@poster IMHO your best bet is to structure your business in a way that you won't need Paypal, there are credible alternatives out there; just do your homework. There are also tons of ways to circumvent the Paypal rules but again IMO if an entity is not interested in your business it's always better to take your business elsewhere. However if you think you can't find an alternative to Paypal for now, then its better to go about it in a legal manner by having an acquaintance in a permitted country use their address to open it for you. That way your account can be easily verified & funded. this have the added benefit that if you buy items with Paypal, it can be sent to a physical address over which you have control. If whoever you are dealing with knows that you are reliable s(he) will be more than happy to help you especially if you treat the arrangement as strictly business. In the unlikely event you don't know anyone abroad who can help you, I'll be delighted to open & verify your account for you. Its actually quite easy & it's free. Good luck in your business endeavor. |
IMHO Nigerians prefer HP laptops. So it tends to sell faster than other models. I would also avoid used computers if I were you. You'll discover that though your customer will claim they just want the cheapest system that works. they'll start complaining when they actually receive it even though it's what they agree to buy in the first place. Then if the battery goes bad or they are unable to install certain software, they'll complain to you & you might get a bad rap if you don't replace the part; though doing so might mean you are operating at a loss. Your best bet might be to let your relative send only new laptop, unopened directly from the store to the customer. that way if anything 'go wrong' the customer won't be able to 'pin it on you' I would also start small just a few (even just one) & you can increase the volume as you gain more understanding of the market, otherwise you might end up destroying a good relationship. a 5 - 10% mark up will be ideal. Good luck in your new endeavour. |
Can help if you need someone on the east coast or the midwest i.e NY, Chicago or the Detroit area. Good luck. |
it seems this informative thread for Nigerians in the diaspora have been allowed to die a slow death. Be much obliged if the original posters & other well meaning members could please resuscitate it. I'll be interested to know how the foray into the world of Naija stock market is working out for everyone! Appreciate a response; thanks all. |
Dear Nairalanders, I have been in the business of selling tablets especially iPads & kindles in Nigeria since the original ipad launched. Recently I noticed that - though the price of even the cheapest iPad remain unchanged ($499 before tax) & I only add minimum mark up - I have been receiving complain that my price is too high; I was told about folks who now sell new entry level iPad for I don't want to stop this business as I can control things & not rely too much on others. Before I started this, I have tried several others ranging from selling cars to organizing seminars and I invariably got burnt by people who were supposed to help facilitate the success of the endeavors. I confess though that I don't see a way out, I have tried to add value by loading the system with even premium apps that I pay for at no cost to the client, but how can I sell below cost & stay in business? how are these people able to sell at such ridiculous prices? please help. |
