To the best of my knowledge, only the Scandinavian countries have any such i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland etc. Not anywhere else and certainly not North America (US & Canada) except for their citizens and they have to meet a certain set of criteria (usually a very high CGPA); unlike the Scandinavian countries who give it to both citizens and non-citizens. Their academic selection criteria is also high and you'll have to convince their embassies that you can sustain yourself while in their country without having to work (an account balance of 1.5 million should see you through). |
", this power which belongs to us must remain in the North until 2015". Alhaji, i beg to differ, Power belongs to God. "Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them" Daniel 2:20,21 |
There's such a thing as a tactical mistake; and i hope that by going to meet IBB on his turf (Niger state), the president hasnt made a blunder. |
'We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God's purpose prevails'. I didnt say that. Its in The BOOK. Proverbs 19:21 (The Mesage) |
Common guys! whats dis about? This is an online forum and people are free to post on it whatever! I'm sure the forum is moderated, but only loosely at best and thats the way it should be. We supposedly believe in freedom of speech but sometimes we merely pay it lip service. The people that make the pro IBB posts know this is a forum that they can take advantage of because of its popularity with our age group. and they sure are using it (and Im sure we aint seen nothing yet, wait till the election heats up). I believe in speak and let speak: let everyone have his say and if u have a differing opinion, also have your say. Why do the Punch and Guardian etc run advertisement for causes u can see in their editorials that they dont believe in? This thing called freedom of speech/expression is the bastion of true democracy. Having said that, I believe it is very unfair to levy those allegations against Seun. He is someone I know very well which I am sure, is more than these his accusers can say else they wouldnt make this allegations. And thats all Im going to say to that. but anyone who has met him can say more abt his personality traits. And thats another one of our problems - making unfounded allegations. And concerning IBB, what can I say? I think that philosopher said it best when he said "a country gets the leader it deserves". Till we can show in practice and principle, that we deserve better, believe me, we are only going to get leaders in the mould and ilk of this present crop of selfish, self seeking, self serving politicians. Why? Because we ourselves are by nature selfish and self seeking, so why should our leaders be better than us when we are no better than them. The bane of the country is the dearth of self sacrifice and courage among ordinary Nigerians. |
Becomrich0:By your logic sir, that means Ibadan is either 20 million in population or rivers is only 1.25 million people strong and neither scenario is very plausible. You do have a point though, our demographics is all screwed up, not only in Rivers and Oyo, but from Abia to Zamfara. And as Donald Duke pointed out in that wave-making speech, we are closer to 200 million than 150. |
Kennyblues:Of course we all know you used your father's name to contest. Or more acurately, your godfather's name (one Lamidi Adedibu, sounds familliar mr governor?). But what the heck! Father and godfather are the same shebi, mr governor Alao Akala Adedibu? carry on sir! Eyin le l'aiye. |
paddyboi:In a country thats teetering on failure, we need more arms like the plague, especially not with our reckless, trigger-happy, undisciplined millitary men. What for anyway? Are we at war? If at all we are, we are at war with ourselves. In which case, the police and not the millitary need to be re-armed; not that I recommend that either except we are ready to overhaul the police force extensively. If we had the right kind of leaders (leaders in the mould of Awo), we could easily revitalise our ailing educational sector, from the Primary to the Tertiary, with that kind of capital expenditure (3.5 Billion US Dollars, for crying out loud). But the bane of the country is its leadership and i daresay we are not in danger of seeing that kind of money ACTUALLY spent on the education sector (maybe on paper, yes). President Goodluck Jonathan isn't naive and wont shoot himself in the foot by awarding such a huge contract to IBB, his arch-opposition. And if he does, hopefully , IBB will only top-up his loot and not execute the contract, like Jamace said; which IMO is better than giving guns to the millitary only for them to turn it on the civillian populace. |
the polarity in here is actually interesting. i have taken time to read almost all d posts and i find that roughly, the gals sympathise with d'banj and they r more or less like 'is she suffering temporary insanity or sth?' and the guys, well to quote one of them, genevieve actually stooped too low in befriending d'banj (one has to wonder wht criteria dis guy considered, cos if its money, d'banj is definitely richer than her). but like i said this is rich in humour - it seems d guys hav a crush on Genie and the gals on Dbanj (some of them could giv their right hand for 1 date wit d self-styled 'koko master'). guys and gals wht can i say, ya'll hav been watchin way too much tv, get into d real world. |
muhsin:Hi Mushin, I have spent the better part of an hour trying to locate u on nairaland and a darn good part of a month trying to find a review/summary on the Internet of 'An African Night's Entertainment' by Cyprian Ekwensi. Unfortunately both quests have turned out futile. I am wondering, could you please do a very brief summary of the book for me? As brief as is convinient for u, not to take too much of ur time. Basicaly, all i want is the plot/outline and the major characters in the book. I should have been able to lay my hand on a copy of the book, but I am currently out of the country and I need it for an urgent assignment. I would appreciate if any1 in da house could help me out: just pls make a post of it on this page, I wll be checking most eagerly for the next couple of days or so. And finally, however on earth does one send a PM (personal Message) to a fellow Nairalander without leaving the site; i know such a thing exists as I have read the 'SMF User' help manual (https://www.nairaland.com/Themes/default/help/pm.english.html) but i dont seem to be able to do it from my pc. case in point: assuming i wish to send this message to a specific person alone, say mushin, and not to the general public? Thanks all! |
