Family / Re: How Can I Do My Wedding With 500k by MumoftheDecade: 10:09pm On May 07, 2020
The truth is that everybody has to cut their coat according to their cloth. A person can even get married with 50,000 naira if they want to. Yes. If that’s what they can afford and if their status will allow them. Everybody is not on the same status in life. Your 50k wedding is another person’s 1.5m low budget wedding. Someone was saying 500 thousand will be spent on her outfit and some of you are screaming. American wonder!
I got married November last year. Hubby didn’t have so much at the time. We managed to put everything together and cut down on so many things. Total cost was still over two million, and I know how hard that was. It wasn’t the kind of wedding I would have loved to have. But e don pass, e don pass. Traditional rite was even in the village, but we still spent over 2m.
If your condition is not very critical, why would you want to have a wedding that will make people pity you? Or that will make you a laughing stock. If you have money, and you still want to do a wedding within a budget, you must still look good, and buy quality things, and it won’t be 500k o! At all at all.
Maybe most of you have not planned a wedding before, or your tastes are just average.
A man that wants to get married must be ready to foot the bulk of the expenses. If his wife-to-be has she’ll contribute by herself.

@MumoftheDecade, I pray you do oo, but if it shows, just know that's part of the package of first trimester, and soon when you get to the second trimester, you enter the enjoyment stage.

It may sound far-fetched, but eating beans can actually help greatly alleviate morning sickness!
it has been found that if a pregnant woman eats beans while suffering from morning sickness the high fiber content of the beans binds to the extra bile and removes it from the system, causing her to be less nauseous or even not nauseous at all

This worked for me in first trimester as I was greatly relieved of the vomiting saga.

PS: please Try to eat in bits. also note that you can also eat food made from beans like moi moi, akara, gbegiri, Okpa etc.

Okpa and gbegiri was my favourite then.. lol

Thank God I already love beans, and all its variations. cheesy

Thanks for the hack.

Big congratulations Momma.
so happy to hear this.

Nice one, you are good with Pregnacare, and yes SIL is correct. you need more Folic acid. For we in this part of the world daily requirement in oyinbo standard is not enough due to our diets and lifestyles.
in all my pregnancies, my oby&gyn always top my pregnacare just as your SIL advised.

No antenatal till you pass 12weeks....
no self medication please... not even natural 100% natural.... you are carrying a delicate Person.

I pray you dodge morning sickness Momma...
Am hear if you need me.

cheers...
stay safe.

Thanks a bunch. No self-medicating. These days, I google almost everything to know if it's safe for consumption during pregnancy before using. cheesy

I pray I dodge MS, too.... cry

BA is birth announcement. You got the rest.
Braxton Hicks is a kind of tightening felt by pregnant women but is not contraction.just preparing you for the real thing(labour).
Then for the cappo thing, every team comprises of women whose edd falls within a particular month...you can select an active member to help collate the monickers(names) of those in the same team with you.So you can always check on your team mates..lol

Okay. Very well understood. Thanks. kiss

400mcg is the recommended dose as found in pregnacare and it is more than enough. Women who are at higher risk of having a baby with neural tube defect especially those who have a family history of neural tube defects are the ones required to take a higher dosage. Although there are no side effects of taking the 5mg dosage for those at low risk, the dosage is actually just a waste.

And please, if you must get the 5mg folic acid, don't mix it with pregnacare. In my opinion, I will suggest u just stick with ur pregnacare or exhaust the 30 days pregnacare dosage and get folic acid separately and other drugs to complete ur recommended need of vitamins.

Okay. This is insightful. Thanks.

It’s too early for antenatal. Pregnacare original is good if your system tolerates it well. You have nothing to worry about till about 12weeks except you feel sick

Great. Thanks.

bfp means big fat positive i.e a positive pregnancy result

Thanks. And these other acronyms?

DH ... Dear Hubby
BS... Birth Story
BA... Baby Alert

And what's the cappo thing about? What's Braxton Hicks?

I just guessed the meanings.

Congratulations to all mamas that have given birth. Your joy will know no end.... Loves and kisses to them little cuties.

Abeg August mamas how are we doing..... Hope baby is kicking very well and you have started shopping? No I haven't shop o grin. But come to think of it, one has to be minimal in spending this time o, the Coro issue is causing a lot of things and the news headline these days ain't really nice, Nigeria might stop production of oil and according to WHO, covid 19 might stay for a long time (but God has the final say) wish there could be an e seminar to discuss this for pregnant women and new mums. Just saying. lipsrsealed

Exactly. There should be an E-forum of sorts for pregnant women... where they can discuss with healthcare professionals. That was how I found this thread, actually. I just needed to get information from preggy buddies...

Just get folic acid with the red cover and use one per day coupled with one pregnancy care per day. You are good to go. Antenatal start at 3months if you don't have any complains

Great. Thanks. Hopefully, in three months time, this COVID-19 thing will be all history.

The ultrasound part is not true. Pregnancy ultrasound doesn't use rays. Ultrasound sends sound waves through your womb (uterus), which bounce off your baby's body.

The echoes are turned into an image on a screen, so your sonographer can see your baby’s position and movements.

So you can do your scan as much as you like, I currently do my scan every 2 weeks but I've reduced because of the Coro issue in town. I know someone that did hers every week then because it was just 500 naira at her town (years back)

Ohh, I see. Very well, then. It's 3k to 4k in my vicinity.

Wow, congrats, my EDD is December 30th, my calculation and baby centre says I am also 5 weeks gone.. I think it is too early for antenatal (my opinion), I actually went for a scan last week and to FMC umuahia but when the scan ( yes I have a problem with scans, I do scan almost 20times before delivery) said they can't detect any sac yet I decided to go home and wait, besides it is truly scary now going to a hospital because coro isn't written on the face,

Congratulations to you, too, dear.

Yes. At the hospital where I did the scan, I was actually told to come register for antenatal in 3 months' time. So I guess there's nothing to worry about for now.

You may want to reduce your frequency of scans, though. I hear the rays aren't exactly healthy.

I'm happy to know I have a preggy buddy! cheesy

Pregnacare is okay but I don't think the 400mcg is sufficient for pregnancy, esp during the first trimester as that is when baby needs more folic acid. The required dosage of folic acid during pregnancy should be 5mg and that's what my hospital gives me.
Mommas that used or are using Pregnacare should give more insight pls.

Thanks a lot for your response.
I should get folic acid, then. Does it come in a specific dosage?

What should can I do? She's hell bent on attempting another abortion. I don't really think I can convince her to stay till 20weeks cuz by then the pregnancy will be too mature that weather deformed or not, she'll have to put to bed like that....
I need answers pls

Why is she so insistent on an abortion, though?
Doesn't she care for her life and future fertility?
It's just one baby. She should have it, jare.

Good morning. #TeamSeptember. Well there's something we really need to clarify in this family. No doubt, there's so much conflicting literature and comments on the internet space on the use of Pregnacare/Obron6 and/or B-complex, Folic Acid, Calcium, Ferous et al. Now, the crocs of the matter is, last pregnancy, we didn't take pregnacare at all. All we used was Folic Acid, Calcium, Ferous. But now we're using Pregnacare but combine it with Folic Acid once a day, and Ferous once a day. Now we're adding Calcium also once a day and B-complex once a day. I honestly hope this isn't trying too much but we are doing this because i think you can't get too much of these things.

Secondly, is it compulsory to treat malaria at least twice during pregnancy even if you don't have malaria? Last time out, we did get malaria treatment twice. So if this is very important, at what stages would treatment be recommended and what is the best recommended malaria med.

Thanks.

I read somewhere in the initial part of this thread that the proper thing is to take preventive malaria drugs every 4 weeks, from the second trimester.

Not twice throughout the pregnancy... every 4 weeks.

Hello everyone, I was team September in 2017 and now I am team December 2020. Who else realises they are pregnant even before a missed period?

I did. I knew I was pregnant from the very moment of conception! grin

I'm 5weeks gone.

P.S. I need clarifications on some things. I'm yet to start antenatal as I think hospitals are unsafe at this time. So, please, I need advice and instructions on how to cope without antenatal... what are the things I can do for and by myself. Hubby already got me pregnacare original. Do I need any more than that? Sister-in-law said I could get more folic acid, but pregnacare already contains 400mcg of folic acid, which I understand to be the exact daily requirement.
For now, I'm not exhibiting any annoying symptoms except peeing a lot more frequently and my breasts being fuller.

This is my first pregnancy ever and I'm super excited. EDD is Dec 22nd.
