Mutuwa: This latest alert from the US Embassy here in Nigeria about the much talked about Ebola virus is a sort of relief especially to those who have been reading so many scary and panic information online. Even the statements from the Federal government yesterday doesn't help matter. So now make sure you read this information and have some peace of mind. Read below...Thanks for this info. @Least the move by the Federal Govt will create job for some Nigerians though it's a late move but it's better than doing nothing. We ought to be PROACTIVE not REACTIVE. |
NEW DELHI: A traveller from Nigeria, who showed symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection at the IGI airport and was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, has tested negative for Ebola. The health ministry said the two passengers-a 27-year-old man who travelled from Guinea and a 40-year-old man who travelled from Liberia-who reached Chennai on August 9 are also in good health and under observation. Health minister Harsh Vardhan held a second inter-ministerial to review the preparedness on Monday. "There is no reason for worrying over the odd case ofa visitor to the country arriving in an indisposed condition. We have all the mechanisms in place for prompt treatment and monitoring," Vardhan said. m.timesofindia.com/city/delhi/Traveller-from-Nigeria-tests-negative-for-Ebola/articleshow/40075593.cms |
The Federal Government has approved the employment of 490 Environmental Health Officers (EHO) to man border areas to prevent further spread of Ebola disease. The Minister of Environment, Mrs Laurentia Mallam, made this known at the inauguration of the Governing Board of Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) in Abuja on Monday. Mallam said that the action was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to boost staff strength to check further spread of the deadly disease. She said that President Goodluck Jonathan had mandated the ministry to employ professionals to man border areas as well as ports, to ensure that those environments were kept clean. She, however, acknowledged the fact that the number to be recruited was inadequate, adding that more would be recruited in due course with the approval of the President. “Ebola is real and the Federal Government is ready to fight it. “Mr President has made funds available to the Ministry of Health to control further spread of the disease. “Nigerians, on their part, should be conscious of their environment and keep the environment clean all the time. “Though the recruitment of additional 490 environmental health officers for this purpose is not even enough because Nigeria is very big and this number cannot reach out to all states. “I believe that our President is committed to the prevention of this disease.” Mallam said that the ministry was ready to work with the council to ensure the early return of EHO, with the aim of attaining the level of effectiveness witnessed in the past. She stressed the need to key into the initiative by states and local councils for the prevention of diseases. The minister urged the council to report all cases of breach of the code of ethics of the profession by some erring members for discipline. “We want to re-introduce the environmental health officers’ cadre in our various communities in order to restore environmental sanity. “My ministry is ready to work with the council to ensure the early return of the environmental health officers with the aim of attaining the level of effectiveness witnessed during the colonial era and beyond. “I request the council to look into issues as well as reports of breach of the code of ethics of the profession by some members across the nation. “I want you to carry out full investigation and ensure that integrity is the watchword of practitioners, and any person, no matter how highly placed, found to have compromised should be appropriately sanctioned. In his remarks, Mr Augustine Ebisike, the Registrar of the council, commended the government for constituting the board. Ebisike said that the council over 2,000 certificates of registration for practitioners yet to be signed, due to lack a governing board. He said that the council would improve in its operational capability, to prevent outbreak of diseases in Nigeria. He also expressed commitment of the council to tackle the outbreak and further spread of the Ebola disease. Responding, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, the newly inaugurated board Chairman, urged every stakeholder in the health and environment sectors to play their roles in ensuring that the issue of Ebola was addressed quickly. Afolabi, who was a former Head of Service of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the ministry, appealed to the Federal Government to employ more professionals to meet the WHO requirement of one EHO to 8,000 people. He said that the council, under his watch, would not hesitate to discipline those who would bring the image of the profession to ridicule. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/ebola-fg-employ-490-environmental-health-officers-man-border-communities/ |

3. The Passing Look. I like passing. Not, like, in a Pep Guardiola/Arsene Wenger “it’s the only way nothing else matters” sort of a way. Just in the sense that lovely passing is often a really effective way to get the round thing into the rectangle thing and then score. Football at its best has a beautiful simplicity. Passing was invented as a way to get the ball closer to the goal and when it’s done right it really works. And within, quite literally, two weeks of starting in the job, Van Gaal had got United passing. The opposition was only LA Galaxy, of course, but not long after that, United repeated the feat against Real Madrid, not at their best, certainly, but still a fairly decent outfit. There’s been all sorts of different kind of passes. One touch flicks, carefully weighted through balls, long raking diagonals, and pinpoint crosses, with more of a purpose than just sticking it in the mixer and hoping for the best. United’s style of play in pre-season has been transformed, and if he keeps this up, I’ll love him forever. |
4. He’s already picking his fights In his very first press conference, Van Gaal was introduced by United’s press officer. With the slightly awkward invitation to “say a few words about how delighted he is to have joined the club” Van Gaal instead responded by talking about what an honour it was to meet Bobby Charlton. Or rather SIR Bobby Charlton, as he immediately corrected himself. He also said the pre-season tour was too long and whilst he understood the corporate needs of the club he felt football had to come first. Speaking ill of Sir Alex is, of course, taboo, but Fergie never spoke out against the commercial demands of the club which made him a very wealthy man. Van Gaal immediately set out his stall immediately as a football man. United desperately need a “football man” in charge, given the lack of footballing nous in the upper-echelons of the club’s management structure. Van Gaal can, and apparently will, seek to be that. |
I cannot tell a lie, folks. I’m a little bit in love. Louis van Gaal, of course, looks all the more beautiful because of who he’s replacing. Even without the Moyes effect, however, Van Gaal’s entrance has been not so much a breath of fresh air as a high-powered air-conditioning unit on a hot day. So what has been so great about him? Let’s take a look at my top five favourite things he’s done so far. 5. His unique use of language This is the first time United have ever had a manager whose first language is not English. Van Gaal has an excellent grasp of the language, but there are some beautiful idiosyncrasies in his pattern of speech. Firstly he always calls himself a “Trainer-coach”. He rarely says one or the other, and rarely says manager. Secondly, he always calls his squad or team his “selection”. Thirdly he called pre-season “preparation time”. All three of them are telling, in some way, of his approach to the job. He IS a “trainer-coach,” a manager determined to get the best out of his players by improving their capabilities. Witness his management of the Dutch national team, or Ashley Young’s excellent pre- season. The squad IS the “selection”, those lucky enough to be chosen, those available to be chosen from. And pre- season is preparation time. It’s not “shake a bunch of corporate sponsors hands and fly round the world” time. Which leads nicely to point number 4. therepublikofmancunia.com/top-five-endearing-things-louis-van-gaal-has-done-at-manchester-united-so-far/#respond |
'Welcome to Vanchester' Banner Celebrates Louis van Gaal's Arrival in Manchester. It's been five years since Carlos Tevez jumped ship from Manchester United to Manchester City and was greeted by that infamous "Welcome to Manchester" poster. Now to celebrate Louis van Gaal's arrival in the red half of Manchester, it appears that a fresh version of it has been produced.

A good article, I agree with everything especially the 9/11 attack. You should work on Nigeria conspiracy theory too. 1.Boko Haram (are they truly an islamic sect whose aim is to kill christian in order to Islamise Nigeria), it's definitely a conspiracy. 2. 1993 June 12 Election. 3. Death of Abiola 4. Death of Kudirat Abiola, Bola Ige e.t.c. 5. Modakeke and Ife war We can go on and on. |

Fani-Kayode congratulates Aregbesola for defeating Omisore “convincingly” August 10, 2014Press Release Femi Fani-Kayode Femi Fani-Kayode For the last two weeks I have been in the field in Osun state campaigning for my friend, brother and kinsman and my party’s candidate in the governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore. It has been a gruelling yet wonderful experience and I am very proud to have been part of the team and so deeply involved. It is now 7.00a.m. in the morning and the final results of those elections have just been formally announced by INEC. They are as follows. Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the APC polled 394,684 votes whilst Senator Iyiola Omisore of the PDP polled 292,747 votes. It is clear from the foregoing that Aregbesola has not only won but he has also won convincingly. I hereby congratulate him and his party on their victory. I commend INEC for conducting a free and fair election in which there was no rigging. I commend the security agencies for maintaining law and order and ensuring that no-one was killed or maimed. I salute the courage of my friends and colleagues in the PDP in Osun state for putting up a good fight. I thank my kinsmen and the good people of my district, zone and hometown Ile-Ife particularly for standing by the PDP in this election and delivering virtually all the votes in their four local government areas to our son and candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore. This is democracy and the will of the people must be respected. You win some and you lose some yet the struggle continues. Though we lost this one we are not deterred. As a matter of fact the battle has just started and we are deeply encouraged and touched by the massive suppport that we received from many quarters. We shall continue to proudly fly the flag of the PDP and we shall continue to work and fight for a better Nigeria. God bless the good people of Osun state. It's no longer a news that the incumbent Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has been declared winner of the election held yesterday by a wide margin. The Governor has responded by given a victory and acceptance speech this morning where he commended the courage, determination and steadfastness of Osun people and clearly condemned the militarization of election. It's crystal clear that a lot of news will still follow this INEC declaration of Aregbesola as winner with notable names already congratulating him. This thread is created to know your candid opinion on the election and it's process at large in relation to the much anticipated 2015 general election, we will also give you updates on the aftermath of the election. Be the first to comment and let's roll it! |
Let me imitate Patrick Obaigbon; I'm in consensus ad idem with the Mr. President on this. Kudos! |
