PoliticsElection: 18 NYSC Corps Members Missing In Akwa Ibom, 14 Freed by MrTrend(op): 10:51pm On Feb 27, 2019
18 National Youth Service Corps members in total were abducted on Saturday in different locations in Akwa Ibom by unknown gunmen. 14 have since been freed, resident electoral commission in the state, Mike Igini revealed.

Ten youth Corp members, who worked as adhoc staff were abducted in Abak in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial, four in Itu and another four in Ikono, the report said.

The full statement by the state INEC REC reads;

“At Abak 10 corps members that were abducted were released yesterday and at Itu, four corpers were also kidnapped,” Igini said.

In Ikono, he said “that is one of the areas they smashed several polling units. They have a total of 11 polling wards they destroyed about 10. And four Corp members that were kidnapped were released.”

Igini said two corps members were also arrested in error by the police and have been freed.

“After my interaction with the Commissioner of Police they were also released as the fact before us showed that it was an honest mistake of using one paper for another. It was not deliberate, materials were mixed up.

Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Odiko MacDon said he was not aware of any abduction.

“There was no abduction,” MacDon said.

“I just spoke with state NYSC coordinator and there is no report of any corps members missing anywhere. We have not received any report that they were abducted.”

“While on patrol on Saturday with the Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs, we saw some corps members who left their duty posts on the claims that one or two persons were trying to invade their polling unit.

“We took them back to continue with their work. No corps member was abducted.”

PoliticsAkpabio Loses Senate Seat To Chris Ekpenyong (official Result From INEC) by MrTrend(op): 8:00pm On Feb 26, 2019
Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom has lost his bid to return to the Senate for a second term.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Tuesday afternoon (February 26th) finally declared Mr. Chris Ekpenyong, Akpabio’s opponent the winner of the election in Akwa Ibom North-West District.

The INEC declaration was done at the commission’s headquarters in Uyo due to security concern.

Suspense and tension was recored in the state after INEC suspended the release of the result of the election in which both the All Progressives Congress, APC and the PDP claimed victory.

According to the result announced by the returning officer, Peter Oban, a professor, Mr Akpabio, a former governor of the state, scored 83,158 votes, while Mr Ekpenyong scored 118,215 votes.

While reacting to the results, the INEC spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, Don Etukudoh, told reporters that the commission had to declare the election result in Uyo because of the “security situation” in the Akwa Ibom North-West District.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC in Akwa Ibom, Mike Igini, had said earlier on Monday, INEC would not declare the election result in Uyo because of legal implication.

Mr Igini had told journalists at the state collation centre in Uyo saying; “The results are ready, but INEC can’t declare it in Uyo. The law says the election results must be declared at the senatorial district.”

“The report we are getting about the security situation in Ikot Ekpene is that it is not okay for INEC to go there and announce results,” he added.

According to report, Mr Akpabio has petitioned the INEC over what he described as unfair treatment by the REC against the APC in the state.

Other results from the district

PDP’s candidate, Nsikak Ekong, has also won the House of Representatives election in Mr Akpabio’s Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency.

Mr Ekong defeated the incumbent, Emmanuel Akpan of the APC, with 29,849 votes. Mr Akpan scored 22,056 votes, according to the result announced also in Uyo by INEC.

Below is the breakdown of the senate result;

A special online auditions has been floated by Multichoice Nigeria for the Big Brother Naija hopefuls, Sun News reports.

For interested ones who were deemed unsuccessful at the last auditions for this year’s edition of Big Brother Naija, another opportunity beckons.

Multichoice Nigeria has floated a special online auditions for the continental reality show and it would be held from February 25 to 27, 2019.

However, to qualify, potential contestants are expected to record a two-minute video stating why they should be picked as housemates. After this, they are to log on to www.africamagic.tv/BBAudition, fill out the online registration form and upload their videos.

The online audition is open to interested participants who must be of Nigerian nationality and 21 years of age, with a valid international passport. They also have to be active DStv or GOtv customers, Multichoice reveals.

Speaking on the new development, Chief Executive Officer, Multichoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said: “We are giving more Nigerians one more chance to be a part of the biggest reality TV show on the continent by introducing an additional online audition process. We’ve seen how much the show continues to resonate with Nigerians and it’s our desire to create more success stories from the BBNaija platform. We are excited about this new twist and ask that more Nigerians take advantage of this novel opportunity to actualise their dreams of getting into the BBNaija house.”

Sponsored by Bet9ja, the reality show which is set to hold in Nigeria later this year, held its physical auditions earlier in the month in eight locations across Nigeria including Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Ibadan, Warri, Enugu, Calabar and Benin – an increase from previous editions.

PoliticsAgain, Atiku Confirms He Will Sell NNPC If He Becomes President by MrTrend(op): 11:34am On Feb 22, 2019
Atiku Abubakar, the main opposition to the incumbent administration and the presidential candidate of the PDP, has maintained his stand on the privatisation of the NNPC.

According to reports, Atiku made this known while interacting with stakeholders from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna state at the trade fair complex, said his resolve to sell national assets was informed by the fact that NNPC has since inception 1963 failed to meet its expectation of refining crude oil for the country’s consumption.

He insisted he will sell off the NNPC to provide more development, stressing his decision is against the backdrop that only very few are benefiting from the operations of the national asset at the expense of the masses.

Atiku challenged President Muhammadu Buhari, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum, to relinquish the running of the NNPC to ordinary people to show his level of sincerity.

Contrary to the widespread spread rumors that he will sell the NNPC to himself, the former Vice President said: “The NNPC will be sold to Nigerians with money to buy it.”

He explained: “Its 63 years Nigeria found crude but up till now we are yet to refine petrol and kerosine by ourselves.

“We have refineries in Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt but saboteurs stopped them from working.” he concluded.

PoliticsINEC Distribute Sensitive Materials In Cross River (Photo) by MrTrend(op): 11:07am On Feb 22, 2019
The distribution of sensitive electoral materials to some local government areas of Cross River for the February 23 elections has began, Independent National Electoral Commission source revealed.

The materials which are for the Presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections were distributed on Wednesday at the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to sources, the first batch of the distribution was for the five local government areas in Northern Cross River; Obudu, Yala, Ogoja, Obanliku and Bekwarra.

The sealed and stamped materials were distributed to the local government areas in the presence of party agents, security personnel, officials from INEC and the CBN.

Dr Frankland Briyai, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, told NAN that the materials were first dispatched to Cross River North because of its distance from Calabar, the state capital.

Briyai during the Inter-Agency Consultation Committee for Election Security Meeting on Tuesday said the same security agents were used in the movements of the materials.

He said: “We had already taken the sensitive materials to all the local government areas in the state before the election was postponed and we will re-distribute them accordingly.

“The same security men that conveyed the materials down there were also involved in bringing them back to CBN for safety.

“Also, the card readers are already reconfigured for the election.” The vehicles conveying the materials were escorted by armed mobile policemen to various local government areas of the state.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have alerted Nigerians ahead of the 2019 election.

Brainnews reveals that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised the alarm over the circulation of fake Dollar notes ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

In a statement personally signed by the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, the agency stated that the warning follows intelligence gathered in the build up to the elections.

The intelligence indicates that the Dollar notes have features of genuineness, but forensic analysis by the Commission reveals otherwise.
