finally, business is a cobweb of human relationship.” – Henry Ross Perot “Courteous treatment will make a customer a walking advertisement.” – James Cash Penny In a recession if you want to stay afloat you must stay true to your customers by establishing a closer relationship with them; provide excellent services and deal with customer’s complaint with utmost priority. Remember a competitor is looking for an opportunity to poach your customers therefore you need to be on guard. Inspire your employees This is not only applicable during a recession but also when you are experiencing difficulties in business. In a recession like Nigeria is experiencing, companies will be laying off thousands of workers. Rather than lay off, meet with them and explain the present situation on ground and the need to take drastic measures. “People are definitely a company’s greatest asset. It doesn’t make any difference whether the company’s product is cars or cosmetics. A company is only as good as the people it keeps.” – Mary Kay Ash “We treat our people like royalty. If you honor and serve the people who work for you, they will honor and serve you.” – Mary Kay Ash So when faced with a similar situation, you need to get creative. Show your employees love and they will commit themselves to your business. “We were most creative when our back was against the wall.” – Anita Roddick Lead by example by showing commitment When employees see the effort you put in, they won’t have the will to complain. Whether you want to cut back on salaries, demand an increase in productivity, then lead by example. If you are going to increase work time and cut back on salaries, start with yourself. Take a pay cut and work longer hours; this way, your staff will see the amount of effort you put in and with that, nobody will have the right to complain. Finally there is no one approach to surviving recession. You can network and talk to other business owners outside your industry and see what they are doing to stay afloat. Some of the steps they have taken may be applicable to your situation so ask questions. culled from http://nairaideas.com/2016/09/can-small-business-nigeria-survive-recession/ |
CHARITY AIYEDOGBON (CHACHA) IS GONE – WHO IS NEXT? The graphical illustration of the brutal murder and eventual dismembered body of late Mrs. Charity Aiyedogbon (Chacha) has left me traumatized and speechless. If as an observer, someone with no connection to her in any way is feeling so terribly bad and almost depressed and yet those who are suppose to care for her are not in any way worried, then something is absolutely wrong somewhere. It is either her siblings, her children, her husband, relations and in-laws are under a spell. Or it could be that this whole issue is just a publicity stunt to put the Aiyedogbon family in the full glare of the media, to achieve a purpose am yet to find out. Or, if it was meant to put Emeka (DPA) to shame as it was clearly stated in the scenarios under which Chacha could show up is also something am yet to put a finger to. But come to think of it, why would Chacha’s disappearance and/or appearance be of concern to emeka or the Due Process Advocates if not solely on humanitarian grounds. So taking a second look at the scenarios, it all simply point to one direction confirmation that Chacha is truly dead. Why was it a general consensus that she must die, was it because of her demand for a share of the property and money? Which I seriously doubt or is it that she came upon certain highly sensitive information she was not suppose to have come across? Whatever it was, was it enough to end her life? Was it enough to throw away all the memories of the past years? Was it enough to give the impression she never existed? These are questions that can only be answered by those who sat and passed the death sentence on her. The more I try to rationalize, the more I am convinced that her death is all about martyrdom. She has sacrificed herself so that other women will have hope and freedom. Her death is meant to put paid to the continued maltreatment and abuse of women in relationships. Her death is meant to expose the atrocities women go through in the hands of men. Her death is meant to bring comfort to all the women that have been in bondage. For many years the dignity of women has often been unacknowledged and their prerogatives misrepresented. They have very often been relegated to the margins of society and even reduced to servitude as if they simply have no rights whatsoever. This I tell you have continued to prevent women from truly being themselves and impoverishment on their humanity. Churches (some) have not taken the plight of women seriously. Some unknowingly have helped the men folks in perpetuating abuses and sentencing the women to their early graves. A woman in sorrows walks up to a pastor to complain of her maltreatment and abuse by her husband and all she is told is to go on her knees and pray, hoping that the man will change, yet when the woman gets killed on her knees same pastor will officiate at funeral. Pastors should devote more time in helping the women to achieve real equality in every sector of life: protection of nursing mothers, protection of perceived barren wives, protection for women with only female children, equality of spouses with regards to family rights and fairness in career advancements. Women are generally not looking for anything other than justice and equality. They want the men to appreciate them no matter how little. Am sure with time we will all know the role played by one or two pastors in this whole drama. Violence against women in the areas of sexuality and other forms of bodily harm is inhuman and must be condemned by all. All forms of sexual violence must be discarded. Women are not mere objects or property of men to be used anyhow and discarded off with. If a woman and a man build a home and for some reason the centre can no longer hold, the woman should be given what is rightfully hers and done in a very civilized manner. Nigerian men should not continue to imbibe the Jewish culture that regarded women as a piece of property to be owned or disowned as the men wishes. CHARITY AIYEDOGBON - CHACHA is gone, now we all refer to her as Late Chacha. Who is next? Who is that woman in an abusive relationship that believes deep down her that she can change that man? Who is that woman hanging onto an abusive relationship for fear of what the society will say? Who is that woman hanging on because children are involved? Forgetting that with or without you the children will be taken good care of. Who is that woman hanging on because you want a share of the wealth? Forgetting we all came into this world naked. Who is that woman hanging on because you think you can get him to deny his mistress? Forgetting that Solomon had more than enough My dear woman, once that spark is getting dim, please I beg of you, move on. Talk a walk for some time, and watch from a far. Do not allow yourself to be deceived. Because when it happens you will eventually be blamed, even more by women like you. Women please realize that your life is valuable. God gave it to you free and for a purpose do not throw it away all in the name of foolish love or the desire for money. As for Chacha, she has paid the ultimate prize. But one thing is certain, she will surely get justice, but it will now be in her absence. Do not allow yours to go the same way. GET OUT OF THAT ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP NOW!

Open Letter To Wuraola Otiti, Ooni Ogunwusi’s New Queen By Zainab Lawani Itohan Sonia Wuraola Otiti & Adopted Sister Jennifer Obayuwana It’s amazing how Jennifer is suddenly flaunting Sonia as her sister. Why haven’t you ever shown her as your sister all these years? You waited till the accounted Olori title came. Jen you and your father are just users willing to identify with anyone you can extort money from to buy your outrageous watches. Sonia is your sister, where were you guys when she was roaming all over Abuja. When she hits a big maga you identify with her to get him to buy your watches and luxury. Sonia remember that if anything happens to this your marriage to ooni that is the end of you. Gone are the days were you can come out and find another person. You are also too possessive and destructive to share your man with another woman. Infact nothing drives you nuts than your man having other women. You are destructively possessive. Will you now be breaking things in Ife palace when you see him with women? Will you now be driving any woman that comes near him in your usual way? You married Elie khouri legally at Amac. Until December you were still married. Is ooni marrying another mans wife? Abi ifa and ife Chiefs no dey check the hands of who dey enter their palace again? You lie so much and claim so much. You remember your days with your friend Fati after Saminu dumped you disgracefully and Hajiya at coomassie crescent who was also your love-vendor? Try and pay all the people you owe cos you are a no1 debtor. You married Elie to spite Abacha family. Now you are marrying Oba to spite Elie. His whole family went against him marrying you. You gave his mother so much hell. Talking down at her and disrespecting her your normal way of behavior. You sucked Elie dry all his little expatriate change you took it sent him into debt and you ran away. You were still sleeping around while married to Elie to fund your lifestyle. You think God is sleeping? Your story will come to light as it has always done. Correct your ways. Your quest for money, fame and power: this is your last bus top. You don enter one chance bus wey you no go fit comot. And if I know Sonia as I know her this can also be a fluke. Ooni must have gone on an outing with her presenting her as his wife before social media catches it. Sonia that we know could be strategizing. Until ooni marry you as wife it could still be one of your numerous frauds. Please come and pay all your gbese(debt) before we your debtors March to Ife palace. I also hope you have treated your very smelly armpit body odour. Are you still going to hold this marriage ceremony in John obayuwanas house as your fathers house? Because Na him house you dey always use shine. Since you are so ashamed of your fathers Benins flat(block of flat apartment) I am surprised you never used sense to build him a befitting house to cover up. You owed at Maitama shopping complex moved to Garki still owed. You can’t pay rent. Are you now back to Christianity? Cos you were born Christian changed to Islam bearing Zainab for Hausa men. Now you are marrying a Christian abi ifa’ist are you now chrisfa or Christian or Muslim? From Itohan at Benin to Sonia to Zainab to Wuraola Iya clap for yourself. You are the queen of rebranding. [Zainab Lawani writes from Abuja] Source: http://naijagists.com/friend-exposes-ooni-of-ife-oba-ogunw…/ Another Twist To The Story Sonia (now Wuraola Otiti) was previously married to former Jigawa Governor Saminu Turaki. Her marriage packed up due to a scandal involving her twin pregnancy because Turaki was battling impotency at that time. The marriage packed up after the twins died at birth. Sonia now Wuraola who was a UNIBEN dropout reportedly dated former Deputy Senate Majority leader, Abdul Ningi for a while. Their affair crashed over allegations of infidelity. Wuraola is still legally married to a Lebanase billionaire named Eli Khoury. Eli Khoury was the third man in Wuraola’s life. Wura who is in her early 30s met Eli and relocated to Dubai in 2015.. As at mid last year, she still flaunts him on the social media as her husband. She has since deleted all her social media accounts. Why did the Ooni got entangled with this highly controversial lady? Why did he change her name from Itohan Sonia Obahan to Wuraola Zainab Otiti?? Why did he tell his friends Wuraola bears the same name as his late mother if he has nothing to hide?? Anyway, we wish the King and his new Queen a blissful marriage. ![]()
