News reaching Brainnews has it that five persons have been injured after an explosion rocked Port Harcourt Mall, popularly called Spar, beside the Government House in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to The Nation, the injured have been admitted at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH).

The explosion happened on the first floor of the two-storey edifice, with valuable property worth billions of naira destroyed. Before fire fighters arrived, efforts were made by in-house fire fighters and other workers to quell the fire.

About 6.30pm, the front and back gates were locked and no one was allowed in.

Two security men, who pleaded for anonymity, said the explosion happened about 3:30pm but there were no casualty as at the time our reporter left the mall at 6.45pm.

Nnamdi Omoni, the Police spokesman said the injured were receiving treatment at the Rivers government-owned hospital.

The Ninth Assembly inauguration has commenced, as senators-elect argue on process to adopt in voting, Brainnews report.

Some were seen pushing for secret ballot, while others wanted open ballot.

“I did not receive any court order directing the use of 2011 Standing Order for the election of presiding officers of the Senate,” N/Assembly Clerk, Mohammed Sani Omolori said.

NASS has now retained 2015 Standing Rule for Senate.

In the early hours of June 11, the inauguration of the ninth Assembly commenced.

A good number of incoming lawmakers are already present in the two chambers.

Mohammed Sani-Olori, the Clerk of the national assembly, read the proclamation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

After citing orders 2, 5, 7 of the Senate chamber, the event proceeded with roll call.
