BoldBrainz: Actually, the masses do have a humongous say in how the affairs of their states are run. Civil protests are constitutionally backed and when done right, have always achieved results.
The relaxed attitude of the citizens towards governance at the state level, has been a trend that has its roots planted in the Buhari's era (mostly during his second term). Prior to that, I vividly remember how several protests had locked down the government house in Cross River. Medical personnel, teachers, non-academic workers in state colleges, road transport unions, all had seperate protests and got practical responses from the state government.
Now we are all just focused on the Federal Government as if Tinubu and his administrative cabinet are supposed to drive to individual states to mandate those lackadaisical governors to act right.
We've made the FG the scapegoat and ignored the SGs in the process, when they're actually the ones plundering our home resources even more.
Ben Ayade, former governor of Cross River, ran that state like a conquered territory. He and his elder brother stole to their hearts' content, mined and exported natural resources like limestones, masterminded the deforestation of virgin forests just to have enough timber to export and all the while, the people focused blames on Buhari's FG.
Even if we all have different political inclinations, the truth remains that these politicians are united in the thievery of our commonwealth and it's only proper we demand what's rightfully ours from these governors. You're absolutely right, but my concern is for the poor masses to be protected at all cost. If we decide to do mass protest it might result to many hurtful things. During this past election people died, during that Ends SARS protest some lost their lives. They always push the masses to the war front meanwhile their family members are protected at all cost. Corruption has eaten deep into thier blood stream, it can never be any better. We should just take it like that. |

BoldBrainz: Time is the luxury the ordinary masses do not have. Same way we have been very consistent at demanding proper governance from Tinubu's FG, is how we should do with the governors.
People are dying from hunger. Children can no longer go to schools. There's a guy on this forum who has been hawking his Vivo phone for over 2 weeks just cause of hunger. No matter the political divide, we're all humans before our primodial interests.
Most of our state governors are basking in euphoria while hiding behind the cloak of our focus on the FG. They're not working. We need to step up the heat on them! As far as I'm concerned the poor masses have no say in whatever decision these thieves make, we just have to work hard. |
