tickets are high now...
Even at one way. Paid about 390 on Egypt air on one way and I booked over a month ago. and thats to YYZ, to get to my final destination, another 400CAD. Plus extra fee for luggage (cos once within Canada and your flights are local... you pay for luggage)

Check student universe, expedia, travelstart, tripadvisor...
But this period it is hard to get cheap flights...

I will also suggest you get to YYZ and see how you can fly to Alberta... but no matter how you do it. Omo flights are high this time.. cos summer is rounding up and people are travelling seriously now.
Good luck.

Olayemi360:
Goodday house, what's the best way to get an affordable flight from Nigeria to canada, Alberta specifically. NY final destination is alberta, Grande Prairie but tickets are ridiculously high. Thanks

This your SOP is a no no.
like right from the beginning of the SOP.
1. You do not necessarily need to put an address... it is not a letter.
2. Also the grammer... Oh my goodness... capital letters mid sentence?, disjointed sentences, is and are interchanged...
3. How do you relate graphic art with psychology? Moreover, you further pointed out that Psychology would improve your entrepreneurial skills.. Like how does psychology do this... Do you know what psychology is exactly? It has to do with mental health... and you are talking graphic art, computing etc.

This SOP looks like copy and paste from different SOPs.
It is not clear and does not sell you at all.

And i think this was a major reason for your denial.

Please do your homework... and reapply...

Good luck

smod10:
I applied for Bachelor‭s program and I got denied but I’d really like to reapply.

Here are the reasons the VO gave for denial
I am refusing your application on the following grounds:
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status

I have attached my SOP that also consists of the documents I submitted.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/1D51-UVfaEsIdvIbkkY4eWueO0c2mcwlp/edit?usp=docslist_api&filetype=msword

I will be glad if there are any help. I have another resumption date. January 2020....

This is very insightful.

Thanks for sharing.

Ayoola03:

Student Visa is the stamp.on your passport, study permit will be issued at the POE which serves as a legal document that allows you to study and work part time while TRV is still the same as student visa. All still falls under same category/meaning.

Your spouse will be issued a work permit which will be the same expiry date as your study visa, your spouse can work full time with her permit.

I came in with my spouse too, he landed his dream job 1 month after his arrival, which is a full time position (with work permit status) and we got our PR few months after I started schooling, which reduced my tuition fee from $8000 per term to $2000, he was the PA tho' so your status or your wife's status doesnt stop your from applying for your PR infact it's a plus for you because in most cases, the PR processing time is always faster for people who are already in canada, our application took just 2months. Start your processing immediately you land when you already know you meet the requirements because:

1. Election is coming up in October and there is high probability that the immigration policies might change/become strict which may affect so many people especially those that dont have a Canadian degree and again, the signs can be clearly seen from the recent CRS scores which refused to come down. (We saw this coming that was why we started immediately we landed, when life was still good, we got an ITA with a CRS score of 444).

2. You avoid paying too much for the health insurance coverage for your wife and children unless your wife is able to get a very good job.

3. It will also increase your wife's chances of getting a permanent job easily with a PR status.

If you are planning to come with your family, you will need to increase your SOA based on LICO ( low income cut off) you can check the cic website for further details which also depends on the size of your family. Try to increase the balance to avoid stories that touch.

Other gurus in the house will talk on the areas I left untouched kiss all the best!

Hello everyone.
Please does anyone know or confirm if I would be needing an ETA to enter Canada?
ETA is Electronic Travel Authorization, and I heard it might be needed or requested at POE.

Please your responses will be much appreciated.

APPRECIATION DIARY

Visa approved this morning
Lagos Consulate

Program: MPH

First of all, Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) for making this a success. Honestly, my responses were nowhere near perfect. As a matter of fact, it still feels like a dream.

My mentor, Rasulullah (peace and blessings forever be upon him) taught me, "whoever does not appreciate fellow man, will never be able to appreciate God".

My appreciation goes to the following for being a part of my success story:

@Mudicua
Thanks for reviewing my proposed transcript here. Your suggestions worked in no small measure. I really appreciate. Wish you success in your career.

@Shawarma
Queen of queens. This lady and her humorous sense ehn! I hope you remember this line: I wish you all the best and I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. You were the one pursuing me upandan with your transcript grin
Well, you didn't hurt my feelings in any way. I asked for unalloyed review of my transcript, and you gave just that. I really appreciate because your comments made me return to my drawing table. Wish you success in all your endeavors.

Lastly, but not in anyway the least,
@fairheart
This King of Queen Shawarma... Hmm... I don't even know where or how to start appreciating you. Like it's usually said in my local parlance, "tí mo bá ní kí n ṣe àdúrà, epe má jabọ́".
What a down-to-earth man you are! I really appreciate your efforts and words of encouragement. May you continue to soar higher and higher in life. Thank you a trillion times.

Finally, my NL people. Thanks for everything. Your comments, answers to questions, etc have really been helpful. May we all continue to break grounds in our future endeavors!

To those with upcoming interviews, I wish you a seamless experience with positive outcome.

Will drop my transcript once I get my passport.

Cheers!

fairheart:
The F1 approval rate will remain higher and steady until the new change come into effect. The number of B1/B2 visa the embassy issue has been slashed significantly due to Nigerians who abuse this visa. I am suspecting the US still want to maintain their overall target, hence, F1 visa rate will increase...at least, for now.
If you have been refused, learn the lesson and pursue again. A few days ago, we saw someone who got it at 6th attempt. You have been refused once or twice, and you're saying life is hard and unfair. You no know before?

For prospects, get your things right!
I continue to say it, avoid community colleges if you're looking at studying your first degree in the US. For people aspiring for advanced knowledge in their desire field, do go for Masters or Phd. Second degree is not advisable. Having another MS is great!

You will not achieve much in this life if you're not focus and willing to pay the price required for academic and career advancement. Not just the monetary aspect of the price but in terms of effort, quality time, and confidence you're willing to invest. If going to the US matters to you, focus on that and do it timely. I am now advising, it is not a crime to try top universities in the US. Na students wey get head like you dey go there. But don't let top schools gets into your head. It doesn't guarantee your success in life. I speak to the wise only!

You cannot succeed in life if you think you sabi it all. I have seen students with vain pride and ego on this forum. They don't know, but they will not ask questions. Once they mess up the application, they would then start asking useless questions. You dey do yourself!
What you don't know cannot help you; but what you know is useful only when you use it. Again, I speak to the wise only. If you don't understand something, ask questions.

The reason Oluwaseun Osewa created Nairaland is not because he wanted to make money, although that's part of the plan; the underlying reason is because he wanted Nigerians to share information in a way that would make two heads better than one. Have a partner in this journey; make a brother; make a sister, and make a friend. I call these people, a partner in F1 adventure. ASK QUESTIONs, but intelligent and reasonable questions.

Spring Prospects, start your application now. Carpe diem.
God bless!

Exactly.
This was my experience. I updated my application with new information, such as death certificate of my father and mom's decalration of age.

I think you can always update with new info which you did not submit before as well as update old info previously submitted.

I requested GCMS notes after my application was taking too long, and when it came and I did not really find much info, but i followed Austacus advice, and I did another LOE based on the first GCMS note and the new one, and tried to explain as much as i could, and i sent it via webform and email.

It was acknowledged, and even acted on.
Soon I will share my experience here.

JustMellow:

Based on what is stated on the site, you're right, but based on practical facts, countless numbers of applicants have successfully without any restraint of somewhat have sent additional documents prior after submission via email or webform. It was always acknowleded by the VAC.

Sis... two people can sponsor.
all you need is to show their documents.
I am speaking from experience, and there are also enough testimonies on this thread to that effect.

jessyeve:
With all due respect, I'm not advocating for agents, i only asked someone to get professional help if he doesn't want to risk it, I ddnt refer anyone in particular, all I have been trying to do here is to give my sincere help...... What I meant by no co-sponsor is that two people can't sponsor, i Said that because I haven't seen anyone so far giving testimony with two sponsors, if I read well, she said elder brother and hubby will sponsor, I said choose one and the other should pay into ur account as his support then u mention it and show his source..... If some of u ain't so eager to attack, u would have seen we all saying the same thing or u would have asked and be clarified, stop hating on who u don't even no, I say things bluntly and that's how I prefer to receive it, don't have time to start massaging the truth but if u think u don't want me here, feel free to do ur mind, I personally don't believe anyone on earth is holding key to anyone success, thanks.

Saginaw Valley state?

Never heard of that before. US and plenty plenty schools sha... grin
Okay first of all... using agents can be tricky especially when you are not in the know abput what they are doing for you.
Most of them are after their money... and only money. nothing else.

Well now we know that, lets get to the part about your background. You have a B.Sc in Biochemistry, what is that doing in relation to MBA...(yeah i get the part about concentration in health care admin, but I feel the tie was not convincing to the VO).
Then see how the VO stated you should be doing science.. given your current job duty.

My question for you is, what do you really wanna do? like really do? Cos therein lies your answer. If you really want to go study abroad, chose a course you are really passionate about... that always comes through for you when you are talking witht he VO.

Well now you have found this thread and awesome persons to help grin.
Do not worry, You will be fine.

If you are still within the stipulated processing time on the website, your mail will not be answered or responded to on the webform. And last time i checked, processing time was still 9 weeks.
Be patient, After 9 weeks, you can now start emailling them.

Pachie:
Good morning everyone, I am new here. A friend recently introduced me to this thread. I have a quick question, and sorry if it has been asked before.
I applied through the paper route on may 15th 2019, but linked it online June 13th. When I did, I saw that my background check and eligibility review were both running concurrently, and since then I haven't received any update.
I sent a web form last Tuesday, but didn't get any reply not even an email to acknowledge that they got the web form. This is the 8th week BTW.
Now my question is this, is it advisable to send them an email? Has anyone been in this situation and got a positive reply by sending an email? Or should I send another web form?
Thanks

Hi.
These are my observations:

The sentences in bold are same.

The sentence in blue can read better as "the school provides a well structured curriculum which aligns with my career goals to be......It also gives me the opportunity to work as a research assistant to Dr. xxxx whose ongoing research is xxxxxx and directly aligns with my research area of interest."

royalway001:
Hello House, please help me scrutinize my proposed transcript

Hi. I skimmed through your transcript...
And these were some of the things I think you should work on.

• Why are you going to the US?
==>I’M GOING TO THE U.S FOR MY MASTER’S DEGREE IN STATISTICS (with a specialization in business analysis)

• What will you specialize in for your degree?
==>BUSNINESS ANAYSIS (no need for this)

• What will be your major?
==>STATISTICS (no need for this)

• Who is your current employer? What do you do?
==>I CURRENTLY WORK with U.B.A AS JUNIOR DATA ANALYST; I INTERPRETE DATA WITH DATA VISUALIZATION USING VARIOUS TOOLS LIKE EXCEL, POWERBI, TABLEAU AND GIVE REPORTS FOR DECISION MAKING.(Big big grammer… yes it is good to speak the language of your career, but it can be jargon to the VO)

• Can you not continue your education in your home country? WHY U.S?
==>THE UNITED STATES IS KNOWN TO BE THE TOP COUNTRY IN TECHNOLOGY AND DATA (data what?), BIG TECH COMPANIES LIKE GOOGLE, FACEBOOK AND MICROSOFT RELIES HEAVILY ON DATA. As such studying this course in US will expose me to advanced skills in data analysis. THESE MAKE STUDYING THIS COURSE IN THE U.S AHEAD OF ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, I WOULD BE EXPOSED TO MORE ADVANCE SKILLS IN DATA analysis AND I WOULD BE HAVING AN INTERNSHIP DURING MY PROGRAM, WHICH WOULD ALSO GIVE ME OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE SOME HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE. (no need for these )

• How will you meet these expenses?
==>I've been promised a ga upon my arrival once the vacancy is open and my mother and uncle will foot the bill till I get the GA (this is a no no… do not say you have been promised a GA position to fund your expenses in US, cos if no GA position what happens?)

There were also a lot of repetitions in the transcript and as such made it hard to follow and read.
But I think you should go through it again, streamline it down, using the pieces of advise given by others on this thread.

This is my proposed transcript, please help a brother out, interview is on Monday ejor ooo.
Any form of correction or abuse is highly needed lol ( PS pardon my grammatical semantics, they're not good enough and possibly typographical errors as well ) plus any form of mock interview will be highly appreciated. Please I'm begging ni oo.

Hi Obehi,
I do not wish to dampen your hopes, or that of those who asked similar question, but going by the recent trend of what we have seen or read on this platform, BVL before medicals (whether upfront or requested) has mostly been a denial.
Again... like i said mostly, so there may be exceptions to the general situation.
I think you just have to wait for what is next from CIC, cos we do not know until we see.

Obehi44:
I have asked this question and I can see a couple of moniker asking same but no response from anyone yet. Those of you who are already in Canada or already got your approval, is there anyone who had ever gotten a BVL without medical passed or request and still got the medical passed or request msg? And got approved?
@Jadezion
@Chinma13
@AA07 and myself all got BVL today or so and will like to know.
Anyway, Na God get power Las las....

I have not posted here in a very long time. I got frustrated about this whole Canada visa thing and was trying to focus my energy on other things.
But finally, after almost 12months of waiting, approval notice and passport request just dropped.

I know I must come declare here and thank the good people here for all the assistance ad information I received during the long wait. I cannot mention names, but thanks to everyone here for the good work you do. The good Lord shall bless us all with approval notice and passport request smiley

Online application - August 03, 2018
Biometric request - September 04, 2018
Submitted Biometric in Lagos - September 05, 2018

Eligibility review started - May 2, 2019 (after I applied for my GCMS notes and several emails)

It will show approved when your passport has been stamped.
My advise, be patient, and as long as your details submitted especially bank information is correct, it will come.
Focus on your work and put more positive energy on the passport coming back as soon as possible.

Now the issue of 3-5 business days may also be iffy.
I do not know where you submitted your passport, but the VFS in Lagos says 10 to 15 business days.

Thank you for your response. But my question is that my cic is still showing submitted, it's not showing approved yet.

That amount is the passport processing fee you are required to pay. However it is meant for those who did not do their biometrics with VFS.

I got to find this out when I went to submit my passport.
The VFS people were shocked my application was July 2018. I did not take the slip to show I did biometrics there... cos I did not even remember where I kept it. They insisted I have to pay the fee, but I insisted I need to see the manager, and then I explained to the manager, though initially he was forming busy and not wanting to help, I kept insisting I did my biometrics there and to find a way to check.
While we were going back and forth on the matter, I no gree oooo cheesy cheesy cheesy
He said something about if i got a notification from them to check it. Then I remembered I got, and had to check my email... and thankfully I saw the email from VFS. I wrote out the number and gave to him, and that was how I ended up not paying the fee for passport processing.

For those yet to get PPR, when submitting passport after your PPR request, please do not forget to take the biometrics slips given when you do biometrics.

Shadypoza01:
No idea but i think its for applicants who did biometrics from either July or November 2018 (not yet certain abt it tho)
