The first commercial airline to be owned and operated by a state government in Nigeria and Africa, Ibom Air, will begin full commercial operations on June 7, an official said.

The Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Emmanuel, Mr Ekerete Udoh, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

The airline, having fulfilled all the regulatory conditions and requirements, was certified fit to commence commercial operations, leading to the maiden flight billed for Friday, June 7th. “It will maintain regular daily flights to both Lagos (MMA2) and Abuja respectively, Udoh said.

Udoh said: “The aircrafts in its fleet (Bombardier CRJ 900) have the distinction of being relatively new, all three, under 10 years old.”

He said the commencement of the commercial operations by Ibom Air had been celebrated by Akwa Ibomites and other Nigerians as a testament to the visionary leadership of Gov. Udom Emmanuel. “The governor who seems determined to break conventional wisdom concerning things long thought to be impossible to achieve,” he said.

He noted that the development was Gov. Emmanuel’s avowed determination to open the three gateways to industrialisation-land, sea and air appears to be on course.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN recalled that Ibom Airline which represents one of the signature projects Gov. Emmanuel’s First Term. The Ibom Air was launched on Feb. 20th with three aircrafts by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

An unknown man who was selling his wares in traffic, was killed on Tuesday, June 4th after a trailer crushed him to death.

According to eyewitnesses, the trailer driver was in line with other cars waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Immediately it turned green, the trailer driver attempted to move but unknown to him, the man was right in front of his trailer attempting to sell his wares to someone else. The trailer crushed the man’s head, spilling out his brain.

Report says that the body has since been evacuated from the road and deposited in a morgue.

A nosy woman was given more than what she bargained for, as her head got stuck in a metal gate for 5 hours, while spying on her neighbour.

Report says that the incident occurred in the city of LA Virginia in Colombia, where the woman was reportedly trying to eavesdrop on her neighbor. It is believed that the nosy woman whose head got stuck in the metal gate, was trying to spy on her neighbor and find something to gossip about with her friends.

Firefighters were called in and while they tried their best to get the lady out of the embarrassing situation, it took them five hours to finally pull her from the bars.

The photo from the incident which found its way to social media, went viral almost immediately.

On June 1, the University of Calabar (UNICAL), lost two of her students to Death; one coming from the department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, faculty of Arts and Humanities, Comr. David and the other coming from Physics of Physical Sciences, Comr. Ntiense.

The former, is reportedly a year two student while the later is expected to be in his pre-final year by next semester.

The U.S. State Department says that a Maryland couple has been found dead in the Dominican Republic with several bottles of heart medication nearby.

According to a Daily Mail reports, Cynthia Day, 49, and Nathaniel Holmes, 63, checked in to the Bahía Príncipe Playa Nueva Romana on May 25 and were due to depart Thursday, the same day their bodies were discovered in a room reportedly with ‘no signs of violence.’

A hotel worker found the recently engaged couple, but it was not reported whether the bottles were empty.

Diario Libre reported that Dominican Republic’s National Police found in their investigation Holmes had called for a hotel doctor Thursday morning, complaining that he felt ill.

However, he reportedly refused medical care when they showed up.

Facebook images posted Tuesday Holmes said he was having fun. In a caption he declared he’d had the ‘boat ride of a lifetime!!!’

At one point he wrote: ‘Can somebody please loan me $250,000 bcuz I don’t want to come home!!!!!’

They are the second American couple who have died in the Caribbean country since March.

Decomposing corpse of a Lagos businessman, Oluwaseyi Ishmael, has been found in his apartment.

The sad incident took place at the Magodo Phase 2 area of Lagos State.

Oluwaseyi, while soliciting the assistance of his family members, had allegedly threatened to kill himself if they refused to support him to raise funds to pay his house rent, PUNCH Metro gathered.

Report says that few days after the 45-year-old Oluwaseyi contacted his family, his decomposing corpse was found at his No 5B Ogedengbe Crescent, Magodo Phase 2 residence.

During a visit to the area on Tuesday, PUNCH Metro observed that the house was under lock and key as Oluwaseyi, before his death, was said to be staying alone in the duplex.

A neighbour of the deceased, who spoke to Punch’s correspondent on condition of anonymity, said a strange odour had been coming from the deceased’s house, adding that they discovered that it was Oluwaseyi’s corpse that was smelling when one of his relatives and the estate’s security guards forced their way into the apartment.

“Oluwaseyi stayed alone and used to lock himself inside the house for up to three months without coming outside. If he wanted to get something, he usually peeped through the window of the security house to communicate with people to help him get the thing. His house does not have light or generator; even the windows of the house are always closed.

“Before his corpse was discovered, we perceived a strange odour in the area but our thinking was that it was something else. We would not have known that he had died if not for his relative, who visited him and was unable to gain access into the house.

“Calls made to his mobile telephone did not go through; so, the relative was forced to alert the estate’s security about the situation and they came to force the door open only to discover his decomposing body,” the neighbour said.

Another source, who did not want his name in print, alleged that Oluwaseyi had threatened to kill himself if the family refused to support him in paying his house rent, adding that his corpse was discovered few days after he reportedly made the threat.

“Oluwaseyi had contacted members of his family on the telephone and threatened to kill himself if they refused to provide financial support to enable him pay his house rent. Few days after he made the contact, his remains were found inside his room after the door was broken down,” the source stated.

A close relative of the deceased, who identified himself simply as Ade, said Oluwaseyi had informed his sister that he was sick, adding that he discovered that the businessman had died when he checked up on him at his place of residence.

He stated that the claim that Oluwaseyi committed suicide because his family did not support him to raise the house rent was unfounded; adding that the result of the autopsy conducted on his corpse was inconclusive.
