Car TalkRe: How To Renew Or Replace Your Nigerian Driver’s Licence by msanda(m): 5:41pm On Jun 13, 2017
When is the best time to renew my drivers licence? Should I wait for it to expire or should I start the renewal process a month before it expires?

Sup bro, can u connect me with a partner, I av been driving since 2000, I av a 2001 Camry, which can't be on uber, but wouldn't mind driving for a partner, my number is 08099458696,
@samyyoung Have you concluded the Uber training and on-boarding process? If so, send your resume to modupe.uber@gmail.com
I know a partner in need of a new driver. I may give you a call during the week.

I guess folks have been using the term successful quite loosely. In all likelihood, Uber will continue to be profitable to itself in Nigeria and considering how flexible the company is, they will probably continue to modify their business model to suit the environment.
The question is, will it continue to be profitable for you or me to take a loan, buy a car and employ someone to drive on Uber? Or over time, will it only be profitable for drivers to own their cars on the platform? Perhaps the regular kabu kabu guy will hustle small and upgrade his vehicle to Uber standards so he can make a decent living. Or peeps will stick to the HP model. Either way, the customers win.
Starting my only car on the platform next week. Not yet buying a replacement sha. Will wait and see if it makes sense financially.
TokyoBulls:
Uber is a $63BN business in over 450 cities in over 70 countries. The fact that I or you have some issues on Uber Lagos does not determine whether or not their business model is successful.

ojochidem:
Uber Nigeria has reviewed the requirements for cars eligible for their low-cost option, UberX. They’ve lowered them. Now, car models as old as 2006 are accepted. These vehicles include Toyota (Corolla, Camry), Nissan (Almera, Sunny), Honda (Accord), and Kia (Picanto, Rio) models. Previously, the oldest models that were accepted were 2009 cars.

Uber has also completely dropped mileage restrictions. This means vehicles will be accepted no matter what their mileage reads (that’s the distance the cars have covered). The previous mileage restriction was 100,000km.

These modifications are all part of Uber’s plan to get more drivers on the road. In March, they introduced Uber Marketplace, a platform for Uber drivers to connect with partners and get discounts and insurance on cars.

Over the past month, Uber has launched in more African cities; Accra, Kampala and Dar es Salaam. Regardless of the problems it may be facing in a few African cities, Uber doesn’t seem discouraged from expanding in Africa.

All well and good. The question is how does Uber intend to ensure the quality of the rides? Also, not to be a harbinger of doom but as the market becomes more saturated, it becomes less attractive for new partners to invest in.
I'll be starting off on a trial basis at the end of this month. If the net returns don't compensate well for the wear on my car, I'll leave it to the 2006 vehicles.

Driver needed for a car on the Uber platform in Lagos

Individual must be well-spoken, honest and intelligent.
Knowledge of Lagos routes is a must-have.
The vehicle is a black 2010 Hyundai Elantra in very good condition (under 75km)
Remuneration is 20% (after Uber's deduction); i.e. the more you make, the more you take. This also applies to bonuses (for high driver rating, Uber promotions etc.)
Fuel, car maintenance and data costs to be borne by partner.
Driver may also be needed for other "errands" outside the Uber platform.

Interested candidates should reply to this post or email modupe.uber@gmail.com

Note: Applicants will need to be registered on the uber platform first. To do that, please visit www.ubernigeria.com/become-a-driver/ and carry out steps 2 and 3 (step 1 is not for drivers)

Car TalkRe: The Best Tyre For Nigerian Roads by msanda(m):
jpphilips:
kumho and prolly Hankook are korea, stay away from it. most hyundai and kia brands come default with them, better remove it and replace Asap for your own safety.
those tires aint meant for Nigerian roads
I second that. Had a nasty experience when I just bought my car. A Hyundai that came with Hankook tyres. Tyre popped at high speed on Ikorodu road. Got robbed by area boys while changing to the spare. Been using Pirelli since.

mrph: This is kinda old, BUT
im in the process of deploying an online shop in Nigeria based on magento and im wondering if these info and prices here are still up to date:
Is interswitch still 150k setup and 1.5% each transaction ?
Is etransact still 120k setup and what are their transaction fees?
Is etransact still only on 2 banks? If so, I doubt its worth more than 10K

5 years down the line... stumbled on this... Might explain why I have not been able to commit to the ladies I've dated since. undecided

Currently dating a smart, beautiful, enterprising lady and she keeps wondering why sometimes I'm hot, sometimes I'm cold, sometimes I'm a darling and sometimes she wants to kill me. I guess some relationships just mark you for good.

BusinessInternet Payment Solutions - Any Alternatives To Interswitch? by msanda(op): 6:16am On Jun 16, 2012
History: I found a similar post under the Webmasters section (https://www.nairaland.com/13343/which-online-payment-system-choose).
However, I believe this is a business problem. Also, it's been two years since the last response to that post (created in 2006)
Today, the cashless policy has been passed, things should have changed.

The question: What alternatives exist to Interswitch as an online payment solution?

The challenge: I run a website (a blog actually, www.moviegist.com) where I intend to start selling items (for physical delivery) to Nigerians in Nigeria. I need an a payment system linked to my site that will allow individuals to pay for items purchased from my site.

It appears the popular choice (judging from what is used by other websites like switchng.com, dealdey, etc) is Interswitch. While I have no qualms using Interswitch (I make regular payments with the system without issues), I like to know what my options are. Also, I am certain there are other businesses in the same shoes as I am right now.

So far, Google has suggested other solutions such as www.fastecash.com, www.topupnigeria.com and possibly www.etranzact.com but I am yet to contact any of these providers.

Please respond if you have tried any of the providers above (Interswitch, FasteCash, ETranzact, TopUpNigeria) or any other web payment solution provider. In addition to information on 1. registration costs and 2. transaction charges, I would sincerely appreciate comments on reliability (i.e. any downtime experienced?), customer care and response time.

Thanks, Nairalanders.
