All these Awoniyi talks because he scored today...his first goal in months.

He has had his chances with the eagles, and we have seen what he can offer. Dude can't be relied on, but congrats to him for scoring today.
Football is hard. I know. But if we are honest some players don't just have the luck to be SE player. See this Awoniyi, I don't think he has luck. Anytime he plays, he feels out of place one kind. I don't know if I'm wrong but that is the sense I get.

Another player that luck is pushing him time after time into the team is Dessers yet something else is working to push him out.

Are you saying fifa should ignore Congo's constitution or national laws if there are concerns?
Maybe Congo's sport ministry or whoever in charge of sport used backdoor to get those players Congolese passports.

Stop confusing yourself, your assertion is that Congo called up ineligible players whereas their parents are Congolese and as such eligible under FIFA rules and got approval from FIFA to switch.

The Brazilians Togo called up on the other hand, had no Togolese parentage and didn't meet the residence requirements even though they held the passports, hence the problem
Is this deliberate? As in misunderstanding or obsfucating the issue? Omo. Wetin dey happen.

The issue is that by Congolese laws if you are a dual citizen, you are not regarded as a citizen of Congo. That's the crux of the matter.

You make it seem as if Congo gave people with Congolese parentage citizenship and Nigeria is protesting against that. Nooo.

Congo made the law on dual citizenship. We are judging them by their own law.

Yes, but to FIFA you need to have a clear connection to the country to represent them.

If you don't qualify through birth or ancestry then the other option is through residence which for most footballers is through playing professionally in the respective leagues.

The French and German players in your reference were still largely from immigrant families and born there.

Unless Qatar and those Arab nations will be signing 17 year olds to their leagues and giving them passports at 22, it won't work.
Nothing is impossible with a plan.

My reference to France and Germany is not in reference to the children of immigrants in their team (an idea I have come to detest) but to the fact that countries set out long term plans to win the WC.

That's the benefit of representing an African country, Nigeria in this case.
If he was a foreign born that choose maybe England over Nigeria and with his Stats before the AFCON, there was no way he would have been invited. Even when you are not doing well in your club, Nigeria NT will always gives you opportunities to reinvent your career.
If a player like Tomori had chosen Nigeria, by now he would have still been a starter in the SE and such would have helped boast his club career
Pikin wey him mama love, dey always get confidence.

That's why Okoye is shaky shaky when he plays for us. He doesn't feel the support of the fans. When a player feels the support of the fans, it's a great booster.

Yes but then they need to meet the 5 year residence requirement according to FIFA rules.

The Malaysia case didn't affect Ezequel Sergio Aguero and Endrick dos Santos Parafita (you can Google their names) who were both born in Argentina and Brazil respectively, who have Malaysian passports and currently play for Malaysia.
Residence permit is permit. It does not mean I must reside in your country for five years at a stretch. Such laws can easily be satisfied. Countries plan to win world cup ten years before they win it.

France did it through the establishment of INF Clairefontaine in 1988 and won the world cup in 1998. Germany set off their own plan in 2006 and won the WC in 2014.

Therefore such rich countries like Qatar can set out such a plan that involves integrating players from other countries into their national team not necessarily to even win the WC but even to compete very well.

You talk about me discrediting Eric Chelle, i responded by showing you a post where I highlighted the positives about him. If i can talk about Eric Chelles positives, I also retain the position to talk about his not good parts.

You talked about me discrediting the team (an unfounded and completely false position). I dare you with your conscience (if you have one) to point out a single instance where I talked down on the Super Eagles brand or players. My criticisms always border on player deployments and never on the player. I have stood against people that have talked down on our players calling them average.

What is wrong in positing that our players deserve the best hand.

I was the one who first pointed out Eric Chelle's overreliance on his fullbacks and that is a testament to how sound my interpretation of the game is. My insights are undeniably sound and many of you know it. I studied Eric Chelle's game tactics as every other analyst will do, now the big question that should come is, how will a coach respond when his game pattern has been figured out, what are his other plans.

I criticised the deployment of Raphael Onyedika in a position that has better fits. My stand took validity when Onyedika started losing especially his aerial duels.

I see no wrong criticising a coach that did not convince me.

You will have the same thing to say about me regarding my stand on Austin Eguavoen even after he won all his matches at the group stage of the last AFCON that he oversaw.

It is my love for the Super Eagles brand that engenders me to insist that the Super Eagles deserve nothing but the best.
You see how narrow your thinking is. In your mind now the coach is a robot who does not think, does not reflect. From your point of view, he's learnt nothing. Na you wey dey house sabi everything pass the coach.

What irks many of us about you is not your criticism. It's the fact that it's all supposition and its wearisome given that you have not so much as coached a group of kids.

We went as far as the final in Afcon 23. Peseiro made mistakes and I am certain he learnt from it. What did we do? We let him go. All the lessons he learned, gone. Afterwards chaos ensued leading directly to our not qualifying for the WC.

Yet here you are, a lover of SE sneakily calling for Chelle to be sacked (the man's contract is intact till Jan 27!). You say he should move on. But clearly the man is still interested in the job. So what's the other option if not to sack him. And then we go through the same circle of chaos. Please before putting out ideas, think about the full ramifications. Rohr for all his jaga jaga football, had a five year stint. Giving Chelle some time won't be bad. He's just clocked one year. And definitely there are many areas he needs to improve both in terms of personnel, personnel deployment and tactics.

So it's not about your criticism because you have gone beyond mere criticism and you are suggesting outright sack.

You just dey play with words. Grasp analogies please. You are making the point that the fact that DRC issued them passport certifies their citizenship against all rebuttals. And I'm telling you that legally speaking it's not so.

I gave an analogy to say going by your argument the same thing would apply to proof anything just because a document - whatever the name, passport oo, certificate oo is given.

It's not about age. It's about prove. I can as well say draw the same analogy in respect of land, driver's license, birth certificate.

A document is prima facie evidence but once it is challenged, you have to provide more evidence. Abeg oo.

DR Congo issued passports to those players because their parents are Congolese, I wonder where Qatar and Bahrain will get South Americans with parents with Qatari and Bahrain origin.
Citizenship is based not only on blood but on naturalization. So yes if Qatar has such laws and I think they do, then nothing stops them from giving citizenship to people and constituting them into a team.

The onus is on Congo to prove that it gave the players a special dispensation. And there's none. Passport cannot override law.

you get point sha. The question is are the players citizens of Congo DR? Is rt a oof that the government of Congo DR gave them special, potentially irregular, citizenship status?
Fix your eye on this: dual nationality = no nationality under Congolese law. How does issuance of a passport cure that?

The question you should be asking is: are those players dual citizens?

Your take is just like when the country is bad and we decide to go and protest , you now say "what if they shoot us". Then the situation remains the same or gets worse eventually. You won't improve anything with this mindset.

Won't you be happy with the football that we could have played knowing that we created chances to score and still lost the match. Let's just hope we don't find ourselves in this situation again.
You have never coached even a kindergarten team. Please be humble in stating your views. Nothing is guaranteed in football. Chelle might have done what you proposed and we'd have lost.

This! One criteria I always use to rate coaches apart from success in winning trophies is much have players improved under you.

I'm flexible on the playing identity part as long as you're winning but your value as a coach should reflect on how much your players have improved under your tutelage.

Under Eric I've seen Bruno, Ajayi, and Osayi upgrade their game massively. Iwobi finally manifest what his game is about and how that will improve the team. Ndidi evolve from a tackle and side way pass merchant to a fairly decent CDM who helps initiate attack and retain possession.

Because of Eric I've not totally given up on Chukwueze. Chelle plays Samuel often so maybe he sees something I don't.

j
I used to panic whenever I see Bright and to some extent Ajayi in the defense. Not anymore. They were so solid that my mind is now at peace. Even if subsequently I see them have a bad game, I have seen what they are capable of, how solid and defensively tight and rugged they can be.

There is no formation without weaknesses. There is no system that cannot be countered. Relying on wing forwards also means weakening the midfield and progressing the ball mostly through the wings which concedes the middle game to the opponents.

Also, this thing you've been going on about bringing in wing-forwards like it's one big bright tactical adjustment, Eric Chelle did it. He brought in Moses Simon on the left wing to shore it up and support Bruno due to the way Hakimi and Diaz were double-teaming on him.

In all your criticism of Eric Chelle for the Morocco game, you have never acknowledged the biased officiating. The Moroccans foul-baited the referee for the entire 120 mins duration of our game, and he fell for it every time. He gave them soft fouls but turned a blind eye to the blatant fouls they committed against us, and even refused to card them, and this impeded us from playing our game.

By the way, do you know what winning the Bronze medal in the AFCON means for Eric Chelle, the coach you're not convinced with? The implicit implication of that finish is that Eric Chelle was the third best coach out of the 24 that participated in the competition, and on the African continent.

Also, given a choice between Walid Regragui and Eric Chelle, I will pick Chelle from a tactical standpoint. The former's team huffed and puffed throughout the competition and were never convincing even in victory despite the officiating-help and home support, and that's the reason many Moroccans are calling for his sack.

Eric Chelle on the other hand gave the Super Eagles a playing identity. A press from front playing style that chokes the opponents, does not allow them time on the ball and results in lots of turnovers and dominant possession In addition, he brought new nicks to our game by moving the ball through the middle, and not the wings like we're used to playing.

The Super Eagles played with fluidity and almost psychic understanding. Another often underappreciated but important mark of good coach which Eric Chelle exhibited in this AFCON but does not get enough credit for is the personal improvement he brought on the players. Bruno, Osayi, Bassey, Ajayi, Ndidi, Iwobi and Onyeka raised their games and were all unplayable this AFCON. That's what Eric Chelle has brought to the team. Is that the coach who has not convinced you?

It's almost like you're on a paid "agenda" to discredit the coach and the team because your stance fails by every objective metric. Lest I forget, I asked you to suggest a good and convincing 50k/month coach for the Super Eagles but since then na radio silence. I still dey wait....
Meliforme is a very good coach, in fact the best coach on Nairaland but all his coaching happens in his head. And it's always fantastic and his team always wins and it's Ejuke who scores all the goals 😂😂

What did the Senegalese do differently ? They contained both full backs using both their wingers and their full backs. The game is such that both sides would create chances to score, the team that takes theirs wins the game. It is for us to create more chances than our opponents. It doesn't matter if it is Morocco or any other team.
If he had done this and Morocco had scored, I'm sure you'd be the first person to suggest some other option that he could have done. The man at home watching always knows better than the coach no matter what the coach does.
