Gov. Akpabio is afraid of loosing to the opposition ACN in Akwa Ibom State. He only rigged himself to power, and there is every indication that the tribunal courts will upturn the victory in favour of ACN.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF AKWA IBOM STATE

WHY DOES DR. GODSWILL AKPABIO WANT ME DEAD?

On the day of the 2011 Governorship election, my attention was drawn to a publication entitled, “Withdrawal from Akwa Ibom State Gubernatorial Race As Deputy Governorship Candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria (A.C.N).” The publication dated April 22, 2011 with a false signature against my name was purported to have emanated from my desk and addressed to my Annang brothers and sisters. I have published the fake document on the left for the readers’ reference.

This came as a shock to me because there was never a time I contemplated abandoning the mass movement of the Akwa Ibom people determined to bring the much-desired change in our dear state. I never authored the publication. I never signed it. It was part of the antics of Dr. Godswill Akpabio’s campaign organization to rig the election.

The pamphlet was cooked up and distributed by Dr. Godswill Akpabio and the PDP who were jittery of the formidable Action Congress of Nigeria’s synergy in the state that was inexorably poised to reverse the evil and deceptive government of Godswill Akpabio. Aniekan Umanah, the State Hon. Commissioner for Information and his agents were seen distributing the pamphlets in the morning of the election day in all the polling units in Annang land made up of eight Local Government Areas. This was one of the tricks employed by a desperate Akpabio to rig the election. Despite the restriction of movement on that day, it was Ubong Emmanuel Umanah, younger brother to the same Aniekan Umanah that led about 14 vehicles loaded with thugs to my village, Ikot Obioko with the aim of mowing down all opposition.

Our saving grace was the presence of soldiers from the Army’s 6th Battalion, Ibagwa and policemen of Mopol 26 and 57 and the SSS officer in-charge of Abak Local Government Area who were present! The SSS officer addressed the thugs and told them to leave the village. The aim of the war brought to my village was to kill me and blame it on political thuggery.

That attempt failed. But the evil ones are unrelenting. Recently, the rumour making the rounds is that some people jumped into my compound in the village and killed me. I have received numerous calls from people asking if I was dead! I now know that Akpabio is testing the grounds for my elimination. Whenever I travel to Akwa Ibom State for the ‘terrorism’ charge Akpabio hanged on me, I notice unusual cars trailing me. The current rumour of my death has prompted this publication to alert the world about what might be the latest ploy of the evil ones.

This is not the first time that Akpabio’s Government has planned to eliminate me.

The evil orchestration to silence me is more sinister than the charge of ‘terrorism’ which Akpabio hanged on me before the election, and ‘treason’ which he hanged on Senator Akpan Udoedehe. Long before the election, he plotted to kill me and blame it on kidnappers. A concerned Akwa Ibomite tipped me off on a plot to kill anybody capable of challenging Akpabio in the April elections. I was top on the list.

When I got the gory details of the plot to use cultists to eliminate me, I sent an SMS to one of the masterminds, Umana Okon Umana, Akpabio’s Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to find out why they wanted to kill me. I received no answer. He later sent an SMS apologizing. The next day, Ini Udonwa who declared interest to contest as Governor was shot and his 62 year old mother kidnapped, violated, killed and her corpse was left on the streets of Uyo. Seeing that I had the details of the evil plot, Akpabio visited my residence in Lagos in the company of his brother, Nsentip Akpabio and Chief Dr. Chris Ekpenyong, the former Deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State. Akpabio knelt down and begged me not to allow the world hear about the plot. I forgave him. I told him to get up that he should not kneel down for me, but only to God. I advised him to use the position of his being the governor, to be friendly and good to people not to use it to kill or maim people and bring misery to them.

The second time was during my detention for “terrorism” at the SSS State Command in Uyo. Akpabio visited the facility in the early hours of Wednesday November 3, 2010 at around 2.15am. He came with the state Director of the SSS, Mr. Toma Minti. Thereafter, Akpabio and Minti entered my room and Minti had a conversation with me. Purporting to mock me, Akpabio sang a song in Efik: “owo inamke nkpo ikan oro eyen Abasi sosongo o!” (Man can’t do more than what He has done! Jesus thank you o!) There and then Akpabio supervised the torture of three innocent boys to get them to implicate me on kidnapping all to no avail. One of the issues Minti raised was that we could ‘talk’ so there wouldn’t be any need to go to court. My response was that I was already arraigned the previous day in a Magistrate Court, so there was no need to ‘talk’ but I insisted on clearing my name in Court. Akpabio left at around 2.57am. It is pertinent for me to let the world know that the SSS officers and men treated me well while I was with them. My special thanks go to their medical unit.

When Akpabio and Minti left my room, I began to feel dizzy and my blood pressure rose to an unprecedented high. The SSS Command’s medical unit can attest to this. I have been very ill since then. I suspect that some noxious gas was sprayed in the room by Akpabio. Should I die from this, I want the world to hold Akpabio responsible. Also, should I be suddenly kidnapped or assassinated, the world should know that Akpabio, Umana Okon Umana and the State Police Commissioner, Felix Uyanna should be held responsible. (Mr. Uyanna refused to give me police protection even as the deputy governorship candidate during the election and when I asked, he told me that he was rather looking for how to get me arrested). It is worthy to note here that Mr. Uyanna was the only Commissioner of Police that was not moved from his duty post during the last election. If any of my family members suddenly comes to harm, let the world know that Akpabio and his goons are responsible. How can one explain a situation where gunmen now invade churches in Akwa Ibom State during service and kill people? It’s happening under the government of Akpabio.

The content of the alleged withdrawal publication could not have emanated from me for the following reasons:

1. I remained the Deputy Governorship candidate of the ACN till the election. Had I withdrawn, the ACN would have put in a substitute. Thus, the question should be, if not for the electoral robbery that took place in Akwa Ibom State on the 26th of April 2011 and Senator Akpan Udoedehe had become governor, who would have been his deputy? Was there another running mate for the ACN? There was none.

2. There was no way, I, Ime Umanah, would have stated as alleged at paragraph 3 that I joined the ACN and accepted to be running mate out of anger and frustration! What manner of anger and frustration? I accepted being the running mate to Senator Udoedehe as a salute for his love for our state and exemplary commitment to rescuing our state from evil and oppression. On my part it was a sacrifice for the liberation of Akwa Ibom and show of loyalty to my people. Given the disturbing trends in our state, it was not an abnormal sacrifice for any person having the interest of Akwa Ibom State and its people at heart.

3. Paragraph 7 is the most repulsive. Even if I were dying, there was no way I would have faced my people to say I was supporting Akpabio as governor in view of “his landmark achievements in terms of infrastructural and human capital development.” How could I? Let Chief Dr. Akpabio tell Akwa Ibom people how much has accrued to the state coffers as federal allocation and internally generated funds for the past four (4) years as he continues to boast about the roads, flyover bridge and cinema halls when unemployment, poverty and hunger continue to decapitate the people! The facts speak for themselves. For instance his “free education policy” is a sham! As you read this, Primary School teachers in the state were paid their March and April salaries only on the 3rd of June and their May salaries are still outstanding.

4. Akpabio claims to have built 204 state roads and 26 federal roads. Can he name these roads for the Akwa Ibom people and the Kilometers of each of the roads? Can he confirm or deny that he is building one kilometer of road for N1 billion? In June of 2010, he came to Abak and claimed that the youths of Abak 5 were going to receive him and that was the first time I heard anything about Abak 5. On that day, he came to commission the Park Lane Road which is about 400 meters and the Nursery School Road which he claimed was about 900 meters. But Abak people know that these two short roads were built and completed by Ben Okoko’s Construction Company. The two roads were awarded and paid for by Obong Victor Attah’s administration. To me, Akpabio has brought deceit and lies into governance. Since he became governor, his utterances and actions have earned him unenviable titles of “busy body” and “inim Akwa Ibom”(Akwa Ibom parrot). And that has brought the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State to ridicule and disrespect.

How can I, Ime Umanah now say I was supporting him for a second term? Never!

The 2011 Gubernatorial election in the state was a war by Akpabio against 99.9% of Akwa Ibom people. We had a mass movement that the whole world saw and foreclosed the return of Akpabio. Those that robbed the people of their birth right in broad daylight should not rejoice because the matter is not closed. As a peace-loving and patriotic people, we cannot take the laws into our hands. That is why we have submitted our grievance to the Election Petition Tribunal. I won’t say any more on the election. We will allow the Tribunal to do its work.

That a nest of killers and kidnappers exist in Akwa Ibom State to intimidate political opposition and sexually humiliate their female relations is no longer a secret. During the days of President Umaru Yar’Adua, Akpabio told us that the then Akwa Ibom State Director of SSS, Mr. Mike Ejiofor had the effrontery to tell him (Akpabio) that he (Akpabio) was the leader of the kidnapping gang terrorizing the state and also had a killer squad. A furious Akpabio boasted that he stormed Yar’Adua’s office and demanded Ejiofor’s removal. He boasted that Yar’Adua summoned the then SSS Director-General, who came with another SSS official and President Yar’Adua of blessed memory ordered the SSS DG to relieve Ejiofor of his post in Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio said he had demanded that no Igbo man should be sent to his state on security functions. So Mr. Toma Minti from Benue State was sent. Ejiofor’s recall and posting to Abia State from where I believe he retired confirms that the SSS must have realized where the truth lies about his (Ejiofor’s) security scoop. There is no need to look for “terrorists” in Akwa Ibom State including those that burned President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign office and government cars to get the President’s sympathy before the election. Not when the burned cars and the campaign office were under a tight security watch by the police and other security agencies! Security agencies should have enough facts in their dossiers on where the terror in Akwa Ibom State is coming from. Who mastermind kidnappings, assassinations and violation in Akwa Ibom State? Security agencies know! I will leave it there.

The evil rumble in Akwa Ibom State is prophetically foretold in the Bible where it states that, “there are three things that make the earth tremble – no, four it cannot endure: a slave who becomes a king, an overbearing fool who prospers, a bitter woman who finally gets a husband, a servant girl who supplants her mistress,” Proverbs 30 vs 21 – 23 (New Living Translation). Chief Dr. Akpabio should find out where he fits in. This is the whole truth about the reign of terror in Akwa Ibom State .

It is more painful that when some of us were fighting for the creation of Akwa Ibom State, most of the people now destroying the state busied themselves with ‘419’ in Lagos bearing different scam aliases like “Group Managing Director of NNPC”, “Barrister Odd” and “Central Bank Governor” among others.

My good people of Akwa Ibom State, prior to and after the electoral robbery, we had asked you to remain peaceful. Please maintain that peace. With God as our Armour, the change team of Senator Udoedehe and I, will fight to vindicate you. I assure you that we won’t let you down. The Bible says that “when the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan,” Proverbs 29 vs. 2 (New Living Translation). Please persevere for God will arise on the side of His people. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning,” Psalm 30 vs. 5 (King James Version). There will still be morning on the horizons of Akwa Ibom State . The truth will prevail and darkness defeated, to God’s Glory.

Long live Akwa Ibom State !
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!
God bless Nigeria !!!

A High Chief in Oro nation, Hon. Effiong Eso Ononokpono, was Friday, March 26, 2010 at about 11am remanded in prison custody until May 14, 2010, by the Chief Magistrate's Court sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Weekly Insight checks reveal that the 75-year old Okobo-born political activist was arrested on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from his Odobo-Okobo residence by a team of policemen from the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, led by the Division Police Officer of Okobo, on the orders of the state government for a publication he made in page 11 of The Nation Newspaper of Thursday, March 25, 2010, titled: “Questions for Governor (Barr.) Godswill Akpabio.”
In the said publication, the former National Assembly member and close ally of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, earned the ire of the Akwa Ibom State Chief Executive, Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio.

The Secrets of Governor Godswill Akpabio By Thompson Essien

For the past two and one-half years as a governor of Akwa Ibom State, Goodwill Akpabio is walking around and governing running the affairs of the State with loads of secrets on his shoulder. Here are a few examples.

1. As of this writing, there is an ongoing investigation by some indigenes of Aka Ibom State to the speculation that Governor Akpabio was arrested and detained for two weeks by the police in United Kingdom. No one knows exactly the nature of the crime for which Akpabio was arrested and detained, though some people speculate that it involved money laundering, while others said it was about drug trafficking. But informed sources confided that when the incident occurred, Barrister Assam Assam (SAN) had to travel to London to negotiate for the release of Akpabio from detention. Reports revealed that when Assam Assam arrived in London, he had a hard time negotiating with the police for the release of governor Akpabio. But through connections with some British politicians, an unnamed Member of the House of Lords was brought in to intervene before Akpabio could be released. It is said that the incident was reported to the highest authority in Nigerian.

I am told that since then Akpabio has not traveled to United Kingdom, which may explain why governor Akpabio has been sending his deputies to represent him on foreign commitments, as it happened just a few weeks ago, when former Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, in company of Akpabio’s Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umana, were sent to Phoenix Arizona. Other sources have confirmed that the Federal Government of Nigeria actually put a cap on governor Akpabio never to leave Nigeria to any foreign trip without clearance by the Nigerian government. I cannot independently confirm the story but reports indicate that since July 2009, or there about, governor Akpabio, who used to visit the United States at least once a month, has not been in America.

An investigation on the story is still ongoing, which will bring the actual period that governor Akpabio was detained in the United Kingdom. But Akwa Ibom people do remember that there was a period when the whereabouts of the governor was not known and at the time, his aides refused to disclose his whereabouts. As of this writing, it is said that only very few kitchen-cabinet members of the governor know about the incident, and discussion of it, if it ever occurs, happens behind closed doors and in hushed tones.

2. Last month, governor Akpabio commissioned a publicly funded hospital and named it after his late uncle. At the time, many Akwa Ibom people frowned over the idea of a sitting governor dedicating a public structure for a family member. Information has just been disclosed that the governor also has instituted a memorial fund for the uncle, in which he deposited the sum of N10 billion. The money is not from private donations but the people’s money, which the people of Akwa Ibom State entrusted Governor Akpabio as the keeper. As of this writing, some concerned indigenes of the State are drafting a petition for EFCC to look into the matter, regarding the source of the fund and to ask Akpabio to return the money to the people’s treasury.

3. It has been reported that the salary of state employees for the month of December is yet to be paid. The reason for the delay, according to those in the know, is because the money for the salary of workers cannot be released by the bank, due to the contract terms of the fixed deposit, which the administration entered with the PHB bank. The administration wants to wait till the end of December before the money is withdrawn. That way, a full interest would be accrued on the money. A few months ago, though it wasn't publicly known until recently, Akpabio’s administration withdrew the sum of $3.1 million of such interest from PHB bank. The money was given to a trusted official of the bank by the name of Emem Etuk, whose husband is a Personal Assistant of governor Akpabio on Petroleum Matters, to carry it to Abuja for undisclosed reasons. When Mrs. Etuk arrived at Murtala Mohamed Airport, she was caught with the money and detained by the police. Informed sources said governor Akpabio spent more than N50 million out of the money to have the case squashed by federal authorities and force PH bank, which initially denied the ownership of the money, to assume responsibility of ownership.

As Long as Akpabio Remains the Governor, Kidnapping Will Reign in Akwa Ibom State.

About four (4) days ago, I received an unexpected telephone call from Hon. Commissioner Aniekan Umanah of Akwa Ibom State’s Ministry of Information. It was our first telephone conversation.

During the course of our conversation, this is the request I put across to Commissioner Umanah; “Honorable Commissioner, please tell Governor Akpabio that his decision to link Akpan Udoedehe to kidnapping in the State is a wrong tactics, which will backfire. Please tell the governor that no one believes him because nearly everyone in Akwa Ibom State knows who the kidnappers are and just because people don’t say anything should not be misconstrued as ignorance.” I will not divulge what the Hon. Commissioners’ response to my request was, other than to say it was more positive than I expected.

For a long time, many well-intentioned Akwa Ibom people have been shouting that the people who conceive, plan, and execute the crimes of kidnapping are members of Akpabio’s administration, but the governor, out of convenience, has chosen to ignore and instead focus on a target of his convenience.

Last week I wrote, and the article in Tell Magazine confirmed, that the kidnapping waves in Akwa Ibom State is as a result of cultism. I also pointed out that many of the influential cult leaders are currently working in various capacities in Akpabio’s administration. I offered suggestions on what the administration needs to do in order to curtail the waves of kidnapping in the state.

But I, and many Akwa Ibom people were stunned to read the report of the governor’s press conference, which credited him as saying that former Senator Akpan Udoedehe is the person to blame for kidnappings in the state. Immediately after the report of the press conference was mad public, telephone calls came in, including emails and text messages, from people all over the world, including folks in Akwa Ibom State, who told me that the governor goofed.

These people did not have to tell me so, I already knew that our governor is playing Russian roulette with the lives of Akwa Ibom people, which continue to be in constant danger of being snuffed away by kidnappers.

Governor Akpabio may continue to blame Akpan Udoedehe as much as he wants or point his fingers at anyone else as being the source of kidnapping in the state, the truth is, as long as the governor does not look inward, into his government, the crime of kidnapping will continue in the state for as long as he remains the governor of Akwa Ibom State, and that is an honest-to-God truth.

Gov. Godswill Akpabio is a thief grin A chronic thief of public funds. In about 2 years plus as a Governor he has recieved about 700 Billion Naira from Federal Government Allocations, and yet nothing to show for it. Those pictures are your imaginations existing only on paper. I was in Uyo recently and I saw poverty every where. The only "digital" things seen in Akwa Ibom are bill boards carrying his 2nd term campaigns. He is into kidnapping to scare away those who want to remove him come 2011. Presently a serving commissioner is in prison on murder and kidnapping charges. Pls stop parading him here and tell him to repent.

Akpabio’s Aide Denies Stoning Episode

Clifford Thomas

Correspondent, Uyo

As information of the stoning of Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State by angry youths at the Uyo Township stadium spreads like wild fire, a top aide of the governor and Commissioner for Information and Social Re-orientation, Mr. Aniekan Umanah has come out to deny that such incident ever happened.

Speaking with our Correspondent in a telephone interview, Mr. Umanah who expressed anger at the spread of such information which he claimed were calculated creating rancor in the state and to embarrass the governor who has done so much to improve the living condition of the people, the state Information Commissioner said that such incident never happened.

Seeking to know what the people would have stoned the governor for, Commissioner Umanah asked: “tell me, why would the people of this state ever stone the governor; did they stone him for giving them free education? Did they stone him for delivering free medical services for pregnant women, children and the aged; did they stone him for giving a fly-over that no government has ever given to Akwa Ibom people? Why would they stone him?”

He explained that the governor was only cheered by the people with chants of “Ado ok” at the stadium, “and I must tell you that the people were very happy with the governor, and couldn’t have possibly stoned him.”

The Commissioner’s reaction is in contradistinction with stories gaining momentum in the state that the governor who came in about five hours late according to a source to attend the ThisDay concert for peace in the Niger Delta event on Saturday evening, was stoned and pelted with sachets of “pure water” by angry youths who felt that for the governor to claim that he spent over N140 million for the hosting of the concert, “was an insult on the people of the state.”

Though the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) had protested about the non-patronage of local musicians with preference for foreign artists like American musician 50 Cents whom they claimed only sing songs which promotes violence and drugs, they had complained bitterly over the staging of the programme with such artists.

When asked to give his name in an effort to substantiate claims that the musicians association had a raw deal, a member of PMAN quickly informed our Correspondent, “do you want me get me killed and leave my young family without a bread winner?”

Another person who said he was at the stadium when the event took place, confirmed to Daily Independent that “the governor was actually stoned with ‘pure water’ sachets. I saw it with my eyes, and no government official should deny this. Infact, they should all be ashamed of themselves for deceiving the governor that all is well, whereas, things are really tough with the people here.”

who is lying now, Commissioner or the people, You go soon tire; THIEF.

If you know how much this man is spending to campaign for 2nd term even before spending 2 years in office, you will understand why everyone in the state is lamenting.

A “baptism of flying missiles” visited our Governor, Chief (Dr) Godswill Obot Akpabio on the night of Sunday December 20, 2009 at the Uyo Stadium, venue of the much publicized post-amnesty THISDAY Music Festival of Peace: Angry youths hauled at the governor sachets of pure water and canned drinks.

It was a disgraceful situation and was saved from degenerating when the governor’s security details rushed him under cover into his official car and sped off. The irate crowd continued with the hauling of stones and other things at his entourage as they move out of the venue.

The fracas ensued in the middle of the concert when the governor mounted the stage to announce that he spent N140million of the State’s resources to stage the concert which featured mostly foreign artistes. At that point of his speech, the angry crowd did not allow him to continue, but instead hauled missiles that forced him out of the stage; and the concert came to an abrupt end. I was at the Stadium and unfortunately one of the canned drinks hit me but (again) fortunately for me because the of loss velocity it did not cause much injury on me.

I travelled all the way from Ikot Ekpene (my place) to Uyo for the scheduled all-night concert and have never experienced thing of the sort before in my life. People started taking to their heels as the fracas erupted and I believe the incident should give the governor probably an insight of what awaits him when he starts real campaign for a second term in office; as the campaign seems to be the major thing happening in Akwa Ibom, in the last one and half years.
