He was reading the thread. He knew the right thing. Did the opposite and now comes on here for us to do the Naija thing and say eyaaaaa, now he has learnt. And then start looking for cut and join roads to refer him to.
You see people complaining about the state of the country yet we keep on going with the flow.
If the guy was joking, I can't even relate to the humour.
Can't relate to the humour too. So disheartening. Comes accross as being very proud of d misrepresentation.

My dear, the whole thing is fishy jor! She's saying it's an agent that did it for her but you will send docs and money to her shocked

The whole presentation came across as a DIY to me cos I knw immigration is now encouraging DIY. I processed my son's passport by myself online even tho' they still took their 'commitment fee'...lol. I no cum sabi which one be dat again but passport was ready in 3days. Did all the online application, paid online, printed acknowledgemt+ receipt myself, so dis babe presentation tire me jor
Just didn't want to sound paranoid. But he/she responds to questions so fast. Then d refusal to disclose info looked too fishy. Had to go to d profile but saw it's not a new person so I just faced my front.

I swear some people don't know even me sef didn't know, as she told me bills I exchanged emails with them I sat and thought is this the only hospital in the whole of CA abeg let me search Internet, I stumbled upon nairaland infact it was an eye opener for me, that's why it's good to read& research because my hard earned money in this fx wahala I won't follow the crowd at all , I felt $20k for hospital alone was too much and you will still go and search for your own doctor o
Plus accommodation, flight, shopping, feeding. Everything. Say abt 100k for each missionary journey grin

funny enough some Nigerians use the clinic o, because my sisters friend used it then, bill was like $20k for hospital alone. So overwhelming, as I was reading I saw the Kardashians use there too, even this doctor Sid's wife too used there, na who get money go use there
And some pple don't even know cheaper hospitals exist. smiley

Pls everyone go watch a video someone posted here from YouTube! The Business of Being Born.
I watched it in 2 days cos of poor network & was glad I did.
I'm very sorry for your unpleasant experience. Its not just an extra charge dey made u incur; dat CS was as a result of overzealous intervention. If dey monitored u well, ur baby would have com out by itself. Even if dat didnt Happen, u as a patient would have seen dat dey've even done all dey can before recommending CS. I don't understand why dey suggested CS few mins after induction? Why did dey start d induction in d first place? Didnt d pitocin even worsen baby's condition? U need to report dis o. Deed is already done but it's either u pay for one &forfeit d other. Shout &make noise &tel dem to review ur hosp notes &explain why dey opted for CS just few mins after commencing induction wit pitocin?
Even skilled midwives & their clever manouvre can deliver wit 6cm and 90% effacement. Mscheeww!
I'm just very sad
Exactly! I guess most pple didn't watch d video.

I had my 1st baby in d uk and d 2nd in d US. Trust me, the care given in d US is very very money centred. So very compromised. Forget all d 'they were sweet n efficient' pple come to type here. Most are comparing to naija.
I liked my doc. Attentive and all. Had and overall gud experience. Esp wen u ve a praying doc (I'm muslim and she's xtian) but I still liked d fact dat she knew God.
But still, u can't compare medical care in both countries.
I got a call a day after my antenatal dat doc has decided to induce me (thou twas at no xtra cost) I still called to speak to her to ask y d induction. And she clearly had no reason. Just said baby was ready to come out. I was 39wks and had bn 2cm dieted for abt a wk. But gud exercise cld ve made labour progress. But of course I was already tired n wanted to come back home so I agreed to d induction. Thou my 1st baby came at 36 +5 days. But even I knew I did lots of walking wiv d 1st pregnancy. I was alone n had to do all my baby shopping myself.
But wiv d second, mum was wiv me n I practically didn't even lift a finger to do anything.
US docs r quick to induce n give epidural. I didn't take epidural for dis birth cos it was used to do my 2nd degree stitches wiv my 1st in d uk n I absolutely hated hw it made me feel wen it was wearing off.
But dy tried so hard to force it on me.
But in all let's just all always pray hard b4 embarking on dis journey.

If I'm not wrong there is no 'one day package' so I doubt the fee will be cheaper or anyone can get a refund
even if you get to the hospital and put to bed in an hour and leave immediately that will fall under the two day package

Same thing If a c section mom spends only two days don't think she will get a refund
grin thot so too. Just me hoping and living in a fools paradise cos of dis dollar craze

Mamas that travelled alone with toddlers, please ow did you cope and wat did u do to keep them occupied? Mummy will be joinin us some wks after.

Thanks in advance
I travelled wiv my toddler. He wasn't up to 2 wen we were leaving so he didn't have a seat. My mum and dh travelled wiv us but didn't make much diff as he was very clingy. Lag-dubai was uneventful. He had fun watching cartoons, then slept d rest of d journey.
Dubai-houston wasn't as easy as he easily got bored plus there were oda kids on d aircraft and all dy wanted to do was run around. Till he slept around d last 5-6hrs.
Wasn't difficult keeping him occupied in houston. TV, ipad, strolling and shopping.
And he was such a gud boy while mummy was labouring. (Maybe fear from seeing me in so much pain) but I'm not d dramatic type. There was no screaming or cursing while in labour and I didn't use epidural.
Thou there were days he wanted no one but me n I'd ve to put him on my back wiv my bump till he sleeps (super woman wink ). Didn't go down well wiv mum but had to b done for peace sake.
I think d best is to give dem space to run around n play. Dat way u'd b less stressed. The neighbourhood we stayed in was very child friendly thou so twasnt difficult allowing him play outdoors while we watch.
Hope dis helps. smiley

1. did you pay for hearing test in the hospital or its free? Hearing test is compulsory and it is not free

2. Also How many routine visit do we have to make to the Pediatrician after discharge and any idea of the cost and clinic? I did 2. first visit was $108, 2nd visit was $80 or so

3. Yes, take your naija results along. They will accept some like genotype, blood group and repeat every other one he's not ok with. additional tests whe will do for you are Gestational diabetes test, Strep B test
Hearing test is optional. At least I know for oakbend. They give u a paper to sign saying it's REQUIRED by d state of texas. But u can decline. It's not compulsory

Perhaps it's luck or perhaps is a little bit of asking questions after you get your final bill and holding them to the fine prints on the "package contract" @favougal says it correctly cos they (oakbend) won't charge you if you labour overnight or undergo induction-your physician might charge you for the latter and yes your 48hrs starts counting after you born and 72hrs if it's CS .
Yea. Should have asked. Wonder if it's too late grin

Firstymum,

I am fine, thank you. Counting down to starting mat leave, I am just so tired these days.

@Ijeomaobi
Congratulations dear

@ House,

Most hospitals will charge for extra day. Maybe Oakbend does not. Even our extra cheap MIHS did.
Well, I used oakbend and Dr E and was charged. I was admitted for induction by 9pm on 16th Feb. Had my baby by 8:30am on 17th. Got discharged on d 18th. Should have bn a day if d 16th wasn't counted. But twas counted for both baby and I. So maybe it's just luck?

Hello house,  sorry if I've quoted anyone. Just cldnt figure out how to make a new post.
So I found out abt NL just b4 I left for houston.
The original plan was for a family vacation. Booked apt and paid without stress. A few days to our apt, my husband's passport hadn't bn returned by the French embassy. So I had to re-schedule our apt to abt a month after. Good thing this happened cos I found out I was pregnant just b4 our interview if not it would ve been/looked like a case of misrepresentation  (after reading thru dis thread).
I'm a very frequent traveler and our interview was uneventful. I was abt 5wks pregnant. Was asked purpose of travel, told d VO twas for vacation.  Asked if we wld b seeking medicals. My husband said me and our son might but he won't. He didn't wait for her to ask further b4 he told her I was pregnant and we might decide to have d baby there. She asked how far gone and I told her. Then she asked if I knew hw much birthing in the US cost. Told her I had done little research and it should be abt 1.2m.
She said ok. And approved our visas. And gave the normal advice dat if we decide to have the baby there we should pay up our bills and keep all our receipts.
So we decided to have the baby there after getting a clear pic of the cost and all.
P OE was a breeze. CBP didn't knw I was even pregnant. Asked hw long our stay was for. Husband said he was staying for 2wks but we (mum, son and I) would be staying for 3 months. She asked y n he told her cos we wld b having our baby there. Then she stood up to see my bump. Asked y and husband said twas his personal decision. She said ok. Just said she cld see d 1st baby was born in d uk. Dat was all. Stamped us in for 6months  (B2). I didn't come wiv any fud so there was no agriculture or secondary inspection. Spent less Dan 5 mins wiv her.
Have a friend in houston, who helped with some of the findings. I used oakbend and Dr Ezekiel. Lovely doc. Had an awesome experience  wiv her. Didn't stay wiv my friend. Rented 2 rooms in a 3 bed house. Had d whole house to ourselves as dy had no oda tenants throughout our stay. Paid 850 per rm per month. (So I'm suprised everyone is paying ova a thousand) stayed in richmond.  Abt 15mins drive from d hospital.
Met a no of pple dat asked if I was on NL. I wasn't but dat made me to start reading.
I started wiv d part whr some guy came to ask advice abt his girlfriend birthing in d US and had a wife at home. This woke d amebo in me and I started reading. Read from part 1-3 (there was no part 4 den). But I got hooked. And realised my visa interview was smth to celebrate (note, this wasn't our 1st visit ti d US  went for our honeymoon 8yrs ago) but didn't qualify for Dropbox as twas more Dan 2yrs since last visit. Thou the visa was issued in uk (used to live there).
Got to houston last wk in dec, had my baby in feb. And came back 1st wk in april. Got visa for baby. Paperwork for baby took abt 2wks. Adding baby ticket was easy (said dat in my 1st post)
Sorry for d very long post. Tried to make it as short as I cld.
I was one of d ghost readers dat was munching and saving nos *covers face* and everytime anyone mentions ghost reader I feel bad. But tnk God I've bn able to share my experience too.
Still have at least one more missionary journey to make so I shall remain here so nxt one can be shorter and less expensive.

I know my redeemer lives.
Please say a prayer for me today. Beg God to show me mercy. Going for yet anther hysterescopy again today for suspected asherman's.
I'm weak in the spirit but the Lord remains my strenght. I shall not be depressed. I shall testify.
I take solace in the words of Apostle paul in 2 Cor 12: 7-9
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Hello ladyG, I finally joined NL because of u. Yes You. Your selflessness in answering people on the give birth in d USA thread.
I had no idea you were ttc. I was there, 6 years of ttc. With the most unsupportive mother-in-law. I had one of those terrible Africa magic experiences (story for anoda day) But today, I've got a 2yr old son and a 5months old son. Yes, God wiped my tears and elevated my rank. He dat did it for me, with all I went through will put a big smile on your face. He will surely answer your prayers, even better dan u asked of Him. This procedure will go much better dan u imagined and I will celebrate you sooner rather dan later.
I dnt knw you, but I can tell ure a beautiful soul. Worry not my sister cos ur miracle is here and now.
I truly love and admire u and I know God will grant ur desires now. Dis is my prayer for you, from a heart dat has felt the pain of ttc. I will say a prayer for u tonite and will continue to pray for u till I can dance for u. May God bless you beyond ur imaginations.
And to everyone here on dis journey, I wish u all d joy of successful motherhood.
May God answer all our prayers. Amen

I think mama's that went with their toddler's and came back with babies, how did they do it? I didn't know it's an infant to an adult. This wakanow people their fear dey always catch me sha ever since they gave me 150k plus for date change, I tried doing with airline airline said go to agent since then I closed my mind on them
Hello everyone,
not quite new to reading but finally came round to registering today.
Will give details of my everything with time. But let me shed light on this ticket issues.
I traveled with my toddler and mum on emirates to have my baby and came back with him, the baby and my mum. My ticket was bought thru wakanow.
The only way to change/add/amend any tickets bought through an agent is you have to have used a part of the ticket first.
For instance, I wasn't able to do anything to the ticket bought thru wakanow until I traveled a leg of the journey. Wen I was going I bought an infant ticket for my toddler because he wasn't 2 yet but knew I would need to get him a seat on the return leg.
Called emirates to ask for cost of changing my son's infant ticket to child's ticket and was told dy cldnt do anything till I've traveled at least a leg of d journey. If not I'll have to go thru the agent.
So I just left it and traveled. Called emirates just b4 our rtn date to add baby's ticket and upgrade my son's infant ticket to a child ticket and it was straightfwd. Was done on the phone. Infant was 10% of my ticket (emirates has always bn 10%) even wen I had my first son in the UK and I wanted to add. I paid 10% and it was done over the phone. I even called d naija office for the UK one and it was still 10%.
I hope Ive bn able to clear dis infant ticket/agent issue.
