oglalasioux: you are wrong saying Ezza, Izzi and Ikwo are same dialects. very wrong. The guy I quoted is far wrong by lumping very vast dialects conviniently into one group....the ones I lumped are far more closely related than his |

mabea: They speak Igbo as second language.
Honestly nairaland has opened my eyes to some things. I know some guys from Ntezi whom I was amazed that no one could understand any bit of what they speak though they bear igbo names like Ekene,Chika etc. Is just the same thing as u have igala making 3% of anambra.. Some igalas in anambra bear Igbo names too...the only south eastern state with only igbos is IMo state to an extent...Abia has Annang, Enugu has Idoma and igala,Ebonyi have Idoma, Anambra have igala |
Culture › Re: Igbo Speaking Communities In Kogi State by murphyibiam15(m): 4:46pm On Nov 04, 2016 |
oglalasioux: In Ishielu LGA alone, you have Ezillo speaking a totally different dialect, Iyonu speaking another dialect. Nkalagu and Umuhali speak another version of the Nkanu dialect while Nkalaha and Obegu speak the Nsukka dialect. That's 4.
Then you have Izzi, Ezza, Ikwo and Ngbo/Izhia making 8 dialects. When you add Afikpo, Ivo and Ohaozara you have total of 11 dialects.
Note that I didn't add the non Igbo speaking parts of the State such as Effium, Ofurekpe, Ntezi, Okpoto and Amuda.
Enugu State has 5 dialects namely Nkanu, Awgu, Udi and Nsukka. Anambra has 3 dialects, Umunze, Onitsha and Aguleri (except the northern Igala speaking communities). Abia has 3, Isukwato, Ngwa and Arochukwu. Imo has 3, Mbaise, Owerri and Okigwe.
So no Igbo state has more dialects than Ebonyi state.
On your stance that Ngbo people are not related to the Idomas you may be right. I base my argument on the sound of their words and similarities in their names such as Agbo and Agala among others. See how conviently u separated same Ebonyi dialects while ignoring others...what of umuahia in Abia, ukwa, ohafia, ummunneochi, abiriba Then Enugu..Nike; oji river, awgu; ngwo, udi Stop writing what u don't know Ezza-izzi-ikwo are same Afikpo-Edda are same I mean in Ebonyi So next time analkyse with open mind |

Clinton9000: Yes I agree with you...Anambra Igbo is central. Abia, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi, Delta and Rivers have many dialects. What's funny is all these many Igbo dialects speakers even those in Delta like Agbor, and Rivers Ikwerre understand Anambra central Igbo well well. That's why most Rivers marry from Anambra...Peter Odili, Ameachi, Hon. Nwuche, Amadi, I mean all of them that I know marry mostly from Anambra. I lived in PH for 5 yrs, 1 out of every 3 married Ikwerres I knew, married from Anambra or Enugu. We all know Anambra and Enugu are one people except the Nnsuka that have Igala mix up and dialect. Please stop misquoting me and stop ches beating....I never said anambra Igbo is central in essence...I meant they had their own dialect but lost it to central igbo and many still dont care about their dialect in Anambra so far they can speak central igbo.....places like Aguleri, Orumba and awka still maintain their strong dialects and even ihiala. As per marraige anybody can marry from anywhere he or she so wishes ...there is nothing specaial about it. Finally Enugu state is Enugu state with Nsukka inclusive....stop attaching to Enugu BC of Enugu city while dissociating Nsukka.....take care |

Lovelynature: Are you from Ohaozara? Southern part of Ebonyi speak and understand themselves, though with little differences. Same with the northern part; they understand themselves.
The northern and southern parts of the state don't even understand themselves.
I have been to both Ebonyi North and South. That state is really a great one but bad government and lack of sound education keeps her behind.
Can you imagine that Edda is the first place where oil was first discovered in Nigeria Am from Edda....as per bad governance Ebonyi is really catching up now..check all the indices from national debates,Igr,federal and state roads...Ebonyi is a new state and is rapidly developing |

Igboid: You are wrong. Ngbo people has no history of migrating from Idoma or being Idomas.
As for Nsukka area, their lands were invaded by Igalas, who affected their dialects a bit, but the Igalas amongst them had been assimilated into the dominant Igbo culture of the area.
And Ebonyi doesn't have more dialects than other Igbo states. Ebonyi rather seem to have lesser dialects, as groups there seem to be larger in size and landmass. You are 100% correct....Ebonyi has by far the least dialect in Igbo states ....am from Ebonyi...u can see two LGAs in Ebonyi speaking same dialect eg is Ohaozara and Onicha LGA Nxt is Afikpo-Edda-Amasiri-Uwanna-Apkoha-Enohia who speak an hear same "jokwa' dialects Down to Ezza-izzi-ikwo who hear and speak same dialect unlike in Enugu where same LGA like 'Udi' speak diferent dialect e.g Ngwo,UDI town, abor, egede, okpatu, eke all have different dialects As for Anambra they have lost their dialects to central Igbo probably bc they have more trade involvement which involves using central igbo |
