lol... Please do not stress yourself to get a visitor visa to canada and apply for student visa inside Canada. The possibility of being approved is very very low. It is not like in US where you can change your status. Also there is not guarantee your visa will be approved even while studying in the US (/student visa). It happened to me... and a friend I know as well. Good thing was he was still in status and reapplied from US and was granted visa, while I was done with my OPT, and had to go back to Nigeria to reapply which took forever to come, but it came. So think am well. Jus4c: |

Yeah... I think it is okay. Also hold the sponsor's letter of sponsorship too... (to explain or give credence to the SOA you are carrying) But do not fret too much. I do not think you will be asked about money. And if they even ask you, tell them the amount you have on you. Most of them know students do not carry a lot of cash on them while travelling. mzjokky16: |

Just like what @justmellow and @mcobex said, Take some cash with you just for emergencies or food at your layover. I do not think you need to take the whole of your living expenses. You can take an updated SOA to show the amount you have. I was not asked anything like that at the POE though. I had about $2k USD with me. At the entrance of the passenger boarding bridge or tunnel, passengers were asked what there were doing in Canada. My response was study and she asked where and i replied and she said what am i studying and i told her, then she said welcome to Canada, and allowed me to pass. At immigration, not much questions, and no question about cash. Even the dude forgot to put work permit on my Study permit, he had to cancel the first one he made and redo it for me to include work permissions. So take just little cash, and hold SOA. mzjokky16: |

I wish I can help, but I will not lie, I am very busy with school work etc, and i do not really know much about undergrad admissions. I do know it is about same process, just not familiar with the requirements for them. But go to the US thread, I am sure you will find people who can help there. https://www.nairaland.com/5233208/general-usa-student-visa-enquiries-part/179#80591252 Uriel12: |

Sorry about the demise of your dad. with regards to reapplying for 2020, I think you should look at US. There are some really good schools that give scholarship even better than Canada. Also the UK too is another option. For US, make sure you have good GRE scores, and also do an impressive SOP. those 2 combined with your GPA will land you scholarship. I don't know your course of study, but look up Oklahoma State University, University of Nebraska, Oklahoma University, Minnesota State University, Eastern Tennesse State University. These schools give some good funding for grad sudents with impressive package. Good luck. Uriel12: 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Sorry about your refusal @waynee2baba. This was my situation last year while i was in US. I was refused based on those same things. I had to go back to naija July 2018, and I reapplied (with the hopes I will get approved before school starts in September 2018). but no they did not respond. As such I could not start school in fall, lost out on 22k CAD scholarship and almost became depressed. But I did not give up. In the meantime, I deferred my admission, wrote GRE, applied to 4 US schools, got admission into 2 with funding as well, had booked US visa interview before CIC approved my application about 10 months later. Yes!! IT TOOK ALMOST 10 MONTHS TO GET FEEDBACK FROM CIC. Thankfully it was an approval. But even if it was a refusal, I was already set for the US. So yeah, go back to Nigeria. Reapply again if you so wish for Canada. If not look at other options of US, Sweden, Australia or Germany. But yeah go back home... (the decision to stay or leave the UK may make or mar your travel history) This one year will fly by pretty fast. Peace. waynee2baba: 3 Likes |

Obehi, I am sorry to hear about this. Inasmuch as I understand how much you wanna be approved of Visa, I also wish you did not rush this. I totally get it being anxious and trying to correct what we think is lacking in our application, and reapplying again. I know how that is. In all this, did you think to get GCMS note at anytime to at least get a full or better insight on why the refusal? If no, then maybe you should especially for this last one. In my own case, I applied and was denied within 5 weeks, and I requested for GCMS, it did not come on time though, and about a month later after my refusal I reapplied... and my GCMS notes came a week after application. I saw i missed out on some things in my new application, but i kept on hoping it was not a big deal... But there was a key issue on my GCMS note that i noticed, which was my name not being spelt correctly (This may have caused the first refusal) But when my application started taking too long... I became worried and following what I have read here, and advice from some great persons here, I applied for a 2nd GCMS note. While waiting for that note, I followed a friend's advice and updated my info on the webform by doing another LOE (where i explained the discrepancies in my name the previous refusal, and how i am one and same person, and maybe that may have caused issues with background check), attaching new LOA, attaching parents info etc. 2nd GCMS came, nothing much different on why application was being delayed, but it gave insight to where it was and I used that info as well when writing to CIC. Now while you may have done the necessary things to have a banging application, I will think that you should put yourself in the shoes of the VO, especially with regards to the timeline of your application. 1. Within the period of about 6 months you have applied 3 times, which may cause the VO to wonder if you are really honest about ypur travel intentions. 2. You said you wanna leave your 2 year old behind, while this may seem as a good home-ties, but how plausible do you think that is to the VO? Remember these are oyibos, and so put yourself in their shoes, a mom will not want to leave her 2 year old child. However if you do actually leave her back in Nigeria, what are the plans you have put in place for child care? Was that explained in your LOE? Did you show how you will maintain your bond with your child? Did you show that the education you are going for is worth more than the welfare of your child? Inasmuch as these VOs should be objective, many of their decisions can be laced with subjectivity. This is because they are humans and also have experiences which may or may not interfere with their decision making process. My advice... 1. I like that you said you will try other countries, please do so. It is really good and gives you the opportunity to have choices. 2. I also think you should wait awhile, defer your admission, and then try again for fall next year, but try early say from March. 3. Do not give up. I hope you succeed in your endeavours. Meanwhile, at the bolded below... yes oo, we de your back. Good luck. Obehi44: 2 Likes |

Hello everyone, I heard something really interesting today, and i thought to share. This is just a side note, especially with regards to the conversation on reasons for visa refusals. Reciprocity is the major thing here, apart from other factors of eligibilty. One of my professors stated that one reason Canadian Visa is hard to get is based on international relations of countries on visa procedures. Thus reciprocity is at play... Sadly the citizens are the pawns. He narrated that Nigeria, and Brazil are known as countries difficult to get a visa to. The process he said is a mirror of how IRCC treats citizens from these countries. I kinda saw a sense in what he said, given the recent situation with US embassy regarding approved US visa for Nigerians. |

I do not think it is true. Asylum seekers are usually people who cross the border from US. However if this is so, then those using study permit for Asylum are doing so at their peril. Cos once you come into Canada on Asylum basis, you cannot apply for the express entry program or the provincial nominee program which many student can avail themselves of when they are done studying. lol... It is located in Saskatoon... If you wanna share the town exactly. (but it would have just been easier to just say where it was than throwing a rhetorical question) And that is my school.... But why do you wanna show up almost 3 months prior to your start date. As for accommodation, I think it is better you start to search very well now. I was advised to stay in residences (it is said to be cheaper than off campus housing cos of the included utility bills, internet, cable and laundry- though that is also relative cos i know some persons who think staying off campus is better). Good thing is that it is a 10 to 15 min walk to campus. Where have you searched? Check Kijiji too, you might be lucky to get some places. Good luck. abubakarsubuana: |

Congratulations. But why do you wanna leave naija on the 29th of October. That is quite early for spring semester start date for January... and you might be questioned at the POE. (MIGHT). Also which province are you going to? You have to sort your accommodation out oooo. especially given that it is winter months you are coming in. Good luck. abubakarsubuana: |

These are 2 categories of visa, so the advice may not work. The real question is what do you really wanna go do in the US with a B1 or B2? We all know it is a tourist/visitor visa. Is it that you want to use it to give yourself travel history or what? Now given you were denied F1 3 times last year, do you not think it will look suspicious and put a marker on you as an intended immigrant if you now wanna go for a B1/B2? daprince5898: 1 Like |

sharwama: Awwghhh... @sharwama My gurl... do not worry, these things happen. The first days are always crazy and mad, but knowing you, you will survive. I stayed in a hotel the first week I arrived US... It was in January, and it was cold and very hard. I was hungry for naija food like mad, I needed a place to stay, and I really did not know what to do. I had searched for housing prior to coming, but upon arrival I needed some things like co-signor etc to get sorted. I was in a quandry. Omo ehn... that was a crazy first week for me. I eventually got my accommodation sorted thanks to a co-signor who coincidentally was a Nigerian cab-man that took me from school to the hotel one day. A total stranger did that for me... whenever I remember that incident I smile and actually acknowledge that the force is with me. (AND I'M SURE THE FORCE IS WITH YOU TOO) do not mind my shouting... I needed to scream that to you... make you for hear am well well. I remember missing my way on the bus the first couple of times i took the bus. The coat I got from naija... was not strong enough to hold back the cold... same as the boots... and I am not a fan of cold at all... looking back now, I am grateful for such experiences.... I learnt and have grown from it. And I know you will too. 11 Likes |

I beg to differ on this. It is not okay oooo. This is a simple rule, to show original documents at POE. If he does not want trouble, let him just kukuma do the needful. This one is a rule of thumb... original docu, menets must be presented at the POE. I am surprised he was able to do his visa interview without original i20 Brown2Green: |

I think you should write to the embassy, and explain that it has been 30 days and you are yet to get a response from them. You tell them that your school resumes on so so day and that this delay has affected your travel plans. (I do not think you should mention your going to the bank... so as it would not seem you went to influence the bank... these VO and oyibos fit think anything) Inasmuch as this may seem like a broken record, I think it is something worth doing and doing until you get a response. Good luck... and please keep your head up. Sosao: 1 Like |
