It is up to you though, but i will suggest you wait a while... you just submitted your application. So give it some time. If after about 4 weeks nothing, then you can go ahead to do upfront medicals.
With regards to speed up process, please know this today that CIC takes their sweet time... and even if you do medicals now, it will only be updated to pass. But that will not reduce the time the VO will put into your background check or eligibility review.

Jadezion:
Hello guys

Pls is it best to do upfront medicals
I have submitted my application- online
Biometrics updated as I had previously done biometrics in 2017 for visit Visa.

Is it wise to do upfront medicals?
Will it speed up the process?

But is it a crime to come back home even for a visit? No be bad idea before ooo.
Yeah some international students do come back home to renew their visas especially if they plan to travel somewhere out of the states.
There was nothing wrong in coming back home. The only thing wrong was her using state funds for her pregnancy and birthing of the baby. What is the probability that this would not have occurred in Canada or Mexico?
It is even worse to have your visa denied in those places than in naija cheesy cheesy cheesy
Also getting a visa to Canada even while on a student status in US is not a guarantee given the current trend of people crossing the border illegitimately.
The husband did no wrong in advising her to come home... ha bros if na you nko? shebi you no go ask wifey to show? wink wink wink
She was already approved of her visa, na the hospital bills cause problem.

Ajibade105:
What you would have done is to ask on nairaland before telling your wife to come back to Nigeria to renew her visa. I understand you wanted to see your baby but your eagerness landed you the wrong decision ever (no vex). I hope your wife doesn't have access to this forum because after reading the replies she will be mad at you for the period she's in Nigeria with you.

I am sorry to say this, you gave your wife the wrong advice ever by telling her to go to Nigeria to renew her visa. She should have just gone to Mexico or Canada to renew her visa if needed.

She should know better since she is in the US. What happened to the international student office in her school?. They would have just helped her extend her stay by giving her new I-20 and there would not have been an issue. With this, it solves the problem except if she wanna leave the US, that is when she needs to renew her visa.

International student advisor is in the best position to advise your spouse and not you, Mr. Husband. You just mess the whole situation up. I will advise she contact the international student office, they should be able to advise her better. I hope she gets this resolved asap.

This is awesome.
I am so happy for you.

Congratulations

Schonebaby:
Thanks to all my beautiful people. I see you all. All our labour will not go unrewarded.
I really desired to go with my family cos they mean the world to me. So contrary to popular opinion that one cannot get visas for family while still in Nigeria, I decided to apply. I started preparing for the application immediately I submitted mine. First, we valued our property (about 12 million), we also booked upfront medicals. Fortunately my visa came before the date given.

So I got my study visa May 7th. And I used these documents from me:
My approval letter
My passport showing visa
My previous passport
My admission letter
Funding letter (showing I have over the required 10k cad for personal living expenses, apart from tuition)
Letter of invitation. I explained several subtopics *relationship history *why swop and visit visa for daughter (daughter is less than 2 years) *funding and budget * husband work expertise and designation *purpose of visit( to join mum for PhD)
I realised that unlike study permit application which is quite objective, sowp and family sponsorship application can be very subjective. ( I wrote the sop in a way that I appealed to the compassionate side of the VOs). I particularly capitalised on the fact that I don't want to leave my baby for 4 years + ,nor my husband.

For my husband:
A letter of introduction introducing him and his relationship with me, his work designation ( he's an engineer). He talked a lot about his work achievements e.t.c since its a work permit application
Introduction letter from work
Appointment letter
Confirmation letter
Id card
Payslips

Hometie
Property receipts
Property document
Valuation
His Pension fund account. ( just about 1million plus)

Financial part
This was very tricky. After much deliberation. We decided to use what we have.
My husband had a million plus in his account. His father had earlier sent to him 1 million, 6 weeks before we applied. ( We explained it in our letters).
My mum gave us one of her fixed deposit monies (2 million). We included the fixed deposit certificate to show it has been fixed for 3 months and I stated in my letter the day it was terminated and sent to my account. It was sent just 2 days before I applied but I made sure I showed it has been fixed for a long time and thus, its available.
So basically our funds consisted entirely of 2 lump sums but it was explained with proof.
We included our parents ID cards , passport, sponsorship letter from them, and employment / retirement letter. We also included our birth certificatesto prove paternity.

Daughter:
Her birth certificate
Her immunization report
Little things like her church dedication certificate bearing our names.
We included photographs but vfs did not allow us to submit it. I later submitted it via webform.

We submitted May 14 exactly a week after I got my trv
May 23, medicals was passed
June 17 BVL came in for my husband
June 27 approval for them both.
My daughter was even given 5 years visa. More than my 4 years program.

I saw God's hand in this application. Honestly, I was so clueless. But, the Holy Spirit helped me every step of the way. Writing the letters, tackling the financial part e.t.c.
He made this possible.
I will like to answer questions more on the forum as suggested by Mods so everyone can learn instead of pms.
I return all glory to God o
My temporary lovestory with CIC has ended in praise

I think @ralfudoh will be in the best position to help you on this. I only mentioned him cos he is one of the persons who recently got PPR and submitted passport at Abuja a few weeks ago in May. I will also suggest that you find out from the manager what the reference letter looks like. If he has a sample then he should show you.
Rather than fly down to Lagos and then find out the same thing is now applicable in Lagos, I would suggest you make enquiries first. Afterall I believe it is the same VFS Global.

Shadypoza01:
Exactly what i thought mehnnn. Getting to VFS Abuja, d manager asked me to send a mail to embassy, requesting a reference letter. Na wa o. Maybe I'll just have to fly in to Lagos 2mrw n submit it in Lagos

Hi

What have you been doing since 2010 will be one of the reasons to fill the gap.
Another reason is why do you wanna go now?
Also what are you gonna study? Is it in any way related to what you have been doing? Or is it something new? or related to your BSc? These are things you need to consider.
I have seen on this thread person who have a long gap between their studies and still approved visa.

If you are able to clearly point that out in your application and LOE, and have all the appropriate and correct documents submitted, then i do not think you will have a problem.

Best of luck.

Hi @salmahhhh

I am not a guru, but I will try to help as much as I can. Also I do not have answers to all of your questions.

1. How can I tackle the employment situation? Immediately after first degree, I did NYSC, then second degree.
• Just explain what you have been doing after your second degree. There is no harm in being unemployed, but if there is a gap, and no explanations as to why the gap, then it would seem you are not busy.
• Be as truthful as possible, because it is easier to be truthful than to cook up any stories. Now what have you been doing since after your second degree? No matter what it is, put it there.

2. I did paper application. Will I have to apply for my passport to be sent back to Lagos or it will automatically be sent since it was a refusal?
• For this I do not know, but from what I have read on the thread, I believe your passport will be sent to you.

3. Language and Literacy education, and English Education are related. Why is purpose of visit one of the reasons?
• Though purpose of visit is a generic phrase they use for refusals, this can be tackled if you genuinely show you are going to Canada for study, and then tie the connection in your LOE. When you say Language and Literacy education how does that connect with English Education?

4. If I tackle all these problems appropriate for the next application, can another problem like travel history crop up?
• Again this is uncertain, some persons in this forum have used new passport with zilch travel history to apply for study permit and were approved. (Also think the VOs use this as a generic as well)

5. My start date is September 2019. When will be the perfect time to reapply?
• I think it might be too late to reapply given the current trend in delay of response from CIC, however there is no harm in trying. If you feel you have all the problems tackled, then you are good to go.

6. Personal asset and financial status.
• Do you have any landed property or anything to show you have some assets? Also your financial status is of concern because you did not show anything of yours as per finances.

7. 3rd party sponsors SOA (inflow #68m, balance 86k - I was told that the balance wasn't important but the functionality of the account)
• I do not think that is actually correct with regards to “balance wasn't important but the functionality of the account”. The balance may not be important, but I think it should be more than 86k.

Like I pointed out earlier I am not an expert or guru in this, just my opinions based on what I have learnt on this thread.

Best of luck.

Salmahhhh:
Good morning house!

I came across this forum immediately after I submitted my study permit application. Having read through, I knew I submitted an empty application. Please, I need your help in reviewing my refused application coz I plan on reapplying. I submitted the following documents:

CIC forms
Transcripts and Certificates
3rd party sponsors SOA (inflow #68m, balance 86k - I was told that the balance wasn't important but the functionality of the account)
SOP
Sponsorship letter
Introduction letter from my sponsor
Birth certificate
Passport data page
Acceptance letter from University of Manitoba

I was accepted to study Language and Literacy Education at the PhD level in the University of Manitoba. I finished with a 4.6 cgpa (masters in English Education). My first degree was also in English Education. I have never been properly employed, all I did was study.

I was refused based on the following reasons:

Family ties
Purpose of visit
Personal asset and financial status
Current employment situation

My Questions are:

1. How can I tackle the employment situation? Immediately after first degree, I did NYSC, then second degree.

2. I did paper application. Will I have to apply for my passport to be sent back to Lagos or it will automatically be sent since it was a refusal?

3. Language and Literacy education, and English Education are related. Why is purpose of visit one of the reasons?

4. If I tackle all these problems appropriate for the next application, can another problem like travel history crop up?

5. My start date is September 2019. When will be the perfect time to reapply?

I need help please, gurus in the house, see to my case.

Thanks in advance.

Please bros...

The following bolded is on the CIC website which provides the conditions that can allow someone apply for a study visa/permit while inside of Canada.
See link below:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/apply.html

Only some people can apply for a study permit from inside Canada. Do any of the situations below describe you or the person you’re applying for? (required)
You’re currently in Canada and one of these applies:
• you have a valid study or work permit
• your spouse, common-law partner or parent has a valid study or work permit
• you’re a minor child in primary or secondary school
• you’re an exchange student or visiting student
• you completed a short-term course or study program required to be accepted at a DLI
• you or your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child has a temporary resident permit (TRP) valid for 6 months or more
• you’re being sponsored to immigrate and you already applied for permanent residence (if you’re eligible)
• you or your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child are subject to an unenforceable removal order
• you’re the spouse, common-law partner or dependent child of:
o an athlete on a team based in Canada
o a member of the media
o a member of the clergy
o military personnel on duty in Canada or
o an accredited foreign representative

Moreover if that even happens, they still have to go get their biometrics taken in a country outside of Canada (so why even bother to start).

See below from their website again:
If you’re already in Canada and need to leave the country to give biometrics
If you’re in Canada and you apply for an initial study or work permit, and you received a biometrics instruction letter from us, you may need to leave Canada to give biometrics.
Do NOT travel to the United States (U.S.) to give your biometrics. You must already be legally in the U.S. or an overseas territory of the U.S. to go to an Application Support Center.
Instead, go to a visa application centre (VAC) in any other country that you can legally enter, such as your home country, to give your biometrics.

While I agree your experience is your reality, it still does not cut it here for someone who has a valid visitor visa applying for a study permit in Canada. It will not work. The conditions are up there. Again the part of your statement italicised and bolded is not clear... someone can apply for a study permit in Nigeria and travel to Canada or any other country and receive passport request. @omonoba received hers in US and submitted in US. Same applies for your friends mom... and i believe same can apply to someone who applied outside of Canada and is in Canada when the request shows up.
That is totally different from when you are inside Canada already and now want to start an application for study permit.

Like I said earlier my 2 cents. (I do not know it all, i also stand corrected, but it is clear on the website link posted)

Jephehe:
A friend of my here in Canada invited his Mom for his graduation ceremony, The mum was in Uk for a short visit because of that she did her biometric in Uk, Visa was approved and passport request, submitted and Stamped in Uk.

If you are in Canada on Visitor Status and you have applied for Study Permit if passport request showed while in Canada you can submit it in Canada.

Another option is when the Visa is Approved you can pick the study permit up in the Land borders.

My wife has change from visitor to Open work permit in Canada land border, I changed my study permit to PGWP in the land border without SOP much documents to convince the Land Border Officers.

Na my case i dey talk oh.

Same here... a valid TRV (visit) before i applied for study permit. I checked all the options and I did not see where it says you can apply for study permit while in Canada.
But what do I know sef...
guzenaira:

I had a TRV (visit) before I applied for studies and @omonoba1981 had the same experience.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Mudicua: 7:06pm On Jun 26, 2019
You cannot apply for a study permit from within Canada if the program is more than 6 months. So there is no need to go this route because he will waste money for travel. Canada is not like the US where you can change status from within the US. For Canada a study permit can only be applied for from outside of Canada.
He should just do his application from naija to save himself the stress.

oriazowan:
My candid advise is for you to enter Canada with the visitor visa and while you are here, gain admission and apply for study permit.
PS: both study permit and visitor visa are referred to TRV (Temporary Residents Visa)
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by Mudicua: 12:51pm On Jun 26, 2019
What do you mean? Please explain better. If it is what I am thinking as in a visitor visa, then yeah you need to apply for a study permit and the process is independent of the TRV you have.

raymege:
Morning House, Please I already have a TRV and intend to apply for a Study Permit,
Please anyone here that has done(applied after a TRV) that or in the process right now?
Also, I think that should make the process faster and easier .

Turkish air is pretty cool and I was actually looking at Turkish air, but the timing... I actually saw sometime in August for 312k to YYZ.
Just the timing....

Bracha:
I'm still seeing 400K to Manitoba from Lagos, on the Ethiopian Airline (EA) app. For EA, the prices on the app are cheaper (I saw this on the Living in Canada thread)

SHARWAMA'S APPROVED VISA TRANSCRIPT.
Date: June 7, 2019
Venue: Lagos Consulate
Time:6:30 a.m
Gender of VO: Male
Window: I Didn't notice, I was blown away by his cuteness and jerry curl grin grin grin
Ok it was the second to last window, before the exit door.
I: (Smiling) Good morning sir
V.O: Good morning, please pass me your passport and your I-20.
I did and he was like "please push your passport a little bit further". I pushed it and asked, "is it okay now sir?"
VO: Yes it is. Why are you going to the US
I: (deep breath + killer smile) To uhm, pursue a masters degree in Biology, Biomedical Science Concentration at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City Tennessee.
V.O: Why this degree?
I: I really want to work as a research scientist at a renowned biomedical research Institute here in Nigeria. Unfortunately, a masters degree in Biology or a closely related field is the minimum requirement for such a position. So this degree would not just help me hone my research skills or build my critical thinking, it would qualify me for the position I really want, when I return.
V.O: So why did you pick this school?
I: (Gesticulating with magical hands) For me, it wasn't just about the generous funding I received, which I am extremely grateful for by the way, it had a lot more to do with the student-faculty relationship I have built with my potential supervisor, professor Burna boy. We Skyped a couple of times and we have chosen a thesis topic I am super excited about.
V.O: What other schools did you apply to?
I: I applied at Texas A&M University, Commerce
VO: uhum(while typing)
I: Cleveland State University Ohio and Kansas State University Manhattan Kansas.
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before?
I: I have not had the need to sir.
VO: Are you married
I: No sir
V.O: You said you have funding, let me see the evidence
I: My school did not give me an official letter but it's on the I-20(I pointed at the document so he looked at it)
V.O: Ok I see $9590 to be payed by someone ,who is this?
I: That's my mum sir
V.O: What does she do?
I: My mum is a business woman, she sells African fabrics and traditional bridal attires
V.O: Yes do you have any proof, I want to see evidence.
I was confused and he mentioned "or bank statement"
I: (Killer smile)Yes, with all pleasure. Just a moment please.
So I got the bank statement
V.O(while looking at the statement) Doesn't your mum have other children to sponsor in school?
I: (I never expected that question, so my English technically failed me, so I looked at him and answered) All of us have finished school, it remainder two of us.
I was so embarrassed about my grammatical blunder but I was glad he understood the point, we were all done with school except two of my siblings.
V.O: Ok, I will be approving your Visa. He hands me the white paper. Talked about pick up in three working days, gave me back my SOA and I-20, asked me to keep it carefully and I would need the latter at the port of entry... Told me to have a wonderful day
I: (Killer smile) Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the day too.
Yup, I bounced out of the building grin
THE END grin grin grin

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
This is one very funny post. So someone will send SOP to you for you to use to apply for visa. What did you use to apply for your admission?
Even if you did not need SOP to gain admission, how do you expect us here to know you well enough to write SOP or LOE for you. Like we know you b
Na wa ooo...
Well I will suggest you do your research. and write your thing yourself, and then ask the experts in here to help you look at it.
My two cents!

Well. I know I paid UNIBEN 2k to respond to the email verification from WES, while UNILAG did not take anything. I believe the school has their price. (Do they know what to do?) maybe you need to find out exactly if they know what they are to do.

AdimGreat:
Please has anyone here done WES verification for ESUT degree transcript?

I'm currently in the process. I was first asked to pay N35,000 for them to send my transcript to WES. And now I'm being asked to pay another N35,000 for them to respond to WES verification email request. This is really crazy and I don't understand why our institutions should be extorting us this way.

Like N35,000 just to respond to an email??

Has anyone experienced this?
