Done severally, scout team ended up being ambushed themselves, without the troop behind them, its a suicide mission, except when they have the training to operate behind enemy lines, in that case you are requesting a special forces deployment on a road like Maiduguri-Monguno or Maiduguri-Damboa? do you have any idea how long they are? how many men it will take?
That's like a WW1 strategy, modern warfare requires eyes in the sky then a quick reaction force to neutralize.
Your suggestion will return more body bags.
Having special forces operating behind enemy lines is risky, but might work out.
If they can blend well with the terrain and supposedly there are no saboteurs that'll give intel to the enemies, this might work.
The idea behind this is just gathering Intel and reducing rate of ambush.
My theory is that BHT send maybe a 2-3 man to set out these IED before converging to execute an attack.
They use several bunkers as sleeper cell hence the reason why they're quick to disperse whenever they're on pursuit.
If it's a 2-5 man team planting the IED, the soldiers should be able to take care of them without stress.
They'll need to be discreet about it using supressors, NVG (if required especially at night), scope etc.
We can also have a dedicated air support on standby 24/7 close to base should in case they'll need help
Note: this is just a short term fix pending when we can have eyes in the sky 24/7

Lemme keep quiet in the Northeast as regards to kids from Soldiers cheesy
Lol, it seems like a normal thing from soldiers all over d world. It takes one to have a strong self discipline to refrain from such acts.
It's not wrong if you fall in love with a woman during your posting if you're yet to get married, but it shouldn't be everywhere na.

grin grin grin When I finished my secondary studies in a Military school, I told my Dad I want to enlist into the armed forces. He vehemently refused that I so held that grudge until I relocated to Borno state. Previously when I attend military wedding I was always feeling so bitter why I did not go against my Dad's directives. You know how military wedding sweet na grin. All those swords stuff grin

But since I relocated to Borno I immediately
Sent a 21 yr old Glenfiddich to my Dad

Many dudes in the Nigeria armed forces got no business there as they will find it so hard to adjust to the Frontline lifestyle for the reasons below grin

1) Most Generals just enlist their kids in the military to Maintain the status quo

2) Some NCOs joined the military due to lack of jobs in Nigeria. Many don't have the heart for it.

3) The Military is a Regimental job. Anyone who is enlisting should understand this.

The last attack in Monguno from anonymous sources, ISWAP carried out an intelligence monitoring and discovered that Soldiers mounting the entrance checkpoints in Monguno barely stay at their checkpoints during Mid-day. The CO visits the outposts from 4pm downwards of which most Soldiers would definitely return before he visits.

When ISWAP struck at 11am of which more than half of the soldiers stationed at this checkpoints have gone for their usual merriment to Gidan Martha and GF's houses. Tho I heard those that were unavailable are chilling in the guard room till date cool

When enlisting into the Army, kindly ask yourself these questions:

Can I stay without sex for a year?

Can I stay in a location for a year without seeing my loved ones?

Can I spend a year sleeping on a tiny mattress or mat in a zinc or thatch house close to my trench for a year?

Do I have the mental capability to exchange gunfire weekly for a year without going psychological? Like Soldiers in Rann, Kala Balge engaging weekly.
Most soldiers I know don't care about, they always have gf wherever they're posted. That's why some of them have children from different mothers. Even in Abuja here, they're always "hunting" for babes. grin

I have an idea, but it might be wrong so I need your inputs.
Recently our troops have faced ambush whenever they're on patrol or coming back from a mission. I think the risk can be reduced by setting out a 5 man cell with a sniper fixed at strategic points along the road. This guys blend in well with the terrain and can get real time info on movement of hostile and also reduce ambush to a considerable amount. This guys are also in charge or getting real time info on movement of BHT hence FOBs would be notified before they come close to town.
These guys can be rotated let's say daily.
I don't know Borno, but let's say Maid-Damboa is 50km, we can get a cell positioned at strategic locations every 10km or 5km.
Since we don't have drone that can loiter 24/7 and even if we do, that'll be loads of info to go through daily, we can use this method.
This would require some kits let's say NVG, scope and some basic stuffs like that.
We can manage this pending when we can get enough drones and good mraps.
NB: sometimes IED still take out MRAPs

THAT WASN'T A DEFEAT. READ THE BOOK AND DON'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS BASED ON MOVIES

BESIDES, BOTH DELTA TEAM MEMBERS WHO WERE KILLED WAS AS A RESULT OF BRAVERY. THEY CHOOSE TO HOLD THEIR POSITION TO ENSURE THE EVAC OF A DEAD PILOT. THEY WERE BOTH AWARDED THE MEDAL OF HONOR FOR THEIR ACTIONS BY THE BILL CLINTON ADMINISTRATIONS

READ BRO
Well, I was talking from the movie stand point and not the author's perspective of what transpired there.

If you want some action and situational awareness of how an ambush looks like in an enemy territory, go and watch Black Hawk Down. Those Somalis no get joy, almost finished Delta forces and Rangers that day, brought down 2 black hawk choppers.
One of the worst defeat American soldiers faced coz they were completely in defensive position.

I know...the numbers thing can be curbed if the FG/NA mounts a daring offensive on different fronts to just crush them once and for all....that's if they invest money in the right weaponry sha

The best form of defence is attack you know
Simply art of war sir.
In my opinion, I think some people in power and influential position don't want this war to end.

But bros, a ragtag group of insurgents shouldn't hold the mighty NA (with a long history of gallantry) to ransom like that....we should be on the attack and they defend....na so e suppose be na...
BH are not fighting conventional warfare with NA. They employ guerrilla tactics and occasionally use advantage of large numbers against small troops
Check out Vietnam war, communist vs nationalist in China, Cuba etc. Guerrilla army are just annoying and sometimes difficult to fight.

Honestly, the implementation of the super camp strategy has improved alot of things especially base defence setup. Hescos are now a common site in bases in theatre of operations even now excavators are used to dig trenches unlike when soldiers dug same with shovels.
It's a gradual process the HESCOs are very expensive nevertheless most of these things are already being implemented/used.
This isn't bad.
Let's just get our shit together and take the offensive position on these guy (JAS & ISWAP) instead of always repelling.
We can only win this war when we start to implement the right tactics and approach this war the war it is.

Ok, that's better.
I just feel sorry for our troops each time there's an attack.
NA can do better to provide MRAPs and IFV as standard vehicles for patrols instead of of light skin hilux.
The constant loss of lives due to corruption by the top brass weakens the morale of soldiers that face the brunt of war daily.

grin at a time person gast use sense for some kind things. Nigerian army dey call am tactical withdrawal grin e get why. Guy man(Capt Broward) will live to wear starched Khaki to "ShopRite" and impress babes while those one wey dey form gallant will go home in body bags. The irony of everything is that na the type of Broward they narrate to outsiders how them fight gallantly and came out as the only survivors.
That movie explains what some of our soldiers go through in their post.
I still don't know why NA isn't taking advantage of elevation by using hescos but rather still using WW1 tactics of building trenches.
Sir, any input on this?
